I often come here because of the amazing trails. I often see other dog lovers here as well. Just below the pagoda there are some wicked trails on the river valley leading to the downtown core or the west end near the valley zoo. I have explored extensively and the trails can range from easy paved to steep trails in the river valley. Frequented by runners and cyclists these trails are busy and the most safest in the river valley. I have yet to see any homeless living in the woods which are common in downtown heading east on the river valley. There are breathtaking views any visitor to edmonton should see here. A short 5 min walk on a trail gets you some of the best views of edmontons west and downtown. Theres ample parking during the day and its easy to get a bite or drink afterwards due to the central location. You honestly just need 10 minutes here to see it all. But spend an hour hiking down to the river valley and the views are worth it!

I suggest showing up before 7:40 am as it will be hard to find a parking spot otherwise. The format is usually housekeeping items for a couple minutes, then Derek Pyne - who is the membership guru and runs the breakfasts - has everyone start doing introductions. The introductions are very quick - 20 seconds or so and the room is covered within the first half hour. The second part of the breakfast is a guest speaker that will speak for about 20 minutes. The speakers range from local and provincial politicians to developers, larger industry reps and small business owners. The meal part of the breakfast is usually boiled eggs, yoghurt, fruit, almonds and pastries etc. Overall, they are a friendly group that will welcome newcomers (and even give them a round of applause).

If you can LRT it, that's a good plan but I feel ya in the cold blizzard winter months, parking it is. At least Revel is located next door if you manage to come here in the late afternoon and can hit happy hour next door afterwards. Be prepared to wait for days, well more likely hours but it feels like days when you're needing help at the passport office. Immigration and citizenship are also handled here - spent many, many hours here but thankfully that's done! As well as taxes, yuck. There are pedways connected to many other spots here including the Shaw Convention centre. In the basement is a small food court but it's PRICEY - why? Why can't you just have a subway or something delicious and reasonable like that?

You have to wonder about some of the bad reviews. There was a lady behind me in line who thought a 15 minute wait was the longest line she'd ever seen, started screaming at someone on the phone while she was in line, and started yelling at the guy in the office as I was leaving. Some people are impossible to please.

Granted, Edmonton is more of a hockey town - but from the Edmonton Legislatures to the Edmonton Oilers (yes, a baseball club firstly) - it's a piece of our history. Two fun facts about this baseball bat that are often overlooked: 1. It's the worlds largest baseball bat! Surely there is *some* pride in having a giant baseball bat once you know that it's a world-recording holding piece of art. 2. It spins! That's right, grab some friends, head down to the baseball bat and start spinning. You can push it solo, but let me warn you - it gets pretty tough when you're moving around the southern bend. Need a good work out spot? Park near the Alberta Avenue Community League and walk/jog the few blocks to the bat. Once there, spin it! Trust me, it can be quite the upper body work out. As an added bonus, the shocked look of people walking/driving by when they see the bat actually spins is definitely worth it. If my review of this darling piece of Edmontonia hasn't swayed you, at least one thing may make you feel a bit better... It cost way less than the Talus Dome! ($600,000)
