First of all, Lydia is very nice, easy to get along with, and friendly! Here are the details: -I appreciate that she tested her products on my hydrated skin, decided the products weren't mixing well, and asked me to wash my face so she could apply a hydrating serum that she knew would go well with her products! -Lydia asked to see the photographer's portfolio because she wanted to match the makeup style with the photography style (aka warm toned, etc) -Makeup is very heavy in person, which made me feel insecure/shy (I'm not used to makeup), BUT I understand this type of makeup is necessary for photo shoots and Lydia DELIVERED. The makeup looks great in the photos and doesn't look heavy at all! It looks very natural! -Lydia applied one set of false eyelashes, decided she didn't like them, and applied a new set! It was nice that she was willing to waste a pair of eyelashes if they did not fit her artistic vision -Eyebrows: not a fan of how they were extended to look longer. Face front, it looks fine, but from the side/profile view, I think it looks a bit goofy. I didn't have a mirror in front of me during the process so I wasn't sure how it was going. I think having a mirror or regular checks would've been helpful for me so I could express what I liked/wanted more. This isn't Lydia's fault; my space didn't have a mirror and I didn't ask to go look into the mirror. I think if I communicated my own tastes/style preferences more, I would've been more satisfied with the overall look. -Crunching for time: Lydia let me know she would be around 30 minutes late, so I pushed back the photography session 30mins too. However, I don't think we had enough time because at the end, we did a very quick pulled back hairstyle and it was not my favorite, but I felt that we didn't have enough time to redo it. However, the hair was done in less than 10 minutes and still looks good in the photographs, so even though I didn't give any input on the hairstyle, I just placed my trust in Lydia and it worked out! Additionally, I have wavy hair, so I let Lydia know I was concerned about the hair coming out of place, and girl sprayed me down with hairspray. The style stayed in place the entire shoot! Lydia did my hair and makeup for both my trial/engagement shoot and wedding! I had a great experience on both days with her - she's easy to talk to, brings calm energy, and is open to feedback and collaborating with you! Makeup trial/engagement shoot: Lydia does the makeup trial at your home, which is convenient and relaxing. I prepared a few inspo pics and I appreciated her honest feedback on what she thought would look good and what she thought would bring out my features more (or less). She also wanted to make sure my engagement look was different from my wedding look (which I hadn't even thought of) and intentionally styled my hair differently. She's very easy to talk to and I enjoyed chatting with her. As someone who doesn't wear makeup often, I was curious and asked her a lot of questions along the way and she was very easygoing and explained what she was doing. I scheduled my engagement photos the same day as my makeup trial, but the week of the shoot it was very cold and our photographer recommended pushing it out by a week. Lydia was really accommodating and allowed me to reschedule the makeup trial on short notice. It was still super windy the day we took photos, but my makeup and hair held up (as much as it could!). Wedding: Lydia showed up on time (so important for starting the day right!) and brought the calm presence I needed to start the day. I appreciate that she spends a lot of time applying skincare to your face before applying foundation. I think that made a huge difference in my skin texture and the makeup staying on. I had some feedback on my eyeliner and hair and Lydia was patient in incorporating that in. We ended up running late that day (for various reasons), but Lydia stayed longer to help with finishing touches after I put on my dress. Covering up scratches and scars: The day of the wedding I woke up with scratches on my neck (I think a byproduct of a slight allergic reaction) and Lydia helped cover it up so it wouldn't show up in pictures, but also not look too caked on in person. A few months prior, I had also burned my wrist and it left a scar. Lydia was able to conceal it so it wouldn't show up in photos - really appreciated her work on both my neck and wrist! Good to know: I've been to weddings where the makeup artists gave us touch-up kits, so I asked Lydia for one but she explained that with the setting spray, touching it up would impact the makeup. While I was a little worried it wouldn't hold if I cried, she was right! My makeup stayed (despite me tearing up multiple times). I would recommend brides preparing a lip gloss or lipstick you can use for touch-ups through the night though. Lydia was professional, friendly, and very honest about my chosen options & expectations. She took a look at my photos, my dress, and made them work wonderfully together. Both my trial & wedding makeup were wonderful! Despite all the running around and sweating, my hair & makeup made it through the night with amazing longevity. As a reference point - Prior to booking and especially in the height of wedding season, she did answer her emails in about a 5-6 day turnaround. However as my trial and wedding day arrived, Lydia was always on top of communication with same day to 1 day turnaround. Unfortunately, while Lydia was fantastic, her assistant Lynn wasn't quite on her A-game that day. Two members of my bridal party were struggling with their appearance the day of. The biggest issue we faced was the hair. Two had both shown Lynn photos of what they'd like their hair to be and the results left much to be desired. One