Just save yourself the time of searching for a makeup artist, and hire Christina! If you are on the fence about bringing her on for the whole day, I would highly recommend doing that as well! I did a combination wedding makeup trial and engagement session, and Christina was very personable, took her time to make sure she got everything perfect, and made sure to give me photos/video of all angles to make sure I was happy with her work! She was also super gentle, never tugging or pulling at my skin, and always making sure I was not uncomfortable. On the day of, she was an absolute rockstar! We decided to keep her for the whole day, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made for my wedding. We got married in Pleasanton during the peak of summer, so to say I was sweating profusely would be an understatement. I cannot say enough about how amazing Christina is. I found her via recommendation from another makeup artist who no longer travels to weddings, and I knew she was the one when I heard k-pop playing in her studio. I booked her for hair and makeup for an engagement session, bridal trial, wedding, and second reception. Her studio is in San Francisco, which I traveled to for all our sessions except for our wedding, in which she came to my parents' home in San Jose. Christina made me feel at ease and really gave me the look I was going for (Korean actress haha!). For the wedding, I selected a package that included touch ups on-site at our wedding. She truly went above and beyond and she cared for me like a family member, but with the eye of someone who works weddings. She stayed with me at the venue through the ceremony, and she was just so attentive. She followed me around fixing my hair, holding my hand, carrying my dress, and taking behind the scenes photos and videos. I am so in love with Christina's work. So quick background, I'm getting married in early November and was doing my research to find the perfect artist to do my hair and makeup. After asking around and some internet research I found Christina. Christina is great at communicating what would look best and why. Be open minded to let her try what would look good on you. Remember you are paying her for her expertise not to do you think looks good. I came in with ideas of what I liked and didn't like and after our trial, turns out the style I didn't like initially was the most flattering hair do of all. I learned the reason I liked the cascading style is that it helped slim down my round face and that the side bun I liked did not frame my face as well. You learn new things every day. As for my makeup, Christina took me from natural to photo ready so she could see my comfort level with makeup. She was great in asking at each step what I liked and didn't like. I met her years back at a photoshoot I took part in and ever since she did my makeup that day, my end goal was to basically stalk her business and keep in touch until the day I was to get married :P Fast forward 6 years and the time has finally come, except that Christina was now in the Bay Area. I definitely did not plan for that in my vision lolll. My (now) husband and I also moved to the bay the year before so it turned out we were conveniently neighbors with Christina, but our wedding venue was in SoCal ... My husband definitely knew how determined I was to have Christina be the one that does my makeup -- because it's Christina and she's amazing, of course -- so you can imagine how ecstatic I was to find that she did makeup lessons! Which was ideal for brides that would be having their weddings far away (Me! Me!). The makeup lesson was 3 hours long -- and rightly so -- there are so many things to know about makeup! Christina was so great in guiding me step-by-step. She would do one side, stop at a certain point, I would mimic her, then she would continue. She not only broke down the steps in a digestible way, but she also shared with me tips, techniques, and the right tools I was to use. I had flashbacks of the times I would YouTube makeup tutorials -- you know the ones you try to mimic and it ends up looking like a drunk, overdone version of your everyday look -- but this was not the case with Christina. This was a one-on-one session tailored just for me, my skin type, my eye shape, all of me, to still look like me on one of the most momentous days of my life. And I looked like a bride. A ready-to-walk-down-the-aisle-and-take-a-million-kabajillion-photos-with-everyone-and-their-mom's bride. And I even got to give myself brownie points because I, of course, got to do almost half (thanks to the guiding light named Christina Chen lol ;)) One of the biggest takeaways for me was something personal. I've always had eczema since I was a child. My skin is sensitive and scars easily. During my session with Christina she also gave me amazing advice on how to help my skin. The products and makeup removal advice she told me have changed my routine completely since that day. I had the pleasure of letting Christina do my hair and makeup on my wedding ceremony this Sunday, the 26th of July - 2015 including touchup before the reception the same day. My wedding was a Bengali, Indian traditional wedding in San Jose. Amazing!! Is the one word I would use to describe Christina and her work. She did my hair & make-up back in May 2015 for my wedding and everyone, including myself were impressed. My make-up lasted ALL day... even through the sweat! Lol. That says a lot. I had such a natural glow throughout the day... it was beautiful...I felt soooo beautiful that day. This is incredibly overdue but Christina encompasses everything you would want on your special day. She is humble, attentive, skilled, professional, sweet and passionate about makeup. I had my wedding in Taiwan at the end of 2014 (I know, I'm super late!) She was visiting at the same time so I was able to have a trial session there too. I showed some pictures and she replicated what I wanted--and even more so as she combined all my ideas into one look. On my wedding day, she showed up exactly on time and finished my look in the allotted time she had given. Christina