My sister and I were fortunate enough to book a color analysis session with Christina in her studio in the bay area. She of course asked us to come during the day so there would be natural light. She started by explaining the process very thoroughly. By the end, I could really see how different shades and fabrics complimented my skin (and which colors to avoid - eek!). I had been following on IG for a while before I got engaged, so I definitely had an idea that I wanted her to do my hair and makeup. Just save yourself the time of searching for a makeup artist, and hire Christina! If you are on the fence about bringing her on for the whole day, I would highly recommend doing that as well! I did a combination wedding makeup trial and engagement session, and Christina was very personable, took her time to make sure she got everything perfect, and made sure to give me photos/video of all angles to make sure I was happy with her work! She was also super gentle, never tugging or pulling at my skin, and always making sure I was not uncomfortable. On the day of, she was an absolute rockstar! We decided to keep her for the whole day, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made for my wedding. I cannot say enough about how amazing Christina is. I found her via recommendation from another makeup artist who no longer travels to weddings, and I knew she was the one when I heard k-pop playing in her studio. I booked her for hair and makeup for an engagement session, bridal trial, wedding, and second reception. Her studio is in San Francisco, which I traveled to for all our sessions except for our wedding, in which she came to my parents' home in San Jose. Christina made me feel at ease and really gave me the look I was going for (Korean actress haha!). For the wedding, I selected a package that included touch ups on-site at our wedding. She truly went above and beyond and she cared for me like a family member, but with the eye of someone who works weddings. She stayed with me at the venue through the ceremony, and she was just so attentive. She followed me around fixing my hair, holding my hand, carrying my dress, and taking behind the scenes photos and videos. She sent me an entire google photo album of photos and videos she had taken at our wedding! Christina is awesome. She drove out from San Jose to SF and showed up at 5am to do my makeup for my brother-in-law's wedding. I should note that generally, I hate getting my makeup done and normally would have been pretty grumpy at that hour. Christina made my experience enjoyable and I had a blast laughing with her while I got my makeup done. I warned her early on that I tend to twitch when having eyeliner done and she just rolled with it even when I started to twitch. Christina was so scrupulous about everything she did, cleaning the brushes, and using a new sponge on my face. I am so in love with Christina's work. So quick background, I'm getting married in early November and was doing my research to find the perfect artist to do my hair and makeup. After asking around and some internet research I found Christina. My fiancé who is a wedding photographer said Christina was his top choice as the makeup she does photographs well, looks natural but in a I just woke up and look this fabulous way and well is just that good. Contacting her was a breeze but we were really lucky that she was available. Ladies, the day you get engaged, book Christina for an engagement session ASAP. Now onto my makeup and hair trial session. Christina is great at communicating what would look best and why. Be open minded to let her try what would look good on you. Remember you are paying her for her expertise not to do you think looks good. I came in with ideas of what I liked and didn't like and after our trial, turns out the style I didn't like initially was the most flattering hair do of all. I learned the reason I liked the cascading style is that it helped slim down my round face and that the side bun I liked did not frame my face as well. You learn new things every day. As for my makeup, Christina took me from natural to photo ready so she could see my comfort level with makeup. She was great in asking at each step what I liked and didn't like. This was a one-on-one session tailored just for me, my skin type, my eye shape, all of me, to still look like me on one of the most momentous days of my life. And I looked like a bride. A ready-to-walk-down-the-aisle-and-take-a-million-kabajillion-photos-with-everyone-and-their-mom's bride. And I even got to give myself brownie points because I, of course, got to do almost half (thanks to the guiding light named Christina Chen lol ;)) One of the biggest takeaways for me was something personal. I've always had eczema since I was a child. My skin is sensitive and scars easily. During my session with Christina she also gave me amazing advice on how to help my skin. The products and makeup removal advice she told me have changed my routine completely since that day. Christina was truly easy to work with, and has the utter most patience. Being a new bride to be and novice in makeup, I needed to work with someone who was understanding and able to guide me through the entire process on hair and makeup for wedding dummies 101. I live in Hong Kong and she was recommended to me through an acquaintance. The fact that she was referred to me from Hong Kong, I felt comfortable from the start and knew she had a good reputation. As I planned for my destination wedding in San Francisco, you can imagine how the time zone difference could potentially pose some problems. However, she was so responsive and accommodating that the time zone difference was no issue. I flew into San Francisco prior to the wedding a month before in order to do a trial run. I would recommend coming prepared with sample photos of makeup and hair style that you want. Christina is not pushy, so she leaves you to decide on your own style and will opine when asked. Leading up to the wedding, Christina was also planning her own wedding which was a month before mine. She was professional and helpful throughout the process and was able to manage everything on top of her own wedding ~ truly amazing! With her packages, it is straight forward and she was able to explain and provide options to accommodate the wedding party despite my many questions. On the day of the wedding, she was truly magnificent in so many ways. I am Chinese and she is Taiwanese, is she was able to relate to some of the customs that had to be incorporated into my wedding. Her aura is so calm which really eases your nerves on the day of the wedding day. She was with me from the start of the day to almost the end of my reception. Our