I got my makeup done here and the quality was not good. The products used were wet and wild for foundation and low end products. You are in Burlingame so I was expecting better quality products used for a professional makeup appointment.!My eyeliner was not good and my eyelashes were curled after being placed. My makeup was rushed and you could tell. I had to redo my whole entire makeup prior to the event. I had to go to Sephora and apply different eyelashes as I was short on time. It was a disaster. I will not be going back and will not put my picture on this review because I am embarrassed on how bad it was. No high end makeup was offered at all. Every product used was cheap. The owner refuses to accept this review. Also my friend who went after me had the same experience and had to re do her makeup prior to the event. Save yourself from ruining ur special day and shop wisely when getting your makeup done on your special day. It really can ruin it for you. Jira is a master of her craft and so are the other stylists in her salon! I came here with my bridesmaids to get our hair and makeup done for my wedding day. There are different hair and makeup artists. I loved my sister's makeup and I thought my makeup was maybe just okay (I was the bride). I do not recommend this salon if you have curly hair. I'm a bit disappointed because I had read good reviews for wedding hair and makeup so we went here for the mom of groom and bride and the bride. My mother in law ended up taking the makeup completely off because she was so unhappy with it. And she also washed and redid her hair. She also did not like the hairstyle that exposed her thinning hair. Her experience was negative. The foundation color didn't match her skin tone and made her look older. She was so unhappy. My sister had a good experience with her makeup. They fixed some parts of her hair that were messed up after my mom noticed some strands falling out. The makeup got splotchy because she has dryer skin but it wasn't too noticeable. I came with curly hair and had read the instructions sent to me that mentioned no oil in the hair beforehand and also for curly hair folks going for a smoother look, that you need to straighten it out. I didn't want a straightened look but have done my hair and makeup at different weddings and they were able to even use a curling iron on my natural curls. Here though, the hair artist left my hair very dry and puffy and I had to go home to do my hair since they didn't know how to do it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They told me I hadn't read the instructions and that I had to have product. Another staff member mentioned it would take 1.5 hour to straighten my hair then make curls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've had my hair done by other hair artists, they have also done different hair style types using my natural curls. At this salon, they didn't have products for curly hair either so I was surprised and disappointed that they didn't know how to work with curly hair. I was so disappointed to have to go home to finish my hair right before my wedding. I think it was hard because it seemed like they didn't want to try to make my hair look nice. Like they left it puffy and dry looking. My mom had to ask if they had anything to make it look shiny. She said they didn't... [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall I wish we had a better experience. Jira did makeup for my mom and I for a family wedding. It was very light and natural just like what we wanted. It turned out really nice and we both loved it very much. Jira suggested that I get highlights to give myself a new youthful look and I said why not since my hair is boring anyways so I went for it. I decided to scheduled this appointment a few days later. I'm glad I did because Jira did a great job and I am loving my new hair. She colored my hair, washed/shampooed, trimmed and styled my hair. If accentuated natural beauty (soft glam) is what you're looking for, she's your girl. She did an AMAZING job on my moms, so much that they were taking selfies together in the suite for hours! Jira has done hair for a long time, and was very helpful in giving me what I was looking for from just a single photo, but was also great in giving some suggestions to specifically cater to me (like my face shape, and hair goals). In my case, going from straight to side bangs, and adding a bit of layers for volume. It took 4 hours but I felt very relaxed the whole time. So I thought I didn't need makeup artist for my wedding because I will only have virtual ceremony before the actual celebration...but sure enough, few days before the ceremony I burnt my finger when I tried to practice doing my hair (it's pandemic, been years since I did my hair) so I decided to find a makeup artist last minute. I called so many vendors, and they were either fully booked, or unreasonably expensive the moment they hear "wedding" and "bride" even though I said I don't need a real wedding makeup (not sure what's the difference except the price tbh, I'm no expert). I came across Wowpretty and Jira picked up my call, she gave me an earful for not booking in advance like other brides would (in a friendly way, no hard feeling at all) and she gave me a reasonable price. There was a little bit scheduling issue because she tried to fit me into her full schedule but we luckily we were able to find the time before my wedding. I live in south bay and have been happily going to Jira for my haircuts for the last 15 years since my wedding day! I have full, thick Asian hair and other stylists in the past have gently complained to me about it. I set up an appointment easily by phone and Jira provided tons of photos of her past work for me to look through and find inspiration. I think the only thing I would change is the transparency in the actual price of service. The prices say they don't include shampoo - which for most people getting color done doesn't make since, as my logic tells me that it is necessary for color to be rinsed out. I had a full highlight and I did think $130 was way too