These folks are great! They work through a ton of people, and keep the line moving very well. I arrived at 2:30 with a lineup right to the front door. I was out of there is just over an hour. I just figured this out today. For people who are using the LRT, you can access Canada place through the underground PedWays and stay warm. Just leave the Churchill LRT platform through the south end. Go to the Milner Library parking, turn left, and go through the Citadel Theatre. That's very handy when it's like minus a billion out there! read more

Terrible service. Called in advance to confirm that I could change the name on my passport with proof of marriage prior to changing my drivers license. When I arrived I was turned away but given a priority slip to skip the wait the next time. After paying the money to change my licence and drive back, they did not honour the priority ticket and I waited hours. Would have saved me time and money to simply file for the change online. read more

Why is nobody working?! I am at 74 Victoria St location, Passport Canada. The clerks process 1 or 2 customers, then disappear. Long breaks, hopefully they are coming back. Chatting a lot with some customers, painfully slow. Only 2-3 clerks working at any given time, out of 18 desks. There are about 12 clerks showing up, from time to time. read more

I like living close enough to a Passport Canada office that I can go into the office in person for a renewal. I could mail my renewal application (and passport) in person, but I like coming to the Passport Canada office in Canada Place. Aside from having to drive downtown and pay for parking I've always found my experience here to be pretty pleasant. I know some people aren't going to enjoy coming down to get a passport, but I'm okay with it, mainly because I know renewing my passport means getting to travel. Plus rumour has it that if you renew or send in a passport application in person it takes less time to get approved than if you were to mail your application in. When you go in security will ask if you're getting a new passport or a renewal and will send you to the right line. You'll get up to a counter, and someone will review your forms, photos, and passport (if renewing). If you've missed something on the form, you'll need to fix the application or refill out a new one. I recommend filling out the form at home (available online at www.passport.gc.ca). If you filled out something incorrectly or missed something you might have to complete a new form, so it's also best to bring a pen with you. There was only one desk to sit at and fill out your forms, and it was pretty busy. After (hopefully) getting approved at the first counter, you're given a ticket with a number on it. There's a digital display that will show which ticket numbers are ready to go up for the rest of the process. So even though it can get busy, and looks busy, it's pretty organized. I think my friend and I waited about 20 minutes while we were there. The workers here are super customer service friendly, but they're polite and quick, which is what you want in a place like this. Depending on what passport you are getting the cost varies. For an adult, the 5-year passport costs $120 and the 10 year costs $160. Looking at it another way the 5-year passport $2/month, and the 10 year one works out to $1.33/month, which seems like a reasonable price to pay for travel. They only accept payment by debit or credit card, so some prepared. If you want to keep your old passport, as a memento of your previous travels, be sure to let them know before you pay, or else they'll destroy your old passport. Finally, I'll finish this review with a small word of warning - make sure to give yourself lots of time to get you a passport, especially if you have travel plans. Back in 2010 I came into renew my passport, and this girl asked if she could go ahead of me in line. Not being in a rush I said, "sure." She went up to the counter and asked if she could get her passport right away because she had an international flight leaving in 3 hours. What? I'm sorry. Even a rush passport won't be approved in 3 hours (plus having to get to the airport, and go through security, and customs she would have never made her flight). So just remember this. Get your passport application in before, weeks, even months, before you need it. Passport Canada it was fun. Hopefully, I won't have to go back here until 2025. read more

Despite having to fill out a bazillion pages and get the photos just so and sign away your first born, once you are done with the application process the ability to come on down and turn it in and have it reviewed in person for any errors/missing parts is absolutely fantastic! Even with a long line, you can usually be in and hour in an hour or two and it's so nice to be able to go downstairs to the food court in the basement of Canada Place for a coffee or snack and watch the screens to tell you when you're number is up. What could make this place better? Open later, open weekends, free parking? A girl can dream... Either way, I appreciate the ability to turn in our applications in person. We've utilized the service here 3 times now in the past 5 years (darn babies and rug rats need theirs renewed much quicker) and it's been great! Our last batch of passports we dropped off and had back in our hot little hands through the mail to our house in 2 weeks time! read more

