After several stays in the Kanab, Utah, area over decades to visit Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, finally decided to try the historic Parry Lodge in Kanab. Several famous movie stars stayed here back in the Westerns heydays. It has a fun retro vibe with a beautiful main building that houses the breakfast area as well as lovely sitting areas. It also has a lovely, well-maintained outdoor pool but I didn't end up taking advantage of it due to rain both evenings were we there. We stayed in the "Joey Bishop" cottage, which is actually connected to another suite next door. They gave us a free upgrade to a king suite because they accidentally canceled our reservation a few days before we were scheduled to arrive (still not sure what happened there). It definitely felt like a step back in time with historic design including a sitting porch outside and a roomy living room/bedroom as well as separate bathroom. It had a large "closet" area in the bathroom that was undoubtedly historic. There was also a fun window in the bathroom that hinged on the bottom but I don't think it opens anymore after many coats of paint. Also the living room floor sloped considerably but at least it had a smooth flooring over its entirety. Outlets were quite loose and of course did not have the modern cell phone connectors so good thing we brought our own converters from home. The included breakfast was delicious especially the sausage and the breakfast casserole. Very friendly and helpful waitstaff. Had an interesting barn in the back 40; my guess is for weddings and the like. Definitely fun to stay at, but be very, very careful walking around the property if you are elderly like us because we both tripped and almost face-planted a couple of times because of numerous up and down steps (some without railings) inside and out. read more

Well, we've given Parry Lodge three other tries. It really is hit or miss here. Funny story, as we travel to SLC during the Christmas holiday, we happened to stay here. We didn't arrive until late Christmas Eve and the lobby was shut down. (fine). We didn't know how to get into our room. After some phone calls were made, we were able to get in the room. As previously mentioned, this hotel/lodge is under new management and has been renovated /updated. Not all the rooms have been redone. The golden age of small bathrooms with no counter space has long since passed. Since we travel to SLC quite frequently, one night is perfect for the Parry Lodge. read more

Putting old time actors names above each door does not nostalgia make. It's just old, and in desperate need of updates. The one pro was that it was clean. Being extremely tired from a long drive I just wanted to flop on the bed and watch TV. But no TV in the bedroom room. There was a weird living room when you first walk in that only has one place to sit. An old dark velvet fabric couch. Nope. That is where the TV was. Two a/c wall units. One in living and one in the bedroom. They were both loud and the window treatments (that were yellowish and in bad shape) covered the air flow. I needed to eat and use my computer. There was only a small corner of a stand that held the microwave in my bedroom. No place to charge a phone/computer. All outlet covers were yellowed, oldish smell and parking was a hassle. Could not get passed the first parked car to get to my space in front of my door. Didn't sleep well due to noisy a/c. Left early; didn't bother to try to navigate the small bathroom for a shower; lobby locked up and dark. read more

Don't believe the old reviews on this place. They must've had an ownership change because our stay was great! When my friends told me they booked this place and I read the reviews after-the-fact, I was so sure it was going to be old, dank, musty and gross. We arrived at night and I was still skeptical of this place. Front desk told us to park on the side of the building on the dirt area. Driving around out back, there was this creepy abandoned barn that gave me horror movie vibes. Our room was in the newer 2-story building. Walking inside though, there were lights everywhere and pictures of celebrities who have stayed there. I saw a guy cleaning one of the rooms and the hallway smelled of Lysol or some cleaner. Ok, good sign I thought. Our room was pretty big with 2 queen beds and a vanity with a sink just outside the bathroom, so two sinks total (convenient!). The furniture was like what you'd find in a 90's home. It felt homey instead of hotel-like which I kinda liked. TV, fridge, microwave.. check. But no coffee maker. You can actually request hot water from the front desk and they'll give you a pitcher. Now the surprises, which made this stay so spectacular. The pillows were SO fluffy. The bed was lined with a thicker, textured design sheet compared to your average hotel paper-thin sheet, and the mattress was soft and comfy. I had way better sleep here than I did at the Hilton the night before. The best part? The bathroom has a heater under the sink that you can control the temperature with a dial on the wall, so it was nice and toasty all the time. It was so awesome! I also noticed the baseboards in the room, the bathtub and caulking in the bathroom were spotless. That's how you know a place is clean. They offer a small breakfast in the dining room for a small $, but we opted out so we can try other restaurants across the street. The coffee and tea are always free. I definitely judged Parry Lodge before arriving here, but boy was I wrong! It is a quaint little place with a nostalgic historic feel, and was not creepy at all. I think this was the hotspot back in the day for western films. A lot of hikers stay here and we saw many early in the morning. I'd stay at Parry Lodge again if we make our way out here in the future. read more

