Incredible steakhouse in the Buenos Aires area that is very popular with locals. Would recommend coming here early right when they open, otherwise they're full by 8:30pm. The meal starts off with some bread and empanadas. We shared the ribeye and steak and it was a perfect amount for us. We also got the house wine (Malbec) which was around $7 USD. Ribeye was cooked perfectly! Service was fine and their English is sufficient.

This place aims to give you good beef of your choice, pictures included of the cows anatomy so you know what you're getting at honest prices. The meats are cooked right in front of the open grill and it smells amazing. You get complementary meat empanadas and bread. Remember that when you pick your cut since you're already half full. We started with salad then the Asado cut (one order only to share) which is beef ribs. Excellent if you're into fatty meat- almost well done(prefer steak medium at most). He didn't ask how we wanted it so I didn't say anything. We also got a small bottle of red Malbec and water(not free). The whole lunch bill came out to 55 thousand pesos which at current rates is about $41. Are you kidding me! We almost didn't finish the steak! It's four stars because the steak didn't blew me away. It needed more seasoning for my taste.

Argentians love their beef and erect countless shrines dedicated to its consumption. The parilla or grill restaurant, as well as the various forms of all you can eat buffets are hallmarks of this culture. What is remarkable about a place like Peña is not the beef alone, which is cooked perfectly, but all the other items that have received just as much care and attention. Their eggplant vinaigrette salad is exceptional, featuring dense and satisfyingly chewy flesh of small eggplants. The seasonings, including whole coriander seeds is exceptional. The chicken breast is a small enlightenment for how it takes a simple and basically flavorless part of the bird and transforms it into a special occasion meal because of how moist, tender, and flavorful it is. The tail of rump steak, not a cut found in the US, had the lean pure beef flavor of a sirloin but narrowed on one end with rich browned fat. Service was great, and the upstairs ambience was pleasant but unfussy, featuring blood red walls and a large selection of Argentinian wines.

Our favorite parilla in Buenos Aires!! We visited two times on our weeklong trip. Service was friendly, food was authentic, and the menu was extensive. They take both card and cash but any tip needs to he cash. Would skip the pasta but all the beef cuts we tried were delicious, as well as the grilled chicken and the empanadas that come with the table service. Pricing was very reasonable. Malbec is also a must order, and if you like cheese the provoleta is worth the try (but quite salty!)

Came here on the recommendation of our tour guide and it did not disappoint. I came here on Saturday afternoon, it was busy but I was able to snag a table. It's a small, no frill restaurant which seems to be popular with locals and tourists. The complimentary empanada they bought initially was my favorite of the entire trip. I ordered a ribeye steak and salad. It was tasty and juicy, I liked the sauce it came with. They accept both cash and cards.

One of the best tiramisus I have ever had! There is plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs, so even if you see a line, seats will clear up. They give complimentary empanadas and bread/breadsticks - I actually think it's $1.75 but everyone gets it at their table. The aglio e olio took the longest to come out, which was surprising to me since pasta doesn't take that long to cook. The pasta also lacked seasoning and salt. I think this is one of those places where the menu is super cheap for plenty of meat. Note: you cannot tip on a card, if you want to tip your server you'll need cash!

Parrilla Peña is often listed as one of the top-rated grills in Buenos Aires, but for me, it fell short -- especially when compared to many steakhouses back in the U.S. The highlight here is the bife de chorizo, which is their best cut. That said, the texture reminded me of a London broil -- a bit on the drier side with minimal marbling or fat. It lacked the richness and juiciness you'd expect from a truly standout steak, and at around $30 USD, it wasn't exactly a bargain by local standards. The space inside was also rather cramped, and the overall dining experience felt a bit tight and rushed. Honestly, for the price and atmosphere, you're better off having dinner at the nearby Intercontinental Hotel and enjoying their beef ribeye in a more comfortable setting. While I respect the legacy and reputation of Parrilla Peña, it didn't quite live up to the hype. A decent experience, but not one I'd seek out again. I think the biggest thing they can address is the price to value. It is just not anything memorable, worth traveling from the United States. Also hoping to get some likes or follows on this review -- I'm working on regaining my Yelp Elite status by focusing on more global and rare reviews you don't often see elsewhere. I may also begin to experiment with Google reviews.

