I ordered a hot turkey sandwich. Two thick slices of bread with canned gravy and dried chunks of turkey. Very, very salty. Ate about a third and tossed the rest. Such an easy, inexpensive dish to make properly with homemade gravy and thinly sliced turkey. Ice cream is good though. read more

This establishment has drastically declined. We have faithfully visited for 30 years. The ice cream had always been an award winner! We had a seat every Friday for an amazing Fishfry. Unfortunately, our Fridays became less as quality declined. Today, I visited for lunch and the chicken panini had a processed mess on a nice roll. Total garbage! A restaurant so cute and serves such tasty fresh food, we went there for both lunch and dinner on the same day. We found it because it was close to Crystal Grove Diamond Mine, and was looking for a close place to eat. I had the Roasted Garlic and Cheddar burger for lunch. My husband had the Apple Cheddar burger. The kids had chicken fingers fries. We were very quiet because the food was so good. Then we left and went back to our hotel in Johnstown. Yet, couldn't find anything except for an Applebees and Friendly's nearby, so made the 25 minute drive back to Parkside Drive in. For dinner, we ordered the American standard for my older son, chicken fingers again for the younger son, the Texas beef special for myself, and the pulled pork platter for my husband. Everyone was satisfied. I forgot to take all of the fixings off the American Standard burger and had to go back to the counter to ask for them to be removed. My older son is a picky eater. They were able to accommodate. I sat back down and a woman came by and gave us back $1.25 in cash. I thought that was so over the top nice. We then ordered their homemade hard ice cream and milkshake for dessert. It is so creamy and delish. Outstanding flavors too. I had a hard time choosing one. The decor is so stylish and cute. This is a review for the ice cream only. This place has the best ice cream within 10 miles any direction. My favorites are the fudge brownie, butter pecan, and the chocolate. Buyer beware portion sizes are large so a medium is comparable to a large at most places. The ice cream has that perfect soft and thick texture and is full of creamy delicious flavor. You can order either inside or outside. Parking is a private lot and you can usually find 1-2 spots. The cost can't be beat I ordered 1 shake, 2 cups of ice cream with sprinkles, 2 cones of ice cream with sprinkles all for only $19! Overall the service is a little slow but it's on par for the area. If you are around this area late spring, summer, or early fall do yourself a favor and stop here. I recommend it! read more

We stopped to see if any dairy-free ice cream options were offered. The young lady at the walk-up window said yes but needed to ask another employee about the ingredients. This employee seemed very busy and kind of yelled "almond milk!" at us. I was a bit deterred by her unwelcoming attitude but pressed on as the appeal of being able to enjoy a dairy-free delight in my own village had taken firm hold in my mind. As I began to ask the all-important questions about using clean utensils to avoid cross-contamination, I was cut off and sharply told that cross-contamination was inevitable as the scoops all share the same dipping well. Hmmmmm. So why then offer dairy-free ice cream to people? The way it is served here is not dairy-free and therefore unsafe for people with a dairy allergy or intolerance and that can be some serious business. I appreciated the very clear answer to my question but did not appreciate the sharp and abrupt way the message was delivered. Oh, and some almond milk ice cream would have been nice but certainly not at the expense of my health. read more

I have lived in the area most of my life and have always frequented Parkside. I have also seen many changes since I first began going. Food has always been delicious--zero complaints there!! Ice cream is also superb. Incredibly friendly and clean atmosphere. The only reason I am rating at a 3 is for price and portions. Throughout time the prices have climbed and the portion sizes have decreased. Few, if any of the selections, come with anything which wouldn't be a problem if the price to add on fries and such wasn't a tad ridiculous. Recently got a small ice cream there for about $2.95. (the local Stewart's sells a half gallon for about $4). Wouldn't mind paying that much if I actually got a nice portion of ice cream but it was in fact quite small. Great little stop on a day's ride. Plenty of lunch choices and had trouble picking one. Tons of ice cream flavors to cool off with on a hot day. Was busy but staff worked hard to get everyone their meals in decent time. Would definitely recommend for bikers. Plenty of easy parking. read more

My husband and I used to frequent Parkside pretty much every Friday night when our kids were small and the prices couldn't be beat and the portions were of good size. Since all the new remodeling and expansions of the place the prices seemed to rise and the food portions were.... Meh!!! We actually stopped going for probably at least 6+ years because suddently everything seemed to be ala carte where you had to add 'sides' to your order, which of course meant more $$. Just this past weekend we decided to give it another try since it has been quite sometime that we frequented the place and now I know why we stopped going. My husband ordered their 'Hot Covered Roast Beef Sandwich' $6.99 and fries had to be ordered (additional). Okay, so now the price jumps to $8.99 and then a charge of .40 cents more to add gravy on the fries. So now the prices jumps to $9 dollars and some change. It was not even real homemade gravy because it was lumpy on the sandwich and fries. We ate out on the terrace and by time my husband's food got to our table it was cold. I ordered a Cobb Salad which I will admit was a good/decent size salad but it did not have 'grilled' chicken as described in the menu. I actually had to search for the chicken (which was small cubed pressed chicken). I ordered water and my husband order a small beverage which was pretty much all ice. Needless to say it was a very disappointing meal and you can be assured that Parkside will not be on my list of places to eat any longer. read more
