When I first moved to West Tosa (from Upper East Side MKE), Parkside 23 was near the top of my to-try list. That list was halted and changed dramatically over the last 21 months, but PS23 remained high on it. I was craving some warm, comfort food and decided it was a good time to finally give PS23 a try. I ordered carry-out. But when I arrived, I immediately wished 1) I had dressed nicer (even just for carry out) and 2) I had reservations instead. The interior was warmer and more inviting than the food had any hope to be. The Christmas decorations were out in full, enthusiastic force. The hosts/hostesses were dressed to the nines and pleasant. And the cozy light beckoned you in, to stay, have a bite, catch up with old friends. ...but I got take out. In sweatpants. So, back to Tosa I went. The chicken dumpling soup I started with was broth based, though I had my heart set on cream-based. No worries because the first bite proved exceptionally flavorful. Unfortunately, the remaining bites proved much more salty than tasty. I like salty foods, but the soup was somewhat difficult for me to finish. The Shepard's pie was similarly over-salted, though not as bad as the soup. I appreciated the light hand on the cheese atop the potatoes, which were really velvety and rich. But I also found something chewy in the potatoes, which turned out to be a bit of paper, the size and consistency of the end of a straw wrapper. I don't know how that got in there, but it didn't improve my perception of the meal. The steamed vegetables that came on the side were confusingly bland and under-seasoned, though they were cooked well and toothsome. Nothing tasted bad, it was just (mostly) too salty. The paper in the potatoes was disappointing. And a bit disconcerting. I'd consider going back because a lot of the menu options sound great. But for the higher price-tag, and after this underwhelming experience, I'm not so sure. If you decide to try Parkside 23, I recommend going in person and dining in. The decor and experience may make up for the food being less than stellar, and perhaps your food will match the ambiance. If not, maybe their drink options will dull your senses enough that you remember only the lovely interior. That may be the only part of my experience that I remember, too. read more

Parkside 23 is always a nice place to stop for some good Farm to Table food! I attached a picture of their brunch/lunch menu on the weekend. I really like their fried Amish chicken breast, comes with mashed potatoes, collared greens, and corn bread. Another dish I love is the wood stone roasted shrimp, it is a side but has 5 large shrimp so it could be a meal. The service is mediocre, a little slow, they could have more management on staff. Never once have I had a manager ask how my meal was and I have been there a dozen times. The food reminds me of Georgia southern cooking. I definitely would recommend going. read more

On a work event in Brookfield last week, we searched for a dinner spot for our group of 11. We'd been to Bonefish a few times and tried to get in but due to their hosting a large (55!) group, we weren't able to do to. I asked the person on the phone for a recommendation for a nice local restaurant and she offered Parkside 23. I called and they were able to accommodate our group. And we're extremely pleased that they were! Coming from Portland, OR, "farm to table" and "locally sourced" are very familiar offerings. Parkside 23 promotes these values and the resulting menu items certainly display their ability to deliver in an impressive way. Our group worked their way through 23's menu pretty thoroughly. From the 9-14.5 we had the pork fries (huge inclusion of pulled pork, nice sauce, a bit light on the poblano though), the beet salad (I pickle my own beets - these met my approval completely), the hummus and the flat bread. Of the other menus, kudos were generous for the scallops, the meat loaf, the cod, the salmon...basically all of it. Oh - and the desserts. Lemon blueberry cobbler? Maybe more of a "crumble" than a cobbler but excellent nonetheless. As were all of the other desserts samples. We're not a particularly picky group but when we travel, we enjoy taking the time to sit for a good meal. Of the restaurants we've sampled over that past year, P23 has received the most positive response, both for food and service. Top that off with a most reasonable cost - about $540 plus tip and that included drinks for our 11-person group. And perhaps to our experience to a "well-respected" steakhouse on the next evening, P23 set a bar that would have been hard for any restaurant to match... Thanks!!! read more

