Let me start by saying I didn't take pictures. For anyone who reads my reviews, that's a big part…read moreof them: ALL THE PICTURES. Presentation, portions, half eaten, etc... but I didn't. Because the food was so damn good. Look - I'm going to start off by saying I grew up practically on The Hill. Out here, you'll have to Google it (make sure to add 'RI' to the search or you'll get some political BS), but back east, "alls you's have ta say" was those two words and anyone would know you knew your Italian, food and otherwise. There isn't anything on this coast that vaguely compares to The Hill's food, but walking into and biting out of Geraldi's was having a little piece of home. There's this little shop in the old town where the owner knew your voice when you called to order... you'd walk in, and you heard "hey cousin!" whether you were or not, and that's the vibe you get from Geraldi's. The food is much the same - you get something that looks like Nonna was at the range all day with her sauce (it's not gravy - no meat) and you came home looking like you haven't eaten in weeks: "I'm gonna fatten you up before you leave" and you walked out the door with a sub (sandwich, that is - not a submarine) that weighed the same as a newborn. We got three of those babies: a Chicago Beef (seal of approval from the orderer - only 'complaint' was that they had to eat it all in one day because the bread was quote too soggy to make it to lunch the next day - travesty), an Italian sausage (just as delicious when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and a Chicken Parmeroni (I thought somehow even better when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and I could have absolutely gone back the next day if it weren't for A. the leftovers 2/3 of us had and B. the meal planning we'd done for the week. I also grabbed a side of giardiniera because I will get it anytime I see it available and I inhaled it - I need to know if I can by it by the vat instead of the side cups because it too was similar to what I can find at home (about practically nowhere out here) and amazing!! I'm still upset I didn't take pictures though!

I have been jonesing for a really good Detroit pie, so we got a Meat Lovers pie for dinner tonight. it was great! Something to note: I have…read moreceliac disease and while I appreciate that you can watch them prepare the pizza, it's however not done safely for proper gluten free standards. Yes, they offer gluten free crust that they don't make in-house and they have a dedicated, separate oven for gluten free and place it on a pan, the pan is grabbed with bare, unwashed hands. Gloves were used, but not correctly or appropriately. Surfaces were wiped down, but using the universal cleaning towel. And that same towel was used to wipe the new, fresh pizza cutter. I appreciate the attempt, but it was done incorrectly. I refused to eat the pizza because I didn't believe it would be safe. I don't recommend anyone with celiac eating here as it wouldn't be safe. Also, I didn't appreciate the joke, "Hope I don't kill you." I know it was meant in jest, but where and how I eat is a constant stress in my life that I can never turn off, and I don't want a place to "hope" they did it right. I want them to KNOW and be PROUD they did it right.

Salami Mammi is a delicious and welcome addition to the area. We've had a chance to try basically…read morethe full menu at this point and there's not a low spot in sight (which is the reason for the 5 star review). I'll keep this one somewhat short and just say, go give Salami Mammi a try ASAP. Order whatever sounds best at the moment and you'll almost certainly be glad you did (but DEFINITELY consider getting an order of fries). It's a very small space so seating can be a challenge, but the staff are incredibly patient, friendly, helpful, and welcoming, so it feels approachable even when there's a crowd (which is pretty much always). Go a bit early if you can because selling out of things is not uncommon. Personally I would HIGHLY recommend the Fra Diavolo style for most (all) of the sandwiches. The peppers are SO good... There are plenty of pics around and the menu is as diminutive at the space so I won't gild the lily, and will simply say again it's awesome and worth giving a try!

