This is a way overdue review that I've been anxious to write because Susie is absolutely AMAZING! I contacted Susie months before my daughter's wedding about doing her makeup and mine. I was handling all this from across the country and had tons of questions and concerns, which Susie promptly and patiently answered, thoroughly setting my mind at ease. We hired her for hair and makeup for events over 2 days of the wedding weekend. I should mention that my daughter never fusses with hair or makeup and really had little interest in even doing this! She didn't do a trial session and really had no specific ideas about how she even wanted her hair done! I explained all this to Susie ahead of time and she dealt with it beautifully - making suggestions and coming up with the perfect plan for 2 different hair styles for the 2 days and makeup slightly more subdued the first day to see how Alicia liked it. Well, I was stunned - not just at how gorgeous it was - but because Alicia totally LOVED the whole process and the final result!! I attribute all this to Susie's calm, sweet and knowledgeable manner. She explained everything perfectly and her suggestions were spot on- it was obvious that she was a seasoned pro! I wouldn't have thought it possible, but by the second night, Alicia was really into a more dramatic look which was PERFECT! Also, we had some last minute timing issues which Susie was kind enough to accommodate by juggling her own busy schedule. I am absolutely hopeless when it comes to doing my own hair and makeup, so I am beyond grateful that Susie was available to help me look my best for a photo shoot. Not only is she talented, but her personality is also perfect for what she does - friendly, easygoing, and very welcoming. I booked a photoshoot for a photo album as a surprise for my husband on our wedding day. Susie did my hair and makeup for the photoshoot and did an amazing job! I decided to do the photoshoot last minute and needed someone to do my hair and makeup within a few days. Thankfully Susie was incredibly responsive and was able to squeeze me in, even though I needed someone super early in the morning! I had Susie do my hair and makeup for Halloween and it was AMAZING!!!. I couldn't stop gushing about my hair and makeup all night. I have a lot of hair but Susie was super fast and efficient. Normally it would take me about an hour to curl my hair but it took her about 20mins and my hair was as perfect. I really do mean PERFECT curls. I am not usually a person that leaves reviews on yelp; but after my recent experience with Susie for my (semi)permanent eyebrow, I can honestly say that I am absolutely pleased with my decision and have no regrets whatsoever! First off, I have no experience at all with tattoos and was completely nervous when I was considering this procedure. From the beginning, Susie was completely thorough with me when explaining the process and made sure that I was comfortable with the procedure before proceeding (since it is a permanent thing). She explained to me that immediately after the procedure, my eyebrows will darker and more intense than what it'll look like when it is fully healed. I really appreciated her preparing me for the results, so that I wasn't surprised. The procedure itself wasn't as scary as I had initially thought it would be. Susie made sure that I was fully numb in the area before proceeding with the shape that she and I had consulted upon. This is not to say that I didn't feel anything at all, but it was more so the pressure and slight grazing of the blade that I felt. My eyebrow hairs are naturally dark, however, they do grow more sparse in certain areas. What I was looking to get out of this procedure was a natural but more defined looking eyebrow that would go along with my low-maintenance make-up routine. Susie used the hair stroke technique to achieve this goal by tattooing little hair strokes instead of the traditional filling in. Overall I am extremely happy with the results to my procedure. I found Susie on Yelp, and after reading all of the great reviews from previous and current clients, I emailed her. I was co-hosting a New Year's Eve party for ~130 guests at a bar downtown, so I wanted my make-up to be perfect! I contacted Susie just week prior to NYE, asking if she would be available on the day of the party, and she promptly responded. We exchanged several emails following the scheduling of the appointment. I sent her a few photos of the smokey-eye look I was going for. I was a little nervous about getting my makeup done, because I have had it done for weddings/events in the past, but haven't had the most positive experiences... Upon arrival, Susie was very accommodating and friendly, and she walked me through every step of her application of the makeup. After she was done, she made sure that I was comfortable with the look, and we made a few adjustments to fit the exact look that I was going for. I loved the look! We used fake lashes, which I had been wanting to try for a while, but hadn't gotten around to it. She let me know that they would feel a bit heavy and it would take a little while to get used to, and her letting me know that really helped me become comfortable with them on. After an hour or two, I had forgotten they were on! We also chose to use a NARS lipstick that I had brought with me, just because I would be able to reapply throughout the night if needed. The whole appointment took just over an hour - very efficient for the great quality that she provided! All of my friends LOVED the amazing job that Susie did. I had my hair and makeup done by Vinnia as a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding. I came to my appointment with several clear pictures of what I was looking for to make it easy - loose beachy waves with a subtle, bronze