Had a great dinner at Pasta Veneta. Restaurant is a little off the beaten path, it certainly wasn't crowded when I was there (I hope Chicago isn't sleeping on this place!) Service, food, everything was excellent! I had the Caesar salad, foccacia of the day, roasted beets with goat cheese, gnocchi with braised beef short ribs, and a single scoop (I was stuffed) of fig and goat cheese gelato. Highlights: the roasted beets w/goat cheese have a basil-infused olive oil base that really makes the whole dish shine. Awesome. The gnocchi was soft, puffy, like clouds....and oh so tasty. And the gelato was just unusual enough (I used weird when talking to the waiter) to be really really good. All in all a great dining experience. read more

TLDR: Bad service. Frozen food. Overpriced/ poor value. Only serves bottled water, which is garbage. We returned to celebrate the anniversary of our 1st date, which, sadly, took place here. We won't be back for year 2, not just because we'd never come back, but because there's no way this place is still open in a year. It took about 15 minutes to get water, bottled, of course, because they have to run up the bill and be a wasteful as possible. The kid who served us (who I think served us the 1st time and who I'm assuming is the owner's son) apologized for the wait saying the rest of the servers quit that day. I would love to hear the hot goss on that, so slide into my DMs with that noise! Our over-priced one slice of bruschetta ($13) was good, and arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered. Our main courses arrived 10 or 15 later, and could not have been more disappointing. My spinach tortellini were frozen in the middle. Not just cold, but FROZEN. Of course, I knew better than to wait for our server (who came by 30+ minutes later, after we ate and the plates were cleared, to see if we had gotten our entrees) so I ate most of it. It was just veggies so I was pretty confident I would not get sick from the undercooking. My boyfriend ordered the special, which was $45 but described as including a wheel of pecorino and truffles. It was just pasta in a cream sauce with a few very small pieces of truffle on top. Any cheese was in the sauce. We didn't really expect a wheel, but thought there might be a lot of shaved cheese or something cute like a mini wheel. Instead it was just a typical pasta you can get anywhere. BEWARE!! Went here for dinner and ended up having an okay experience. The pasta itself was good, service was a little slow despite the fact that we were one of three tables in the whole restaurant. Left the restaurant feeling okay, not somewhere that I was likely to return to, but glad I tried it. At the end of the meal, we left a good tip and saved the receipt. When looking at my credit card statement for this meal, I saw that my total was much more than what I had written down after the tip. I always leave a tip that leaves the total to a whole number as well, so that was also a big tell that something was altered. Paid with a debit card too to avoid credit card fees. I don't know if there are some behind the scenes fees that make you bill 10% higher than what you leave thinking it'll be, but it overall feels really shady and I don't recommend anyone come here! ** note that if you do come here, you have to pay $4 for water! Reallllyyy wanted to give this place a higher ranking because the food was so fresh and delicious (I loved every bite of the corn truffle ravioli) but the portion was quite small so I left still very hungry; I think if I had added a protein I would have had a better outlook on this place. There were several extra fees - our group paid $12 for 3 carafes of water which we did not know about, so felt a bit caught off guard. The service was good though and the space was quiet. Extremely underrated Italian spot in the West Loop! Prices are much more fair than other restaurants in the area and the food is equally (if not more) delicious! All of the pasta is made in house. There is a wide variety of dishes and definitely something for everyone. I enjoyed the truffle pasta with caviar-- so decadent and a generous portion! The service here was a bit slow at first but once it got going everything was great. I enjoyed the upscale yet laid back environment. It's rooftop and patio season in Chicago and this spot has thee perfect patio for you to enjoy while having some of their delicious Italian Food! You can watch them making the different pastas right inside of the restaurant, which is super cool! They also have a full bar in the restaurant where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail with your delicious meal! My rigatoni was so good. The pesto sauce on there was perfect and the homemade taste of the pasta makes such a big impact on the meal! I also got some homemade fig ice cream and wow! This is my new favorite pasta in Chicago! I've been wanting to try it for so long because it looks so pretty with all of the flowers outside and the unique design inside. But the food blew me away. This was a great place with wonderful ambiance! We got focaccia to start, it was dry and came out at room temperature. It was only $3.50, so not a bad price and good to use for dipping in pasta sauce. Served with olive tapenade. The bruschetta was topped to the brim! Lol. The