This is a review for Shelby Capote at Le Reve Salon. I've followed Shelby around the peninsula! Her skill at balayage is amazing, and she's the only one who has ever been able to find the right balance of color and tone to give me a natural, but refined look. Beyond that, she's just a super person and very pleasant to spend a few hours with. I am so grateful that I found her - thanks to her, I now wear my hair down for the first time in decades. Her cuts are top-notch as well. Le Reve Salon is very charming and homey. It is clean, warm, and unpretentious. I'm back to update a 6 year old review! I have purple hair again and honestly am always so very please with Jessi and the hours of care she put into my hair. I needed a change and Jessi pulled through and gave me the refresh I needed! I always trust her judgment and she never over promises - she's very honest with results and it's what I love the most about her. She won't steer you wrong! They're open in covid! When you arrive for your appointment, you wait outside and text/call them. Your stylist will come out and temperature check you before you go inside. Indoors, I felt very safe as there was only one other stylist while I was there and they were probably 25 ft away. Big shout out to Jessi as she saved my hair again! I was on the east coast for many months and couldn't come home. I've learned my lesson to not go to other stylists, Jessi fixed a terrible previous color job and made me ashy blonde again. read more

Wow! I feel like a new woman! Yet another awesome haircut at Le Reve Salon. This was my first haircut during quarantine and I had a great experience! Not only is the staff always super friendly, but they are also following COVID-19 guidelines - upon arrival, I filled out a safety form outside and my temperature was kindly checked by the receptionist before stepping in. Everyone inside was properly wearing a mask. My stylist was Aimie today, who gave me an amazing (or should I say Amie-zing, long layered cut! Everything was perfect from the hairwash, to the cut and styling! I can tell she really cares about her clients and that she genuinely loves what she does - and she's so good at it too! Her attentiveness does not go unnoticed! My mask was not fitting my face properly today so Aimie even gave me a new surgical mask so I didn't have to keep finicking with it! I've included photos of my new lovely (and beautifully styled cut). I had never curled my hair before, and I'm really feeling this curled look now :) I've always had a great experience at Le Reve and I'll definitely be back. I'm a fan! My stylist is Katelyn! First, I love the location! Street parking, tons of it and it is free. A rarity in Burlingame =) Second, love the vibe. The decor down to the music playing in the background (island reggae) makes the experience all the while more relaxing. I have been here three times in the past few months for a balayage and highlights. The scheduling process was fairly easy, I was able to luckily get an appoint in with Katelyn. I showed her a few pictures of what I wanted to achieve and she wholeheartedly told me if she could deliver the results or not. If not, she discussed the steps of what we would need in order to get there. She also offered the option of emailing her pictures with ideas that I may have, which I really appreciated. Rarely does your stylist offer to communicate via email and I appreciated her flexibility. I love how this salon is respectful of your time. Therefore, you can get colored, cut, etc. with the option to blow dry and style your own hair or pay extra and get styled. This is extremely helpful for those on the go. Such a time saver! Furthermore, the wifi is gold here lol I was able to get work done, logging on the wifi while getting my hair done. =) Lastly, the prices are surprisingly affordable for the quality of service you are getting. I am down one star because in regards to tip, its cash only. You cannot include it with your services and the nearest ATM is a few blocks away. I came in about a month ago for a haircut with Rhea. I chose her based on her instagram page and her good yelp reviews. This was going to be my "post-SIP life after Covid 2020" haircut so I had high expectations. I have long wavy hair that is sort of fine and frizzy and dry. I wanted to look more modern and get curtain bangs and a shorter cut- but I also am not willing to style my hair or put much effort into it. So I showed up telling Rhea, who was meeting me for the first time, to give me bangs, make me look modern, but give me a cut that would require no styling! Hahahaha. Easy, right? FYI- my friends told me I was insane for getting a "makeover" cut with bangs by someone that I had never met before. Well, it's been a month since my haircut, and I still love it as much as the day she did it. I have longer fringe bangs, below the shoulder length hair, and my natural curls and volume have returned. I don't need to style my hair at all. She sold me two products that I put in my hair after washing and then I put it in a bun, sleep on it, and it looks perfect in the morning. I don't even have to rewet my bangs. She did an awesome job. I cannot recommend Rhea enough. I am so thankful for the cut and for the education on styling and products she gave me during the appointment. read more

