As a stylist for over 40+ years, I've had many women and men in my chair. Sometimes, people need to realize that they may not have the same texture / curl pattern as the example they wish to have. I consider myself a master colorist. I have done a ton of high-lights, low-lights and general color services. Mixing formulas and making my clients look more beautiful and always maintaining the integrity of the hair. Hairstylists are not only technical, but also artists. So, we have something in mind, as do our clients. Communication with your stylist is key to having your desired results! So please keep this in mind when things don't turn out exactly as planned. Hopefully, your stylist will be honest enough with you to share the fact that you will not look exactly like the picture of the model you choose in a magazine or in a book of hairstyles. I had Lady cut my hair and I asked for long layers with facial framing and when she was done it didn't seem to blend well and looked blotchy and uneven. I asked if we could make it blend in more and she said yes and was super apologetic. Even after "fixing" it, it still is a bit uneven and doesn't blend in very well. Lady was so sweet but i'm disappointed in the haircut I got for paying over $100 I ended up calling the salon and Hillary (the owner) was able to see me to even it out free of charge. She was very understanding and seemed happy to try to fix it. It still didn't turn out quite like I wanted but I appreciate the willingness to accommodate UPDATE: As much as I appreciate the professionalism of the staff and willingness to try to fix it, I have had several people tell me that it looks very choppy and not well done in the last couple days. Which means I will have to pay for another haircut elsewhere to fix it. Very disappointed that I paid over $100 for a botched haircut that needs fixing :( read more

The only person I trust with my hair color I've been going to Lady for the past 1.5 years, and she's the only person I trust when it comes to coloring my hair. She really listens to what I want, and she actually cared about recreating the TikTok look I showed her, while still being honest about what would work best for my hair. One thing I appreciate is how much she cares about hair health. She always gives me tips and explains how to take care of it between appointments, which has been super helpful. As a college student, that kind of advice goes a long way. She's really easy to reach through IG, and her vibe is super chill and motherly. I came by here to tag along with a friend and wasn't even sure if I wanted to get my hair done.. I had a few questions, they had a few questions, next thing you know I'm sitting and getting ready to get my hair done.. they just knew.. I've been going to the same hair place for years!!! This is my first time here at Onyx Salon and boy was I missing out!!! I've always wanted to have blonde highlights but my hair lady at a different salon always told me because rod my hair it can't work.. I came to Onyx and was very lucky to have gotten Derek! Derek was very knowledgeable and transparent! Derek was very mindful of what was important to me and he gave me blonde highlights!!!!!! It didn't take too long either. It also helped that Derek has an amazing personality, cheerful, so sweet, professional and continued to check on me to make sure I am comfortable coffee, tea, water etc. overall I left this salon super happy!! Derek explained the types of shampoos and condition to help maintain color. I also paid attention to everyone else and everyone that walked out of this salon was very pleased and happy with their hair! They are all very talented and knowledgeable! My almost 9 year old had an amazing experience with Karina! It was my daughter's first salon haircut since I've been cutting her hair at home. Karina was amazingly sweet and warm. I saw Lady for color. I have never gotten my hair colored at Onyx before, so I chose a more experienced senior colorist. I showed her a photo of a plum darker red tone and she ended up giving me highlights, when the photo showed an all over color. I was specific about what I wanted and suggested to do less color underneath and focus more on the top. She didn't do that. I didn't get what I wanted, nonetheless I was happy with her work since it was a big change for me. A few days later, I notice bleach spots where the color didn't seem to take as well. She suggested it could have been from me using a curling wand and from the heat. I told her I loved the color and the way it looked and asked her to just add more dye or color to cover the bleached areas. She didn't do that, she dyed it a much darker color, nothing like I wanted. Then she said it will "last longer". I really wasn't happy at all with the follow up job because she didn't do what I asked (for the second time) and paid for at all. I paid over $500 including tip and it looks as though I barely had anything done. I won't be going back either because she really rubbed me the wrong way. During our brief casual conversation while getting my gair done, I noticed she would always make faces when I would respond. It was really quite rude and offensive. Unfortunately I will need to find another hair salon and stylist, I wouldn't return even if it was free. read more

I came here to Elisa for a hair cut and left super duper happy! my whole experience was wonderful with her! from the moment she greeted me and took me back to wash my hair, then back to her chair for my hair cut. she asked what I wanted and very carefully showed me what she was doing based off of my request and made sure to tell me at any point if I'm not happy with it to let her know. Not only is her personality WONDERFUL, but she did such an amazing job on my hair that I told her I was going to bring my daughter to her, which I did. My daughter is 13 and wanted to go to her first day of 8th grade looking and feeling great. So thats why I brought my daughter to Elisa! My baby girl left feeling great and said that her hair cut was better than she even imagined. she kept checking herself out in the mirror and felt SUPER CONFIDENT! $300 on virgin hair for these "highlights" which I had asked to be chocolate brown - I was embarrassed to even go outside and had to have them fixed by another salon not even 2 weeks later. This other salon also explained that the person at onyx could've just "lifted" color off of my hair instead of dying it all one color and bleaching random pieces - bleaching would not have been required for my desired look. read more

I first went to Adriana with stubborn grey roots and overly-yellow highlights. I told Adriana I was looking for something more natural looking, and she perfectly delivered on what I was looking for. Adriana cut my hair, dyed my roots and recommended a stunning light brown color with soft highlights. I've walked by this salon so many times but never visited until now. I haven't had a haircut in months and ever since this pandemic happened, that haircut appt was put on hold. I was so glad to be able to finally get a haircut here after almost a year. I booked an appointment with Kristina Estrada. They take your temperature upon check-in, have you sign a waiver and provide sanitizer. Masks are required for both stylist and clients. I felt very safe there. Kris was incredibly friendly and easy to work with. I asked for a quick trim and was in and out of there within 45 minutes. This was perfect cause my mom and kids waited for me while I getting my haircut. I loved my cut and picked up a few hair products on my way out. Highly recommend and I will be back to schedule a color with Kris. read more

Went in for a haircut and walked out with uneven hair. The best part of my appointment was the wash. Elisa was very sweet but the cut was uneven. She told me she was going to do an A line cut and curtain bangs. My entire cut was uneven and I had to go elsewhere to have it corrected. Typically when I get a cut they will ask how I like my hair styled, she never did. My hair was flat and stuck to my head and I did specifically mention I did not like my hair straight. I know she is just starting out but I paid over 100.00 for something I had to have someone else fix. Will not go back. read more

This review is way over due! Christina did an amazing job with my hair and I'm absolutely loving it! I first went to her in April 2019 for my 60th birthday. I told her that I wanted to transition to my natural gray. In that appointment she listened to my goal. We agreed to go with the whole package of stripping out all my old colors that were both salon jobs and box colors. It was an amazing job. Unfortunately I didn't take pictures. But, trust me it was incredible. My second appointment was a few months later, unfortunately Onyx salon was hacked and all data was deleted. She did something different from my first appointment. She had me go blondes with dark roots. Pictures here. I loved it and my friends and family loved. My third appointment today we backtracked to my initial goal to transition to my natural gray, if I choose that path. Here is my picture of the end results which I totally love! Christina Perez is a YES in my book. Hair coloring on point, though she does it all. Her technique is magic. You want a melt, a blend, balayage, highlights, over all, root touch... whatever just know its awesome. I like to color my hair and put it through a lot. After seeing christina for color I noticed even with some bleaching and blonde I had less breakage. Not sure what products she uses but my hair agrees.
