This restaurant is unassuming but BRILLIANT. We almost left because there was only one other table present when we entered at 7:45pm on a Tuesday. WE ARE ECSTATIC THAT WE STAYED. Stay. Drink. EAT. Calamari was the best I've ever had. Not the usual rubbery garbage you get elsewhere. The tomato sauces were slightly creamy and slightly spicy. We ordered pasta dishes for each person and a margherita pizza for the table. My only regret is that I didn't have a stomach large enough to manage all of the food. read more

We came in for dinner on a Friday night. Our friends love this restaurant and have been countless times prior. They are big fans of homemade pasta. It was our first time there and it was not very busy for a restaurant in Fulton Market. It is definitely a littler further from the action and not as trendy, but the parking was very easy... which may be the best thing about this restaurant. The homemade focaccia was good. I also had a bite of the margherita pizza and thought the sauce was very nice. Our pasta dishes fell a little short. We had the penne arrabbiata pasta, duck confit pasta, and gnocchi with wild mushrooms. The pastas were made and cooked well, especially the pappardelle. The duck was very tender. The duck confit pasta was probably our favorite dish. The arrabbiata sauce did not have a lot of flavor and was not spicy, which was good for our toddler, but a little disappoint for us. The gnocchi mushroom dish was one dimensional and delicate/lacking in flavor. Our friends advised us to pass on the desserts. The were a few families with older kids dining, but they didn't a high chair for our curious toddler. The service was also slow and it took a while for them to take our order. This made our dinner a little more challenging. However, the servers were very friendly and tolerant of her walking around and exploring a little, which is always very much appreciated! read more

I honestly don't understand how this restaurant has such high ratings. We specifically asked about non-alcoholic drinks since none were listed on the menu. After initially pointing me toward the wine, cocktails, and beer, I had to repeat that I meant non-alcoholic options. We ordered a non-alcoholic beer, but the server brought the wrong one and was about to take the bottle away until I stopped him and asked if it was actually non-alcoholic. But the food was by far the biggest problem. We ordered the burrata, focaccia, Margherita pizza, and pappardelle with duck. The burrata was probably the only thing we found remotely decent, and even that came sitting on top of a very watery red sauce that was not appetizing. The focaccia was hard and didn't taste fresh. We also noticed the table next to us barely touched theirs. The Margherita pizza genuinely looked and tasted like something that had been frozen and reheated. Honestly, I think a frozen grocery-store pizza would have been better. The pappardelle was the worst dish of the night. The sauce had an overwhelming acidity, and the duck leg simply didn't taste good. And then there was the arugula. It seemed like arugula was being used as decoration on absolutely everything: the pizza, the pasta, and other dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen. It didn't add anything and just made the dishes look thrown together. The biggest problem is that we couldn't actually eat the food. We took essentially one bite of each dish and left almost everything untouched. The server did kindly bring us containers to take it home, but we had no desire to take home food that we hadn't been able to eat in the first place. Our bill was about $98 before tip, which admittedly isn't expensive for Chicago, especially Fulton Market. But $98 is still a lot of money to spend on a dinner where we essentially ate nothing. The atmosphere wasn't great either. The restaurant was extremely loud despite having only a handful of tables, and the music on top of that made it even harder to have a conversation. It felt like there was an issue with the acoustics that hadn't been addressed. Unfortunately, this experience felt completely out of step with the level of food and service I would expect in this neighborhood. I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I would genuinely warn visitors and tourists not to choose this restaurant simply because it has availability when other Fulton Market restaurants are booked. Our experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Maybe we caught them on an exceptionally bad night, but based on everything we experienced and what we saw coming out of the kitchen, I would not take the chance again. We came hungry, spent $98, and left hungry. That pretty much says it all. read more

Probably one of my favorite meals I've had in Chicago since moving here two years ago. The butter sage tortellini is seriously so good and you have to get it for the table to share. We were in the Fulton Market area so we stopped in for a drink before meeting friends in another part of town. We walked in and sat at the bar. We ordered to aperol spritzes but then bartender gave us lemon spritzes. Not sure if she just wasn't paying attention but it wasn't that busy. The food looked and smelled great. We would consider going back to dine there. read more