smoky eye. My makeup was done first - I understand wedding makeup is done with a heavier hand for the way it photographs, but I ended up with a "smoky" eye that was basically six shades of shadow to my brow, winged liner out to my temples, poorly blended highlight/contour, and fake lashes haphazardly placed. I tried to provide feedback, at which point the heavy winged liner was tightened up slightly, but the work was considered done so that was that. The appointment was close to Union Square, so I actually excused myself from the bridal party and ran down to Neiman Marcus, parked myself at the first available counter and had them attempt to clean up my botched makeup before my hair appointment. All I wanted for my hair were loose waves, which is basically how I wear my hair every day. What I got were randomly placed tight curls like Shirley Temple. When I asked if that was it, she insisted the curls would fall. I told her they wouldn't - I know my hair and the amount of hairspray they applied - but that was it, the appointment was over. All in all, she maybe spent 4 minutes on my hair. I asked to borrow a flat iron so I could smooth out the curls myself, which I did. This wasn't my wedding and this day obv wasn't about me so idgaf how I looked. But after making me look like a drag queen reject and spending 4 minutes curling my hair, I was charged $200 so I was annoyed. I told them they didn't even do my hair. I was told I had to pay anyways. To make matters worse, I was concerned about the products and brushes they were using and ultimately ended up with a rash on my face that persisted for the next month. I love makeup but I am not as practiced with applying or knowledgeable with shades, colours etc that suit me. I am so pleased I decided on a make up artist for my SF City Hall wedding. I would never have applied as much makeup as what Susie did - and this is a good thing! You definitely need it for the photos and the lasting power for a full day. As to Susie, her skill and professionalism is unmatched and I cannot recommend her highly enough. A wedding can be a manic, crazy and emotional day - and the experience of sitting down, listening to the music she provided (based on my preferred genre) and having her work on my face and hair was relaxing. It also gave me an opportunity to consider the day ahead and get excited. Really excited. She worked very efficiently and gave me a 'natural look'. She covered over any imperfections with the airbrushing tool. And to be honest, when I first saw myself with full makeup, I did think it was too much. However, I do know she consulted with my photographer to understand her lighting etc and the photos tell a different story. It was perfect. She even worked with me to create a more dramatic false eyelash look - which I preferred. My hair exceeded my expectations - and she was so quick. I have a lot of hair and it had staying power all day. I also had Susie do my mom's hair. She was so sweet and my mom looked the best she has done in years. I only wish we lived closer to San Fran so she could do her hair again (and my makeup/hair for that matter). If you have a special date night, an important work event or a wedding - I really recommend Susie's services. My wedding day came and went. It was an absolutely incredible day and Susie was instrumental in getting my big day off on the RIGHT foot! I know I raved about Susie after working with her for my engagement photos, where she gave me bouncy sexy hair and beautiful make-up. Well, my love for Susie only grew after going for my wedding trial AND of course, my Big Day. During my wedding trial, Susie was equally attentive, focused, and produced high quality work, just as she did for my engagement session. Prior to beginning, she sat with me for a good 15 minutes to discuss what looks resonate with me, how I liked my hair/ makeup, if I wanted to look more natural or dramatic, what concerns I had, etc. She even brought up questions I failed to think of! I knew I wanted a chignon look, and after showing Susie some Pinterest photos, she quickly went to work with her curler and comb. Not before long, she produced a couple of variations of chignon looks, one more formal, and another looser, more fun one. Both were beautiful but I choose to go with the looser look. Susie also suggested to go heavier on my eyes since I have monolids and really wanted my eyes more accentuated, without looking too crazy or fake, of course. Susie masterfully applied falsies ever so gently, and the resulting look was huge eyes!! For me anyway. And I loved the look! I had brought my hair comb accessory and veil and Susie even went over the placements so I could get a picture of how exactly I would look on my wedding day. It provided an extreme sense of relief, which was much needed because, well.. my mind was all over a million things at that time (a week before the wedding). Fast forward to my wedding day. I chose to have a SF City Hall wedding, and Susie arrived promptly at the Bed & Breakfast I was staying at before the crack of dawn. She quickly utilized the hotel room and set up her workstation and immediately began to work her magic on me. It was still pitch black outside!! As a bride on her wedding day, surely I was feeling so many emotions and thinking about last minute details, hoping the day unveils just as you've been planning for. Well, Susie was a force of calm and reassurance. She pampered me and for a few moments, my mind dropped everything and I just exhaled and enjoyed the moments. That was great that I could feel so relaxed and trusting in Susie. Susie finished my look with time to spare and also gave my mom a natural, more refreshed look. Susie is an expert at what she does, and is not only extremely skilled, but also super friendly and professional! I