First and foremost, our server Wes was amazing and deserves so much credit for making our experience light and fun. 10 stars for Wes! Dining at Rose Mary is a treat. It's decorated so beautifully. Love the hanging plants. It's obviously a hot spot, yet isn't at all pretentious. I wish we could have tried every single thing on the menu, it all sounded delectable. Alas, we'd had a huge lunch so we weren't starving when dinner time arrived. My girlfriends and I shared the zucchini fritters, triangoli pasta, tuna crudo and pork ribs. All four dishes were great. But that bite of crudo was *chef's kiss*. So perfectly salty and briny and good. We had a few great cocktails to round things out. I've been hanging around Chicago's food scene since ye olde meat-and-potatoes days (who else remembers Ronny's $1.79 steak dinners?). Hoo-ee, we've come a long way! Today, innovation layered on top of innovation makes 'normal' food seem humdrum, and that's where Rose Mary shines. Getting a prime time reservation here is like trying to nail Jello to the wall. The hack is to do it online at 12:00:01 AM exactly 30 days before the desired date; preferred time slots tend to fill up quickly. The Missus and I went for dinner on a Sunday. The décor is contemporary and exciting; even when the restaurant is crowded (which I'm told is always), you don't feel hemmed in. The fusion menu is unequivocally unique. I suppose you could call it "Crotalian." Cevapi meets cacio e pepe! Our server was professional and efficient. She knew every nuance of the menu and food prep, and was there whenever we needed something. Although the menu is not huge, there are some vegetarian-friendly items and also the kitchen offers a dairy-free menu, perfect for my cheese-averse Missus. Rose Mary encourages diners to order at least two dishes per person and share, share, share. But c'mon, our utensils were never replenished and we also had to reuse the same dinner plates for each course. We feasted on roasted pear salad, sweet potato, branzino, and pork ribs pampanella. Composed of high-quality ingredients and inventive flavor combinations, each dish blew us completely away. I particularly enjoyed the pork ribs - Italianized Texas BBQ plated in a pool of spicy sweet & sour sauce. The meat (tender but thankfully NOT 'fall-off-the-bone') had a nice crunchy char amplified by chopped walnuts. I requested the accompanying "cabbage & yogurt relish" (Greek coleslaw, I suppose) served on the side, not dolloped onto the ribs. For dessert, my Missus had chocolate gelato and I went for the cherry sorbetta. The latter's flavor was so intense and tart, it was like sucking on a raw lemon. Not my favorite. We sat at the chef's table, which made the experience even more special, to watch our food being prepared right in front of us. I went for restaurant week this past Friday and this was a great menu to try different dishes. One thing that I'd like to point out that was a little confusing is that you share the courses. So on the menu you get everything on it but share it with the person you come with - I'm not sure maybe they put smaller portions if you're by yourself? Service was nice and the food came quick. I liked the sweet potatoes they were vinegary which is different. The tuna crudo was my favorite by far. The Cacio Pepe was ok nothing special. I was looking forward to the steak but it was kind of basic nothing too special - I didn't really like the beets. The toffee pudding for dessert was also good. All in all I wish we had our own portions because it ended up not being too filling because we shared them but it was nice to try different things. read more

The Restaurant Week offering is very limited: two choices per course and one dessert option.But the main downside was value and portions. You get one small dessert to share for two which was surprising and my first time seeing this during Restaurant Week. I also noticed our crudo came with four pieces, while others who also did RW got six, which felt inconsistent. I think they determine the portions based on the number of people dining and everything is meant to be shared, which I thought was very confusing given the portions. Overall, their approach to Restaurant Week feels off and not the best value. It would have been helpful for the server to explain this at the beginning. I would recommend trying out the regular menu instead. The meals however were delicious. The tuna crudo was incredibly fresh with great garnishes, and the cacio e pepe was solid. The sweet potatoes were definitely a highlight, unfortunately the steak was just okay, maybe a personal preference but was not wowed. Their take on sticky toffee was also decent. I was in Chicago visiting my brother and sister-in-law--they just moved to the West Loop and were excited this place is only a few blocks from their apartment, so we made a 6:15 reservation. We got there a little early, around 6, and were seated right away. Our server was great--friendly, attentive, and helpful. The food was solid with a few standouts. The tuna crudo is a must--really fresh, buttery, and the crispy fried capers on top made it. The gnocchi was also very good, and the ribs were good but not something I'd order again. The fritters were underwhelming and probably a skip. We paid the bill (reasonable, around $350 for three of us which included 5 dishes and wine for each of us) and were just finishing up our glasses of wine, not lingering. Then