Had a great dinner at Pasta Veneta. Restaurant is a little off the beaten path, it certainly wasn't crowded when I was there (I hope Chicago isn't sleeping on this place!) Service, food, everything was excellent! I had the Caesar salad, foccacia of the day, roasted beets with goat cheese, gnocchi with braised beef short ribs, and a single scoop (I was stuffed) of fig and goat cheese gelato. Highlights: the roasted beets w/goat cheese have a basil-infused olive oil base that really makes the whole dish shine. Awesome. The gnocchi was soft, puffy, like clouds....and oh so tasty. And the gelato was just unusual enough (I used weird when talking to the waiter) to be really really good. All in all a great dining experience. read more

I wonder why people give this great restaurant such low grade reviews, its one of the best Italian restaurant I ever tried in Chicago, it remind me a restaurant in Venice Italy, high ceiling, nice atmosphere, great pizza, you can smell the wood burning oven, we asked the waiter, he confirmed, they have a wood burning oven, the safran risoto was as good as in Milan Italy, some patrons have no knowledge about great food, they should stick to their burger with ketchup and stay out out of great restaurants, this restaurant operators put their heart and sole. Keep up the great food and service, don't let this revues from people who have no knowledge about great Italian food bring your moral and spirit down. Great food. Pasta Veneta all the best read more

The food was great, but the portions were small and quite expensive. My boyfriend got the risotto and it was exceptional! My spaghetti bolognese was good, but reminded us of fancy Chef Boyardee. The service was slow and our waitress was a little odd and we felt ignored. When making the reservation we booked a high top table, when we arrived there were no high top tables even in the restaurant. Overall, good food, but there's other places we want to try before we'd consider returning read more

TLDR: Bad service. Frozen food. Overpriced/ poor value. Only serves bottled water, which is garbage. We returned to celebrate the anniversary of our 1st date, which, sadly, took place here. We won't be back for year 2, not just because we'd never come back, but because there's no way this place is still open in a year. It took about 15 minutes to get water, bottled, of course, because they have to run up the bill and be a wasteful as possible. The kid who served us (who I think served us the 1st time and who I'm assuming is the owner's son) apologized for the wait saying the rest of the servers quit that day. I would love to hear the hot goss on that, so slide into my DMs with that noise! Our over-priced one slice of bruschetta ($13) was good, and arrived about 20 minutes after we ordered. Our main courses arrived 10 or 15 later, and could not have been more disappointing. My spinach tortellini were frozen in the middle. Not just cold, but FROZEN. Of course, I knew better than to wait for our server (who came by 30+ minutes later, after we ate and the plates were cleared, to see if we had gotten our entrees) so I ate most of it. It was just veggies so I was pretty confident I would not get sick from the undercooking. My boyfriend ordered the special, which was $45 but described as including a wheel of pecorino and truffles. It was just pasta in a cream sauce with a few very small pieces of truffle on top. Any cheese was in the sauce. We didn't really expect a wheel, but thought there might be a lot of shaved cheese or something cute like a mini wheel. Instead it was just a typical pasta you can get anywhere. We got out of there as soon as possible unwilling to also risk any more of our night on dessert. read more

