Spoiler alert: this review is all good things and more so be prepared to get psyched. My hair has never had much done to it except one year I went crazy and got highlights. Yeah, that was really it for my hair journey. Fast forward a couple years and I've started dreaming of adding color to my hair yet couldn't really pull the trigger because of some hesitations. Thanks to mutual friends, Nielle's Instagram popped up on my explore page and I was able to get an idea on what's possible. I've looked at other salons prior to choosing to go with Nielle. While I don't doubt there are other places that could've helped me achieve what I wanted, Nielle's salon is different in the sense that she offers an intimate 1:1 with her clients so you're able to develop a relationship with her that goes beyond just work. She takes time to listen, understand, and offers her suggestions to you without you having to feel pushed or ignored. I came in with pitch black hair and she was honest with me that the bleaching could take more than a session. LUCKILY, my hair was a virgin and took to bleaching quite easily so Nielle was able to achieve my beauty in a 9 hour session. (Like wow, thank you for your patience and hard work, Nielle, you are a magician!) My hair and I are so grateful Nielle exist in this world and within reach. She's amazing in what she does and you will not leave her chair unhappy. Come through if you're craving for some magic in your life.
I've been meaning to find a local hairdresser. Flying to the OC to get my hair done hasn't been the most practical solution the past few year. I think I even went a whole year between appointments...whoops. After admiring Danielle's work on Instagram, I booked an appointment for a balayage and cut. Danielle asked me for a current photo of my hair in addition to photo inspiration prior to the appointment. The Ash brown color I wanted would be hard to achieve without bleach, but Danielle was understanding that I didn't want to damage my hair further. I ended up loving the result, even without bleach! Total time for color, cut, and style was just under 4 hours. I appreciated that Danielle was super thorough with the balayage, even with my thick hair. The blending is fabulous!

Let me start off by saying, that I've had only 3 people touch my hair, ever, before Daniele / Nielle took some shears to my lion's mane. At the age of 2 months, I received a haircut from a nice lady in San Francisco. She remained the only person to cut my hair for over 15 years. By the time I was about to turn 18, she retired. Onward began my search for a new hairstylist. I tried out Rainbow Salon in Daly City, hoping their good standing and reviews would do my hair justice and make me feel good -all at the same time. I was once capable of sitting on my hair and styling it any way that I wanted, which was exactly how I liked my hair, mermaid style. Then some crazy Asian man decided not to listen to me and chopped my hair off into an A-line Bob cut. TRUST ISSUES WITH HAIRSTYLISTS BEGAN RIGHT HERE. After it grew out some, he said he would fix it. He claimed my hair was dead, it wasn't. I ended up trying out the hairstylist my mom went to, the replacement she found for herself -for our hair lady. I let her cut my hair twice and was never satisfied. She would either cut it too short or I'd notice that I still had a plethora of split ends, the next day. About a year later, my hair was.... messed up, to say it nicely. I'd let it grow up, but I stopped paying attention to it. I kept it up in a bun, every single day. My hair needed to be revived and I was really about to give up. I made an appointment to see Nielle on a Wednesday morning. I asked for bangs, a trim and a scalp treatment. I have got to say, this wonderful hairstylist. DID. ME. GOOD. My hair has never felt so light and healthy. My scalp has never felt better and my bangs, dare I say... Bangin! Not only does she have the hands of a masseuse -it was the biggest struggle to not fall asleep on the shampoo sink- but she literally will not let you off of her chair until you are more than satisfied with your cut and color. I have never felt so pretty with such healthy hair after a cut. EVER. And I don't even care that I live in SF and this place is in so far from me -well over an hour. That's a distance. But her work is that good. Oh and just a heads up - the photo attached is actually after a hair mask she did, a wash and cut. MAGIC HANDS OVER HERE!!
Thank you Nielle for making my hair-dreams come true. I came across Nielle's instagram account and browsed for a few inspirations prior to booking an appointment. It was only later until I found out that one of my friends went to her as well! The prices were the best that I found and reasonable, plus the location is A+. I went to Nielle for a balayage session and I was just in complete awe at the end. I kept screaming in my head, "This was what I've always wanted!". Nielle is sweet and kindhearted. From the moment we met, it felt like we've been friends for years. I felt comfortable in entrusting her with making the best decisions for my hair. Her balayage techniques were like a work of art with attention to even the smallest details. The studio is gorgeous and I love the vibe! Always look forward to seeing Nielle.
