A fantastic experience. When the portions came out, I thought they were a bit small, but they keep on COMING. by the end, we were so full but just enough room for dessert. Loved the welcome drink and the service. The ambiance is great, you sit around a large grill in the center and have ample space to dine. It's like a Michelin experience without all the fluff of snooty places. Choosing our own knife before the meat course was a nice touch. Would recommend to any tourists visiting BA!

Fogon Asado was rated one of the best restaurants in all of Buenos Aires, and even the 35th best steakhouse in the world. I booked the lunch tasting, which was a 9 course tasting menu of various Argentine dishes and meats. The ambiance is really cool because you get to be seated around the fogon, and watch the chef grill the meats in front of you. The experience was quite interesting, as you get to sample various different types of Argentine dishes and not just the meats as you would get at a normal steakhouse. They grilled up different vegetables, made different purées, etc., that really gave a visitor a good sense of Argentine food. I will say that while all the courses were quite solid, I wasn't really blown away by that many of the dishes. I think my bar was higher for this spot than other places I tried in BA because the price point is higher (even compared to Don Julio, etc.). I'm glad I gave it a try, but if I were to come back and could only try one spot in Buenos Aires, I might go back to a more traditional steakhouse. That might just be personal preference though.

You must book and pay for the tasting or chef experience on their website. They had one lunch and one dinner seating each day. I jointed a Monday tasting lunch which consisted of 9 courses. I booked that day as there were no other lunch spots for the rest of my stay. About 10 minutes before my appointment one of the staff came out to escort me in. The foyer inside was rustic and here we were served an aperitif or lemonade until they opened the doors to the kitchen. It was only bar seating facing the grill. The seven of us met the chef and she gave a thorough explanation of each cut of meat being served and how each would be prepared. Wine was the only option offered after we sat down beside water. The agua con gas came in its own spritzer bottle and a couple people pressed the lever too hard spraying it all over the table! There was only two staff on site. The did the main food prep with joint plating while our greeter handled all the wine pouring, explaining each of the dishes and clearing of the dishes. We even were presented with a case of steak knives to self select our own to use. Commendable job for both. The asado (short rib) was my overall favorite meat with its melt in the mouth texture and such a flavorful taste. I wanted so much more. The most generous selection was the ribeye as the extra steaks were also cut up and presented to us for seconds! Meat overload. My least favorite dishes were the morcilla and molleja since I ate both for the first time and just not a fan of blood sausage or sweetbreads. The dulce de leche pancake was a sweet wrap up with a little flair. Since we all prepaid, we had the option of tipping/paying for wine via credit card, ARS or USD. I enjoyed this 2+hour dining experience and glad I went for lunch so I had time to walk off the calories!

It's weird to say, but on a trip centered around going to Antarctica this was one of the biggest highlights. This meal was amazing. The chef walked us through each course explaining the food, the preparation method, and the history behind the dish. Each course was fantastic. I will go here every future visit to Buenos Aires.

If there was a meal that defined our entire honeymoon, our evening at Fogón Asado would be it. This wasn't just dinner, it was a personal and immersive experience into Argentinian culinary tradition, led by a passionate chef-owner and a team that treats every guest like family. To this day, this remains one of our favorite dining experiences EVER! From the moment we walked in and were served our welcome drinks, the energy was warm, inviting, and intimate. The 9-course experience ($85 per person) was nothing short of spectacular, each dish thoughtfully prepared and presented as part of a narrative that celebrated Argentina's rich asado culture. Every course offered was delicious: Appetizers & Entrées: - Provoleta Cheese with grilled fruit and a delicate Torrontés reduction -Mollejas (sweetbreads) paired with roasted tomatoes and ginger - El Matrimonio de Chorizo y Morcilla - Slow-braised Asado with miso - Ribeye with mashed boniatos Dessert: - Crepes with dulce de leche To elevate the experience, I opted for a wine pairing. Torn between the two pairing options, I took the staff's recommendation to go with the slightly more diverse selection, which was the $38 pairing featuring four great selections from Catena Zapata. Not only were the pours generous, but for those who had the pairing (myself included), our glasses were topped off with our favorite wines throughout the night. One of the many highlights? The staff surprised us with a complimentary champagne toast to celebrate our honeymoon! This was an unexpected but deeply appreciated touch that made the evening feel even more special. And just when we thought the night couldn't get any better, diners were offered extra portions from the grill. At Fogón Asado, it is clear that they truly value the family/communal aspect of the Asado experience. We were incredibly lucky to snag a last-minute reservation the night before, and honestly, I can't imagine a more perfect way to experience Asado in Buenos Aires. Fogón Asado is not just a restaurant--it's a celebration of Argentina's culinary history with some creative twists. If you ever find yourself in Buenos Aires, book this experience. Immediately! THIS is an experience that is worth going "out of the way" for. The 12 course menu paired with the premium wine pairing must be out of this world! TIP: Please bring cash to tip the servers! Tip is not included on the bill, nor can it be taken from your credit card.