got my permanent eyebrows done by her, and she told me exactly what I should be expecting and what the process would be like. I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into other than the fact that I just wanted to GIT IT DONE! She helped me decide what procedure I should get and what color I should go for, and shape, etc. And made sure to let me see myself in the mirror during the process to make sure I was happy with what I was seeing. I was doing my search for hairstylists and make up artists from Washington, DC so I heavily relied on Yelp and FB reviews for bridal hair and makeup options available in SF. The reviews on this page are absolutely accurate. She emailed me the same day when I inquired about her services. It was a big plus that I was interacting directly with her and not with a salon assistant, so we instantly exchanged several emails with a photo of my dress and messages regarding the look that I wanted for my big day. This was very important since we didn't get a chance to do a trial. On the day of my wedding, she was punctual and finished the job in a very timely manner. I was done 15 minutes earlier than the expected time, so I had more time to relax and not stress about being ready in time. I was Susie's 5th bride/client for the weekend, yet she was so energetic, bubbly, and did a fantastic job! Even without being able to do a trial, she gave me the look that I wanted just based on email convos and chatting about it briefly prior to starting the hair and makeup session on my big day. She made me look and feel beautiful all day! The hair and makeup stayed on perfectly for the SF city hall wedding (random people at city hall kept complementing my hair and makeup all day!), reception, and even after all the wedding festivities have ended. Me and my fiance decided to go to SF for our pre wed photo last minute and we need to find a make up artist in the area within few days. I messaged Susie and got her reply the same night, which gave me very good impression. I also thrilled that she was also willing to wake up early to do my make up at 5:30am. Since this is my very first time having professional hair and make up done, Susie did a great job to make sure Im comfortable with everything. Oh man, Susie is...a true artist and a true professional. During my trial with her, she totally honed in on the look I was going for and when she was done--I *knew* I had nothing to worry about on the day of my wedding. I was so right! On my wedding morning this past November, she showed up exactly when asked to arrive and got right down to business. I very rarely leave reviews, but felt compelled to do so after getting done with my hair and makeup session with Susie. Given this was the first time I've ever had my makeup professionally done, I really didn't know what to expect. I usually wear very natural looking makeup and do almost nothing with my hair, but wanted something a little more polished for my engagement photo shoot. When I arrived, Susie started by reviewing the Pinterest boards I had sent her in the pre-appointment survey. I didn't know how close she would be able to get to those looks, but flash forward 1.5 hours later, and she absolutely nailed them! Not only that, but my skin was completely broken out at the time, and she managed to flawlessly cover all of my blemishes and even out my ruddy skin tone. I basically looked like a much better version of myself. Once we were done, she asked if I wanted anything changed, but I couldn't find anything for her to improve upon; she truly did an amazing job. The ultimate test was what would my fiancé think, seeing as he's used to my low maintenance look. When he came through our front door, his jaw literally dropped, and he couldn't stop telling me how beautiful I looked throughout our engagement photo session. He even told me that he loved the shade of lipstick I was wearing, and suggested I buy that color immediately (very very unusual for this man). Susie personally did my mom's, one of my bridesmaids' make-up and hairstyle as well as mine for my wedding in September. I was very pleased with the natural look that I wanted and the color palette she had chosen for my make-up. Susie listens to your preferences and will give you her professional feedback. Be sure you know what you want. The false eyelashes definitely made my eyes bigger. Since I didn't have a trial, she came early for the day of my wedding. She was finished with the 3 of us in 3 hours since my mom and bridesmaid had short hair. She made it all look so easy. The airbrushing machine was pretty cool. It was a no-brainer which team I would choose when it came to hair and makeup for my wedding. With 1 bride, 5 bridesmaids, and 2 mothers, I needed a vendor that was reliable and had a sizable team, and that was also familiar with Asian skin/hair. Sunny and her girls fit the bill for my needs (even though I signed the contract 11 months out, Susie was already booked!). I used Sunny on 3 occasions. Each time (engagement, trial, wedding), Sunny was patient and attentive to what looks I wanted. If you can, bring some pictures for inspiration. I also brought my accessories so we could play around with them. Note: you can save some money by using your trial make-up session for your engagement pictures if you're going for similar looks for both e*pics and the wedding. When searching for a hair and makeup person for my November wedding, I was hoping to find someone who could make me look nice in pictures and would have the bandwidth to handle styling for me, three bridesmaids, three flower girls, and five other family members. I did a search on Yelp and found Susie. She had the most reviews and her website looked nice so I booked her. I didn't have time to get a trial done so I just printed out pictures of