Writing this review as I've learned more about the service industry, specifically with hair salons. I first saw Nielle when I was a junior in high school and wanted to get my hair done to an ashy grey balayage. At this time (2016) not many salons were offering this service and/or they were not familiar with working with Asian hair. Knowing what I know now, I feel like Nielle completely took advantage of me since I was so young and didn't know better. What originally was supposed to be a $300-350 "ashy grey balayage" that was also guaranteed to only be 2 sessions, ended up being YEARS of hair damage, waste of my time, waste of money, and emotional trauma. Before I had gone to her, I had black virgin hair. My hair is naturally fine, but she had felt comfortable working with my hair and at the time I was confident in her work for Asian hair since she's Asian as well. On the first day (May 30, 2016) my hair was processed in bleach and when I had left, despite being nowhere near what I had asked for, she assured me that we just had to get light enough for what was supposed to my second and last session. I left and tipped her for the first half. I was still extremely optimistic since she seemed to confident in her work, and came back about a week later (June 8, 2016). Nielle processed my hair even further and brought me to a platinum blonde - even further away from what I had asked for and over processed my hair even more, to the point where it was extremely dry and brittle, breaking off at the ends everything it was brushed. In an effort to fix the mess, she applied a Guy Tang metallic grey dye on top. My hair was so processed at this point that my hair became a forest green. I requested to have it lifted off since it was, again, NOWHERE near the ashy balayage I had asked for. She applied a blue toner on top and when I asked her if that would turn my hair blue, she confidently said it wouldn't. She was wrong, and my hair was a midnight blue (almost black). At this point my hair was extremely fried and she told me to give it a few days for my hair to rest, at which I regrettably paid and tipped again. Nielle told me that during this time, I should wash my hair generously with purple shampoo and if I still didn't get the results I wanted, to come back to her for her to fix. Almost 2 weeks after (June 20, 2016), I returned to the salon since the blue didn't wash out, and was extremely patchy, with areas that had bleach unevenly applied revert to a green. This THIRD time, she applied EVEN more bleach to take out the harsh color but it became even more discolored. Nielle applied a red toner to combat the blue, and my hair turned into pink. After this, I decided to not return to her and decided to seek a Master Stylist to fix my hair. In between the two stylists, I gave my hair about two months to rest. During these two months, the pink had washed out and it became extremely apparent how patchy and poorly done my hair was. Nielle didn't blend the bleach, leaving my hair with a very prominent line between my dark roots and processed hair. In total, I spent almost $400 with Nielle + additional $500 for the other colorist to fix her mess. If I had gone to the colorist to begin with, it would have cost me half of what I had paid for.. My experience with Nielle lasted almost an entire month and despite her attempts to "fix it", she failed to take accountability and never offered to even give me a partial refund. It took over 2+ years in addition to a BIG CHOP for my hair to recover. As someone who was working a minimum wage job while in high-school, $400 was A LOT of money to spend on my hair. Nielle took advantage of and basically scammed me. While I understand my experience with her was a few years back, I still regret going to her and I do believe this review is worth sharing.
Thank you Nielle for working your magic, I love how my hair turned out! I was referred to Nielle by a friend of mine when I first moved back to San Francisco. My hair had seriously gone through so much prior to meeting Nielle and to be honest- I was so embarrassed how dead and frizzy it was, but she was SO patient with me and used all her best products to nourish and bring my hair back to life. Her studio is bright, clean and welcoming. She always made sure I was comfortable and I am a returning client and friend now. So grateful to have met her because every girl needs a hairstylist and I'm fortunate to have found mine!
I love Danielle so much! You know the saying, 'New hair, new me!'? I was looking to totally REVAMP my entire hair after a few major negative life events. I randomly came across Danielle's IG page one day and thought her work was beautiful! I messaged her to set an appointment and she instantly replied back. I showed her a few pictures of my "hair inspiration" and within mere hours at our first appointment, she had over-exceeded my expectations! After each appointment we've had, the colors of my hair have faded beautifully over time! It's not every day you meet someone you instantly click with but we hit it off right when we met! Since our initial appointment, she has become not only my go-to gal for my hair - she's someone I'm happy & proud to be able to call my friend! :)
This was my first time getting my hair done and I had the best experience with Nielle. From booking an appointment to sitting in the chair, she was easy to communicate with and made me feel comfortable. It was a long process because of how much hair I have but I'm so glad she was careful and gentle with the entire process. From putting foil in my hair to washing, drying, and styling it... she did an awesome job! Other cool things: Tidy space, organic lollipops and great music.