a man--assuming the manager--came over and told us they had another reservation for the table. The way he said it felt abrupt and a bit dismissive. No context, just very direct. We had only been there about an hour and fifteen minutes and had already wrapped things up, so it just left a weird impression at the end. My husband and I came here for New Year's Eve dinner 12/31/2025. It was our first time here. We ordered a bottle of red wine (Domaine Bessa Valley petit enira 2019) that was very good. And we shared the NYE menu. This was SO much food! It was all incredible. The servers were on point and the service was excellent. Bread: this was very good and a nice touch since it wasn't on the menu. The flaky salt was great. Tuna crudo: this was fabulous. Grilled oysters: this was my second time eating oysters. The first was elsewhere and they were presumably raw. This was a delicious bite of food and now I understand why people like oysters! Pasta: this was one of the best things all night. It was absolutely heavenly. Divine! It had lamb in it. I was shocked by how good this was. Risotto: this was my least favorite thing we had. The risotto was undercooked. The flavors were interesting and not what I was expecting, but I did like it. Dry aged strip: this was delectable! The mushrooms and hollandaise were room temp which was a little odd but it didn't matter because it was all so delicious. We could not finish the steak. Sweet potatoes: this was very rich and also large! Sweet potatoes with crème fraiche and also sweet potato chips.... Brilliant! I really enjoyed this, and we also took some of this home. Toffee dessert: this was a really well crafted dish. The cake with the toffee sauce, the bourbon whipped cream, the nuts, and the vanilla ice cream, plus the orange segments. It was a beautiful way to end the evening! And while it was rich, it wasn't overly sweet or cloying which is impressive with that many things going on. I really enjoyed this! All in all, we had an absolutely fantastic time. We were seated at the bar, and 3 of the chefs working on bread and tuna crudo were working near that end of the open kitchen. The best plate of the night. The crni risotto had that deep, briny flavor I've always loved, and it was easily one of the standouts. The baby octopus was cooked perfectly, tender with a bit of char, and the cevapi had that unmistakable grilled taste that felt authentic. Service was attentive without being rushed, and the atmosphere had an energy that made the whole experience even better. Rose Mary was not on my radar but I am happy I tried it. We made a reservation for two the day before. This place is pretty popular and fills up quickly. So I definitely recommend a reservation. We were seated right away. They require you to order all at once. So we started with cocktails we both had the honey vespa it was amazing love the sourness of it not too over powering. For appetizers we had the zucchini fritters they came with a pesto aoli it was very different from what I ever had but I liked it. The brussel sprouts were well cooked and flavorful. For the pasta we had rigatoni and cacacio e pepe. I wasnt a fan of the rigatoni it was well cooked but the cacacio e pepe was the star. We then ordered the pork ribs and lamb saddle. The ribs were a bit dry. That egg plant sauce under the perfectly cooked and tender lamb was delicious. I also tried the cocktail called "actin up" which is made with mezcal I didnt care for it. I specifically asked the waitress if the mezcal was very smokey and she said no but it was. For dessert we had the pistachio tart which was very good. so HAPPY that I was able to check out Rose Mary! I am already looking forward to my next visit! On Sunday night, we were able to walk in and were seated at the Chef's Counter, which was such an intimate and interactive experience! We were able to see the food being made and it almost felt like a behind the scenes look. The service was top notch, all the staff were extremely kind and interacted with us behind the counter. It was cool to see how well their team worked, it was like a well-oiled machine. The ambience was amazing, I loved the hanging plants and bench like tables. If you have the chance to sit at the chef's counter though, I would advise you take it!! For the food, we ordered the zucchini fritters, stracciatella, radiatore "cacio e pepe", caramelle, and the crni. The server also gave us a side of roasted cauliflower. Everything was shareable and was a great size for a party of 3. To start, I loved the zucchini fritters, I can see why so many orders came in! The sauce that was paired with it was delightful! I will say the stracciatella was my least favorite of the bunch, but it was still good, I think I just pictured to be better in my mind. However, the roasted cauliflower, blew me out the water. I loved the pairing of the pine nuts with the preserved lemon chili crisp. That will probably be a staple for us now! For the mains, the cacio e pep was to die for, we couldn't stop eating it! Wow, this place lives up to the hype. The food is incredible and the environment is welcoming and lively with a warm glow. We were excited to try it because we love watching Top Chef and the owner and head chef won season 15. Our server Nina was really sweet and caring. We could tell that she loves her job and goes above and beyond to care for guests and share details about how the food is