Great vibe, woody, campfire, low light, trendy music, stylish staff Roasted Eggplant with ricotta cheese: way too much lemon juice. Too sour for my taste. Eggplant is really creamy though Cheese grilled fruit: good idea of matching fruit and cheese. A bit too salty for me. Strong smell. Has a meat texture Molleja: pancrea and heart? I like the meat part. Not a huge fan with the sauce with it Morcilla: I like the chorizo, good texture. Blood sausage was with sweet sour sauce which I don't really think is a good match Braised asado: really tender meat! Great flavor, see salt is a bit too much saltiness. Would recommend remove some salt crystal Pork flank steak: unfortunately, I got the jerky skin part which was super difficult to cut. I thought it's my knife's terrible( they specifically try to sell this as a special choice), but the other people's meat were much thicker and easy to cut. Just unlucky. You eat what you get. Smoked Ribeye cap: fancy way of cooking. They burn pine cone and smoked the meat which is super tender and right amount of flavor. Also interesting way using cauliflower purée Ribeye: good chunk of meat. My favorite part is actually the mashed sweet potato purée. They'll also give you the bone if you want. Extra meat. Great steak as well Pancake with Dulce de leche: fancy presenting method as well. Hot iron caramalized the sugar on top of the crepe. Mesmerizing smoke and self-serving berries and whipped cream. Too bad I was already too full Coffee/tea: not sugar or cream served. Lots of selection for tea bags Pretty full after the 2 hours long meal.

We enjoyed our meal so much during our first visit in December 2023 that we returned on our next trip to Buenos Aires. We prefer this location because it feels more intimate, but the menu is the same at both spots. We went with the Tasting Menu, and believe me, you'll leave feeling completely stuffed. We love seeing the meats before they're cooked and hearing the chefs explain the dishes. The menu includes a complimentary cocktail, and you can choose to upgrade to a wine pairing on the spot. The staff is friendly, and the environment is cheerful! We always make new friends here.

We came for dinner on a Thursday night, and we were able to be seated immediately. The tasting menu took a few hours, and it was such a unique experience to sit in front of the fire and watch the staff cook/put final touches on our meal. The courses were a play on traditional Argentine dishes, which gave us an opportunity to understand some of the cultural mainstays while still being inventive. The wine pairing had some well known brands as well as a few smaller producers, and every wine slapped. My husband and I and other guests around the fire were able to get to know each other between courses, which only added to the experience. We paid a little extra for a knife as a souvenir, and we got to pick one out at the end of dinner from a huge selection. It was such a special experience and one of the best meals we've had in a while!

We decided to splurge and booked a table here at Fogón. They serve a tasting menu at a modern steak house setting. The entire dinner experience was phenomenal! From the moment you step inside and are welcomed with champagne to the 9 courses that you savor for almost 3 hours and all the extra little touches in between, this was quite a memorable night. For $70/person, you can certainly get an equally great steak at other Buenos Aires restaurants for slightly less but Fogón delivers an experience that is well worth the price. We also enjoyed the wine pairings as much as the food itself and had a great time learning and hearing about Argentina's asado traditions.

Just have to say they this the amazing meal experience I've had in Buenos Aires. This restaurant is by reservation only. It is a 3 hours dinner and 8 course tasting menu plus specials. We arrived at 7:30 and other diners were already in line waiting to get in. The restaurant is located in Palermo. It has a big knife as it's logo. Upon entering, staff showed us our seats. Seats are around the bar with the grill (fogon) in the center. It's predetermined based on when you make your reservation. Best seats are facing where all the cooking is done. I can't do justice on the food served so added the menu photo as reference. They start you with a delicious drink. You have the option or wine pairings with 3 different levels. They will keep pouring whenever your put your glass on the bar so if you drink a lot, we'll worth it. Going back to food, starts off with an eggplant appetizer with ricotta on top. Amazing! Next up is grilled cheese with pear and El matrimonio (sausages). They also offer a couple of surprises. For us, it's sweetbreads and short ribs. Ribs were fall off the bone... chef took it off the bone in front of you before serving! Next up are the main meat courses staring with pork flank. Now to the main entrees... eyebrow or steak cap and Ribeye. Portions was decent that I was getting full after the short ribs. I managed to finish all plus extra slice of ribeye. Ended the night with a crepe dessert. We didn't realized we were there for 3 hours. The chefs was very entertaining and explained the whole cooking process. Highly recommended to anybody who is going to Buenos Aires! We call the head chef 'Altuve' as he looks like Jose Altuve and also came from Venezuela. Price is very reasonable considering the experience.