BEWARE!! Went here for dinner and ended up having an okay experience. The pasta itself was good, service was a little slow despite the fact that we were one of three tables in the whole restaurant. Left the restaurant feeling okay, not somewhere that I was likely to return to, but glad I tried it. At the end of the meal, we left a good tip and saved the receipt. When looking at my credit card statement for this meal, I saw that my total was much more than what I had written down after the tip. I always leave a tip that leaves the total to a whole number as well, so that was also a big tell that something was altered. Paid with a debit card too to avoid credit card fees. I don't know if there are some behind the scenes fees that make you bill 10% higher than what you leave thinking it'll be, but it overall feels really shady and I don't recommend anyone come here! ** note that if you do come here, you have to pay $4 for water! I should have read previous reviews prior to coming. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Extremely deceptive business practices and the worst service I have ever had in my entire life. Like... coming out of 10+ year yelp retirement to write a review level bad. Considering one of the deceptive practices is attempting to scam patrons out of automatic 20% gratuity, I can see why the server didn't even try and ignored our table for a solid 45 minutes. We were one of two tables in the entire restaurant. They could not have been less busy. Menu lists 20% gratuity included for parties of 5 or more (hidden on the back). My table was 4 and we were still charged the automatic 20%. Considering the woman serving us was chatting with the other table incessantly, messing around behind the bar, and hiding in the back for nearly an hour before my friend and I could even order an appetizer, she didn't deserve a tip at all. We ended up arguing the charge off and tipping just under 10% (more than she deserved but societal norms were hard to overcome). After, we found that our cards were charged more than that, meaning the amount was illegally modified by the server. The cherry on top of this scam of a business is they don't ask what kind of water you want but automatically put a $4 bottle on the table. The food was decent but really expensive for what it is, small portions and we found the pasta dishes extremely heavy and it gave us all stomach aches after. Fulton market is full of similarly priced restaurants with 5 star service and food. Save yourself. Save your money. Do NOT come here. read more

The homemade pasta and service were fantastic. Well balanced meals. Good ambiance as well.

Reallllyyy wanted to give this place a higher ranking because the food was so fresh and delicious (I loved every bite of the corn truffle ravioli) but the portion was quite small so I left still very hungry; I think if I had added a protein I would have had a better outlook on this place. There were several extra fees - our group paid $12 for 3 carafes of water which we did not know about, so felt a bit caught off guard. The service was good though and the space was quiet. I'd definitely like to come back and try more because everyone really enjoyed their meal! read more

1 Star, Not Worth the Price Tag Came here with a party of 8 and left thoroughly disappointed for a $322 bill. Where do I even start? First, they charge $8 for still water. Still water. At a sit-down Italian restaurant on Fulton Market, this felt incredibly cheap and tone-deaf. The food portions were noticeably small for the price. We ordered Rigatoni Pesto, Gnocchi Mushroom, Tortelloni Spinach, and Penne Arrabbiata, every single dish was under-seasoned. No salt, no pepper, completely bland. For $19-$23 per pasta dish, that's unacceptable. Then comes the bill: a mandatory 20% gratuity ($49) auto-added for parties of 2 or more. Fine, that's disclosed. But then they also tack on a 3% credit card surcharge on top of everything. Hidden fees stacking on hidden fees. Every restaurant around them on Fulton Market was packed. This one had tables open. Now I know why. Save your $50-60/person and go to Pizzeria Portofino instead -- night and day difference. read more

We went at an awkward time, so it wasn't as busy, but our server was great. What we ordered: Burrata: It was a bit small and tricky to share with a table of four. I would have chosen a different appetizer if I knew it would be a precut burrata. Rigatoni w Pesto & Stracciatella Fresca: Very good! I loved the creamy sauce with the cheese, and the pasta was cooked al dente. Duck Confit w Pappardelle & Duck Ragout: Something different! I enjoyed the combination of the thick-cut noodles and the duck. The presentation was nice too. Fettuccine Alfredo w Parmesan & Chicken: Can't go wrong with fettuccine alfredo. Though next time I might try some of their other more adventurous menu items. read more

Extremely underrated Italian spot in the West Loop! Prices are much more fair than other restaurants in the area and the food is equally (if not more) delicious! All of the pasta is made in house. There is a wide variety of dishes and definitely something for everyone. I enjoyed the truffle pasta with caviar-- so decadent and a generous portion! The service here was a bit slow at first but once it got going everything was great. I enjoyed the upscale yet laid back environment. This restaurant is at the end of Fulton so it's less packed than others and a great place to engage in conversation. I'd recommend bringing family here! read more

The food and service were top notch. The pasta is made in house and the flavors are robust. The pasta with duck is tangy and has a deep depth of flavor in each bite. The spaghetti has bold tomato flavor that is beautifully complimented by the sausage addition. The space is gorgeous as we sat near a floral arrangement that was fragrant and more effective than a B&BW candle! My only surprise was the charge for water. I assumed water was complimentary. It is not. read more

