Updated: I had some issues with the pricing but the staff reached out to resolve, which I really appreciate. Do note they charge a 3% credit card fee, I didn't see it advertised but they let me know about it afterwards. And be sure to ask about pricing upfront (don't make my mistake!). Before my appointment, I called/texted for a quick consultation to figure out which service would best match the look I wanted. The team was very responsive and helpful, taking the time to review the photos I sent and recommend the right approach. At the appointment, Days confirmed every detail by showing me a swatch book, explaining how each color would affect both my previously colored and virgin hair, and offering thoughtful advice on how to keep my hair healthy while achieving the look I wanted. I came in with grown-out highlights, and by the end, my hair looked completely refreshed and well-blended. I showed a photo of my previous short haircut to explain the style I was looking for. However, Grace could not do anything similar, and the final result did not match what I wanted. During the appointment, she appeared rushed because she had another client scheduled. When the hairstyle did not turn out as expected, she blamed me for giving the wrong direction, rather than discussing possible adjustments. I found her attitude unprofessional. When it was clear that the hairstyle did not suit me well, she did not offer to make any corrections or adjustments. This is a review for Days (Daisy). I had been searching for a new barber eversince my last ones were either out of business or just stopped. She has been the most consistent with her skill. Cuts, presentation, great conversations were had while not distracted at all. Since then, I have been very satisfied with how she cuts my hair. Been recommending her eversince. Horrible first time experience. I came here hoping that this can be my go to place going forward as this place looked nice. In the middle, the stylist said we do the shampoo. I told him that I like to have shampoo at the end. He said "this is my style" and was forcing me to have shampoo. He literally was pushing from my shoulder to go get a shampoo. Given that having shampoo in the middle and then get more haircut defeats the purpose, I didn't want it. I seriously have no idea what is wrong with this place. When I was paying, I was raising my concerns; but they were all just ignored and all I got was "sorry for not having a good experience". I asked them if this is the customer service that they strive for and are proud of, but no response. Haircut including "shampoo" in the middle is a false advertisement and lying to customers. I had a very bad experience. This past weekend, I came in the morning looking for a haircut so I could look fresh for my friend's wedding later in the day. Unfortunately, I did not look fresh. The gentlemen in a cap wearing AIRPODS cut my hair. I told him what I wanted: "a clean up on the sides, and trim the top - keep the hair down - a fringe hairstyle." He nods in understanding. He spends the majority of the time cutting the sides. When it came to the top, he did not do ANYTHING. He blow-dried my hair while combing it up (I looked like Jimmy Neutron). I thought he was going to wet it again, but no, he immediately applies a lot of styling cream and hair spray and calls it a day. I was shocked... After the cut, he asks me to hold the mirror so I can look at the sides, but he doesn't even hold the mirror up for me so I can see the back of my head. Yes, you might say I should have said something or asked to get it fixed after it was done. I was a little pressed for time and wanted to get to the wedding a little early. I was shocked when he started putting on cream. If I didn't have plans later in the day, I would have asked someone else to recut my hair. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time in my car using water from my water bottle to restyle my hair. Just imagine how difficult that was with all the hair product. I was going to cry. I'm not sure what the gentleman was thinking/listening to in his airpods when I first sat in the chair, but I didn't expect my experience to turn out like this. Huge fan of Grace! I had very thick, long hair that I've been wanting to chop for a while. I first got a hair wash. I don't know what shampoo they use, but it smells soooo good. I forgot to ask what they used, but my bf was sniffing my head all day because it smelled so good haha! Grace made me very comfortable, as well as meticulously cut my hair. I can tell she puts a lot of effort and time into her work, which has put my continuing faith into her as a hairdresser. I get my hair usually cut in Asia, but it's nice to know that I have someone in the Bay Area that I can trust to cut my hair. In total, the total cost was $80 + tip. Take in account that the haircuts start at $60, but depending on your hair type, how long it takes, and thickness, it may increase. That surprised me a bit, but Grace did a great job, so worth it! read more

