I'm not one to post, especially negative reviews for small businesses, but I felt compelled to make this post. I've been going to Shear Magic for over 15 years. I love all the stylists, especially Angelo, but not sure what happened to this salon?! The last few times I've gone, there was someone sleeping on the bench barefooted (whom I believe may be one of the staff). I could see him through the mirror the entire time. That's just unacceptable. You go to a salon to have a good experience, not to see things like this. Next time I go in for my hair color and he's sleeping there, I will take pictures and will post online. I really hope this gets addressed so me/any other clients don't have to see this. It's strange. This is Burlingame, and us customers have high expectations. read more

Salina cut my hair at Sheer Magic and she did a great job. I have lots of hair, but also some tricky waves. She nailed it and I'll definitely go back again. Obviously great at men's cuts. Her prices are very reasonable as well, and she's new at that shop. I found parking easy across CA Street, just north of the train station near the doughnut shop. Another glowing review for Vicky :) I was referred by a coworker to see Vicky at Shear Magic. I was looking for a place close to home that could be a go-to place, since I've had problems keeping stylists consistent. I came for a consultation 2 weeks prior to making a formal appointment to check the place out. Vicky is very friendly and professional. We went over colors and cut styles that I was looking to achieve. Vicky is very knowledgeable and offered her recommendations. Day of my appointment she called to see if I could come in a little earlier than my scheduled time. I was free, so I happily came by. Came out to a fresh cut and color. Free bang trim on my next visit :) Didn't get any of that "pushing products" that I get with other salons. She merely suggested going to Target or Safeway to buy color protecting shampoo. I do that anyways, but was glad not to feel any pressure to buy anything fancy for haircare. Definitely recommended. Be sure to make an appointment! read more

I really hate to write this review but I really didn't like how my hair turned out. I asked for blonde balayage and showed my hairdresser a pic. Everything looked great when she curled my hair, but once I washed my hair I noticed that the colors didn't gradually mix into the blonde. You can see sections of where it was brown and where it was blonde. Very disappointing and kind of pricey how much they charged me. read more

Shear Magic is a pretty basic, no frills salon with a well-priced cut. At only $40 a cut, you don't mind the outdated decor of the salon. I had my hair cut by Vicky and she was very friendly and converational. I wanted my hair cut in long layers and Vicky did a nice job freshening up my locks. My only criticism is that it was quite a bit shorter than I had asked for (especially once it dried) and she apologized for it. The cut was cute, but it barely grazed my shoulders and I would've liked if she kept the overall length an inch or 2 longer. I have my birthday weekend next week, so it was a risk to cut my hair, but in a month of so, it should be fine. Not a bad salon for a lower priced cut, just be specific and clear about your hair length (err on the side of caution!). read more

This review is for Vicky! This has been one of those reviews that should have been done months ago; but better late than never. Anyway, I go to Vicky to get my hair cut and colored. She always takes her time and allocates enough space in her schedule to do a thorough job. I always walk away feeling like she did exactly as I had hoped. This last time, I asked for a darker than usual brown tone, and she made honest suggestions that were much appreciated. The salon is close to the Burlingame Caltrain station (California and Burlingame Avenue). Parking is easy and she is always very flexible with my appointments. So if you saw my hair in all its glory, you wouldn't think I was Filipino. My hair is big, coarse, and thick. Far from straight. With big waves. It frizzes out in all directions when it's humid, but will behave if and only IF cut by Vivian. I've been fortunate enough to have met Vivian a little over a year ago, and she has been the only one to know how to deal with my crazy hair. She cuts and colors it just right, and is honest about her opinions about whether the color might be too light for my complexion. She knows how to cut it just enough to frame and flatter my round face. Just a trim? She has that down. Just three inches? She will listen. If you're looking for someone intuitive and skilled with her scissors, she's my number one recommendation! read more

I called last minute to make an appointment for my hair cut and Danielle was able to get me in. It was my first visit to Shear Magic so I brought in pictures of what I was interested in. Danielle listened to what I was looking for, asked some questions and made some suggestions and totally exceeded my expectations. She took the time to cut my hair just how I wanted and made sure that it was just right. My hair gets an annoying curl to it as it dries and Danielle took extra time to work with the curl and get the cut just right. Danielle took time to explain how to style my hair and apply product based on my hair type. I had a great time chatting with her and my hair came out so great, I could not be happier. I would absolutely recommend Danielle Noe to my girlfriends, she did a great job! I will be going back for sure! read more

Went through a couple of hair dressers and was pleased but never thrilled. I found Lorainne again and I am thrilled! I have long, very thin hair and she knows how to cut the layers unlike anybody who has done layers on my hair before. When I say just the ends, she only takes off the ends...no additional length lost. I also do a basic all around color, but the shade always comes out perfectly. I have been a customer of Vickie's for a very long time. So long in fact that she had done my hair for my high school prom junior year. Yes, I am a regular. I am an adventurous person who changes her hair color and cut quite often and it usually begins with a phone call along the lines of "I'm bored... Let's do something fun." And each time, Vickie comes through! I've been blond, auburn, dark chocolate, and everything in between and Vickie has done a phenomenal job on everything. Not to say that there haven't been mess-ups, especially with my hair that tends to pull a lot of red, but Vickie has always taken the time to fix it and make sure that I walk out of that salon turning heads. She is incredibly accommodating of my ridiculously hectic schedule (although I always try to schedule a week or two in advance especially if I have an event coming up), her prices are fabulous for the kind of service that she gives, and it's a pleasure to be around her. She always remembers the little details and tries to put a personal touch on every client. Although I haven't had much experience with the other stylists, they are always pleasant and friendly whenever I'm there and are always ready to weigh in with an opinion. When I first got my hair cut with Lorraine, I was very nervous because I had never been to a salon. 20 years ago my hair was very long to my thighs. I have been going to Vicky for my haircuts & highlights...she does a great job & I always get a lot of compliments on my hair after. I made the mistake of going to CSM to get my hair colored & cut to save money, but that was a huge regret. I called Vicky in a panic to see if she could squeeze me in to fix the color. Her schedule was very full, but she knew how desperate I was, so she made a point of getting me in. She gave me partial lowlights and fixed my bleached out hair... Just moved to Burlingame and got a referral to go to Vickie at Shear Magic. I was hesitant to try a new hair dresser since i had been going to a prior girl for 10 yrs. I had an appointment to get my hair hi lighted and cut. I usually only cut a half inch from the bottom with layers. With the high lights, she used 3 different colors: blonde, dark blonde and Carmel. Writing about Vicky!! I am the type of guy who has to trust someone with my hair. After telling Vicky for about 15min how I want my haircut and how it takes a special person to cut my hair who know what there doing. I let her cut my hair. That same day I went out with my Girl friend and the first thing she told me was Who cut your hair!! I like it. You dont look like someone stuck in the 80's anymore.
