We recently ordered online from this place for a quick snack. As it turns out the wait time was much longer than the ETA provided. Not only did they postpone our order multiple times in a row, but also the food items came in a sloppy package. Our driver disclosed their business practice to us: Delays are the inevitable unfortunate consequences of the husband - wife pair running the entire show! They don't hire workers. Wife is the only server and husband is the sole cook. So online customers pay more only to suffer from their stingness and greed. No one was in there, but we decided to check it out. My best friend ordered udon and a wrap sushi roll and I got a family affair and the Berkeley roll. I've always walked by this place on Northside, but never thought to go inside. Something about the name didn't scream to me amazing sushi, so it was never on my mind. However, my friend recommended this spot to me one day so we came on a Friday night. It wasn't too busy, and we were able to get seated right away at prime dinner time. Their menu features a ton of signature rolls as well as the classics, and some other entrees that aren't sushi. I decided to get the three amigos roll which was crab and spicy tuna inside, wrapped in salmon and avocado on the outside. For what was in this roll, the price was super reasonable! I love how it was basically all fish, and with salmon and spicy tuna being two of my favorites, I knew I had to try it. The fish was so fresh and the sauce on top added great flavor to the entire piece. I was so happy to finally find a good quality sushi spot in Berkeley! Stumbled upon this place after a morning at the Berkeley Botanical Gardens with my mom. The name of the restaurant made us not expect much, but the pictures and our stomachs got us into the door. Thank God it did! This place was amazing! First of all, the prices compared to across the Bay Bridge were reasonable. The customer service was great! The server was very accommodating and friendly. We don't eat shrimp and she made sure to note our specifications for our order. They accommodated by adding more veggie tempura to our order. The miso soup and green tea hit the spot because it was warm and not too hot. The fish here is fresh and melt in your mouth! The presentation for the chirashi was beautiful. The flavors were delicious and even the shiitake mushroom was cooked well. It was worth the price. The veggie tempura was crunchy and the veggies were not over cooked and you could still tell they were veggies. The salmon teriyaki has great sauce and tasted great. The rice with the sesame on top added more flavor to an overwise bland side. The house salad was fresh and the lettuce was crunchy. The Family Affair roll has raw onions and scallions on top. We were warned beforehand, but it added to the freshness and flavor of the roll. The mayo sauce used on top was yummy. Every time we come across the bay, we will be sure to visit this restaurant. The order was ready when I got there about 10 minutes after my pickup time (25 minutes after I called). Unfortunately, the rolls were not very good. The fish didn't taste very fresh and the layer of rice was sparse in some places, making for some sad looking sushi (though lower carb, ha). Strangely there was also a sweet sauce on top of the rainbow roll, perhaps to mask the taste of the fish. Long overdue review for a restaurant I frequently order take out from! I typically see a few occupied tables and bags of take out ready to go whenever I pick my food up, so I would say either is a safe bet for quick service. I've never had an order take longer than 20 minutes to prepare (I usually get 2-3 rolls or chirashi) and they offer large party platters that require a few hours of advance notice. The food is ready this fast very consistently so I sometimes place an order on my walk back from the Safeway a few blocks north and it's ready by the time I arrive! I agree with another Yelper that the name was a little off-putting at first and is why I hadn't tried Party Sushi until this year, but I promise it's worth the try! The people who run this restaurant are so friendly and always say thanks and wish me a good day on my way out. You can order through their website and they are also on some delivery apps. There's practically no wait at all if you decide to place an order in person, as they get started on your food ASAP. I'll admit I was a bit skeptical when I saw the name Party Sushi, but this was the best sushi restaurant that I have been to in the Berkeley area. We started off ordering the basic rolls, which ranged from $6 to $9, and ordered the Rock'N'Roll, Spicy Tuna, Sake Maki, and Party Scallop Roll. They each had their own unique flavors and are great options if you are looking for less expensive but high quality sushi. All the rolls also had great portion sizes and were between 6 to 8 pieces per roll, so I would recommend ordering a couple rolls and sharing. I think where Party Sushi shines is their specialty rolls. We loved the basic rolls so much that we ordered the Oyishi and Tenkazu Roll, and they were both worth paying a bit extra. The Oyishi was a tuna roll with avocado and topped with salmon. The salmon was incredibly rich and fatty, and I was surprised about high quality the fish was. The Tenkazu had a variety of different textures playing off eachother with the crab, tuna, and tempura topping. My favorites would be the Rock'N'Roll, Party Scallop, and Oyishi rolls. read more

Party sushi changed ownership a few years back, I think just before Covid. We used to go there all the time then stopped. Heard the quality wasn't the same as with three pervious chef. Well, they were wrong. The quality is great. It's run by a young Asian couple Tom (the chef) and Joanne (the server) and family is support staff :). Everything we've ordered is great. It's a regular visit when we decide to go for sushi in that area. Ambiance is fine although apparently more people since Covid like to order out, so getting a seat, reservation isn't or hadn't been an issue. I was nearby and craving sushi, so I decided to try Party Sushi. The ratings were decent, but the photos of the sushi looked good, especially their salmon. Parking was street parking (metered). There were a few groups waiting outside for their takeout orders already, so I assumed the wait would be about 20-30 minutes. I ordered a couple of sake maki rolls and salmon nigiri, and the lady told me it will be about 20-25 minutes, so I added extra money to my meter and decided to walk down Shattuck to a boba shop that is about a 10 minutes walk - one way since by the time I come back, so I give them some extra time to prepare my order just in case and it will be about 30-35 minutes when I am back. I came back with my milk tea to enjoy with my sushi in about 30/35 minutes, went up to the counter and expected my order to be done. The lady looked at me with a blank and confused stare, then tried to look for my order and receipt. I believe they misplaced my receipt/ticket and she tried to play it off that they were busy and it will be an extra 15 minutes, but I heard her speak Chinese to the sushi chef about what really happened - she should had just been apologetic, honest and upfront about it instead of lying. If I had not waited so long already, I would had just cancelled my order, but I already waited almost 45 minutes at this point and I was hungry. After waiting an extra 15 minutes, I noticed a group of new customers getting their food, so I went up to the counter again and asked - the lady ensured me it will be ready in 10 minutes, I heard her rushing the sushi chef, but he refused to do mine until he finishes the orders he was working on (this exchange between the lady and the sushi chef was in Chinese). I ended up having to feed the meter again because of this whole incident, and ended up getting my food after about an hour and 15 minutes. After tasting the salmon, it was not fresh at all and super fishy which left a weird taste in my mouth. read more

This is a good example of "you get what you pay for". I ordered the lunch special (lunch bento beef teriyaki) with spicy tuna and it came out to $14.88 without tip. The lunch included ~1/2 cup of miso soup, rice, house salad, beef teriyaki, 6 pieces of sushi. About half the beef was just fat and the spicy tuna was fishy. (Again, you get what you pay for.) I was pleased with the miso soup, which was much warmer than the beef teriyaki (room temperature). Aside from the fattiness though, the beef marinade/sauce is actually quite nice. Overdressing seemed to be a theme since the house salad and beef were both sauced up to the max. I'd rather take my bucks down the street and pay for overpriced salad because at least you get the good ingredients. Cheap sushi means you get, well, other things. read more

Sure enough, I checked my original receipt and they added a fat tip for themselves! I reported this to my credit company and they removed the fraudulent charge. Don't let this place's wholesome family-run business vibes fool you, they WILL do dishonest shit like this. Check your billing statements! This is in addition to the portion size decreasing and prices increasing since they took over from the old owners earlier this year. Overall very disappointing.