You can watch them making the different pastas right inside of the restaurant, which is super cool! They also have a full bar in the restaurant where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail with your delicious meal! My rigatoni was so good. The pesto sauce on there was perfect and the homemade taste of the pasta makes such a big impact on the meal! I also got some homemade fig ice cream and wow! We decided to check this place out since most of the reviews were stellar. The few bad reviews stated portion sizes were small. I did not find that to be the case at all. We ordered more than we really need to based on those reviews but I'm so glad we did. Everything was amazing. All pastas are made in house. Everything had a fresh quality about it. This was a great place with wonderful ambiance! We got focaccia to start, it was dry and came out at room temperature. It was only $3.50, so not a bad price and good to use for dipping in pasta sauce. Served with olive tapenade. The bruschetta was topped to the brim! Lol. The mozzarella, tomatoes, zucchini, onions were tossed in dressing and topped on a yummy crunchy bread. I loved this fresh take on bruschetta. The pear salad was a good fresh component. I love arugula and pear, Gorgonzola added a nice nuttiness to the dish. Be sure you like all these items before ordering! Corn ravioli with truffle was soooooo good. Really enjoyed the subtle truffle notes and fresh corn inside the ravioli. The sauce was not too heavy and went perfect with the corn. The pesto is not pictured but also very yummy. Pesto sauce was soooooo creamy and luscious. They have chili flakes if you ask for it, but the chili flakes are not at all spicy. Great time at this restaurant! The service was amazing as well and really loved how I didn't have to ask for anything. She was very on top on it all. The ambiance was cute but nothing over the top. This isn't a fancy place though I would have expected more for a west loop location. Lastly, I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because of the presentation of the dishes. They need improvement. We just checked out Pasta Veneta, located in Chicago's Fulton Market. They're the newest sister restaurant to Osteria Del Pastaio, and they're serving authentic Italian cuisine, including homemade pasta, freshly baked bread and artisanal dessert. The interior space is charming, with big windows that let the sunlight pour in, and they have a spacious outdoor patio, lined with pretty, colorful flowers. It's super cute and the perfect destination for a date night with that special someone. During our visit, we ordered several menu items, with our favorites being the Bread Service and Tapenade of the Day, the Avocado & Asparagus Salad in Truffle Vinaigrette, the Frutti Di Mare and the Profiteroles. We really enjoyed the soft, delicious Bread, which we proceeded to dunk in pretty much everything! The Salad was super fresh and we can never get enough truffle. The Frutti Di Mare came loaded with succulent pan-seared shrimp, scallop and lobster atop black and white spaghetti tossed in a slightly spicy red sauce. So yummy! Finally, the Profiteroles were presented beautifully and were delightful. We also got a couple Dirty Martinis during our visit and each enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir. Both paired perfectly with our Italian feast. This was truly a special little evening. I can't wait to spend more time on their sunny patio this summer and explore more of their lovely wine list! read more

Had a great dinner here with friends in town. This is the type of place to go if you're craving seafood and varied Italian dishes. Service was great, they change your cutlery between meals, staff were very kind and helpful with recommendations. Well decorated inside, makes you feel like you're eating outdoors with a bistro vibe. Favorite dish of the night has to have been the shrimp ceviche and avocado gem salad. Refreshing! Calamari was nicely spiced, different from the usual. If you want bread service it's $3.50 but it was very good with a yummy olive tapenade. Bottled water or sparkling only, additional $4 per large bottle. But they don't say this up front it's just written on the menu. Other dishes ordered were Frutti de Mare, Risotto Lobster, tuna Carpaccio. They just opened so they're still working on quality but one piece of feedback would be that the seafood was overcooked/drier than usual. Otherwise, well done! read more

