I do come here not for that, but to rather admire the beautiful architecture and stunning grounds here. Located next to the North Saskatchewan River, you can see the magnificent dome from afar. No one can deny the amazing architecture done here. Everyone marvels around the marble pillars and all other fixtures made of either mahogany, oak or brass. The Legislature grounds is also an ideal place for friends and families. I've actually witnessed so many wedding pictorials held in here in the past and remains a favorite spot. With a beautiful landscape, grassy areas, colorful flowers, and benches under beautifully lined trees, this is a nice place to hold a picnic, play some board or ball games, read a book, or simply hang around daytime or even night time. One outstanding feature of the Legislature grounds is the huge fountain in front of the building where people can either swim or dip toes in the pool during summer months. The same pool freezes during winter months and turns into a skating rink so grab your skates on. Spare extra time to join a free guided tour but make sure to register in advance online. This is something I need to do on my next visit because I heard they have a brand new visitor center with different galleries and state-of-the-art 4-D theatre where you can actually feel the snow and wind on your face.

Aside from checking out the beautiful Legislature grounds this is indoors - so great for winter guests to the city. Inside they have a living wall and a water feature which make you feel super chilled as it's so tranquil as soon as you step in the door. There is a gallery space called the Borealis Gallery, it's exhibitions change often but currently it's a very though provoking collection on Canadian identity and cultural diversity. The Agora Interpretive Centre is an interactive and fun way (especially for kids) to learn the sorties of Edmonton's past and Albertan history too. The Pehonan Theatre is the main reason I go to the Leg visitor centre. There they show a short 4D movie on a 360-degree screen called 'Our People, Our Province'. I really love it and it's quite spectacular to watch something in 4D and feel so immersed in it. I don't want to ruin any surprises from this so just trust me and go watch it. It's free and I think it's on every 20 mins. While you wait for the next showing pop into the gift shop selling Alberta made gifts, art and more.

First, the good to know info: - They are open 362 days of the year and admission is ALWAYS FREE! - Clean public washrooms are available - Their living wall creates a toasty environment, even in the dead of winter (kind of like walking into the Citadel Theatre) - Candy is available in the gift shop :P The exhibit in rotation was a hooked rug exhibit...which sounds super homestead-ey. Actually, the departure from hooking rugs being a commonplace household activity to an art form (as industrialization took place and factory-produced rugs are now commonplace) is fascinating. From what is depicted on the rugs (ie. transitioning from welcome mats to decorative pieces), to the colours of wool used, to the interpretation of the rugs...hooked rugs rightfully earn their place in the art world. Who woulda thunk it?? The video (immersive and experiential) is fascinating and very thoughtfully composed to introduce tourists (or children) to Alberta's history. From Alberta's namesake to our Indigenous roots, the entire show is attention-grabbing and informative. As a free add-on to any visit to the Legislature, it is absolutely worth it! The one thing that would have brought my visit to the next level was the fact that there is no concession/cafe in the Centre. You're not allowed to bring food or drinks into the exhibits/theatre, of course. But it would have been wonderful to sit by the living wall with a book and a coffee in hand, especially with all of the invitingly huge windows.

I often come here because of the amazing trails. I often see other dog lovers here as well. Just below the pagoda there are some wicked trails on the river valley leading to the downtown core or the west end near the valley zoo. I have explored extensively and the trails can range from easy paved to steep trails in the river valley. Frequented by runners and cyclists these trails are busy and the most safest in the river valley. I have yet to see any homeless living in the woods which are common in downtown heading east on the river valley. There are breathtaking views any visitor to edmonton should see here. A short 5 min walk on a trail gets you some of the best views of edmontons west and downtown. Theres ample parking during the day and its easy to get a bite or drink afterwards due to the central location. You honestly just need 10 minutes here to see it all. But spend an hour hiking down to the river valley and the views are worth it!

My visit today was prompted by Yelp reviews of Registry offices in the Edmonton area. I required…read moresome searches specific to enforcing a court judgement. A previous visit to the Registry office closest to my home in Stony Plain was an effort in futility. The line was moderate when I arrived and I had to wait for a bit. There was a sign posted explaining they were short staff due to summer holidays. I'm glad I got there after the lunch rush and not near the end of the month. When I got to the front of the line I realized I was dealing with the Manager. Shanon was very friendly, she understood EXACTLY what I was looking for and was very eager to help. It is indeed a pleasure to deal with a business that understand the needs of their customer. (Possibly even better than I did.) The only thing I would change is the number of people available to help customers. But this is Alberta in the summer which makes this a difficult task. The time Shanon spent with me along with her knowledge and patience pretty much ensures that my future Registry business will be done here.

St. Albert Place is pretty awesome and houses soooooo much more than you could ever imagine! I LOVE Love LOVE, did I mention that I LOVE that fact that this is the centre hub for the outdoor summer farmer's market?!? Indoor washrooms, clean, cool, air conditioned AND the kiddos and you can even take a break in the library if you need to rest your feet for a bit and cool off before venturing back out to Western Canada's largest outdoor farmer's market! My kiddos love the piano they put outside in the summer to play and the creative bronze statues in the front. Of course, don't forget the Sturgeon River promenade on the North and West side of the building which connects to our trails. And let's not forget the Arden theatre which is also housed here! Parking can be challenging at times but that pretty much goes the same in any city and face it, we are lucky in St. Albert that we don't have to pay to park "downtown." My family is probably in this building at least once a week if not more in the summer and we've never had an issue with cleanliness, seating, or ample washroom availability! When can you say that? If you want to see some of the best Edmonton has to offer, then the high level streetcar is the way to do it.
