I had my trial with her about two weeks before my wedding so we could also have a trial shoot with our photographer. I rarely wear makeup, and I was blown away by how good I looked and felt - like the best version of myself. The makeup also photographed wonderfully. I was in search of a hair and makeup artist a few days out from my maternity photoshoot due to some last minute schedule changes and Jennifer was super accessible and professional from the initial reach out. Once I arrived and met her in person, it was as if we had met before - she is approachable, friendly, and makes you feel like an old friend. I booked Jennifer from JT Artistry for my SF City Hall wedding. My experience was great from the start. I live about 400 miles from where my wedding was taking place, so I was worried about how a trial run would work. We emailed back and forth discussing inspiration pictures, my dress, etc. She had mentioned having plenty of out of town brides and that the trial wasn't 100% necessary, but my nerves got the best of me, so I just booked a mid-week turn-around trip and scheduled the trial. I'm SO glad I did. My trial appointment was for 11am, and by late afternoon I realized the liquid makeup wasn't going to cooperate with my ridiculously oily skin. Plus, it just felt a little heavier than I was hoping for. I let her know all of my concerns once I'd gotten back home. When I first looked through pictures of Jen's work on Instagram, I knew I wanted her to do my makeup and hair for my wedding! Jen is also the sweetest. I sent her a couple of pictures/inspirations of styles that I liked and also mentioned some of my concerns: my hair lacks volume, my hair doesn't hold curls too well for too long, my face gets oily throughout the day, not a fan of heavy makeup but still wanted it to show through photos. I was asked to take a few head shot for a consumer marketing position, which required meeting high end clients. The job requires a good face, and I wanted to be able to compete with a lot of other people. My photographer advised that I reach out to JT Artistry. I contacted JT Artistry and spoke to Jen Toy. We set up a time and met at the shoot. Hours before the shoot, I had met the owner of JT Artistry, Jen. Jen asked me questions on what kind of look I was going for, or what I'd be comfortable doing. I'm a guy. The type that has no idea about make up, technique, or shades of complexion. I'm not a professional model. Jen was able to translate everything such as techniques and phrases used from the industry superstars into something that I can understand. I just told her I wanted a natural look, and that I wanted to do anything as long as it wasn't outside of my comfort zone. She was very sincere and precise when profiling what kind of look I was going for, and what the photographer wanted to capture. She was gentle, and took me through each step of the process. The best part is that she made sure I would be comfortable with what she was doing to my face. I feel someone who cares about the people she's working with or for has an amazing amount of patience, commitment, and team work. I was pretty anxious, because this was the first time I've tried anything like this. The result... WOW. I felt all my impurities became smoothed out, and everything looked natural. I actually had a crowd of people gathering around me in excitement, probably from me being nervous about the whole thing, but they also really liked how the light reflected on my newly and evenly, toned complexion. I felt really good about the way I looked. Everything turned out great, but Jen's ability to guide and consult me through the process really diminished the stigma of getting your make up done (for a guy)! Her consultation is very professional, and she is very caring. Her work is great. After this shoot, I had worked with a few make up artists that didn't really try to go with what I was looking for. And then I found Jenn. From our first interaction, I was blown away by Jenn's professionalism. I emailed her about 15 questions, and she sent me a very thorough reply about 15 minutes later. She asked me questions about my dress and my vision for hair/makeup. She responded promptly and thoroughly to all of my emails and answered every single question I had. When we met for my trial, Jen had just gotten married herself. She is super easy to talk to and very relatable. She was familiar with the looks I had in mind (hello, Pinterest) and completed my makeup with ease. When I pointed out a few things that I'd like to do differently, she didn't take it personally at all and made adjustments to suit my preferences. On the wedding day, she and her crew showed up right on time. They did hair and makeup for a variety of age ranges (20s - 60s), races (white, mixed, and Asian), and hair textures (straight, curly, fine, and thick). Jennifer did my makeup for my wedding day and I have to say I not only had the most magical wedding but also felt like the most beautiful bride! Before the wedding day, Jennifer met up with me to figure out the best look for the big day. She took time to hear to my preferences and really listened. Jen was a huge component of making my wedding day perfect. First off, I really am a makeup n00b, so the thought of wearing a lot of it on my wedding day was always a little scary because I wanted to look natural, not totally glammed up. Second, being a women of color is kinda hard when it comes to wedding stuff. We are hugely underrepresented in the industry, therefore its difficult to find beauty providers that understand our different skin types and needs. Ok, I never post multiple reviews but just had to for Jennifer and JT Artistry. Jennifer did makeup for my wife and her bridesmaids at our wedding. Over a year later, I am best man in another wedding and guess who is doing the makeup and hair for the bride and bridesmaids? Yup, it was Jennifer. It was great to see her and catch up with her again. Jennifer did a fabulous job again. I can't say enough about how I, and I believe most guys, appreciate having their bride's makeup be complimentary and not clashing or over done. Too often, makeup artists for weddings are so heavy handed. Jennifer really has an eye for customizing makeup looks that really accent each girl's face. Jennifer has mastered her art. She does the makeup very effortlessly. She doesn't think about it. I think it's a sign of her mastery of the techniques and her ability to see the finished product before getting there. The other thing about Jennifer is that she's easy to work with. She just has a very friendly, personable, and gentle way about her. I think it's especially important for brides to like