mozzarella, tomatoes, zucchini, onions were tossed in dressing and topped on a yummy crunchy bread. I loved this fresh take on bruschetta. The pear salad was a good fresh component. I love arugula and pear, Gorgonzola added a nice nuttiness to the dish. Be sure you like all these items before ordering! Corn ravioli with truffle was soooooo good. Really enjoyed the subtle truffle notes and fresh corn inside the ravioli. The sauce was not too heavy and went perfect with the corn. The pesto is not pictured but also very yummy. Pesto sauce was soooooo creamy and luscious. They have chili flakes if you ask for it, but the chili flakes are not at all spicy. Great time at this restaurant! No matter what you do... GET THE GNOCCHI. It was literally the most fluffy Gnocchi I've ever had and I still dream about it. The service was amazing as well and really loved how I didn't have to ask for anything. She was very on top on it all. The ambiance was cute but nothing over the top. This isn't a fancy place though I would have expected more for a west loop location. Lastly, I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because of the presentation of the dishes. They need improvement. We just checked out Pasta Veneta, located in Chicago's Fulton Market. They're the newest sister restaurant to Osteria Del Pastaio, and they're serving authentic Italian cuisine, including homemade pasta, freshly baked bread and artisanal dessert. The interior space is charming, with big windows that let the sunlight pour in, and they have a spacious outdoor patio, lined with pretty, colorful flowers. It's super cute and the perfect destination for a date night with that special someone. During our visit, we ordered several menu items, with our favorites being the Bread Service and Tapenade of the Day, the Avocado & Asparagus Salad in Truffle Vinaigrette, the Frutti Di Mare and the Profiteroles. We really enjoyed the soft, delicious Bread, which we proceeded to dunk in pretty much everything! The Salad was super fresh and we can never get enough truffle. The Frutti Di Mare came loaded with succulent pan-seared shrimp, scallop and lobster atop black and white spaghetti tossed in a slightly spicy red sauce. So yummy! Finally, the Profiteroles were presented beautifully and were delightful. We also got a couple Dirty Martinis during our visit and each enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir. Both paired perfectly with our Italian feast. This was truly a special little evening. Service was great, they change your cutlery between meals, staff were very kind and helpful with recommendations. Well decorated inside, makes you feel like you're eating outdoors with a bistro vibe. Favorite dish of the night has to have been the shrimp ceviche and avocado gem salad. Refreshing! Calamari was nicely spiced, different from the usual. If you want bread service it's $3.50 but it was very good with a yummy olive tapenade. Bottled water or sparkling only, additional $4 per large bottle. But they don't say this up front it's just written on the menu. Other dishes ordered were Frutti de Mare, Risotto Lobster, tuna Carpaccio. I came in on a Tuesday evening and there was a great ambience (groups, couples, coworkers, etc) and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. From conversations, I gathered this is a neighborhood hang that people who live and work in the area frequent often. What we ordered: - 2 glasses of red wine (great wine selection) - Foccacia w/ olive tapenade*: incredible bread (made daily) and I could devour a giant jar of this tapenade! - Tuna Carpaccio*: stunning presentation and incredible flavor. everything was so fresh and bright! - Gnocchi w/ Wild Mushrooms, Parm & Butter Sage Sauce*: Wow, this gnocchi melts in your mouth. The most perfect dough pillows! This sauce was definitely the lightest of the 3 but had a complex flavor profile with the mushrooms, cream, cheese and sage. - Spaghetti w/ Merguez Sausage and Nduja Tomato Sauce: Loved the homemade spaghetti and the spicy nduja sauce!! The sausage was a little different, good, but different. - Ravioli Stuffed w/ Fresh Main Lobster in a Saffron Sauce: Unfortunately our least favorite dish and definitely made for people who love RICH pastas. Absolutely incredible experience at Pasta Veneta! From start to finish, everything was exceptional -- easily one of the best Italian meals I've had in a long time. We started with the beef carpaccio and the goat cheese + date bites wrapped in bacon (unreal combo). For mains, the lobster risotto special was next-level and the spaghetti bolognese was a perfect classic done right. Drinks were on point too -- the Hugo and Aperol Spritz made us feel like we were dining in Italy. Ended on a high note with the chocolate cremosa cake -- rich, smooth, and the perfect sweet finish. We have been to Pasta Veneta many times and it has been one of our favorite pasta places in Chicago. But tonight they honestly ripped us off. We ordered a 20 and 30 year port. I don't mind paying the price if it's a good port but they gave us garbage for $26 and $33 respectively. No chance whatsoever that those were quality port wines. I'm very disappointed because we thought we found a regular place for us to go but this dishonesty turns me off from going back there! read more

