The Universe Said "Next Door" I walked in here frustrated. The place right next to this one had just wasted my time. I almost went home. I didn't. Good call. Same day, walk in, seated immediately. No pitch. No upsell. Just a stylist who actually listened and got to work. Here is where it gets good. He shampooed my hair. Gave me a scalp massage. Nobody asked him to. Nobody paid extra for it. He just did it because that is apparently how they move here. That detail alone tells you everything about the culture of this place. The cut was 30 minutes. Clean lines, intentional technique, exactly what I asked for. I have paid twice as much at places that delivered half as much. The space is spotless. Boutique energy without the attitude. I would like to say how much I appreciate Diego, who cut my 2year old daughter's hair, and another stylist who worked with my 8year old and gave her layers with bangs. They both made sure I was comfortable with the haircuts and did a great job making my daughters feel at ease during the entire session. Ruby, the salon manager, was incredibly patient with my two daughters while doing their nails as well. They were giggling the whole time, and she made them feel relaxed and turned it into such a fun experience. Not every salon is this accommodating to kids! My entire experience was 10 out of 10! Yvonne is able to achieve a naturally looking ash blonde on my super dark thick hair. Every time I walk out of there I feel like a million bucks. I recently had my hair done at Y Salon in San Mateo, and Sayo did an amazing job. She is new to the field, but you would never know it as she did a wonderful job coloring and cutting my hair. She clearly has a lot of talent and a very bright future in hair coloring and styling. One of the best parts of the experience was seeing how supportive the salon environment is. Other stylists checked in with her, guided her when needed, and made sure everything was done correctly which it absolutely was. It was very reassuring to see such strong teamwork. The owner also came over to introduce herself, which was a really nice extra touch. UPDATE: The salon has since apologized and refunded the difference between what I paid and what I booked online. Came here to treat my mom to a head spa for her birthday. We'd been here once before and found the prices to be reasonable. The employees were all super friendly, the salon was busy (always a good sign), and the interior itself was cute, so we immediately knew we'd come back. This time around, I booked my mom a head spa appointment, while I booked a 45-minute Swedish massage for myself. It was $65 for the message, which again was super reasonable. Tracy did my massage, she applied the perfect amount of pressure and was very kind throughout the session! Oanh helped my mom with her head spa, and she raved about it afterwards! Everything went smoothly until it came time to pay. When I booked the appointments, the listed price on the booking link for the headspa was $49. Even on my email confirmation, it confirmed the price of $49 (see photo attached). Yet when paying at the counter, I was told the price was $85. I inquired why the total was so much higher than what I booked. They informed me they had been running a promotion, but it was only for April, and since it was May 2nd, it wouldn't apply. This wasn't written anywhere on the website, and my email confirmation was dated for May 2nd with the $49 price. Seemed a bit like false advertising and very sketchy that they're not being transparent about their promotions. They should have made it very clear the promotion was for April only, and honored the price we booked at. Bummed because we thought we had found a salon to become regulars at, but we're unsure about making future appointments if we can't trust the pricing when booking. read more

I originally booked an appointment, but had to return because the front desk forgot to take my card for a deposit. So I went back, mostly to cancel the appointment due to a personal scheduling conflict that had just come up. Canceling took quite a while to process, so while I was waiting I decided to buy two nail polishes listed at $20. When I went to pay, the total came out to $24 -- which works out to a 20% tax/fee, far higher than normal sales tax. I then switched to cash to avoid the extra 3% card fee after seeing a sign, but the total increased to $25 because I was told the first amount had been entered incorrectly! Thats's about a 25% sales tax and fees! At most, I expected to pay $22 in cash with tax. I know it's just a few dollars, but something wasn't right. The staff were polite but slow (I think they were new so I tried to be patient), but the repeated errors and inflated charges left me uncomfortable. I decided not to purchase anything and left, feeling annoyed but also glad I discovered this on a smaller transaction before trusting them with full services that would've been a few hundred $$ read more

I had a mixed experience here at this salon. On the plus side, my nail tech Paola did a great job with my nails. She listened carefully to what I wanted and my nails came out exactly the way I had envisioned. I was satisfied with her service and would book with her again. On the other hand, my sister's experience was very disappointing. The quality of the nail service she received was so poor and when she had politely pointed out that there was gel polish left on her skin, the response she received from the tech was very rude and dismissive. The service was ultimately comped by the salon which shows how unacceptable the situation was. One major issue that I want to point out is the salon's website and booking system. There are no descriptions explaining what each service entails, which made booking very confusing, especially when choosing between similar services. When I brought this up in person, I was told that clients should leave comments explaining what they want. However, I don't think it should be the customer's responsibility to decipher services due to missing information. Clearer service descriptions would help avoid mismatched bookings and inconsistent experiences. There are definitely skilled nail techs here, but improvements to the booking process and service clarity are needed. I hope these issues can be addressed so situations like this can be prevented in the future. read more

Update: my rescheduled appointment went well. Both the lash tech and salon owner were gracious and up to speed about what happened. They even offered a free mani in apology for the missed appointment. The lash lift overall went okay. It was longer than expected (appointment was for 1 hour, it went 1.5). I appreciated the offered blanket to keep warm. My right eyelashes came out less curled than the left side, and there's been some irritation (redness) and skin peeling on my upper eyelids. So maybe some of the harsher products got on my skin. Overall, I think the final result is due to lash lifts being less popular in the US. Lash techs probably get less experience in general. 4 stars for lash lift, 5 stars for service read more

They treat you like a princess. I enjoyed my cut. Yvonne listens! I told her I didn't want to cut so much off, and she listened. She didn't lop off inches from my hair (which often happens at other salons). Yvonne recommended a gloss to hide my grays -- or to use my grays as highlights by coloring them with a highlighting gloss. I've had the treatment before so I knew I'd be happy with it. The only thing I wish I did was to be firm that I wanted a gloss that is close to my hair color. I've had a chocolate color gloss before and I liked it. Yvonne suggested an eggplant color. It turned out nice afterwards but everytime I see my hair now, I see an "old lady" pink color highlight. I'll come back again but next time I'll be firm and ask for chocolate color.