good to be true when seeing the price set- not realizing just having it rinsed out and shampooed was an additional cost. I got my hair and makeup for my wedding through Jira and Sooyeon! I did a trial a few weeks prior, which I highly recommend. You may think you want one particular hairstyle or makeup look, but then when you try it out, it's not executed as desired. I'm glad I did the trial, and figured out what I wanted before the big day! I had Jira do my bride hair and makeup. I was extremely pleased with the way it looked. I specifically chose her because it seems that she specializes in Asian make up - which may not matter to some, or may not be what others want, but it's what I wanted. I also wanted that elegant, timeless, romantic look, which is exactly what I got!! I really appreciated her helpful tips and advice on what looks good, what wouldn't work for my particular hair type (thin, short). Her makeup and hair on me was flawless the day of!!! She does airbrush makeup, and also does hair extensions if you want. Sooyeon was her assistant, who did the hair and makeup for each of my bridesmaids. She did a great job overall, and my bridesmaids were happy with her service. The only reason why I give 4 stars is because the schedule said Sooyeon's arrival time was 6:30am. No one was to be seen at 6:30am, so I texted her to see what the ETA was. Sooyeon texted back "Omg" and "I will be there soon." She ended up arriving at 7am. Jira apologized, and ended up showing up a little early, and squeezed in my mom's makeup to help with the tardy attendance. All the hair and makeup did finish at 11am (instead of projected 10:30am), but it was okay because the photographer allowed for extra time. In the end, it all worked out fine. But I think Jira should have offered a discount of some sort to makeup for the situation. All that was discounted was that they both were dropped off at the hotel, so I didn't have to pay for their parking. I also feel like her website was outdated and difficult to navigate. She has photos from years ago, which were nice, but I wanted to see more recent ones too. Communication wise, she is VERY VERY fast to respond by email or text, which was SO NICE!!!! Literally she will respond within minutes, every time. This was SO helpful!!! I had my wedding makeup and hair done here. I did a makeup trial that I was happy with. I was going to have an appointment at Halo for a blowout because I wanted a simple blowout, not an updo. However, [[HIGHLIGHT]]Jira convinced me that she could do my blowout to avoid my having to go to two separate locations on my wedding day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was my mistake not doing a hair trial but I figured it was just a blowout after all. The first strange thing was she told me to wash my hair at home, otherwise I would be charged extra to have it washed in the salon. She immediately starts drying my hair without putting any smoothing or heat protectant product in, and she dries it very roughly. And then she starts curling it. At this point I'm very concerned because I had requested a blowout not curls. And without product and/or pulling it with a brush during the blow drying, I'm worried my hair will be very frizzy. At the end I ended up with frizzy curls that no amount of hairspray could fix. My sister was constantly trying to smooth out my hair throughout the wedding and photos, and I'm sad about how my wedding pictures turned out. A few months later I went to Halo to get a blowout for work photos and my hair turned out beautifully. I really regret going to Jira / Wowpretty for my hair. I think a salon like this should be capable of doing a simple blowout, especially considering how much I paid! Edit: Jira has posted my identifying information, which I have asked her to remove. I notice she has done this on several negative reviews (but not positive reviews), and I think it may be an intimidation tactic to encourage people to remove negative reviews. Yay! COVID is over well at last life si back to normal. Truthfully we let our hair go it go but now its time to dress it up. Kay was very happy with her treatment and the price is reasonable too. Until last year we have been coming here for 10 years every 4 months and Jira is absolutely fantastic. She is always professional and runs a very clean studio. She is very friendly and every conversation is informative. A few of my friends have said their hair stylist didn't make the pandemic. So I decided to write a review so I can just dig this up. I went in for my hair and make up for my maternity photoshoot over the weekend, this is by far the worst make up artist and hair place I have ever come across in my entire life. Hair: They started out with my hair first, and from the get go they kept complaining that I have a lot a hair and that my hair is too curly and that they cannot do certain things. The hair was dry and no products in it, I gave them enough freedom to use any product and straighten the hair and do a simple curls at the ends. They did such a terrible job that I had to ask them to stop it half way and find another appointment in drybar right after and get it done with drybar. Drybar was so happy to have me, dedicated their time and energy to care for my hair and understand what I really want. Make up: Since the hair was messed up, I think the artist carried that frustration to the make up session and made me look 20 years older than I am supposed to look. Jira stepped in at the end trying to fix the make up disaster done by the other artist but wasn't very helpful either. I paid a fortune to go through 2+ hours pure hell. They want me to show them pics for reference for what i am looking for, as soon as I show them the pics they keep complaining its too fair and my skin is not as fair so that pic wont work, if i show them the same skin colored reference pic they would find some fault even in that too. I lost words to explain and show them examples. So i had to leave the salon with pure frustration and disappointment after paying a fortune. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