prepared. There is a great view of the kitchen from the dining room and I noticed how everyone seemed focused and calm while cooking. We started with the Brussels sprouts and I honestly think they are the best I've had in my life. They have a perfect grilled texture with a complex vinaigrette that is earthy, bright, tangy, and well balanced. I loved the texture and added layer of flavor from the toppings. The spinach artichoke risotto was surprisingly bright and creamy and we loved it. It made me think that a vegetarian would be happy here, because all of the veggies were prepared so well. We also loved the pork ribs and the slaw really took the dish to the next level. I received a gluten free menu and was happy with the number of options I had to choose from. I'm obsessed with this place and it's easily one of my new favorite spots in Chicago! We were lucky enough to get last-minute reservations to celebrate my husband passing the bar, and the staff made it feel so special. At least four different employees congratulated him during our meal, which was such a thoughtful touch. We started with prosecco to toast, then followed their recommendation of about four plates for two people. We ordered the tuna crudo, cacio e pepe, cevapi, and skradin risotto. The tuna crudo and cacio e pepe were our absolute favorites, and we also really loved the skradin risotto. We spent a month in Croatia this summer, so we had to try the cevapi, but it didn't quite compare to what we had there, it wasn't even similar. Came here for Valentine's Day and their preset menu and had a great time! We made reservations and few weeks in advance as this sold out pretty quickly and we didn't regret doing so. We were seated immediately and were taken care of quickly. The space felt modern and chic - super lively as well. I think I have to give this place another try? I have wanted to go here for literally years. I came here for a birthday dinner with my friends. We tried the straceteciella and some pastas. Everything tasted super fresh and very flavorful. Definitely rich pastas, but I've recently been going to so many great Chicago restaurants to do similar things with pasta (monteverde and daises) and I just found that some of the flavor profiles weren't my favorite. I also think I need to go back again with other people and do more family style sharing. The service was good all around and they did give a free birthday dessert of gelato. I was here last week and was trying to find the names of the dish on their website but it looks like they already updated their menu. I would come back here for a special occasion and try the new menu items, but do not expect to get full or expect to spend a lot of money on 4-5 small plates. The asparagus pasta (I wish I had the name!) (4.5/5) was great and honestly surprised me. The sauce was SO creamy, the pasta was made very well and you can just tell that a lot of effort was put into the dish. The short ribs (4.5/5) was also very tasty. This is my second time at Rosemary and it's still so impressive!!! Our waiter John had great recommendations and the wine pairing he recommended went great with both of our pastas. We got the brussels to start and they were very flavorful and loved the texture with the crunchy pieces they added in. Next we got the rigatoni and cacio el pepe both cooked to perfectly and very filling loved the flavors of each dish and finished with the apple dessert which was one of my favorite i've had in a long time! It is crowded in here as it's so popular so be prepared for close quarters but being able to see the chefs cooking and surrounded by people is a great way to spend an evening. I'll admit it: my wife and I held a multi-year grudge against Rosemary. We went a couple times in the first six months after they opened and left disappointed. Then every time we tried to get a last-minute reservation they were totally booked, even though we live right here in the West Loop. For some reason that annoyed us even more. So we stopped going altogether, which in hindsight wasn't really fair. Fast forward to this past Sunday. We finally gave them another shot, and I'm really glad we did because the meal was very good. My wife ordered the $75 tagliatelle with white truffle. She is extremely picky about pasta. If it isn't al dente, she won't touch it. We told our server to make sure both pastas were cooked that way, and they came out perfectly. I ordered the mafaldine and she got the tuna for her Secondi while I tried the ribs. Everything we had was good. The ribs had a nice little spicy kick but nothing overwhelming. My pasta was excellent and she loved hers. Instead of sticking with wines I already knew, I tried a Cretan wine by the glass. Our server really knew her stuff. I told her what I usually like and she pointed me toward something that matched my usual profile. Overall, it was a very good experience. We were in town on my son's 18th birthday. We had a late lunch so we did not order a lot for my family of three. The space was welcoming with an open kitchen. Service was impeccable. All of the dishes were meant for sharing. I guess reminiscent of tapas because they were not large portions. Our favorite stand out for the night were the sweet potato with prosciutto vinaigrette, and the duck with cider au jus. The humble sweet potato has a salty meatiness, but not chewiness of meat. The mini sweet potato chips added a great contrast in texture. The