It is surprisingly easy to renew your passport now. Gone are the days where you get some guarantor and you are running around town trying to get your picture signed. Now with the simplified process all you need is to fill in and printout the PDF form, get two people who you've know over two years and include your photos. It really is simpler now. All on the website. Surprisingly easy. The line up was long when I went. It was outside the door on a Monday afternoon. Given the line up I think it went at a decent speed. The clerk even thoroughly check my form and highlighted a few missing boxes. Once I submitted everything they will send the passport via registered mail to my address. Of course I could of just mailed it all in, but that's no fun! read more

I have got to say I was very impressed with how amazingly fast, efficient and friendly everyone at Passport Canada is. I Had to get my passport renewed so I went to the main office in Canada Place. There are 3 security officers that direct you to the correct paperwork, hand you a clipboard and directed you as to where to fill it out. After you are finished they confirm you have everything you need and then show you which line up is for you. I walked right up and was helped immediately, there was only one person in that line ahead of me. The woman that helped me was very friendly, she highlights the mistakes you made and tells you how to easily fix them, then she gives you a number and you take a seat. There were about 30 people waiting with tickets, but probably 8 windows open. It only took about 15-20 minutes of waiting before my number came up. Another super friendly and nice woman helped me with the rest of the application process, I paid, she told me when it would be ready to be picked up - in 5 days time, because I asked for it to be rushed and paid the $30 extra for it. You know, in case I make a last minute dash to the US to see Lord Stanley's Cup vied for... And that was that! Easy peasy!! Didn't took long to apply for Canadian passport, just make sure you come early. We went around 8 am and we were done at 9 am. Definitely less busy in the morning. While waiting to be called you can go down for a quick breakfast at the food court downstairs and there are couple of monitors that displays numbers to the line up at passport canada office to know if you are close to being called. read more

I'm so glad to see all the positive reviews of this office! It can be so easy to focus on the negative, but really this place runs very smoothly and effectively. I picked up the application paperwork at AMA a few weeks ago and took my time filling them out... you really have to make sure that you get it all filled out correctly! The office opens at 7:30. I got there between 7:15 & 7:30 and joined the line that had already started forming. There were probably 20 people ahead of me. This is a far cry better than the last time I was there (5 years ago) when you would get there at 7 am and there would be a line twice that long already. Right before 7:30, the security guard walks down the line to ask if anybody is there for passport pickup - there is an express line for that, so he pulls you out of the main line and moves you to the right place. Promptly at 7:30, the doors open. You stand in line again until you get to the pre-screening desk. They look over your application and make sure that there are no glaring issues (everything is filled out, you have the right photos and ID etc...) then you're given a number and told to have a seat. You have to keep an eye on the display that shows you which number is up and what window you need to go to. I think it used to buzz or beep when a new number was being called, but it doesn't anymore. The staff at the counters are really efficient and know what they're doing. You are given a file number and told to call if you don't receive it by a certain date. I was out shortly before 8 am! What a change from the old days when you would have to be there for a couple of hours. I should mention that this was on a Tuesday morning. I was told that Mondays and Fridays are the busiest (security guard confirmed this as well). You'll get your passport in the mail in about 10 days if you do it here - as opposed to 5 - 6 weeks if you do it at one of the passport receiving offices in the city (Meadowlark and the northside are the main ones that come to mind - maybe millwoods as well?). read more

I went down to the passport office recently to renew my passport after five wonderful years together. I printed off the renewal forms at home for myself and my husband and filled them out ahead of time. The Passport Canada website is really quite good, with all of the forms you need and related instructions, and FAQs. We got our pictures taken next door at Photo Stop and he went to wait in line while I waited for the photos. There are two lines you have to wait in: the first line is pre-screening, where someone looks over your application to make sure everything is correct and in order, takes your payment, and then gives you a number to wait in the next line. There are a bunch of chairs for you to sit in while you're waiting for your number to come up on the automated board. Once you go up to the counter for the second time, you drop off your application and it's done! There are about 20 or so 'tellers' there to process applications, so even though it sounds like there's a lot of waiting involved, they move very quickly. From the time we stepped into the first line to the time we left was only an hour, which is a small price to pay for the privilege of having a passport. The staff I dealt with this time were fairly generic and efficient - no problems there. Be sure to ask them to cancel your passport and give it back to you as a souvenir :) They actually asked me if I wanted it back, and I heard the teller next to her asking the person next to me as well. I've also had to phone Passport Canada and it wasn't that bad. I really like the fact that while you're waiting on hold, they tell you often what position you are in line so you can tell how quickly the line ahead of you is moving. I went in on January 24 and they told me the passports would be mailed on or before February 7 but not sooner. I was quite pleased when they arrived on February 2! read more