Great experience. Food was exceptional, cool ambience sitting at bar, service was great and so knowledgeable. Enjoyed all the wine parings Definitely a must go.

I first tried Don Julio 2 and 1/2 years ago, on the way to Argentina. I remember being blown away by the steaks and even more so by their famous homemade ice cream. It uses Jersey milk, which I understand makes it fattier and more delicious. All I know is, upon my first return to Buenos Aires, I immediately sought out this restaurant and tried to get a walk in. No such luck, so I made a reservation for the following week. Reservations can be made online in English or Spanish. For such a popular place, you can still get reservations a week out. Reservations are for the outside, which include blankets at each seat and heat lamps. They can and often do reach out to you via WhatsApp before your reservation to see if you would like an inside table instead, at different times. Show up on time, and they offer you a complimentary class of moet chandon champagne and mini empanadas while you wait for your table to be ready. The kitchen will send you breads and a variety of little things to taste. We had amazing asparagus, cured meats, and a flaky pastry, in addition to a delightful bread. There was enough for us to say that we would already be content with just that, but of course the meat was coming! We opted for the entrecot, which is like a bone-in ribeye, "a Punto" or a very juicy medium rare. Eat it with the spicier chimichurri sauce and woooooowweee let it melt in your mouth! 1 entrecot was enough for 2-2.5 people. We got 2 for 4 and had some leftovers. We also got the arugula and shaved cheddar salad, which was divine in its simplicity. Grilled mushrooms were also a perfect pairing with the meat. For wine, we had the sommelier choose us a dry Merlot, which was jammy and delightful . For dessert, we had the the dulce de leche (sweet but amazing), vanilla, and egg yolk vanilla ice creams. Everyone said they were the perfect ending to a perfect meal. As we sauntered back to our hotel in the afternoon sunshine, I kept repeating in my head " soy contenta" because boy was I ever. This meal did not disappoint again, and I will be back whenever I can. Worth the hype and worth the wait!!! p.s. that meal cost us each about $100 USD.

Don Julio Parrilla - The Meal That Changed My Mind About Buenos Aires…read moreAfter spending a week in Buenos Aires, my hotel concierge had secured reservations at five of the city's hottest restaurants & trendy spots, Michelin-recognized destinations, and some of Argentina's highest-rated dining experiences. Unfortunately, the first two nights were disappointing. I started wondering if the legendary reputation of Argentine beef was simply an illusion. Perhaps the quality of the meat was exceptional, but the execution wasn't. Then came Don Julio. Our reservation was for 9:30 p.m. at one of the hardest restaurants in the city to book, and within minutes of arriving, every negative thought I'd had about dining in Buenos Aires disappeared. Guests waiting outside were welcomed with complimentary Prosecco and warm empanadas while tables were prepared. We stepped aside to take a few photos and struck up a conversation with a friendly couple from New Jersey. Like us, they admitted they hadn't been blown away by the city's food scene, until Don Julio. We were seated at a cozy table with a clear view of the chefs expertly preparing and carving beautiful cuts of beef. The atmosphere reminded me of Pastis in New York... classic, lively, elegant, yet relaxed, like a charming Parisian bistro. The Wine & Starters We began with a bottle of Balbo red wine, smooth and velvety without heavy tannins. Fresh bread arrived with rock salt, spicy olive tapenade, and a bright pico de gallo that was unforgettable. The menu was refreshingly simple: exceptional ingredients, no unnecessary theatrics. Endive & Shaved Walnut Salad - 30/10 I never expected an endive salad to be memorable, but this one was extraordinary. The leaves were buttery and tender, perfectly dressed, with shaved walnuts adding texture and balance. Midway through the meal, my boyfriend said, "Now this is a dish you can't replicate." I replied, "Challenge accepted." Creamy Mashed Potatoes with Jersey Butter - 10/10 As a self-proclaimed mashed potato connoisseur, I can honestly say these were among the best I've ever tasted silky, buttery, rich, and luxurious without feeling heavy. Grilled Cauliflower - 4/10 Well prepared, lightly charred, and served over a smooth purée, but after the incredible salad, it simply couldn't compete. The Star: Bone-In Ribeye for Two - 100/10 After several disappointing steaks earlier in our trip, we learned that ordering medium-rare in Argentina often resulted in something closer to medium-well. This time, my boyfriend ordered the steak rare with a charred crust, and our waiter understood perfectly. What arrived was one of the greatest steaks I've ever eaten: tender, juicy, perfectly pink, and incredibly flavorful. I've dined at some of the world's most celebrated steakhouses, and this ribeye belongs in that conversation. Halfway through dinner, I leaned over and whispered, "Has our entire trip to Argentina just changed because of this restaurant?" Three of our four dishes were phenomenal. This wasn't just the best meal of our trip--it may have been one of the best meals I've ever had. Dessert - 9/10 Skipping dessert was never an option. We ordered crêpes with dulce de leche, finished with a crisp brûléed top and served with rich Jersey milk ice cream. Our waiter also surprised us with a complimentary serving of dulce de leche cream, one of my favorite bites of the evening. Service - The service at Don Julio deserves a standing ovation. Our waiter was warm, knowledgeable, attentive, and incredibly professional. When I dropped my fork, another appeared instantly. Every time someone left the table, a fresh napkin awaited their return. Wine glasses never sat empty, and the maître d' checked in without ever interrupting the flow of the evening. Every detail was noticed. Nothing was overlooked. It's the kind of hospitality that makes you feel genuinely cared for rather than simply served. Final Thoughts Don Julio completely changed my opinion of Buenos Aires' dining scene. After several disappointing meals, this restaurant reminded me why Argentina has earned its world-famous culinary reputation. Outstanding food. Impeccable service. A warm, energetic atmosphere. An unforgettable experience from beginning to end. If you're planning a trip to Buenos Aires, make your reservation at Don Julio as early as possible. Trust me...it's worth every bit of the hype