cider au jus gave the duck sweetness and acidity. The charred endive was smokey. The duck was well rendered and well rested, although I wished there was a little more crispiness to the skin. I enjoyed the flavor and al dente texture of the squid ink risotto, but wished that was a tad more brininess from more squid ink. The gnocchi was also well executed, but I wished there was more sauce and more beef cheek. The truffle was a $30 supplement. The one dish that was only so-so was the burdek. It was a tad too salty and the pastry, was it supposed to be phyllo, was neither flaky or crispy. For dessert we shared the chocolate budino and the house comped the birthday boy a vanilla gelato with sprinkles. The budino had the strongest coffee gelato that I've ever tasted. I'm not sure if that's a good thing. The crunchy bits with the pudding and gelato felt like separate ingredients that didnt make a cohesive dish. In summary, the savory dishes were fantastic. I highly recommend a visit despite some minor tweaks in my comments above. Maybe skip the desserts and save the room and get an additional savory dish. read more

There's a few things that I super love doing related to food. One is binge watching Top Chef, and another is talking about being Croatian and our food. I think Rose Mary is Chef Flamm's love letter to the Balkans and we as Chicagoans are lucky he chose to write that love letter here. I've been here a handful of times and it is truly a never miss in terms of the food. The care put into the flavor profiles and technique is truly unmatched. I love this concept of creating quasi-fusion of Italy and Croatia, yet keeping the distinct heritage of each country in the individual ingredients. The menu changes seasonally as any good restaurant does. In winter, the items are much more heavy to stick to your ribs and keep you warm walking back out into the bitter lake-effect cold. In summer with the patio out, the cuisine changes to lighter, more refreshing fare that you could find at any al fresco experience in the homeland. There are also gluten-free and dairy-free options that servers are able to give alternative menus for. The staple menu items are staple for a reason. Ćevapi with all the fixings is truly one of the most divine meals and a must-try for anyone who has never had Croatian/Balkan food. Ajvar is a top tier condiment and when mixed with kajmak creates an acid + fat firework in your mouth. The ribs are incredible--glazed in a sweet sauce and fall off the bone tender. The smoked clams are truly incendiary. I would say the only staple item I don't particularly care for is the burek. The dough just strays too far from tradition in mouthfeel and color. The filling is good though, so perhaps I do care for it? I like food, okay? I would be remiss if I did not mention the best part of my last visit, which was our server, Johnny. From the first table touch to closing out after eating 5 courses, he was simply outstanding. By outstanding I mean knowledgeable of the menu offerings beyond what is expected, as well as quick to flex his years of experience with recommendations for this ever-changing and sometimes daunting menu. With and sans alcohol alike, the bar program here is operating on a level of greatness akin to the Repeat Three Peat era of your Chicago Bulls. I loved my experience at Rose Mary! The staff was fantastic, answering all of our questions and bringing the food out without us waiting too long but carefully timing it to when we finish our next course. The food itself was amazing - we got what we were told they are known for, the zucchini fritters and cacio e pepe. On top of that we got the caramelle. All three dishes were really great and I have no real complaints! It was a little cramped in there which kinda sucked but other than that I was a huge fan and would go again!! read more

Beautiful restaurant with great food overall! The botanical garden you walk through is aesthetically pleasing and I loved the rustic design tied into it as well. We were running a little behind because parking can be challenging during a Saturday evening dinner, but the front desk staff was friendly and notified us that we have a 15 minute grace period to arrive and only 2 hours to dine. My friends and I sat in the back of the restaurant and the server greeted us right away. We ordered the Zora Spritz, zucchini fritters, cacio e pepe, funghi risotto, scampi na buzzara, and the cavapi. Our favorites were the zucchini fritters and the scampi na buzzara. The sizes are meant to be shared, so 5 plates between 3 of us was a good amount of food. The spritz was quite strong. We weren't rushed overall throughout our dinner which we appreciated. The bill was reasonable given that it was in Fulton Market area. Would recommend anyone to visit if they haven't tried this spot yet! read more

We had in order of best to worst 1) Ribs- One of the best single dishes I had in Chicago. Must get 2) Zucchini Fritters - Also very good, better half loved this dish 2) Radiatore Cacio e Pepe -pretty Good , very rich 3) Cevapi -would not order again and our party agreed. This place was great. Location is great downtown in Fulton market. Ambiance is great for social gatherings, dinner or date nights. Service was great and the servers were knowledgeable. There was a good selection all around. Loved the dishes as they were seasonal with fresh ingredients and definitely provided unique flavors. read more