We were going to stay in Zion and opted for Kanab instead. I am so glad that we did. The price is reasonable, the room was spacious and clean, and everyone was so nice. The check out time was 12:00 noon so I was able to spend a relaxing morning by the pool after a nice buffet breakfast. It's such a peaceful place in a wonderful town that is the back door of Zion, but has recreational activities of its own. I am coming back! read more

Off to a rough start here, coming in from a murderous day of driving to find out that our room was nowhere near ready. The owner comped us with breakfasts for the rest of our stay so that helped. The hotel is jam packed with memorabilia from their days of hosting Hollywood crews. Our kitchenette was comfortable but could use some touching up. Rooms are named after stars who stayed there. Pet friendly, clean and in the center of town. There are even EV charging stations just across the street. Taylor was there to check us in. He was informative and cheerful, setting the tone for our single night stay. Our room had 2 queen beds and was extremely large, with more than enough room for two people to move around. In addition to the sink in the bathroom, there's also one just outside, making it easy for 2 people to get ready in the morning. Breakfast is $10 per person, buffet style and the smells will draw you in. The dining room is large and a lifesize cutout of John Wayne will greet you. The hotel also owns the restaurant across the street and will offer you a 10% discount on your bill with proof of your stay. Nostalgic is the best word to describe this place! read more

Stayed here for a Grandson's Wedding Reception. It's an older place that originally was a Boarding house at the turn of the 19th century. As it evolved they added more cabins & rooms. They have done a great job of keeping things refreshed and it's very clean. Staff are dedicated and very helpful. Our room was well appointed and again very clean. The reception was awesome and the food served by the hotel staff was great! All the rooms are named after old movie stars. Many of them actually staying here in the 40s, 50's and 60's. So many pics on all the walls too. They have a breakfast buffet that is really good. It cost $12 a person, but is so much better than the "Free" breakfast offered elsewhere. Would stay here again when in Kanab. If your into nostalgia this is your place. Would recommend for large groups or families. read more

Pool is perfect, rooms are basic and perfect for a stay in a place where your time will be spent outdoors. The staff is awesome... from the front desk to housekeeping. When I was looking for hotel for a group event, I requested hotels that offered free breakfast. Perry Lodge was listed as one of these. We were later to find out that breakfast was not included instead it was offered at a discount for folks staying there. The hotel could use some renovations, the desk in my room was chipped and the blanket had stains on it. We also had issues with checking in and out. On the plus side it was quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. Also, the breakfast that we paid for was very good. read more