I've been here plenty of times, getting my hair done with Ling and Edward. I've had red hair, blue hair, and I decided to go with burgundy this time. My service was with Edward who gave me a haircut with layers and some frame facing bangs. He dyed my hair with patience and meticulously. One of the staff washed my hair and it was so refreshing because she also took her time ensuring it was washed properly after the dye. The vibe of this place is always great, everyone is so friendly and I love the music they play in the background. 8/6 Update. Ling reached out to me right after I posted my review. She offered to help fix my hair - for color and for blending the style. I walked in feeling a bit awkward but quickly learned that my hair was in the best hands. She explained what might have happened and then how she would re-create my vision. She did an incredible job! The quoted price for highlights was quite high so I worked overtime to pay for this, as a treat to myself. I was treated very well getting the whole service- cut and highlight. However, post the service, the final hair style turned out to be plain ugly and terrible. I asked for ash brown highlights and all I have is brash, blonde highlights. I had clearly mentioned I don't want blonde. They're not symmetric either around the head either. It was an unpleasant experience and now I'm stuck with this hair for a long time. I was a little apprehensive about going in to a salon after a year of growing out my hair. The hair stylist (I forgot to ask their name) took care to hear me out about all my concerns and pointers about my hair type etc. It was a speedy and efficient job after I showed him a few pics and he confirmed via another set of pics on his phone. I was also given a nice wash after the cut was done. The final appearance was exactly what I was going for. The appointment started exactly on time. Overall, it was money well spent. First time and Revolution and I had a great experience! They were very responsive and friendly when I reached out, which I decided to after reading reviews from others about their covid-19 protocols. The salon was very clean, they did temperature checks at the door and encouraged everyone to use hand sanitizers upon entering. Face masks were also required, of course! The salon was relaxing the whole time I was there and both the workers and other clients there were all chill and respectful. Lester asked me what I wanted to do and I showed him a few pictures to give him an idea and he offered advice to accomplish what I wanted while also keeping my hair healthy. I went in for a perm and honestly didn't think any salon still offered an old school chemical, as even the website say they are doing digitals. My bad for not specifying. My stylist was very nice and said that I should expect something in between all the reference photos I showed him. I was nervous as soon as I found out we're doing a Chem perm, but he was confident so we went with it. (It's just hair! I was told :)...) Right after we were done it was clear that the top part didn't take at all, the stylist right away offered me to come back for a fix free of charge... I have never left a salon looking so bad, my hair had always been my best feature, always healthy looking but leaving there it was embarrassing looking. Unfortunately it has been about 2 weeks since my visit and all I can see is choppiest haircut I ever got and damage that will take months to get over. Zero additional curl/wave. No matter how I dry and style it. There's no point for me to go back as i don't think it's the best idea to damage it further. Revolution is in downtown San Mateo. Parking is street parking (metered). Hair stylists are friendly and funny as well. I came in for a haircut, and ended up getting a haircut and tone as well. My hair stylist was friendly and listened to me about the length unlike a lot of other places - she kept it over my shoulder like I prefer. I thought my haircut was decent, but after a week or so, the bangs she gave me were getting a bit annoying, especially when I work out, it just gets in the way and covers my eyes/face. I showed a picture to the stylist and tried to further specify the kind of style I was looking for. The stylist didn't allow me to finish (I was telling him I'd like more volume on the top and thinner hair at the bottom) and stopped me by saying "are you teaching me how to cut" and then decided not to serve me. This was probably just 2 minutes after it's my turn to sit down into the styling chair. I was so shocked by how offensive he was. The person who seemed to be the owner noticed the situation but all she did was defending with different excuses. I was "educated" that it was sufficient to just show the picture and any additional talking shows a lack of trust. She also said stylists are creative people who have their own attitude and decide who to serve (I respect your creativity but should this be the excuse for not listening customer needs?) She never acknowledged that I was not being listened for what I wanted or apologized for the rudeness of the stylist. She offered to serve me instead (which I appreciated). But after 30 mins wait when she became available, ironically, she didn't tell I intended to cut my hair short after seeing the picture (my hair was long at the moment and the hair in the picture was clearly short). Well done Revolution hair studio. You successfully turned a repeat customer into someone who will never come back. read more