I had my first appointment with Nielle (Danielle) today! We had a brief chat over txt msg to plan out our appointment and discuss what I wanted. As a new mom, I told her that I needed something "manageable". However, my personal preference has always been to go "lighter". I mentioned I needed to be done at a certain time so I could pick up my baby. I was completely blow away by her speed and efficiency. I walked out feeling great and loving my hair. Nielle was highly personable, listened to my preferences, and sent me on my way on time! Great job on the cut and color. Very reasonable pricing. The salon space was also very cute and comfortable! I'll definitely be going back.
Amazing and excellent service! I have known Nielle for years, and have always seen her work via Instagram. I've never really invested in my hair, so I took a leap of faith and dyed my hair for the first time. It was WORTH IT! She is very detail oriented and has a creative eye for what would look good on you. She also gives you tips and tricks on how to take care of your hair. As long as you follow her advice, your colors will stay on! I've been treating my hair with extra care, and it looks amazing! I have received many compliments about it:) You are guaranteed a great service and great hair when you walk out of the salon! I promise you! Book an appointment now:)
Nielle is a true master of her craft! She specializes in color and I can't say enough good things about my experiences with her. She listens to what you want and then manifests it into reality! Her salon is super clean, cute and private. Do yourself a favor and pay her a visit .
Admired her work on instagram for years until I finally made an appointment to experience her talent myself. And let me tell you, she gives in so much time and effort into her work, and it really shows! Upon making an appointment, I didn't really have an idea of what I wanted, so I told Nielle to just SURPRISE ME(which was very gutsy of me)but it was time for a change and I knew I can trust her. I had black(dyed) semi wavy/straight hair that was up to my butt. Since I've had bleached hair before that, my hair was really dead and dry which was a major concern for me. She ended up chopping all my dead hair off and gave me a long bob with highlights and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!! Felt AND looked like a whole different person afterwards. I went to Nielle and all I can say is im absolutely in love with how my hair turned out! I came in wanting something subtle, dimensional, and easy to maintain, and she completely nailed it. The whole experience was amazing, and I felt like she really listened to what I wanted!! She's truly the best Ive ever been too and also the sweetest!! I left feeling so confident and happy with the results. Definitely one of my favorite hair transformations I've had. I'll absolutely be coming back in the future read more

Got my hair done by Nielle for the first time and ya'll she KILLED ITI recently moved back to Bay Area and was having trouble finding somebody, so my old stylist recommended I go to Nielle. Booking the appointment was super easy. Nielle responded very quickly and she had me send over a pic of my hair currently looked like and a sample of how I wanted it. During the appointment I changed my mind of the original color I wanted and that was no issue with her. It took some time to finish my hair, but it didn't feel like it was long because she is very personable and really easy going. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to hair and treatment, so Nielle was able to answer some of the questions I had for her. I know it nerve wracking to change up your hair and also find somebody who's good at what they do, but hands down I highly encourage you to go to Nielle for all your hair needs. I LOVE THIS WOMAN! Ive gone to her a handful of times and i am alwaaaays impressed. First time we met, she was so laid back and very easy to talk to. I was pretty reluctant to have things done to my hair since I had a bad experience when I was still living in the philippines. But luckily, Nielle came to the rescue and helped me with my hair process. Walked me through step by step. And she really takes her time. I would love to go back to her but sadly, i do not live in north california. I recommend her 100% for anyone who has virgin hair or for any of your hair needs! Oh btw, before you see her she asks what kind of "hair style" or "hair goals" you want. Which i like! read more

I'm new to the area and needed to find a new hair stylist quickly because I did not have time prior to leaving to get my hair colored. I also wanted to find someone who could get my hair a lot icier than it was before and really bring out the ash/icy white color. I found Danielle online and was obsessed with her instagram. I messaged her and was able to get in a week later. During my visit, I felt like we were friends prior and conversation was never awkward and made the hair appointment go quickly. Not only that, but Danielle took her time and never rushed anything. In the end it turned out amazing and I am so so SO happy with how it came out! I would recommend her to anyone for any hair color because she cares deeply about her clients and her work is amazing. Thank you Danielle! read more