day started at 12PM and I arrived around 12:15PM, since there was no closer parking. Christina is amazing and soo so so talented. Brides, you won't go wrong w/ Christina. Christina is AMAZING and one of the most talented people I know. When I'm sitting there in the makeup chair, I feel like she is painting my face like a masterpiece. I can't even tell what technique she is using because it looks and feels as if she is just brushing to her own delight. All I know is that the end result is a total transformation, for the better of course. It was my wedding day and I had just finished makeup before heading to the venue. While walking to the dressing room, my dad and aunt didn't even recognize me! They literally had to take a second and third glance before me confirming that it was in fact me. I know many girls always request to look "natural" on their big day but even that natural look requires a lot of makeup. Plus, pictures really do tone it down so the more the better. You don't want to look like you aren't wearing anything on your face. It's your one time to shine!! The entire process from the initial contact, to the our makeup trial, to our engagement makeup + hair session, to the actual day of was so easy. At the trial, I had originally wanted a slightly smokey eye but after it was over, I realized I wanted purple toned eyeshadows. Without a second trial and just a magazine picture I pulled, Christina just somehow knew what to do and gave me the perfect look. She didn't stay with me throughout the day but gave me a little kit to blot and touch up my lipstick, neither which I did. Everything stayed intact for about 12+ hours. In the Bay Area, there are a range of prices you can pay and Christina falls somewhere in the middle but I would recommend her 100% to anyone. Makeup isn't something to be compromised on, especially on your big day. Ok, normally I don't do any of this Yelp reviewing, but this time I just had to! I'm getting married in July in Saint thomas( the U.S Virgin Islands) and I wanted to have a hair and make-up trial just to see how the style I had in mind would look on me, I do admit I was a little nervous just not knowing how It would turn out. First Christina is such a nice person, she is sweet and I felt comfortable the moment I came in to her studio! Second, she is just amazing with hair and make-up! she is SUPER talented! Her work is so Fabulous! I couldn't stop staring in the mirror haha I wanted a soft braided undo and natural looking make-up up which is exactly what she did and even way more! She so nice and helpful to take pictures with her professional camera so my hairstylist in the Virgin islands knows exactly what to do ;) Now I'm just hoping that the hairdresser over there is just as brilliant as Christina is! Christina did a great job on my hair and makeup for my wedding in October. Not only are her hair and makeup skills amazing, but she has such a friendly and sweet personality that made my trial and wedding prep time fly by. When I started communicating with her about her services, rates, and setting up a trial, I was practically ready to book her for her email communication alone, since she was so quick to respond and great at answering any questions I had. She was so accommodating with my numerous questions and always made sure we were on the same page in terms of scheduling, payments, and hair and makeup ideas. On my wedding day, Christina and her assistant were early and ready to go. She and her assistant also did hair and makeup for my bridesmaids - they finished with everyone on time and all the girls looked wonderful. I normally wear no makeup at all, so actually getting my makeup done is not something I'm accustomed to. However, Christina did an amazing job and was extremely patient with me. She made me feel at ease the whole way through and I was so impressed with the way my makeup came out, both in person and in our professional photos. Overall, Christina did a phenomenal job - I got so many compliments during the wedding and even my husband wanted me to make sure I mentioned that he thought hiring Christina was completely worth it (which really speaks to her amazing work - he doesn't usually notice these things!). Christina is fabulous! I never really wore makeup growing up and since I've started wearing it, I never quite felt like it looked right on me. I knew it was time to learn how to do it right. After a search on the Internet and after looking at numerous reviews, Christina came up on top. Scheduling with Christina was easy and she was quick to respond to my email asking for availability. She also suggested I look at styles I liked and bring pictures of how I wanted my makeup to look so she could tailor her lesson to what I wanted. Her space is charming and bright. She was welcoming when I came in and we got down to business. We looked at the pictures I brought and we selected 3 looks to build up to from the first look. Each step was explained and she demonstrated how to apply each item we used on one half of my face. I then practiced on the other half of my face. It was great to see, then do - and my face came out balanced so I must have done something right! By the end of the session I was ready to go out on the town - but not too much as I was leaving her studio at 3:30 in the afternoon. Christina knows what she is doing, knows how to teach it, and after our session followed up with an email about products we used that I didn't own and really did want to own. Christina is fantastic. I booked a trial, my bridal makeup/hair, and my wedding party+moms makeup/hair with Christina. She was one my most favorite people to work with during my wedding. First, Christina is just a wonderful person. She's very responsive to feedback and requests. I just loved that she made me look and feel naturally beautiful, rather than someone who looked like they were wearing a lot of makeup. This is incredibly overdue but Christina encompasses everything you would want on your special day. She is humble, attentive, skilled, professional, sweet and passionate about makeup. I had my wedding in Taiwan at the end of 2014 (I know, I'm super late!) She was visiting at the same time so I was able to have a trial session there too. I showed some pictures and she replicated what I wanted--and even more so as she combined all my ideas into one look. On my wedding day, she showed up exactly on time and finished my look in the allotted time she had given. Christina is a wonderful conversationalist and she eased my nerves before the ceremony. I had so much fun throughout the process. Not only did my makeup last throughout my wedding, it lasted throughout the after party hangout at the night market!