Don Salamone promised us a sandwich shop years ago, before the pandemic turned everything upside…read moredown, took his original site (which is now on its second restaurant) off the table, and made a reservation-only high-end supper club a better option. In 2026, he's finally made good on the original premise. In the former home of the fiscally swanky but appropriately homey Don's Favorite Foods (where I paid more for braciole than I ever have in my life), the man has built us the house of parms he'd envisioned when Burger Stevens did its Stevens Italiano pop-ups many, many years ago. With touches of Rochester, N.Y., sprinkled throughout the menu, Don has packed in the three holy parms (chicken sausage, sausage, eggplant) and threw in a low-country curve (shrimp) for good measure. In a move that made my eyes well up a bit, he has a chicken cutlet with lettuce, caesar dressing and grana padano (less fussy parmesan). The cold cut sandwich isn't some rote italian combo of ham, provolone and a cured meat to be named later, but a pile of Mortadella, capicola, genoa salami, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, lettuce and tomato... all doused in oil and vinegar. Note the lack of mayonnaise. I've been so beaten down by the sandwich options west of the tunnels that I'm genuinely surprised when I see the little details executed well. I was wondering what they were going to do for bread with Dos Hermanos already offering their own sandwiches down the street, and Good Dough on 6th's sourdough baguettes are ranked right up there with Fleur de Lis and Little T for great Italian sandwich bread that's going to hold up to the marinara and oil and vinegar being thrown at it. As for the sides, the fries Italiano are kind to offer calabrian-chili ranch, but should take no dip. The garlic bread is perhaps the only loaf in this state that doesn't overbutter the entire affair and drown the whole thing in garlic cloves. If you're used to your local Freddy's bakery unloading its garlic and butter overstock onto your "garlic bread," this is going to disappoint. Dip a stick of Darigold into a jar of Chef Cuisine minced garlic, twist, and eat if that's what you're going for. I've already seen people scoff at the $4 side of "red sauce," and I'm here to tell you that's not overpricing: That's a penalty. If you're adding sauce to an already sauced item, you're just paying a premium for drowning out the intended balance with what, to you, is the appropriate amount of sauce. It's your right to ask, but it's also completely appropriate for this place to ding you for it. Meanwhile, I love that other choices are rewarded. $4 for peppers and onions on that sausage parm? Sure. Same price for throwing broccoli rabe onto that cutlet? Absolutely. We're finally getting a few places in town (Loyal Legion, June, the Broadway on a good day) that don't have to look up seemingly simple drinks like a Negroni or an Aperol Spritz, but it's nice to have a place in town that treats them like an adult cafe lunch option and not some feature of a premium cocktail list. I finally have my West Side Italian sandwich shop with no mayonnaise, minimal ranch dressing, and owners who genuinely love what they do. I'd say I wish Salami Mammi the best, but I'm going to invest heavily in that outcome. P.S. The "Sad Valley" reply to a guy who drove from Happy Valley is 1. Legitimately funny and 2. Authentically Northeast.

I really wanted to like this place, but overall it was a disappointing experience…read more We tried the chicken, lamb, and sausage souvlaki. The sausage was easily the best of the three, followed by the lamb. The chicken came in last, which is unusual for me since chicken is usually my favorite option. It had a bitter flavor that I couldn't quite place, maybe from heavily charred oregano, but whatever it was, it didn't work for me. To make matters worse, the portion was tiny, about four bites for $8. The hummus was also a miss. Having traveled to Greece and Turkey many times, I admit my standards are probably a bit higher than average, but I felt the tahini-to-chickpea balance was off and the flavor just wasn't there. And charging $3 for a small pita seems excessive. Hummus should come with pita, period. One unexpected downside was the dining room itself. We ate inside and left smelling like a campfire afterward, which wasn't exactly pleasant. Another frustration was the ordering experience. This is a order at the counter-typr restaurant, yet the tip screen starts at 18%. Asking for a substantial tip before any service has been provided feels a bit much. On the positive side, the Greek fries were excellent and were easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, between the food, pricing, and overall experience, I don't see us coming back. We'll probably stick with Blue Olive or Oasis in the future.

That brings me to Pizzicato - and man, was I lucky! Late afternoon on a Sunday, after a day of traveling, and stuck at a hotel without a functioning restaurant . . . delivery pizza was just what the doctor ordered. And what a treat! I ordered a small pep, breadsticks (wondering why were they SOOOO freaking expensive, more on that below) and a small salad, and I have to say both the portions and quality below me out of the water. As a foodie and pizza guy (born in the Midwest, with deep Chicago and Detroit roots) this place HIT THE SPOT! Seattle pizza scene could learn a few things from these guys. The pep had a delightfully crisp yet tenacious and chewy crust, with a solid feel. No flop, and just enough heft to hold the great, bright and sassy tomato sauce and perfectly spicy large pepperonis. Just enough cheese and parmesan too, making this a nice Neapolitan pie, but with a nice Sicilian flare. It was a huge surprise to find a nice complex pie on an Uber eats SWAG order (scientific wild A$$ guess) The salad, I chose the apple, arugula, walnut, pear, and gorgonzola cheese small size, was easily dinner plate size when out of the box. All the ingredients super fresh, and easily worth twice what I paid. But then again, being from Seattle, I am used to our obscene prices up here, so maybe this is what the rest of the world normally gets for $10.00! But the star (unexpectedly) were the breadsticks. When I ordered them, I couldn't figure out why I had to pay $8.00 for three small breadsticks, but really wanted some, and so jammed the "add" button in my cart. But when I opened the box in my room, all my questions were answered. The breadsticks (let's call them what they are - giant delicious mozzarella stuffed loaves of flaky garlicky buttery crust love) were so unexpectedly good, I didn't know what to so with myself. Each breadstick was hefty, with a delicious flaky buttery crust wrapped around a not too salty, not too stringy, just right center of dense, warm and delicious mozzarella. The existed somewhere between portable stuffed crust and a fast track admission to a cardiac unit. 3 of these bad boys for $8? Really? Can I order these by the gross next time? In the end, I have never been more happy to stumble across a new pizza place in my life and can't wait to visit for real next time, and see what else they can pull off!
