Parlour 151

I'm trying to book a haircut appointment with Laura but she isn't an option when you try to book an appointment online. Do I have to call it in instead?

Unfortunately Laura is no longer doing hair at Parlour151, but her phone number is still the same and doing hair in a studio, please let me know if you would like her number, thank you, take care!

Is this place open now? Seems their website says it's closed.

We have updated our website of all of the safety regulations upon reopening after the SIP. Please recheck the website as it has been updated, thank you! (:

Are you open for outdoor haircuts as of 8/8/20? I received a reminder for my appointment tomorrow; however, I read that all indoor hair salons have been shut down in San Mateo county. Was this just an auto-send or have you moved services outside?

Unfortunately we are not open outdoor. I do apologize about the reminder text as our system automatically sends. Take care, stay safe (:

How much is a haircut?

Hello- Thank you for inquiring! The cost depends on each individual stylist, but they range from $70-$85.00 hope you come and see us soon!

I usually cut my son's hair but we had grown a mullet and I didn't want to mess it up, especially since my son has really dark, stubborn Asian hair - it'd be easy to find the imperfections. The lady who cut his hair was fast (took probably 20 min total). She knew exactly what kind of cut I wanted (2 block hair cut). And because his hair was so long in the back, she double checked before cutting that I wanted to cut it off (much appreciated!). My son's hair was short on the top so she didn't cit length but did blend it (see pics). The place itself was clean and spacious. The cut itself was $45 without a wash, which is a couple dollars cheaper than other places I was looking up. I'd come here again.

Before the haircut, I clearly explained that I had just gotten my hair cut at another salon two…read moredays earlier and that I wasn't looking for a completely new haircut--I only wanted some adjustments to achieve the style shown in the photos of me before. I specifically asked if the stylist understood the issue and knew what needed to be done, and I was assured that they did. Unfortunately, once the haircut started, there was no communication about how much hair would be removed. The very first cut on the sides was much shorter than I expected, and at that point there was no way to undo it. If the stylist had explained their approach or confirmed the length with me first, I would have had the opportunity to say that it wasn't what I wanted. What disappointed me most wasn't just the final result--it was the lack of communication. When a customer brings reference photos and asks questions beforehand, I expect the stylist to explain the plan and make sure we're aligned before making irreversible changes. I left feeling that my concerns and the reference photos were not really taken into account. I hope the salon can improve communication with customers in the future so others don't have the same experience.

Let me tell you that this place was the MOST I've ever paid for hair coloring and balayage in my life and I've gone to Master hair colorists at luxury salons in the bay area too. Did the prices for hair products increase with Trump too??!? Sheesh. They were nice, talked me through the right shade for the balayage according to my skin tone and then she proceeded to take out a calculator to show me the cost. I was pretty shocked to see the cost, but I already made arrangements to get my hair colored that day so I begrudgingly agreed to proceed. Maybe I should have negotiated or asked if that total included tip? My hair is medium length and layered and the ash blonde/brown came out really nice, but I am still kicking myself for paying this much. I would have expected a nice head massage, complimentary tea or something for paying this much with a balayage, but it was a professional balayage with basic service/experience.