Our server was very attentive and made some great suggestions for dinner. The decor reminded me of a kind of art deco blended with craftsman. All in all a great restaurant. This is my favorite place to go for farm to table and sit on their patio on summer. They have huge garden in back and source local all their ingredients. The Amish chicken is my favorite and comes with collard greens, mashed potatoes and a corn muffin. I also love the short ribs, Mac and cheese or the flatbreads. This restaurant is a hidden gem. Farm to table dining with so much flavor and class. Gluten-free options galore for my GF people. The outside dining is so much fun. And the inside has both fine dining and a bar side. Service is top notch with very knowledgeable and professional staff. Our server Jake was so great. Beautiful restaurant inside and outside, food is good. Salmon was moist and asparagus were nicely cooked. I was expecting the veggies to be cookies with the cod dinner, they clearly weren't which is fine just adding it in because I should have asked and don't want someone else to make the same mistake. The Amish chicken meal was very filling. The creamed corn was splendid as well as the cornbread. The chicken was a bit dry but nothing a little ranch can't fix. The seasonal bruschetta was AMAZING. The crunch on the baguette paired beautifully with the softer tomatoes and the vinaigrette is a nice touch. The pork fries were great. they're made with a sweet bbq sauce which isn't bad but I personally thought it would have been better without it and know I know that for next time. I sadly would not recommend the drinks. We had the margenta-rita, the peach drink ( not pictured ) as well as a sweet old fashioned. For the price none of them were worth it IMO. dessert is the real show stealer . The vanilla creme brûlée was delicious a very light consistency that pairs great with the whip cream. The carrot cupcake was the perfect carrot flavor and the nuts elevate the flavor even more. The salted caramel brownie is served warm was our favorite part of the meal. The brownie is cooked very well and has the perfect amount of salt. Also, Mary - Ellen was our server and she was great full of smiles and jokes. I have eaten here twice first time food was good but the table the put us at was bumped by the service person at least 7 times before I complained. We tried a second time with friends this time table was fine but their seafood special had bad clams and was overall not up to our tables expectations! Not sure if there ever be a third time! We came here on a Friday night. No reservations were available but there was no wait for a bar table. Our server (also the bartender) was appropriately attentive with both friendly and timely service without being overbearing. The drinks (glass of Pinot Grigio and old fashioned flight) and food (Brussels sprouts, fried chicken, and tacos) were great! Only real complaint is the cost of the drinks (all $9+ excluding beer). Second visit to this establishment. Food was excellent. Starter were outstanding. Entrees...beef to seafood was fantastic. Server was well versed in the menu. Our questions about food allergies were answered. The server did confirm our specific dietary requirements with the chef and made acceptable recommendations. There are not a lot of non-chain places to eat in Brookfield. Parkside 23 is a bright spot, for sure. Considered "farm to table"/comfort food-style, they consistently deliver good food and good service. Sourcing items from their garden/"farm" on site and from other local producers is a bonus. The creamed corn - yes, creamed corn - is a must. The pork fries are an indulgence you need to try at least once. The Amish chicken breast is fantastic. We have enjoyed pretty much everything we have tried, in fact. In warm weather months, the patio is a great place to enjoy a meal. We've all been there. Your BFF recommends a restaurant and you arrive only to find that THERE IS NO ON-SITE FARM! Too embarrassed to turn around and walk out, you hang your head and shuffle inside anyway. Not the case at Parkside 23! If you're eating here in the late summer/early fall, some of your veggies might come right out of the garden, maybe!!! But even if not, you can still be all pretentious about the gimmick to your friends. In all honesty, it was so hard to choose from the menu because everything looked really fun. I opted for the Chicken Cordon Bleu sandwich (served on a pretzel bun!) I imagined it would be good, but it surpassed my expectations, and I devoured the whole thing. I appreciated the spacious and pleasant outdoor seating, as well as the casual ambiance inside with live music on a random Tuesday night (actual musicians, not that freshman in college who was always told she could sing and picked up the guitar 4 months ago). Sure, the farm thing is a gimmick; but I'm ok with anything that helps get you here. It's like how you sometimes lie about your age to a cute girl so she'll go out with you - totally forgivable. Initially no one was raving about this place so I was in no hurry to check it out. However, I started hearing and reading comments about how good the food was around 6 or 8 months ago. So I decided to visit. I went on a Thursday night. The parking lot was full. I called the restaurant and they said it was ok to park in the church lot next door. Cool. I walked in and the dining room was full. So was the bar. I thought that was another good sign. My group arrived and we took over the private party dining room. There were 30 of us. I was concerned about how the kitchen was going to process 30 orders in a timely manner when they were already slammed. They found a way. I was impressed...very impressed. They didn't just find a way, but they dominated. All of our food tasted great. I didn't hear one complaint from my group. Nothing was sent back. There were no mistakes. One of my friends let me try the Cream Corn she ordered. It was made with leeks, roasted poblano pepper and bacon. It was the best corn dish of any kind that I've ever tried. I can't wait to go back and try it again. I started with a cup of Chicken Dumpling soup. The broth was good. The chicken was shredded and mostly tender. The dumplings were huge and a bit inconsistent with flavor. Not bad overall, but I've had better Chicken Dumpling soup. My entree was their Pretzel Crusted Veal with cheese ravioli, sauteed asparagus, wild mushrooms, and capers pan sauce. I would have liked a slightly crisp texture from the pretzel (even though warm pretzels are soft), but the veal was tender and delicious. I make my judgements about a chef and a restaurant by the sauce in my dishes. This pan sauce was awesome! I loved the flavor and would certainly order this dish again as well as recommend it. In fact, I recommend Parkside 23 in general. My expectations were exceeded across the board. Great food. Great service. Great for groups. Management was great to work with when setting up the group event. I have a feeling another visit or two might make me bump them to 5 stars. Now I just have to figure out how soon I can make it back. Fabulous!! Ordered takeout for dinner from here tonight. When I called in my order the staff member helping me was so personable and friendly. He was extremely helpful in making recommendations on the menu, and in providing me with info on their pickup process. It was my first time ordering takeout from here, and it was seamless when I arrived. They brought my food out promptly at my pickup time. I could tell the food was fresh & hot. I love that it's a farm to table restaurant. Everything we ordered was delicious. My favorite was the Mac and Cheese - I would say the best in the area. The food: Mostly updated american fare, some trendy dishes (nashville hot chicken) and limited forays into italian cuisine with arancini and flatbreads. Generally well prepared and flavorful dishes the occasional misses are more a matter of tastes than quality. Ambiance: Elevated casual but not in an intimidating way. Make no mistake though this is not the place for the ball cap, t-shirt and sweatpants crowd. This is a nice restaurant, architecturally interesting designs, finishes and textures including stylized and coffered ceilings entertain the eye and set a refined tone. Bar: In a word classy, yet approachable. Seemingly always busy with a nice clientele, drinks are well crafted and priced fairly with decent offerings for wine and beer drinkers as well. That's the only good thing. Why did they pack a Burnt what I'm assuming is a piece of cornbread? That crap should've been tossed immediately out of the oven. Instead they saved it for the Unexpected person with Take out. The Pot Pie USED to be Delicious with a flaky golden crust, plenty of vegetables and chicken breast meat..... NOT today. Instead it has Mystery Meat. Is that chicken thigh? Gross. I have 0 carrots, an overload of peas, 0 potatoes, and 1 slice of onion. WTF? For $55 I expected more than garbage. read more

