I hired Joyce for my own wedding after I had my hair & makeup done by her when I was in a friend's wedding. Joyce is very professional and I absolutely love her work. Our photographers referred 3 make-up/hair artist to us, among which, we decided to book with Joyce because her style is the most natural/authentic, and we were absolutely right! I don't know how she is able to do this magic, but after 3 hours of her finger dancing on your face & hair, you just look sooooooo nice, but also soooo true to yourself. You won't look like another person - which is my biggest fear ('looking nice but not like myself'). Instead, you will be the best version of yourself! The hair&make-up should be there to make YOU stand out rather than TO stand out. And Joyce knows how to do exactly that - when someone looks at you or your photos, what they notice is not that you've put on a lot of make-up or have hair style that's 'too much'. Instead, what they'll say is 'YOU look really nice!!!' and that's what you want :D Joyce is a really meticulous person and she really cares about what she does. You can see it through the way she does hair&makeup. She will adjust every little detail to make sure it 'look exactly right'. Towards the end of my session, she was doing the loose hair at the front, and she spent a loooong time making sure their positions/orientation are exactly right. Given that it's been a year since the trial session and the actual photo shoot, it is really impressive. Especially given that I gave very very vague instructions - I basically sent her a photo and asked 'can I look more like this' and she delivered exactly what I wanted!!! My husband and I left in a hurry for the photo shoot since we were running late, and we forgot to bring the flowers, and she not only brought it to us but also made it into a nice bouquet by wrapping them in one of the stems and making a knot - so smart! :D (because I forgot to buy ribbons, ugh...) I've had professional makeup done several times. Every other time I looked stunning except this wedding makeup with Joyce. She didn't even trim my eyebrows until I asked her to. There was a color gap between my face and my hairline that I had to ask her to fix. I showed up at the wedding venue after getting my makeup done. My friend asked if I did the makeup myself. (I don't wear makeup or am any good at doing it at all, and all my friends know it). My hair came loose before the ceremony even started. In all my wedding ceremony photos my hair looked like someone casually tied them together. The whole wedding I was walking around with a bunch of hair sticking out onto my neck. Photo attached. I don't want to add any photos with faces for privacy reasons, but the makeup was a failure as far as I can see. Just two months ago we did a makeup and indoor photoshoot session with another makeup artist. It was absolutely stunning. This low rating is not for Joyce's hair/makeup skills, but for her handling of her business with me as a bride during this pandemic. I booked Joyce for an 8-hour hair/makeup bridal package of bride & 2 mothers for what would have been my wedding banquet reception. I paid a 50% deposit (~$700) with Joyce last year. By June 2020, my fiance and I knew we would have to adjust our plans as a 400 guest wedding banquet reception would not be happening during this COVID-19 pandemic. I reached out to Joyce who stated if I wanted to postpone my wedding, then it would be a 10% price increase if moved to May-Oct 2021. If I did not let her know the new date by July, then it would be $300 extra for whatever date I choose. I understood these measures were put in place to sustain her business. Knowing that my deposit was non-refundable, I asked Joyce if she could still perform some type of service with my $700 deposit, if we did a smaller event like a tea ceremony on our original date. She agreed and said the price for that could be adjusted (since no longer an 8- hour package) and the remaining balance (of my original $1400 wedding package) could be saved "as a credit". I agreed to this, thinking that I would still have a wedding postponed later to apply this credit to. However, as the pandemic continued, my fiance and I decided to cancel our wedding altogether and our families did not feel comfortable hosting a tea ceremony either. I asked Joyce if she could just do make-up for me alone so that my fiance and I can do a photoshoot. She agreed, but stated the remainder amount I should pay on that day should be $700. I was surprised, because I had already paid a $700 deposit that should have more than enough covered for makeup for a photoshoot instead of my wedding package. I expressed this concern in my email, in which she replied that I had previously agreed to a "credit" and so I should pay the remainder balance of my original 8-hour wedding package. This did not make sense to me, as the service that would be performed would no longer be 8 hours for a bride + 2 mothers. It would only just be makeup for me. I explained to Joyce I do not agree with this business practice of paying in advance for services that will NOT be rendered and for the remaining amount to be saved as a "credit". After what may be miscommunication and overall felt like poor customer service, I told Joyce that I would not like to proceed with receiving any services from her and to cancel our contract. It would not have sit well with me to know on what would have been my original wedding day, to pay an additional $700 on top of my original $700 deposit, just for it to be saved as a "credit". Joyce did reach out to me to say the "credit" could be non-expirable and can be transferred to friends/family. But I would not recommend Joyce to any of my friends or family. TLDR; Original bridal package was $1400 with a $700 deposit paid. After lots of back and forth, Joyce wanted to charge me the entire amount regardless of what service I chose after my wedding was cancelled. She wanted to keep the extra money as "credit" for future services. I chose to cancel the contract and lost my $700 deposit to her. read more

I did my bridal makeup and hair trial with her, and decided to lock her down as my wedding makeup and hair artist! During the trial, she was very detail-oriented and gave me suggestions on styles that would suit my face and head shape. Also she gave me tips on taking care of my skin before the wedding. She was very responsive and patient when I texted her questions related to wedding logistics. On the wedding day, Joyce and her assistant Pace came 10 minutes early and started working right away. My mom, mom-in-law and MOH all loved their makeup and hair. Joyce and Pace are both attentive to details. My mom was concerned about a small wound/scar on her lip, and Joyce assured her that it's okay and applied non-irritant products with great coverage on her lips. I didn't even notice the wound on my mom's lips at all! I'd especially want to recognize Joyce for doing beyond her job - she noticed that my videographer wanted to take more shots, so she stayed behind to reapply makeup for me and made sure all everything was okay. Her assistant did make-up and hair for my four bridesmaids. Joyce's makeup style is natural --- you definitely won't look like you had your face painted with thick foundation. She applied several very thin layers of primer, foundation, and concealer, which made my skin look natural and beautiful. She fixes the blemishes one by one in small pieces. She also applies fake lashes in small pieces instead of a whole strip, which also makes up the natural look. She has good taste in color and picked nice colors that complimented my skin tone. She followed me throughout the day to fix my make up and hair here and there so that I look perfect until the end of the night. Joyce's hair styling is also really amazing. I tried three looks with her, one with hair down, one with a low bun and one with an updo. All of them looked gorgeous. She is very detail-oriented, literally arranging my hair strand by strand.