I've lived in the Bay Area for 6 years now and I think I found my forever hair stylist. Lauren did an AMAZING job on my balayage. I went in with "highlights" that my previous stylist did on me a month prior and it was a mess. I asked Lauren for what I originally had wanted and she explained to me that since I had patches of orange in my hair and it was yellow (as you can see in the before picture attached) it would be a process, I've been blonding my hair for 5 and a half years so I know how it goes. She 100% gave me what I wanted and it turned out amazing and even blonder than I expected since I have naturally dark hair. She does a great balayage and outdid herself to say the least. I went in for a Men's haircut with Maddie. She gave me such a precision haircut it reminded me of the old days when I went to Elizabeth Arden Red Door in Union Square San Francisco. That is going back some decades! I have not had such a terrific haircut since, as I got yesterday. Maddie is an expert in the making! Amy is the best! I emailed Le Reve asking for a consultation and they were super responsive and suggested I come for the consultation. I've dyed my hair various times (red, purple, light brown, dark brown) and when I met with Amy, I showed her all these hair pictures from pinterest and instagram. We came to the conclusion that I wanted to do balayage. I asked Amy how long the process would take and she told me about two hours and we scheduled my appointment for 2 weeks after the consultation. Amy wasn't kidding, the process along with blow dry and styling took 2 hours. She even curled my hair for me and she knew exactly what I wanted. it's been almost 3 weeks and I'm still loving my hair, can't wait to make it even lighter next time. I went in today for an appointment with Haley. She was beyond helpful in helping me decide how I wanted my hair. She asks many questions so she can give you exactly what you want. She even makes great suggestions if you are not sure. She gave me beautiful layers that went smoothly and perfectly with my hair. She then proceeded with a blow dry and style, such gentle hands when blow drying that I literally almost fell asleep! Normally you have to say "ouch" but nope not with her. She took over an hour with my hair because I have A LOT of hair! Not once did she try to speed up the process or complain. Overall, phenomenal service. Jessi is very knowledgeable, so her consultation was very helpful; pretty much attentive to the details of what my hair had gone through (two perms and black hair dye) and strategized a game plan to maneuver past that. Throughout the whole treatment (from opening to closing time) she was positive and answered all my questions, I'd definitely recommend her to anyone - she's super talented. This review is specifically for Stylist Jessi as she is the only stylist I I have ever been to at La Reve and as a result will NOT be going back. I have actually never been so disappointed in a hairdresser experience in my 13 years of getting highlights. I would like to start by mentioning that I work 12-14 hour days about 6 days a week and getting to the salon is something that took WEEKS of planning and organizing into my schedule. Talk about an UPSET. I entered the salon to find it COMPLETELY empty. No receptionist, about 6 or 7 chairs, ALL EMPTY.... hmmm... I wandered in a little bit and hollered out a couple of hellos... NOTHING. OK, I'll take a seat on the couch with the magazines and hope someone turns up. About 10 minutes later, someone surfaced. Girl who ended up being Jessi. I was about 10 means early, so at this point, it was already my appointment time, 4:00pm. Jessi had just finished washing her previous client and was about to start a cut and style. First thoughts, OK... so I am here sitting on this couch when I could be at work finishing up the 270415 things I have to do today! I just let it go and flicked through the glamour mags trying to decide the color I wanted. The blonder the better I thought in my head! I found a great pic of Katherine Heigl with her new blonde locks, perfect. I'll show Jessi this one I thought. After about 35 or so minutes, it was finally my time to sit in the chair and be "pampered". Jessi made an OK first impression, although quite slow to move around the place. Mixing the color took what felt like 25 mins. Little did I know this was setting the tone for the