The Dining Room is incredible! I've not stayed at the hotel as I am a local, so this review is only for the restaurant. This is some of the best food I have ever had in town. Portions were generous, but quality was not skimped on either. Their meats are sourced locally, and their flavors are five star restaurant quality. On top of that, their prices were reasonable, plus locals discount! I had the cider brined pork chop with pumpkin and squash risotto and my husband had the New York strip with espresso and white cheddar grits. We started with the bison carpaccio. Everything was SCRUMPTIOUS! The chef is an artist. ‍ My only feedback is I would love to see them improve on the ambiance and decor in the dining room. Super underwhelmed. I guess it was clean, the furnishings were shoddy and old and our rooms were dark making it difficult to "appreciate" anything else. I don't need fancy but this was about as far from that as it could get. The property was clean. The people were nice enough if not very understaffed. We paid the $8 each for the "buffet breakfast". It wasn't bad however an hour before service was over almost all things including utensils were out. They had trouble keeping up with demand. You get what you pay for and possibly a lot less. We stayed at Parry Lodge for 5 nights while visiting Bryce Canyon and Zion and we would recommend. The rooms are a bit outdated but the beds are very comfortable, lots of pillows, the bathroom is modest, and the lodge has some old school charm. At first we were staying in a room (which we later found out was a pet friendly room) that had a weird smell and very squeaky beds. After requesting another room due to the scent the folks at the front desk quickly found us another room that was great. We ate breakfast at the lodge multiple days, it's buffet style and has everything you'd need to get your fill before heading off to the parks. If you do stay at Parry Lodge I'd recommend bringing some ear plugs as the walls are thin so you will hear your neighbors. read more

Stopped in Parry Lodge for breakfast! They have a breakfast buffet. But let me tell you this hotel is amazing. It is historic and it is beautiful as well. It is great to see all the famous people from the past to have visited this hotel and stayed there as well. The hotel is well-kept and in beautiful pristine condition. We stayed at this place for two nights. Very old place that was a spot for Hollywood stars staying while filming nearby. We a had a specific reservation because of health related issues. We made the reservation with a one night deposit two months in advance. Needless to say, when we arrived they had rented the room out to someone else. They blamed it on " our system has been having problems. We remembered reading other reviews of the same thing. We were put into another room. The place was clean, and the collections of movie star memorabilia were interesting. It was also very quiet in the evenings. They also had a fairly good $8.00 morning breakfast buffet. The buffet had scrambled eggs, thick delicious French toast, bacon, sausage links, potato crisp, biscuits,oatmeal, sausage gravy. They also had milk, coffee, tea, juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese, cereals. Not bad! Best thing we noticed was how friendly all the staff were. Worst thing for us both was the bed pillows were way to firm.(Bring your own). We would stay again based mostly on the friendly staff. read more

Change Kirby bag Mission Barbecue in Fort Wayne Sloe's Barbecue In Detroit Chef Henry, formerly of Zion Mountain Ranch, has just begun providing lunch and dinner service at the Parry Lodge.  We had the opportunity for a light dinner of soup and a shared appetizer, and found the food remarkable.  The charred onion and potato soup was outstanding, and the only blemish on the Bison Carpaccio was that, in my opinion, the vinaigrette was a little too strong, overpowering the bison. Service was good, and the server (Jocelyn) knowledgeable. Outstanding, actually, for the first full dinner service. No issues whatsoever. All in all,a fantastic start to what I hope is a long and successful run. read more

We enjoyed our stay in Kanab. Really liked the historic parry lodge. Breakfast was good and location was great. I know it's a very old motel so I don't expect everything perfect but the water in the shower was hard to control. The water control lever really should be replaced before someone gets scalded and the lamp near the bed had a broken switch and was unusable. Keeping up on maintenance is important, I'd hate to see a cute historic place like this go down hill . read more

Outstanding. Overlooked. Have eaten here several times & very impressed. Linen tablecloths at night but exquisite entrees priced well in line with the other upper end restaurants in Kanab. We ate it very large for dinner last night. We were there because of the previous three star reviews to me. It's really good place to eat I had steak and my wife had pork chop with raspberry habanero sauce and then I had an apple tart with homemade ice cream for dessert. The chef was really really good. My wife and I were very happy with our stay at the Parry Lodge after a long day of hiking and exploration at Zion National Park. The lodge is very unique and steeped in a lot of history with many famous actors having stayed there over time while shooting movies. The bed was very comfortable for the two of us and we slept very soundly. It was nice to be in a hotel room that isn't the cookie cutter dormitory for a change. The bathroom was nice and clean, though the shower curtain was weirdly pourous... you totally would get wet if you were in the bathroom while someone was showering. Complimentary breakfast the next morning had a nice variety and was very tasty, perfect start to the day. Should i be visiting the area again, I'd absolutely stay here. read more

