Aimee is amazing! My skin was glowing and my makeup and hair held up through the entire night. As a personal tip, I got a balayage before the wedding and it helps bring out the color and dimension so much more. Finally getting around to writing this long overdue review! I got married back in June and hired Aimee for my wedding. Initially, I thought she was too expensive for me but then I realized that the Bay Area is just expensive for everything haha. In the end, the care and thoughtfulness Aimee put into my wedding day was so worth the price. I first got my hair and make up done by Aimee at the trial, which I then went to my engagement shoot with. Aimee is seriously the sweetest person ever! She takes her time with you to really get to know you and understand what you like/dislike. Before the trial, she asked me to send her photos of myself and inspo pictures as well as had me answer some questions about my tastes so she could be prepared. She is definitely skilled at creating that natural make up look but I told her that I wanted a little more dramatic on the eyes and she nailed it. I loved both my hair and make up! And anytime before the wedding if I had questions about anything, she would quickly answer and help me as much as she could. This review is for my bridal hair & makeup. Let me start by saying I consider myself to be pretty adept at doing my own makeup, having trained myself in my teens to apply fake lashes for pageants, to experimenting with professional makeup now every day for work. I know what looks good on my facial features from experience. So when I booked Aimee for my wedding day, my expectations were set very high and I had a natural tinge of doubt that she would be able to "know" my face as well as I did. Well, Aimee erased ALL doubt during my final trial session, and exceeded my expectations on the actual wedding day. Aimee has a natural eye for what looks good, regardless of your ethnicity. That is extremely unique. Most artists who are great doing Caucasian features have 0 skills doing an Asian person's face, and vice versa. Throw in a wrench and give them an Asian face with not-so-Asian features and they have no idea what to do. This was the last thing I wanted to be worrying about on the most heavily-photographed day of my life. With Aimee, I just chilled out in the morning while she worked on me since she had nailed my trial session. Aimee made me feel relaxed and radiant on my big day by giving me a look that was more intense and dramatic than my daily makeup, but still very "me." She and I actually worked together on my hair to create a totally unique updo I envisioned and could find no pictures on Pinterest for (Unbelievable, huh?) The creative process was so fun because Aimee is super patient and eager to make it 100% perfect. She's also a no-nonsense expert and will tell you straight up if something doesn't look good. Aimee did such an amazing job with my hair and makeup for my wedding, it only made sense that I return to whom I trust for my Encore Session AND boudoir session. My hubby and I decided to do an Encore session since I was recovering from a fractured ankle on our actual wedding day. I wasn't very mobile so we didn't have many couple portraits with the natural backdrop of rolling hills and trees that I so wanted. I found Aimee through a combination of social media and recommendation from an old colleague. Her prices, while on the higher end, were still within reason and competitive with the rates I received from other vendors. Since hair and makeup plays such a big role on the wedding day, we felt that this would be well worth it given Aimee's body of work, and the fact that we would be booking the team for myself, my bridesmaids, and our Moms. The package I booked included a hair and makeup trial with Aimee. I told Aimee I wanted to look like myself, but a more done up and glamorous version. I had had some bad experiences at makeup counters previously who didn't know how to do makeup for Asian eyes. Aimee ended up doing eyeliner, false lashes, and eyeshadow - things that I feel never look good on me, but somehow Aimee made it look so natural and beautiful in test photos! I only wish I was paying more attention to what she was doing. What I appreciated most about Aimee was her demeanor. Planning a wedding, and especially the wedding day itself, can be extremely stressful and chaotic. Aimee was very calm and relaxing. She really put me at ease and gave me a moment to sit in the hair and makeup chair and just breathe and take it all in. While she was still socializing, she was very focused and respectful of our timelines to make sure that everyone's look could be completed to their satisfaction and with time to spare for photos. Demi and Grace were also so patient and kind with juggling my bridesmaids' and Moms' preferences. Everyone ended up looking so beautiful! Even though I was emotional and it was particularly windy during the ceremony, my makeup didn't run and my curls and half-up/half-down hairstyle stayed in place. I engaged with a handful of different makeup artists for my two wedding celebrations and Aimee was, by far, my absolute favorite. She's really fun, sweet, friendly, professional, and personable. She's not just a makeup/hair artist but a passionate one and her work truly speaks volumes to that. She has an such eye for detail, even the tiniest littlest ones, that you KNOW she wants you to not only