On this particular outing a friend was eager to take my husband and I to his favorite coffee shop in his hometown of Bloomington, ID. Hopscotch Coffee & Kitchen sits right in along the Bloomington Rail Trail. The setting of the cafe is calm, inviting, and simple. A large porch welcomes you to the shop; it's obviously a local favorite. When you enter the shop the coffee bar is to the right, comfortable couch seating along with work tables and cafe tables are to the left. If you want something more than a coffee and a treat there is a restaurant towards the back on your left. The cortado was delicious and the company was priceless. I hope you're able to share a cortado with someone soon. It's a good way to turn something ordinary into something special. Enjoying life one cortado at a time!

Definitely the college vibe of the decade, no one talks and has their faces on a Saturday planted in the computer. If not being socially inclined just sit in the dorm/apartment. The sweets were pricey but tasty. You can sit on the porch, inside or get out of there (never liked tolerated but liked a place so much as this spot). The cashier was swamped, asked about her having help, which I was told she was cleaning (4p), but she finally slithered over to help get orders rolling.

The pastry was great, with nice layers but not overly flaky for my taste like a lot of danishes; it had a nice tenderness to it. The filling was delicious, like a cheesy roasted red pepper dip baked into a danish. The cake was also great, not too sweet and very aesthetically pleasing too. The tea was really nice, with the fruit flavors balanced with the green tea. The shop is very cute and felt welcoming. There's a lot of outdoor seating. They have some local art prints for sale and there's even a printer for customer use. The baristas were friendly.

It's really a unusual Customerservice experience as the employees aren't that friendly and don't seem very hospitable and welcoming.

It was a weird experience, and their large size was substantial enough that I wondered if it was needed, but I was satisfied that I'd broadened my palate by the end of it. I had no room for food, but they had some vegetarian options and abundant sweets, and they appeared to be selling houseplants as well. I have no doubt that if I were local, I'd be back to try a lot more.

I usually go for the Razz-Matazz iced latte (raspberry and dark chocolate), but this time, I decided to branch out and try one of the seasonal specials, the Frosted Animal Cookie Latte. The presentation reminded me of the viral "dot cakes" with the vibrant pink cold foam and nonpareil sprinkles. It's definitely on the sweeter side, but I love sweet, so it was perfect for me! I am also impressed with how friendly the staff is. They are always polite and efficient, and they are always diligent about watching out for allergies. I appreciate that they have a list of common allergens that are used in their drinks at the register. Soma really has something for everyone, so it's the perfect coffee shop for groups!

It's Sunday morning in downtown Bloomington. Busy happens. What followed was not "busy." It was astonishingly poor service and even worse problem-solving. My wife and daughters ordered, and then we waited. After AN HOUR, my wife went inside to ask what was happening. She was told, "Sorry, the IU basketball team is here. Let me see what happened." Apparently the arrival of the IU basketball team creates some kind of breakfast singularity in which ordinary customers cease to exist. The employee said they would check. They never came back. Another 45 minutes passed. So after ONE HOUR AND FORTY-FIVE MINUTES, my wife and daughter -- both of whom had been loyal Inkwell customers -- were left feeling like they simply did not matter because more important people had walked through the door. That is what makes this experience so disappointing. Restaurants get busy. Orders get lost. Mistakes happen. But when you discover that a family has been waiting an hour, tell them you will investigate, disappear for another 45 minutes, and then offer essentially no apology, urgency, ownership, or attempt to make things right, that is not a kitchen problem. That is a customer-service problem. Eventually they agreed to refund us. So the single star is awarded because Inkwell did, in fact, return our money after failing to provide breakfast and did not lock the doors to prevent our escape. Cherish it.

I had a Red Pepper & Sweet Potato Quiche, an Almond Joy Cookie, and a Lavender Vanilla Chai Latte. All the food was delicious. I don't think I've had sweet potato in a quiche before but the texture worked really well with the egg base. The pastry crust was also perfect. The cookie was soft and thick, and they offered to warm it up for me which was a nice finishing touch. The chai latte was also great. The lavender flavour was subtle but it gave the drink a very smooth and soothing flavour. I really like that the lavender vanilla flavour is in the concentrate they use rather than being from added syrup on top of a standard chai concentrate, so you get a good depth of flavour with less excess sweetness. The baristas were really nice. There was a small chalkboard that listed some of the quiches/galettes, but it looked like there was more in the case than what was on the board, and I also wanted to ask about the two chai flavours, so I had a lot of questions, but the staff was really helpful and didn't get impatient.