is a wonderful conversationalist and she eased my nerves before the ceremony. Christina is AMAZING and one of the most talented people I know. When I'm sitting there in the makeup chair, I feel like she is painting my face like a masterpiece. I can't even tell what technique she is using because it looks and feels as if she is just brushing to her own delight. All I know is that the end result is a total transformation, for the better of course. It was my wedding day and I had just finished makeup before heading to the venue. While walking to the dressing room, my dad and aunt didn't even recognize me! They literally had to take a second and third glance before me confirming that it was in fact me. I know many girls always request to look "natural" on their big day but even that natural look requires a lot of makeup. Plus, pictures really do tone it down so the more the better. You don't want to look like you aren't wearing anything on your face. It's your one time to shine!! The entire process from the initial contact, to the our makeup trial, to our engagement makeup + hair session, to the actual day of was so easy. At the trial, I had originally wanted a slightly smokey eye but after it was over, I realized I wanted purple toned eyeshadows. Without a second trial and just a magazine picture I pulled, Christina just somehow knew what to do and gave me the perfect look. She didn't stay with me throughout the day but gave me a little kit to blot and touch up my lipstick, neither which I did. Everything stayed intact for about 12+ hours. In the Bay Area, there are a range of prices you can pay and Christina falls somewhere in the middle but I would recommend her 100% to anyone. Makeup isn't something to be compromised on, especially on your big day. Plus, she doesn't charge extra for airbrush which despite many opinions, looks just like regular foundation (we tested both). read more

Hiring Christina as my makeup artist (as was hiring Jasmine) was the best decision and investment I made for my wedding! If you are considering Christina, drop everything and book her right now! She is worth every penny and more! Also if you are hiring Christina as your makeup artist, I highly recommend hiring Jasmine Lee as your photographer. They are friends and they work incredibly well together! Trust me you will not regret it! I met Christina in person when she was doing a workshop on how to take care of your skin pre-wedding, and I just loved her! She gave me so many tips on skin care! Pre-wedding planning Christina was so responsive and organized about the wedding makeup timeline. I was planning the wedding myself and I just loved that she was so organized and honest about what needed to happen for us to not be in a rush on the wedding day. We went to Yosemite for pre-wedding photos and brought Christina with us and I just felt so pampered by Christina! She would fix my veil, and my hair. I felt like a model lol. On the wedding morning, having Christina there with me doing my makeup was one of the most calming parts of the day. I just felt like a best friend was taking care of me. I was a little nervous about wedding makeup because I am Latina with olive skin, and could not find any good examples of makeup I loved, but I am so happy with the results! I just wanted a natural more elevated version of me and I wow Christina really knocked it out of the park! I loved how my hair looked. She made me look and feel like a princess. Christina really went above and beyond on my wedding day. I just remember on my wedding day with all the stress of the day we could not find the boutonnieres and Christina without hesitation ran to my grooms room to find them. Christina did a great job on my hair and makeup for my wedding in October. Not only are her hair and makeup skills amazing, but she has such a friendly and sweet personality that made my trial and wedding prep time fly by. When I started communicating with her about her services, rates, and setting up a trial, I was practically ready to book her for her email communication alone, since she was so quick to respond and great at answering any questions I had. She was so accommodating with my numerous questions and always made sure we were on the same page in terms of scheduling, payments, and hair and makeup ideas. On my wedding day, Christina and her assistant were early and ready to go. She and her assistant also did hair and makeup for my bridesmaids - they finished with everyone on time and all the girls looked wonderful. I normally wear no makeup at all, so actually getting my makeup done is not something I'm accustomed to. However, Christina did an amazing job and was extremely patient with me. She made me feel at ease the whole way through and I was so impressed with the way my makeup came out, both in person and in our professional photos. Christina is fabulous! I never really wore makeup growing up and since I've started wearing it, I never quite felt like it looked right on me. I knew it was time to learn how to do it right. After a search on the Internet and after looking at numerous reviews, Christina came up on top. Scheduling with Christina was easy and she was quick to respond to my email asking for availability. She also suggested I look at styles I liked and bring pictures of how I wanted my makeup to look so she could tailor her lesson to what I wanted. Her space is charming and bright. She was welcoming when I came in and we got down to business. We looked at the pictures I brought and we selected 3 looks to build up to from the first look. Each step was explained and she demonstrated how to apply each item we used on one half of my face. I then practiced on the other half of my face. It was great to see, then do - and my face came out balanced so I must have done something right! By the end of the session I was ready to go out on the town - but not too much as I was leaving her studio at 3:30 in the afternoon. Christina knows what she is doing, knows how to teach it, and after our session followed up with an email about products we used that I didn't own and really did want to own.