what I thought I should look like and figured she'd be able to work with it. OMG Susie blew my mind with the final product! I had been so indifferent because my mind was so focused on the actual wedding planning. But when the big day came and I was so nervous, having Susie and her team (show up at my hotel right on time with all their kits) was oddly calming. She brought three other ladies with her and they set right to work making absolute magic. The other girls gave them general ideas of what they envisioned for hair and make up and this team ran with it. The comment most often used was, "You've made me look like the best version of myself." This due to Susie and co. being really good at highlighting your natural beauty. Now for me: I'm anxious by nature. It's my wedding day, there are 15 women running around in my room. I.was.freaked.out. Susie seemed to sense this and started chatting with me. Between our friendly chat and seeing how gorgeous she was making me...I finally relaxed. I'm a trusting person - no trial, I had a picture of Keira Knightly in a loose updo with dramatic eye make up and told her I wanted to look similar. Susie was able to interpret this photo/vision I had to something even more amazing than I had hoped for. She just read me and knew what to do. I've never felt more pretty in my life. I had no touch ups over the course of the entire day. I should also add that we had a total of 12 women being styled (hair and makeup) and Susie's team finished in 3 hours. All high quality products 4). She is so nice! She drove me and my friend to City Hall when I was going to just rush out and grab a cab (my hotel was by City Hall). 5). After extensive research, we were so lucky we found Susie Chhuor through Yelp.  We hired Susie based on the fantastic reviews from San Francisco and Los Angeles and without a doubt it was one of the best decision made.  We had a small ceremony at the gorgeous San Francisco City Hall and Susie turned me into a classy, elegant, and fashionable princess for my Wedding Day.  The hair and make-up was absolutely stunning and I received so many compliments. We even had tourists stopped throughout the day to take pictures of us during our Photo ShootJ.  My wedding is Audrey Hepburn inspired and I truly felt like a modern Audrey Hepburn.  Since we live in Orange County, we worked with Susie over the phone and emails.  The process was very stress free since she was so professional, organized, and thorough.  I'm very organized and with Susie I didn't have to worry because she would confirm the contract, details, and send it so promptly that I didn't even have to remind her. She also has many folders of hair and make-up examples on Facebook and many more on Susie Chhuor Pinterest along with so many hair and make-up tips.  I love that and saved them!!!  Her style also matches my personality very well.  Over the phone and email she was so easy going and constantly makes me smile when I read her emails. Before hiring her, she even recommended some wonderful SF food places for our wedding week like San Tung and Bi Rite Creamery.  On the day off, Susie was very prompt and of course it helps if you shared details of your apt/hotel/parking to make it easier for anyone to find you.  At first I was a bit nervous since I'm finally getting married to my fiancé after being together for 9 years. Also, I usually don't wear a lot of make-up, but Susie really walked me through the process and explained with each step and that really made the session so comforting.  We didn't have awkward silence because Susie would ask if I wanted music on, if I'm doing ok, is the make-up and hair ok through the whole process.  I really appreciated this since I've had make up done for special occasions and most don't truly bother asking you and it was more like a hit and run.  To make the process more smoothly, I've searched all over Pinterest and saved all the hair pictures.  I've shared with Susie my vision for the front, side, and back of hair and blush tone make up in advance via email and again on the day off.  Overall, everything was beautiful!! The airbrushing looks so natural and fantastic on pictures.  Even after the session, she recommended some additional photo shoot locations like Palace of Fine Arts and we loved it!  The whole day was just magical and we felt like we were getting married in an Indie feel Europe that's close to our home and hearts.      Yes amazing hair and make-up are critical, but a huge bonus is to have someone professional, attentive, friendly, warm, delightful, and sweet to make you feel important and special when you're nervous and to put you at ease.  Not only that, but our friends loved her presence and Susie even shared helpful Make-up tips as she was working too.  Susie truly did all that and more and I couldn't have thanked her enough.  She truly went above and beyond for our day.   Aside from Yelp reviews we also looked for artists who traveled national and internationally.  This means they must be good if someone is willing to fly the artist out!  Susie Chhuor company is available for SF, LA, OC and more!  I highly recommend!! Awesome! Susie was recommended to me by my wedding planner, Kelley Gin. I had a trial with Susie almost 8 months before the wedding because I live out of town. The trial went great...then I decided to completely change my hairstyle. Susie and Nicole reassured me via email that the change would be totally fine and that Susie would be able to do my new hairstyle. On the day of the wedding, Susie and her team arrived early and set up quickly. Everyone's makeup and hair looked great. I'm a huge fan of Susie's makeup style because she doesn't cake-on makeup but just makes everyone look like a more beautiful version of themselves. The makeup felt very light but stayed on.