This has only been the third time I've ever needed to be at Passport Canada, and I'm still surprised at the speed in which they operate here here. I always spend the cash for four hours of parking, but so far, I've only ever needed two hours to get my business done. FYI if you are ever in need of an International Tax Number, this is the location to go to, as the West End one no longer exists. This is where you go to get your passport 'certified true', and you can get up to three copies for $45. As always, the line ups are HUGE, but this is one government office that clicks along with a great deal of efficiency. They're hard working and friendly over there, and once your turn is up, you'll be done in no time. read more

This is one of those tedious things that no one likes to do, but the process is really quite streamlined and efficient. You wait in line to see the pre screening people and they make sure that everything on your forms is filled out correctly and answer any questions you may have. My fiancé forgot his birth certificate the first time we went in (le sigh) so we had to go back, but the question we had about using my mom was answered and we got a supplementary form for him to fill out for we wouldn't have to redo the entire thing. We also got a little ticket to give to security for our next visit so we could get a number straight off and skip the screening process. On our second trip, the wait was nice and short and the guy we dealt with was really efficient. My renewal and my fiances first time application went smoothly and our passports should be here in plenty of time for our honeymoon. read more

The best way to apply to get your passport is in person, and this office is a perfect example of getting through the government requirements with relative ease. The building (Canada Place) is actually really gorgeous and the office itself is organized in a really useful way with lines for particular tasks (first line to check your initial paperwork and get a number, second line to actually submit your paperwork and pay). If all goes well you'll receive your passport in short order (it took me less than two weeks to get mine!) and then you don't have to worry about getting a new one for a bunch of years (5 or 10 depending on what type of passport you apply for). The numbers are displayed on large enough screens and in enough places that you should have no problem finding the right counter to visit once your number comes up. Security is ample here too which is excellent for getting this task done. read more

very impressed with the speed and efficiency. ahead of time, fill in and printout the PDF form, information of two people who you've know over two years and bring passport photos. thats it. no photo guarentor, etc. they say its a maximum of 10 working days guaranteed, but standard passport renewal can often be done within 7 working days. 10 year expiry is a new option. much more desireable, and convenient duration. there was no line at the passport department in Canada Place, Edmonton - 4:30PM on a friday. the finished passport is no longer picked up, but rather mailed to your house via secured and registered mail. Mix of sun and cloud with this joint. I've got my passport renewed here and not much problems. Some of the people working here definitely have attitudes but I never ran into them. My wife needed a rushed passport renewal (we had tickets bought for 10 days in advance) and she was treated terrible. She called me in tears wondering what to do so I asked if I could talk to the Passport officer and the she (officer) wouldn't take the phone. That's pretty obvious that she didn't want to help if she's won't explain to anything me or my wife. If you don't get any of the weeds that work here you'll have NO problems if you do you wont be able to do a thing right. read more

My husband and I am very impressed with the service. We were very tense as our flight was in two days. We reached pass port office at 8 a.m.There was no line up and our application was pre-screened. We waited 15-20 minutes and were at the window. The person we had was very efficient and fast.He told us that there is no guarantee and if they were not able to get hold of our references, we will not get our passports. If we do not get any call from them, we can come and pick up our passports next day at 4 p.m. We were back home in one hour. Luckily we did not get any call. We drove next day and it took us 5 minutes to get our passports. It was that easy. Of course if you get urgent passport renewal it cost you $110.00 per person extra. read more