I decided I wanted to get my hair dyed and cut about 2 months ago, and spent a while looking for a new stylist since my old one moved to London. After looking at a lot of stylists' Instagrams, I decided to book with Nielle because her work looked so good! I had my appointment yesterday and she absolutely did not disappoint. Before the appointment, Nielle was very accessible and answered a lot of my questions on Instagram. I also provided her with my hair history, a picture of my hair, and what I was looking for so she could help me pick which option to book on her new website. She took a lot of COVID-19 safety precautions, including asking me to fill out a questionnaire confirming that I didn't have symptoms or do anything risky for two weeks before the appointment. When I got there, she also took my temperature and had me wash my hands thoroughly before letting me enter her studio. Once the session started, Nielle was awesome to talk to and very accommodating. I was even able to work remotely from her studio! Despite the appointment taking a little over four hours (since I was asking for a blue balayage), I felt comfortable the whole time. Nielle paid a lot of attention to detail, and even pointed out to me places on my hair where it had been stained by Overtone that I had used about a month and a half prior (to people reading this, DON'T USE OVERTONE!). She fixed those spots up pretty quickly since the staining wasn't too bad in my case. Additionally, I had told her earlier that I work out frequently and prefer to shower every day. Since this is a high maintenance color, Nielle advised me to only shower every other day, but also generously provided me with some of her dye so that I could mix it with my conditioner at home to help maintain my color between sessions. I was referred to Nielle for a haircut by a friend and I am so glad I went! She responds very quickly via text or yelp msg. Booking with her was extremely easy and convenient. Her studio is located in a plaza with ample parking. Nielle is so personable and listens to your likes/dislikes. I wanted a long layers trim with some side strands that frame my face and a soft V in the back and she did just that! I was in love with the outcome! I also loved that she didn't thin my hair too much like other salons sometimes do. I would highly recommend her! I'm really not one to write reviews. I'm a busy college student, but I am SO happy with my visit with Nielle that I had to take the time to write one! My hair turned out beautiful! I am Filipina & Latina, so I have naturally dark hair, and I went in with previously bleached ombre/balayage ends prior to my visit. When she was working on my hair, I could really sense the quality, effort, and detailed approach she put into each section. I didn't expect to be this happy with just a balayage color correction/touchup, but she really transformed my hair and I absolutely love it. I have received many compliments and my hair is still healthy. Nielle is very sweet, and she has a bubbly personality that is great to be around. She always made sure I felt comfortable, whether it be through making sure I was doing okay or chatting with me to pass the time. The interior design of her salon was adorable, and I absolutely adored it! Although something like decor may seem insignificant, the visual ambiance contributed to my positive experience. Literally the best hair I have ever had! I went from a super dark brown to this beautiful color and my hair is still heathy. She chose the color for me since I am so indecisive and it is so much more beautiful then I could imagine. Nielle was so sweet and personable. She made me feel super comfortable the entire 6 hours I was there! She gave me info how to care for my hair and keep it looking beautiful everyday. I have gotten so many compliments. Nielle Nielle Nielle I came to her with my virgin hair looking for a full balayage. As having never been to a salon, it was hard to find someone to trust. Let me tell ya, I wouldn't trust anyone else but her! She did an amazing job (sorry Nielle, my hair was long and tedious to deal with)! I had a really bad experience with Nielle. My hair is curly and asked her for a balayage highlights that looked brown caramel natural, she said she could do it and that she had many curly customers before. The result was: some parts were white, blond and some brown. During the appointment she didn't wash my hair properly and she didn't untangle it, I left with soaking wet hair and really bad highlights. I am really disappointed. read more

I got Baylage done by Nielle. She was able to work with me on a custom color that I requested. She showed me her swatch book of colors so I could chose what I wanted. I couldn't decide, so she customized the color for me. It turned out beautiful. She is professional, listens to what you want and does an amazing job. She also cut my hair, but it felt like she didn't because she didn't chop off so much where I felt like I missed my hair. I felt safe in her salon. There was sanitizer and masks required and the door was open for ventilation. I felt pampered and her salon is so peaceful. There are plants and crystals that create a boho serene environment. I recommend her services to anyone looking to get their hair done and feel like a queen for a day. read more

Nielle is AMAZING! When I saw her 2 weeks ago, I looked at her and said "Help, I don't even know what I want". I just knew I needed to get rid of the brassy hair. She instantly pulled out her book, talked through why it was turning brassy so quick, and altered my color. She gives the BEST head massage while shampooing, keeps the conversation flowing, plays jam music, and makes sure you're comfortable the whole time. My favorite thing: no questions are stupid! Nielle is amazing. I had little hope she could take me in after messaging her on yelp the day of but she did! She was accomidaditing and very professional. She listened to my concerns and wants and was able to master a work of art of cut and balyage touch up ! I enjoyed working with her so much I'm having her do my hair and make up for my wedding.