Nothing seemed more authentic than the big parrilla (grill) that greets you when you enter or the fact that the place doesn't open for dinner until 8pm. A meal in this clean, somewhat industrial-looking space begins with empanadas and chimichurri arriving automatically at your table thanks to the small "cubierto" (per person cover fee, not a tip, of about $2.50 per person). Given the late dining hour I resisted over-ordering, knowing that I didn't want to go to sleep stuffed to the brim. Argentina makes some of the greatest steaks on the planet…read more And yet, there are times when nothing is better than an Argentine hot dog. I am not talking about the stupid everyday hot dogs which are called panchos. These are just like hot dogs in America. They depend on what kind of goop you put on top. I am talking about Choripan. If you think about how you eat an Argentine steak (with wine, gusto and reverent appreciation) And how you eat Argentine ice cream (squeals of oooooooh!) Choripan is right in the middle. Half Church of Great Amazingness and Half Little Kid Fun. * * * We don't have Choripan in the US. Choripan is derived from the Spanish-Catalonian hot dog tradition rather than the German frankfurters we eat in America. In a Catalonian hot dog house, you have a choice of 8 or 10 or a dozen different kinds of hot dogs ... Meaning 8 or 10 or a dozen different kinds of meat or flavoring right in the sausage itself. One sausage might be made with extra liver. One sausage might be made with lots of ground up mushroom. Usually there is a spicy one with Mexican chiles. Nowadays there is a vegetarian one. The sausages all taste dramatically different from each other. Choripans are larger than a traditional frankfurter but smaller than a knockwurst - more like a fatter version of a footlong. They are served on a small submarine roll. In Spain, you get a free choice of toppings. Most Spanish will only put one or at the most two toppings on their dog, Because they do not want to drown out the taste of the meat. Our hot dogs are boring. We put distraction after distraction after distraction on top to make us forget how lousy the base dog is. * * * Chori is widely considered to serve the best choripan in Buenos Aires. Choripan is all they do. There are ten choices of sausage. They are more rigid than the Spanish on toppings. They have figured out what topping goes best on each sausage - and when you order your hot dog, you get the chef's choice of fixings for each one. Believe the house. They know what they are doing. How are their dogs served the way they want to serve them? ABSOLUTAMENTE MAGNIFICOS !!!!!!!!!!!! * * * Special Bonus Section! Not only does Chori make its own hot dogs ... But it also makes its own ketchup. Once you have had Chori's ketchup, You will never be happy with the Heinz-style American ketchup we eat at home. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Argentines have better tomatoes than we do. But that is not the driving factor. They have put something dark and baritone and powerful into their ketchup. My guess is that they use balsamic vinegar rather than white vinegar as the base. However, I also think they have seriously reconsidered the spice mix and the use of sugar in the ketchup. Whatever, their secret is, you absolutely positively must get french fries with your choripan. And yeah, the fries themselves are nothing special. (I have only had really good french fries in one place in Buenos Aires, El Federal in San Telmo.) But Chori's ketchup on even average fries turns the fries into a dish to remember forever. Long after my hot dog was gone, I was eating each french fry one at a time as slowly as I could. The fries had already gotten cold but I didn't care. The ketchup was that good. * * * I don't think they put nuts in the sausages at Chori. But YOU would be nuts not to go to Chori while you are in Buenos Aires. Hey, there are more ways to have fun than just doing the tango!

Very good sandwiches and variety of choripan. Lots of drink options also. Good space with clean…read morebathrooms and nice decor.