A friend and I had dinner at Pasta Veneta last night after questionable weather cancelled our rooftop plans at another bar in the neighborhood. I had no issues getting a reservation and when we arrived there were maybe 3 other tables seated plus a couple of people at the bar, so very empty. There was music in the background but overall a quiet scene. I found it interesting that the restaurant doesn't have a "full bar" per our waitress but could make some cocktails (aperol spritz, martinis). We went with a glass of wine and an aperol spritz. We each ordered a pasta: cacio e pepe and tortelloni stuffed with spinach and butter sage sauce. Both pastas were excellent and rich in flavor, neither of us were able to finish our plates. Overall prices are decent and we had good service, though I dislike the 3% CC fee as others have noted. I would come back but if you're looking for more of an upbeat environment, you won't find it here, at least not during the week. read more

I went here for a friend's birthday and I really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, I just was not impressed. We ordered a wide variety of appetizers and the only thing that was memorable was the calamari. It was excellent-light, fluffy and incredibly airy. It comes with a spicy red sauce that is amazing. Unfortunately, I thought the pasta was very flat in taste and texture. I ordered the duck confit that our server raved about and I was super disappointed. The duck was very dry, the sauce tasted like someone had cooked it with vinegar as it had a strong sour taste and the pasta texture was just off. I didn't try the other pasta dishes because I really wanted to enjoy mine but maybe I should have. Our server was ok, not very attentive to the table as I had to remind her to bring basic things like silverware and napkins. In addition, they charge you for bottle water which is a bit whack. If you go with a group, they do not handle this well so prepare to split the bill by 4 ways. They should let folks know this before you sit down and order. Honestly, you pay for being in West Loop and that's it. You won't leave with a memorable meal. read more

Pasta Veneta opened just 6 months ago and is located in west loop, 5min west off of Fulton. Lot sof restaurants in the main west loop Randolph strip are expensive so it's good they're a bit further away with a huge patio and a bit less rent-pressured prices! I've been to Pasta Veneta twice, most recently with a couple of my girlfriends last week. Despite arriving to a nearly empty restaurant at 6PM with a reservation for 3, the host/bartender/waiter would not seat us until "all parties arrived", which I thought was a bit strange. After 10 minutes of one of my girlfriends and I waiting at the entrance for our third friend, we were finally seated outside. We started our meal with the beet salad and focaccia, both of which were very tasty. For my main course, I ordered the scallop linguini which I enjoyed. One friend ordered the seafood signature pasta, and another ordered another gnocchi special which we were told would have seafood. When the gnocchi came out, it turned out to be the braised short rib gnocchi dish. When she asked the waiter why there was short rib, he simply said that "that was what you ordered" and didn't try to offer her the correct dish. My friend was too nice to argue and ended up just eating the gnocchi anyway but picked out the short rib. Overall, the food was fairly decent [if ordered correctly], but the service was quite below par. There are tons of better Italian spots in West Loop, so I would come here only if you needed to go somewhere without a reservation. read more

Went with two of my girlfriends before a concert at the United Center. Was a perfect location to easily get to the United center and had ample parking. We ordered the Croquettes, beet salad and burrata. Could have done without the burrata - but salad and the croquettes will be in my dreams from now on. Pasta is made onsite (we saw a couple chefs making it). I had the tortellini stuffed with spinach and butter sage and a side of meatballs. My friends had a pasta with mushrooms (i forgot what it was called). The pasta is heavenly. So delicious and decadent. I want to go back next time I am there! read more

Perfect pasta place on Fulton. Food and wine were amazing, tasted and felt very upscale. The slices of prosciutto were nice and lean, the cheeses and apples with honeycomb were delightful, the bread was good but the homemade tapenade made it even better. The lobster risotto had tons of lobster in it and the carbonara was beautiful. Loved that I could get Barolo and a Brunello by the glass or bottle. The panna cotta was also so good, don't think I've ever had it with limes and figs before but it was perfect. The ambiance is nice, on the more casual side so you don't need to worry about dressing to the 9s for a good bowl of pasta. Service was great, very friendly and knowledgeable.