This lodge is historically famous as a western movie set and a place for the stars to stay. The outside of the property is well maintained but the rooms are a hodgepodge of eras. When repairs were needed it would have been wiser to stay historically accurate. The window sills would be the exception, it is possible they have not been sanded and painted since the 1950's based on the peeling paint and dirt, as well as the condition of the screens. The furniture is sparse and looks like it was purchased in thrift stores, scratched and worn out. The walls in our room had paint scratched or chipped off. Smelled old, which makes sense and yet doesn't. At over $100 and fully booked the rooms should present better. Won't be staying again. read more

Really, really like this place. This was where the movie stars would stay back in the golden age when they were filming Westerns in the area. The rooms are named after the starts that stayed there and the lobby filled with their autographed pictures. Kind of a cool kitsch to it, but sometimes they rest all of their laurels on that kind of thing. Was pleasantly surprised to see the rooms were nicely remodeled and clean, which means they weren't getting lazy on their fame and put some effort into this place. I started noticing more staff walking around than I think I've ever seen at a motel, so yeah, they're definitely working to keep up the same customer service level of quality that made John Wayne and Dean Martin chose to stay there in the 50's. There's a big barn in the middle that's turned into a theater. Free to just walk in and they were playing an old Western movie. Looked like it might have been fun, as I'd assume it stared someone that stayed there during the filming. But sadly, they don't advertise that perk very well, so I had no idea to plan it on my schedule for the evening and I didn't want to watch a movie from the middle. read more

4.5 stars. This was a jewel of a find during our trips to Grand Canyon, Zion, and Bryce Canyon National Parks. It is an older motel but is fairly clean. We were able to get a fantastic rate on adjoining rooms with 2 queen beds and a bathroom in each room for our family of 5. There were little things like a somewhat gritty-feeling laminate floor, the bathroom door that stuck so bad we worried about getting out and the light bulb that was dangling from the lamp that did not work, but I could tell that back in the day, it was pretty luxurious. I felt like I was staying at grandma's house as a little kid...the soft feel of the sheets and the well-made antique furniture. My son enjoyed watching "The Apple Dumpling Gang," which was filmed near Kanab in the theater barn on the property. I watched it as a kid, so I was nostalgic. The best thing about the stay was the delicious, complimentary restaurant buffet with French toast, sausage, abundant fresh fruit, biscuits/gravy and more (usually $16.00/person) served in the hotel restaurant. I would come back to this motel just for the breakfast. If you are interested in history, Hollywood, and Western movies, the motel and town of Kanab is place you shouldn't miss. It is about an hour drive from the front gate of Zion and an 1.5 hours from Bryce, so you could stay here for several days during your National Park trip. read more

It is a family tradition to stay here when we pass through Kanab. It is fun to see the rooms where the movie stars use to stay when they were filming the old Western Movies. Lots of history about how the Film Industry began in Utah is all around you. read more

Really enjoyed our stay at Parry Lodge while in the area to hike The Wave. The staff was exceptional from our check in on Sunday afternoon 2/25 to checking out a couple of days later. Each staff member we encountered was cheerful, helpful and a great representative of the business. We ate breakfast there both mornings and everyone was happy with their food ,and again, the service was exceptional. If your looking for a place to stay in Kanab don't look any further. This place is Family and pet friendly. It's also locally own and not a big chain. We forgot one of our bags and they called us before we got any further on our trip and offer to meet us halfway.. I would recommend to anyone to stay here they also offer breakfast with your stay and it's not a normal breakfast they give you options to make sure you get full. My wife and I set out on another one of our adventures, this time it brought us to Kanab Utah. Being Thanksgiving and me not thinking ahead as usual pulled into town and found out that because of the holiday all restaurants were closed. As we drove into town we passed Parry Lodge with a sign that said Thanksgiving Dinner Buffet. What luck!!! We walked in and found out it was by reservation only. Well the ladies working the desk (Stephanie and MaryLee) did some checking and managed to find a space for us.
