I first went here Aug. 2010 for restaurant week and again this week (Jan 2011). The two experiences were vastly different.
First time:
Hubby ordered the lobster clay pot with sushi for appetizer and a creme brulee, my amazingly wonderful waiter suggested a sockeye salmon that the chef recommended was of amazing quality and it was... and for desert i got the praline mousse crunch. Service was fast despite how busy the restaurant was, the ambiance was great. I couldnt stop raving.
the second time was a whole another experience lol! I am usually not at all a complainer and in fact try to go easy on the restaurant given all the stuff that can go wrong...
My waitress was quite snooty unlike my previous experience and when I asked what is the chef recommending tonight, she had nothing to offer, she just kept repeating everything is good everything is good. ok...
So, my friend and I ordered the exact same meal, blackened red fish, which came after waiting FORTY minutes!!!!! it wasn't bad but not spectacular either, sockeye salmon was not available, I had the ngiri sushi - did not care much for it, I've had better, and I felt the ngiri was very thick - the praline crunch again, no complaints there.
Now apart from the 6 out of 10 for the food, while eating my entree i picked up my glass of water, and suddenly the entire bottom just FELL along with the icy water on my white pants (thank god for the spanx I had on, otherwise my underwear would be on full display) i had wet feet, my pants were quite wet from top to bottom, as was my purse (who knew there was so much water in that little glass?!, even the tablecloth was fully wet. well, it took a minute for anyone to come help me, apparently glasses sometimes do that going from hot to cold constantly (well they should 'rest' their glasses after a washing if they know this).
They brought me extra linens to help me wipe up, my meal was full of water so they brought me a replacement meal which was literally 1/3 the fish size of the original, but the person who brought it insisted that it goes by weight, but i know that it was NOT the same weight, but i ignored it and proceeded to eat it, however, it was another fish altogether with just black pepper on it, no salt, no other seasoning that makes it blackened red fish. By this point i was extremely annoyed sitting in wet clothes, with the wrong meal, and no sign of a restaurant manager who would even apologize let alone comp my meal, which is the least I expect.
I apologized to my waiter and told her this was not my meal and to have it remade and packed up to take home. Two ladies who had been sitting behind me came up and queried as to if my meal was comped or if i received any apology, i told her no and I saw my waitress noticing this conversation. well right after this the gentleman who insisted I received the same fish came by with a whole bag of packed food apologizing and letting me know they made me a fresh meal and they comped my meal for both the water and for making me the wrong meal. I dont know if it was because of the other guests noticing this or this was their intention all along.
Either way, I understand things happen, however, the service was very slow, the restaurant was only about half full; I didn't care much for my waitress, the meal did not live up to its price tag or the brand. I don't know if the chef changed or what happened. I know my meal was comped,
but I would love to have another really good eating experience, and wouldnt mind paying for it. read more