of them even sensed the struggle Lynn had while trying to attempt the style they chose and offered to pick something more simple, but Lynn said she would be able to do it. My maid of honor, who had gone first in the day, really didn't want to kick a fuss but the more she stared at herself, the more terrible she felt. Her hair was a 2/10 in terms of what she wanted & had shown and her eyeliner was crooked. She's the one I felt the most terrible for in all of this. We had hoped Lydia would be able to fix them but time was running out for all parties. Lydia did try to comfort my MoH and had Lynn fix them both. Lynn's second attempts for each were much better and eyeliner was corrected. The elastic bands & bobby pins were not completely hidden though. Ultimately, I really commend Lydia & Lynn for getting through 7 women's & 1 men's styling in one full morning & afternoon. I know it was very tough and they even worked through their scheduled lunch break provided in the timeline. Lydia was amazing to work with as a bride. I found Lydia on instagram and was so immensely glad I did!! I chose her for my wedding which just happened a week ago and I actually did my trial only a few days before my wedding since I'm not local to the Bay Area normally. She is incredibly meticulous in her work, and it is amazing that she actually values taking the time for skincare prep of your face before make up application to help ensure your make up sits well on the skin. This is particularly important for people like me with incredibly dry face skin even when I do my normal skincare and moisturize, so the fact she told me to wash my face right before starting and then proceeds to apply skincare very thoroughly on my face before starting the make up part made me feel good that she understands the needs of people with crusty dry faces! The trial and day of wedding make up she spends 3hrs a session for hair+make up to ensure there is plenty of time to do everything carefully which I love. During the trial day she did the first pass of hair and make up based on some reference photos I had. It was beautiful but I gave her some personal opinions on how it seemed to sit a little dry/caked after a few hours (due to my abnormally dry skin compared to the average person), my preference for a slightly more "Korean" style eye makeup with less dense lashes, and to slightly revise how my bun was tied in the back. She really took all my feedback and made the perfect adjustments for the skin prep, eye make up, and hair on the day of the wedding that matched exactly how I was hoping it'd look and my skin didn't look dry anymore for the whole day. I would say if you have no clue what you want for your face, then just let her work her magic. But if you have specific preferences and skin concerns let her know in advance and she will make it happen and make sure it's addressed! Also a year before my wedding I told her about my skin sensitivity concerns due to my eczema and she screenshotted all the products she used so I could research the ingredients of each one on my own time which I greatly appreciated as well. Lydia is helpful and has her own ideas, but definitely not pushy about it. Like all artists trying to make you feel like the queen/princess on your day, it definitely helps to browse profiles and even other people's profiles to see what style you're looking for. You provide Lydia with it and she just gets it, or if she has a better idea she will let you know before she works on it. 3 hours is 3 hours, she doesn't cut corners and works every minute (or more if you don't do a trial). I hired Lydia for hair & makeup for my trial session, city hall wedding ceremony, and wedding reception. I normally don't wear makeup on the daily, so I was relieved to find someone who did a "natural" look and knew how to keep my stubbornly straight Asian hair in curls without an entire bottle of hairspray. Lydia achieved all my dreams! I didn't have to know much about makeup or hair--she asked me a few simple questions and created an elevated version of myself that I loved. Lydia made it so easy by traveling to my home to prepare hair and makeup for me and my family. She was communicative through text (although it might take a day or two because she is in high demand! She went way above and beyond my expectations and truly made me feel and look like the best version of myself! I absolutely fell in love with my bridal look and it was all thanks to her. When my face was experiencing a severe allergic reaction/hives due to stress only a couple of months prior to the wedding (cue bride panic mode lol), not only did she provide transparency and flexibility in the products she had originally planned to use and offered to use ones that are better fit for sensitive skin, she also gave me updated recommendations to help prep my skin based on my skin condition. And most importantly of all, she was so understanding, patient, and really listened to my needs. She felt like a good friend I could rely on throughout the entire process, and in the end, she made my skin look the healthiest and it has ever looked! The makeup was also the perfect soft-glam look that I dreamt of and it stayed all day long with very minor touch-ups. Getting Lydia's services out all the way over to my destination wedding was worth every penny! Lydia did a fantastic job with my makeup for my wedding weekend. It was a two day affair, with a Chinese tea ceremony on Saturday and an American wedding on Sunday. She was so thoughtful with styling my look for both days, suggesting stronger dramatic lashes for my red dress on Saturday and romantic fanned lashes for Sunday's lake-in-the-mountains setting. Lydia is also incredibly gentle with the makeup application, never once did I feel poked or prodded!