Osteria Del Pastaio's has a new sister restaurant in Fulton Market, Pasta Veneta. They have a weekly special menu that offers mouth-watering Italian dishes in a vibrant Italian dining setting. The Artisan pasta is made daily, bread is baked fresh each morning, and seasonal desserts and candies are hand-made. Food we had... Bread Service and Tapenade of the Day Gnocchi, braised Beef Short Rib in its own Juice Tortelloni stuffed with spinach, Butter-sage Panfried Chickpea Polpette, Zucchini /Squash, Marinara Sauce Burrata, Cucumber Gazpacho Classic Tiramisu, strawberries and raspberries We started with the bread service and it was tasty, but the bread was crunchier than I expected it to be. We got a focaccia and eggplant tapanade. Next we got the starters of burrata and chickpea pancakes. The burrata was refreshing and tasty. Just like you'd expect for burrata but the cucumber gazpacho really amped it up. I just wish I had some toasts or something to eat the burrata with. The chickpea pancakes were described as a vegan foie gras. Soft and smooth and crispy outside. It honestly reminded me of a Japanese fried tofu. Homey and comforting. The tortelloni was delicate and full of flavor! The gnocchi with braised short rib tasted good! It was very decadent. The spinach tortellini was heavenly! The pastas were the best part of the meal, honestly. They were out of panna cotta, but I was able to get the tiramisu and it was a nice way to end the dinner. Definitely come back here for the modern and sleek decor but stay for the awesome pasta! read more

2 WORDS: FRESH PASTA!!!! It makes all the difference and there's nothing better! I highly recommend trying Pasta Veneta - especially if you're sick of trying to snag a reservation at all the overhyped spots in town. I came in on a Tuesday evening and there was a great ambience (groups, couples, coworkers, etc) and the staff was extremely attentive and friendly. From conversations, I gathered this is a neighborhood hang that people who live and work in the area frequent often. What we ordered: - 2 glasses of red wine (great wine selection) - Foccacia w/ olive tapenade*: incredible bread (made daily) and I could devour a giant jar of this tapenade! - Tuna Carpaccio*: stunning presentation and incredible flavor. everything was so fresh and bright! - Gnocchi w/ Wild Mushrooms, Parm & Butter Sage Sauce*: Wow, this gnocchi melts in your mouth. The most perfect dough pillows! This sauce was definitely the lightest of the 3 but had a complex flavor profile with the mushrooms, cream, cheese and sage. - Spaghetti w/ Merguez Sausage and Nduja Tomato Sauce: Loved the homemade spaghetti and the spicy nduja sauce!! The sausage was a little different, good, but different. - Ravioli Stuffed w/ Fresh Main Lobster in a Saffron Sauce: Unfortunately our least favorite dish and definitely made for people who love RICH pastas. The saffron sauce was too overpowering. *Must-Order Dishes All that being said, we're excited to come back and try more of their homemade pasta dishes!! A friend and I had dinner at Pasta Veneta last night after questionable weather cancelled our rooftop plans at another bar in the neighborhood. I had no issues getting a reservation and when we arrived there were maybe 3 other tables seated plus a couple of people at the bar, so very empty. There was music in the background but overall a quiet scene. I found it interesting that the restaurant doesn't have a "full bar" per our waitress but could make some cocktails (aperol spritz, martinis). We went with a glass of wine and an aperol spritz. We each ordered a pasta: cacio e pepe and tortelloni stuffed with spinach and butter sage sauce. Both pastas were excellent and rich in flavor, neither of us were able to finish our plates. Overall prices are decent and we had good service, though I dislike the 3% CC fee as others have noted. I would come back but if you're looking for more of an upbeat environment, you won't find it here, at least not during the week. read more

Absolutely incredible experience at Pasta Veneta! From start to finish, everything was exceptional -- easily one of the best Italian meals I've had in a long time. We started with the beef carpaccio and the goat cheese + date bites wrapped in bacon (unreal combo). For mains, the lobster risotto special was next-level and the spaghetti bolognese was a perfect classic done right. Drinks were on point too -- the Hugo and Aperol Spritz made us feel like we were dining in Italy. Ended on a high note with the chocolate cremosa cake -- rich, smooth, and the perfect sweet finish. Truly a hidden gem -- the quality, flavors, and vibe deserve way more attention. Can't wait to come back! read more