Overcharged and undelivered !!! I came in for the first time…read moreabout a month ago looking to get highlights done. Showed my inspo pictures and made it very clear I wanted cool tone brown, Joanne said that will work and gave me a quote for over $500! I thought that was excessive at first but trusted her word that she could make it happen and I was very excited. They got to work and everything was fine, until they finally washed out the bleach and my roots were glowing yellow while the rest of my hair was orange!! This is something I imagine would happen with $10 bleach from CVS, not with the $500 bleach they charged me for. They ended up putting more bleach on my hair to try and fix the mess, ended up staying in that salon for nearly 6 hours for some highlights. They put toner in my orange mess of hair and told me that it would all be okay. WRONG! When they finally washed the toner out, my hair was still extremely warm and orange with lighter roots! As she was drying my hair I had asked her if this is for real $500 dollars, and she proceeded to tell me how much work they put in to make me "happy" when over half of the time I spent sitting on my ass waiting and waiting for them to fix that mess!! I complained about the fact that my roots were obviously lighter than the rest of my hair, and she offered a free toner for next visit. That was all she was willing to give so I came in yesterday to get it. She told me to come in at 1:30 and I came 5 minutes early just to sit around and wait 45 more minutes to finally be seated in the salon chair! I can tell she was irritated that I actually came to get the free toner she offered, when she finally applied the toner she sat me in the uncomfortable hair washing station chair for so long I started to think they forgot about me! She blowdried my hair super roughly and NOT to my surprise, my hair looked damn near exactly how it did when I came in. Overall, I don't know if it's the products they use or just an unfortunate hairstylist, but this place is an absolute waste of time, money, and expectancy of service. Once again, they had me paying over $500 for my hair to look horrendous! This was frustrating because I'm a teenager treating myself to a new hairstyle for back to school, just for it not to turn out anything like I wanted. I've had so many amazing hair colorists make my hair fantastic and I never ever had to pay this much money! Is this place taking advantage of young girls and their ignorance? I'm literally ginger! This is what I get for trying out a new salon. Sorry not sorry! Is there a way to leave 0 stars?

I stumbled across this great salon while eating in downtown San Mateo. I set foot inside because it reminded me of a London salon where I used to go when I lived there. I was greeted by much aplomb and graciousness, and soon I was getting my hair cut and styled by the great Sevon. She looks like she stepped off the runway, so fashionable and glam. I truly enjoyed her upbeat and friendly banter, and better yet, I really like what Sevon did with my hair, which is real coarse and has too much hair product. Let me just say I do plan to go back, and my review here is to encourage you to give it a go. If you are looking for a stylish look that compliments you, then Sevon is the right fit. This salon consists of a talented bunch, the colorists are experienced, and I learned that Sevon has been in this line of work for over a decade. I highly recommend Sevon for cuts and colors, and I plan to go back again and again and again. This salon is truly just beautiful and inviting. read more

I started seeing Sevon at a different salon, and after moving to the East Bay and having a baby, I figured I'd give some more 'local to me' places a try. None of them felt right. I want some who listens to what I like or need (no frills styling due to said baby). After 2 years of missteps, I found out Sevon was at a new place, and I promptly made an appointment. I love that I can make an appointment online, and as a bonus they are close to my work! But mostly, I love Sevon. She does great work, from cut to color. The prices are reasonable. She listens to what I want, what I want to try, offers suggestions or advice, and doesn't push anything I don't want. I take a little bit to warm up to people, but she is always so easy to talk to without forcing awkward conversations. Overall, Sevon is awesome at what she does and I'll go anywhere she does! read more

Bobby gives me the best cut and color I have had in my life. I decided to grow my hair longer, and he's a master of giving the perfect layered trim without making it look shorter. I now have regular compliments on my hair (a new experience for me). His skill at doing the right balance of highlights and lowlights is amazing. I don't think his prices are high enough for his expertise (and I rarely say this about anyone!). In addition to all this, he is a kind person with a fun, upbeat personality. Also, he is honest...........when I ask him if it's time for more highlights, I can count on him to look at my hair carefully and say "next time" or "lets wait a month" to get the timing right. I haven't been to Parlour 151 yet (because I am a busy mother of two, under age 5, and I work full-time), but I recently walked in, and was welcomed with a vibrant energy. The salon is in a great location right downtown San Mateo. I can't wait to sit down and have my hair cut and colored, by none other than my most favorite stylist EVER, Sevon. She is the best, and I have been going to see her for 12+ years. She knows exactly how to cut and color my hair, and I would NEVER see anyone else. This review is for Sevon who does my hair at this incredible shop run by Tara who is also super amazing. I have been seeing Sevon for over 12 years, and she is truly talented at coloring and cutting hair. It is too bad that Covid keeps having salons open and close, but when they are open I highly recommend you call Sevon. The rates to get a hair color, cut, trim are reasonable; and the salon is absolutely beautiful, inviting, and kept very clean and orderly for peace of mind. Sevon is amazing and so nice as well! She was able to understand what I wanted from my hair cut even though I wasn't really sure what I really wanted at the time! Yet with just vague details and info about my hair and what I wanted from it, she was able to give me the perfect cut that I couldn't be happier with!