This was a hole in the wall for sure, one of my friends took us there and as soon as we arrived, I saw a line of people waiting outside and I just knew it had to be good, if I would have walked passed this place, I wouldn't have noticed it because the outside looks very simple and uneventful, I guess the, "don't judge a book by its cover" can be applied to this local spot. The waiting time wasn't terrible, specially considering that we were a group of 7. The place didn't take reservations so we took a chance and went for it. They had plenty of seating, both on the main floor and at the second floor as well. It was more spacious than it looked, the place was a little outdated but it was clean and the tables were nicely set up. Once we seated and started looking at menus, they were quick to start us off with water and empanadas on the house while we decided what to eat. They had a large variety of meats (so if you are vegan, this place probably wouldn't be for you) . They had salads and desserts, so vegetarian friendly somewhat. Being in Argentina, having fantastic choices of wines is a no brainer, as for me, well, a Fanta was just fine lol. We all ordered all kinds of meats, mostly steak, diff side orders too, we had a feast, everything was very tasty, and the portions were generous too, so you can easily share one dish and split it between 2 people. Our waiters were delightful and lively, they were great at recommending wines and such. The price was moderate, you can deff eat like a king/queen for a fair price here. We had so much food, we had to take some to go. We ordered a tiramisu and a flan for dessert to share, both were really good. This is one hidden gem, that I'm sure glad I found!

We had lunch here and enjoyed it. I had mollejas, which I enjoyed, but were probably too much for one person. The empanadas were good. I like the sauces they provide. Unfortunately, service is slow and it took forever to get the bill and pay for it.

Parrilla Pena is a local grill behind the theater district of Buenos Aires. Always popular wiht the locals, I am so glad that I found it as well. The grill is downstairs right by the entrance, your mouth waters from the scents and sounds as you walk in. Seating is at cloth covered tables that fill every corner of the 2 dining rooms. Great staff hustles around and even though many don't speak english, the menu has translations. Everything I have had is delicious (lomo/tenderloin is my favorite) and the quantities are belly busting. The staff has always said "one order feeds 2" You don't have to go to a steakhouse to get a great steak in Argentina, Pena beats them hands down.

Visited 6 years ago and the food and service are still excellent. Tenderloin and ribeye were both perfect. Servings are more than ample. "Normal salad" is enough for 2 people, possibly 3. A line was formed outside, so glad we were there when the door opened. Our server was attentive without hovering, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere is casual, yet sets a tone of expectation. We totally recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a quality meal at reasonable prices. Oh, oh...the desserts are delicious, too! It's a place where families gather, friends find one another, and the back table seems reserved for neighbormen to talk and dine together.

Parrilla Pena was my last meal in Buenos Aires before flying home. I wanted an Asado that catered to locals more than to tourists, it did not disappoint. We did not place reservations in advance and were asked to seat upstairs. I was bummed to miss out on seeing the asado action but the food and wine made up for it. I appreciated the complimentary empanadas to start off our meal. We then ordered grilled peppers, fries, and two types of steak cuts. The steak was well seasoned and juicy! We ended our meal with flan. And although we complained about how much dulce de leche is added, we ended up eating it all. Our waiter was friendly and helpful! Great wine offerings but I'd store it in a different way. :P Would definitely revisit!

While this place has been here since 1962, the first time I came was in 1993. I love it here because it is a classic, old-school restaurant, between the decor, the waiters and the grill as you walk in. The service has gone downhill a bit over the last couple of years, but I find that if you connect with your waiter when you finally get him to your table, he will check on you more often. They have a great wine list as well. The steaks are some of the best I have had, and I love that they bring your steak on a steel plate over a charcoal fire- do not let them take the grill- I love putting the fat on there to render away and then ladle it over my steak- so much better than butter! The fries are to die for, as is the Morcilla- so good and creamy- if you like that! I am usually too full for dessert, but I recently had their ice cream- so good and creamy!

This was my first time here but my mom has dined here before when she visited. Our server was a nice gentleman and older. I did a house red and the server gave me a generous pour; it was deliciously smooth. My mom ordered grilled chicken (it was a huge portion) and a side salad (also pretty large portion). I ordered beef and chicken empanadas. I preferred the beef over the chicken but both were really tasty. The pastry was nice a flaky and the filling inside moist and flavorful. We showed up at 7 and by 8:30 the place was packed and people were going to the upstairs dinign area. This is a beautiful restaurant with an incredible aura about it. Easy to tell who the regulars were as they were called by first name. We tried to chnage up our appitizers from the first night. We came here so my husband could try the steak so tender, it's ceremoniously cut with a spoon. I'm not a big time meat eater, so I had the provolneta (too salty and charred) and some pasta with tomato sauce. The food was okay, but the prices were ridiculous. We skipped desert, partly because the prices on the deserts were more than some of the entrees. A big red flag. One of the things we did not appreciate was this awkward moment when it seemed like they were trying to give us alcohol we didn't order. Neither my husband or I drinks, so we had to explain that we didn't want it. The spaghetti I ordered was bare bones pasta with tomato sauce. I was really expecting a more elevated dish for the prices we paid. My husband said his steak was good, but definitely not worth the hype this place has. While the soccer memorabilia was fun to look at, the weirdness of the meal and this constant feeling that we were going to be charged for things we didn't want or the surreptitious way the desert was more expensive than some entrees really kept us on our guard. I would steer clear of this place. We had many enjoyable and wonderful dining experiences in BA and this one was a total outlier. Not worth the stress for sure.