and feel comfortable with the person doing their makeup. She also listens and works with each individual girl. I was surprised, but actually not surprised, to learn that Jennifer does a lot of professional photo shoots with models and films. I guess she worked for some company named MAC before which my wife says is like the Harvard of makeup, or the FBI of law enforcement. I saw some of the photos and although those are more dramatic, I'm really impressed by how she tones it down for weddings. She really knows what effect she needs to pull off. Word of advice to the groom, make sure your bride picks a makeup artist that does a job that you will like. You don't want overly caked-on makeup when you're standing up on the altar saying, "I do". And for brides, make sure you are completely confident and happy with the makeup artist way before the wedding. Do those trials prior to the wedding to be sure that the makeup artist knows what you want. Makeup artists are like photographers, there are so many amateurs out there; make sure you pick a good one. You definitely should consider Jennifer. She's got such high reviews for a reason. Also, make sure you book her ASAP because her schedule really fills up. I have another friend getting married who was not able to book Jennifer because Jennifer was already booked. Do yourself a favor and book a trial, you brides. Even though our first meeting was the day of the event, Jen has such a personable personality that I never once felt uncomfortable around her. I met Jen on the 18th after having a scheduled shoot with a photographer. She was the assigned makeup artist and let me tell you, she was simply amazing! Super professional and easy to talk to, never have I met a MAC trained makeup artist who does flawless work...until now. I am extremely meticulous when it comes to makeup, and every single time I have it done, I feel like many leave my face lacking in it's full beauty potential, but ladies the search is over. Jen will never fail to make you look your absolute BEST! I then worked with Jen again the following week where we did a natural beauty shoot. Here, is where I saw the true testimony to her makeup. Her expertise in bridal, wedding, and natural makeup will have you looking GORGEOUS! She is extremely precise. She even has hair stylist skills that will make you look effortlessly flawless. Jen is very friendly, professional and does really great work. I had hired her to do hair and make up for both me and my mother for my wedding last Halloween (sorry, this is way overdue). She not only helped me to create a look that made me feel very beautiful on my wedding day, she also made my mom feel glamorous as well (which is no small feat, my mom has been suffering from chronic pain and her self-esteem has taken a dive since she isn't as active as she used to be). Jen did my hair and makeup for my wedding. She also did the hair and makeup for seven of my bridesmaids. We were all really pleased with Jen's amazing demeanor and work. I had one hair and makeup trial, and one additional hair trial because I was unsure how I wanted my hair for the wedding. Jen was super accommodating, and even came my office for one of trials. She is always super professional, and has such a wonderful energy. The day of the wedding is so stressful, so I was extra appreciative of the calmness she brought to the day. I felt like a princess in large part to Jen's amazing work. My makeup was flawless, but I still looked like me. She just knew how to accentuate the good, without making me look unnatural, which is exactly what I wanted. Jen, and her crew of 2 really nice others whose names escape me, did my hair and make-up for my wedding (as well as my 11 bridesmaids, yes 11!). They were on time, super professional, super sweet and REALLY good at what they do! I recently got married in Santa Rosa and Jennifer was my makeup artist. First and foremost, she is THE MOST swift vendor I dealt with during wedding planning. It can get frustrating not hearing back from certain people, and I ask A LOT of questions, but each and every time I reached out to Jennifer, I always got a response almost immediately. So that right there earned her 2 stars :-) The wedding was Saturday, but I was coming from NYC so my trial was actually that Thursday before my wedding. I was extremely nervous about how my skin would react to the makeup because I had been dealing with random acne for a few months (rarity, as my skin has always been clear). Upon meeting Jennifer, I felt very at ease with her and I had done enough research to know that I was in great hands; I love that I still looked like myself once she was done with me. She was talkative without being overbearing or annoying (I was probably the one being that, ha ha) and super sweet. I have worked with Jen, corporately and privately, on many occasions and always recommend her to people seeking talented makeup artists. I first met Jen when I hired her for our photo shoots at a clothing design company. She is very easy to work with, sociable, and professional. She asks for honest feedback to continue to perfect her skill set and makes sure that her work is in line with your vision. We continued to hire her on as our preferred makeup artist as often as we could. Because her schedule fills up fast, we would lose her to other gigs sometimes so book quick and in advance!! I recently hired her for a wedding that I was coordinating for someone very special to me. Jen was very accommodating while scheduling for a trial session and took her time to listen to the bride's dream wedding makeover. This was also the first time that I hired her to do MY makeup and hair! I'm usually really fussy with makeup and hairstyles because I'm plain (and incapable of producing anything close to presentable). Jen is an amazing artist and a person! What else I can say! I met her at one of the weddings I was shooting and I loved the way she did the make up and hair of my bride. And not only that, she doesn't waste time like some other make up and hair stylists in talking. She works pretty fast and straight to the point. She know what she is doing. She is knowledgeable, creative and fun. She is a great collaborator to work with her on a photo shoot. For a photographer like me who is trying to capture more portraits of the bride by herself before the ceremony I can't wish for more. If the make up artist takes most of the time before the ceremony that means less photos for the bride. I even hired her personally. She did my make-up and hair for my maternity portraits and I recommended her to few of my clients who used her and they were extremely happy with her proficient work and service.