I'm a model with JE Model San Francisco and work was already tough to come by this year, but after this haircut I may have to quit the industry for the rest of the year. I had asked for an inch off the top, but unfortunately there was a communication gap between me and the "stylist" that left my head injury exposed and the scar that I've hidden using my long wavy hair fully exposed (see image). Furthermore, the hair on the left is terminated unexpectedly and the cut lacks continuity and shape. I look like an abstract Picasso piece, and not in a good way. The owner has since refunded me in full and asked me to come by for a redo, however I don't think I would like to take the chance given the little hair I do have remaining. If you are desperate enough to come here, please write down exactly what you're expecting from the haircut and watch the progress every 5 minutes. Excellent service overall. This salon is the best in terms of easy booking, salon's location , cleanliness, staff professionalism, experience, expertise, and helpfulness. Price is very reasonable compared to other Hair Salons within 15 miles perimeter. This is a modern salon at downtown San Mateo. All staff are very friendly and helpful. They are not pushy in selling unnecessary services or hair products. They listen to your needs and concerns. As I watched the other hairstylists, everyone who came out had very modern and beautiful hairstyles for both men and women. They use quality hair products without sacrificing the quality of the services in relation to the price of the services. Each hairstylist focus only on you and does not do multitasking like doing 4 clients at the same time. Also, they do not rush to finish you and get you out of the door. I attached photo of the prices of their services as of 08/26/2023. I had Lester as my hairstylist today and was very knowledgeable and well experienced in haircut and color. I had been to salons nearby which are way pricier but unfortunately less quality in service and are pushy to get you sign up for other services and push you to buy hair products that you know in your heart and mind you do not need. Revolution Salon treat you with respect and dignity and you are treated like a VIP. Tl;dr: It's pricey but you pay for the service. The experience is set up like what you'd expect if you got your hair done in Asia. The review is long overdue. I had my appt in Feb before SIP was enacted. I contacted the salon through Yelp to arrange my appointment and it was quick and easy. I had my appt with Edward so my review is for him. I was there early because I needed my hair appt to be finished before 11:45 am and was explicit about this when I was making my appointment with Ling. I was working swing shifts so I couldn't be late. Unfortunately, Edward was late to the scheduled time by over 15 minutes. He gave me some sort of excuse about traffic and I pass it off since it happens to the best of us. While he was getting ready, their salon assistant gave me a hair wash before the cut. I was looking for a new go-to stylist and a potential hair colorist so I made the effort to learn more about him and to make it less awkward. I think it ended up being more awkward because he seemed to not understand my job very well and the conversation fizzled after I tried explaining my role twice. 11:45 am was nearing and it didn't seem like the haircut was going to be wrapped up in time so I politely asked if he thought we would finish by then as I needed to go to work. He said we would and not to worry. We literally finished by that time and I really needed to go. Now here's the part about service: The stylists treat their customers with a type of white-glove approach; they will get your coat, hat, and bag for you; they will help you put on your coat before handing you your accessories and bag; you are then taken to checkout. If this is what you are looking for, then come here. As I was in a rush at this point, I decline the help by saying I did not have anything else with me (I had a jacket). After a few days of getting used to my hair, I don't think much of it. My hair is long and I asked for light layers and bangs. I had examples of what I would like and the bangs did not come out as I hoped. I have gotten bangs before so I knew what I was looking for. All in all, I'm not very impressed. I can't help but wonder if the experience would be different if the stylist wasn't late and I had the full scheduled time to get my haircut. It's a shame the experience turned out this way since I was looking to switch to a closer hairstylist and to also get my hair dyed.