look your best and also FEEL your best and that's so crucial on the big day. Sometimes the email responses were a little slow but with a follow up, there was always a response. When she's in the room with you doing a trial or your day of, she is there 110%. She's always on time if not early. Was never late and that's a quality I really value (especially on such important days!). My makeup and hair were flawless on the day of, seriously. After 10+ hours of wear including some perspiration due to the warm weather, all the hugs and kisses and guests literally putting their face to mine, everything still looked PERFECT! Not joking. So many guests asked me who had done my makeup and hair. Aimee is the best. I wish I could have another wedding but only so that I could have her do my makeup and hair again, haha! Also, don't be turned off by her pricing. At first, I was like "this is way too much, I'd never spend this much.." but Aimee is more than worth it. I've now tried a handful of other makeup artists in addition to Aimee and can confidently recommend you NOT waste your time with other trials (they do add up!) and if Aimee's style is what you're looking for, just book a trial with her already! I think your response speaks to your lack of business communication skills. The fact that you can't accept an honest, albeit negative review, shows you're not willing to work on your weaknesses. You wrote me a long email right after I wrote my first review saying how you had many personal problems at that time, and that is understandable, but then to try to turn that around and blame the customer for your shortcomings makes me lose all respect for you. And to address the things you said: 1. I knew EXACTLY what look I wanted, and tried many different ways to communicate my vision to you. I think that is part of the makeup artist's job to create the look from the vision, and you were not able to do that. 2. You charged me $150, AND I gave you $20 tip for the extra ONE hour past the THREE you said it would take, so that brings the total to $170, NOT $75. Be honest. read more

So finally, below is my review for Aimee :) Homework: I was really excited when I found Aimee on Yelp! I had trouble finding an artist that can do a great job on Asian faces and keeping it modern and fun at the same time. I clicked on her website as soon as I read Aimee's reviews and was pleasantly surprised with beautiful before and after photos! I loved that her portfolio was categorized! It made it easy to browse through her work when the galleries are separated by hairstyles, bridal, beauty, and before and after. Previous Experience: I was a little anxious to set up a makeup trail with her, since it was almost February when I contacted her. I also had a very BAD experience with ANOTHER makeup and hair artist. It was partially my fault that I didn't know what I wanted, but I brought in pictures of styles I liked for the other artist to create a look for me. The other artist made me look as if I did the makeup myself, and my hair was a disaster. Trail with Aimee: Needless to say, I was crossing my fingers and hoping the best with Aimee. And YES it was! I really studied Aimee's portfolio and pointed out the hairstyles I liked and told her I wanted a smokey eye, but looking fresh and beautiful. I also brought some pictures of hairstyles with me so she had a sense of what my style was. Aimee did a fabulous job, and I knew she was going to be my GAL! I'm was looking for a Makeup artist for my wedding. I went to one trial prior to going to Aimee. The lady told me to bring in magazines for the look I wanted. I brought in the magazines, but the lady didn't even look at them well and she did my makeup quite quickly in 1/2 an hour and off I went. So I went back on Yelp to look for someone else. Actually there are not that many makeup people on yelp. I found Aimee on yelp and she had a cool website, and good reviews. She quickly responded to all my emails even at 1am in the morning! Went for the trial and Aimee was so nice an personable. She took the time to listen and understand the client. I was very happy with the look, not too overdone, which is what I wanted. On my wedding day she showed up very promptly at 5:30am in the morning! Did a great job and was very professional. I would not hesitate to recommend her. Once I got her price quote and availability, I decided to book her accordingly to the raves on Yelp. She did not disappoint. During the planning process, her email correspondence had short turnaround time. She even asked for a photo prior so that she can see what kind of skin tone I have to pack accordingly. Though she does charge for travel fee, I had no problem paying for it since gas prices are ridiculously high these days and it is reasonable for her to ask for some compensation. On the day of the event, she got her according to the appointment time and brought everything that she needed. We set up shop and quickly went to work. She asked to see the dress I was planning on wearing and suggested the type of look accordingly. However, she was also *very* attentive to my needs, concerns, and desire for a certain look. At one point, we even brought out some fashion magazines just to get a visual. Throughout the process, she was very attentive to how I felt about the makeup and colors. And ultimately, when I had changed my mind about my hairstyle, she happily obliged and quickly changed the hair.