ENTIRE appointment. She informed me that the Salon had just won Best of the Bay... and they were expecting camera crews to come. I thought to myself, its a good thing they didn't come today... place was DEAD! We had a brief consult and I showed her the pic saying I wanted to really brighten up my look for summer, had tried out and light brunette look for the winter and wanted some all over highlights. With all the grey coming in, brown was NOT a good look. At least they can hide in the blonde. She asked a bit about my part, I explained I usually tied my hair back for work, not focused on my part etc. She started in on the highlight foils. Couple of things I noted here that REALLY worried me, but I stayed quiet, figured I would leave it to the professional...(ha! BIG mistake!) -She went all the way to my hair line! (every SINGLE hairdresser I have EVER been to noted that you should NEVER go to the hairline... always a step in with highlights) -She was only putting bleach on HALF of every strand and letting the rest OUT of the foil. (?!?!!??!) After about 2 hours and 10 minutes, she was FINALLY finished putting in the foils. Sat under the dryer for a bit and about 3hrs and 15 mins later, she was FINALLY finished. I was faced away from the mirror after she washed so I didn't see ANYTHING until the last second... For the BIG reveal.....My request for a trim led to her taking off about 3 inches, my request for a long layered style, resulted in short mullet feeling layers and upon leaving the salon, I had roots and pathetic spotty "highlights" that at best covered the top half of my head?!?! Two weeks later, I need to go to the salon again. Good luck fitting this into my schedule... any suggestions for a GOOD place? read more

This review is for Men's Haircuts only, so ladies, don't panic at the stars. I went to Le Reve because I wanted to try something new with my hair and wanted to get an actual stylist to provide advice/direction/something different. While my stylist was very nice, they were definitely not able to do that and instead just provided a trim slightly better than what I could have gotten for $15 at any generic salon. Getting a men's haircut here is like ordering a Crab Sandwich at a burger joint-- you shouldn't do it. However, if you're a lady looking for a great salon, this one seems really nice, the stylists are friendly, the decor/ambiance is good, and all the women I saw in there left all the better for it. To be honest I think they just shouldn't offer Men's haircuts. They don't have experience or expertise on it, they don't do it regularly, and paying $40 for a haircut that was essentially just a scissor trim is pointless. Luckily, I'm a guy, and in four weeks I'll have a clean canvas for somewhere else. read more

I have had my hair cut with Maria twice already, she is AMAZING!!!! I decided to try bangs and OMG is she a perfectionist! She takes her time and makes sure that your haircut is flawless! i love it! Also, i am letting my hair grow and she was very careful to make sure not too much was cut! I hate when i go to get a haircut and ask to just trim the ends and you loose half of your hair... not here :-) The 1st time i went my hair had no shape at all, Maria cut it in layers and it looks great! I first started seeing Rhea at Didi Salon (which is also very awesome) and am very proud and excited that she and Julie have opened their own salon nearby. Rhea never fails to give my hair a cut and color that I am happy with. Every time I get my hair highlighted/cut, I get dozens of compliments- even months after the fact! Another plus is that she really knows how to color and cut asian hair (which I have)- I always come out looking classy (never trashy, orange, or extremely unnatural). This is second time I went to this salon. Last time was one and half year ago, maybe. At that time my hair stylist was attentive and trying to good job. This time, I had a young stylist named Jessi. She was nice but I had impression that she just wanted to get it done her job quick, not paid much attention to what she did. When I came home and looked myself in a mirror, I found left side was much longer that right side. The right side was not even, there was partially longer that other part, which should not be that way. I thought about called them and go back there and redone, but I did not want to waist my time. I am a very busy mother of 3 and I never get a chance to "pamper" myself!! The last time I got my hair done it took close to 5 1/2 -6 hours.. I don't have time for that. I'm a low maintenance hair style kinda gal and favor hats and ponytails but I was so happy I went in the other week for a cut with Maria. I followed Maria from a previous fancy schmancy salon in San Mateo and Le Reve is a great switch up. Gorgeous and relaxing atmosphere. Street parking was a breeze for a Saturday.