This is a swanky restaurant with an unimposing welcomeness. We waited for our table in the cocktail lounge where I had a wonderful Hinterland Luna Coffee Stout from Green Bay. Oh man, based on my four days in Wisconsin I think these guys know how to make beer! Once at our table, I ordered the roasted beets plus 3 shrimp. The presentation of the dish was cool. It comes in some type of collar which the waitress removes. It gave a blossoming visual effect which I thought was cool. The dish tasted great and felt healthy. The additional shrimp were good but didn't pair well with the dish. I really like the decor and ambiance inside. I'm looking forward to returning on my next trip to the area. read more

Love the farm to table philosophy, especially since the "farm" is right by the restaurant. The salads were fantastic (roasted beet and the spinach maple pecan). However, they have the maple salad priced wth a "protein option" and do not have price option without protein. They charge the same price even when making it a vegetarian salad. I had a good experience at Parkside 23. Their patio is nice and we got to enjoy it on a mid-March evening (whaa, so crazy, Wisconsin!). I ordered the tomato soup and Caesar salad. Both were good. I think it's a little odd that the menu is organized by price. I couldn't get a feel for portion size or anything that way, but the server was helpful in that regard. My friend, who is vegan, called ahead to make sure there'd be something there for her to eat. The person who answered the phone assured her she could get the stuffed pepper without cheese. Well after we had placed our order, our server came back to tell her that the pepper cannot, in fact, be prepared vegan, so my friend ordered the beet salad without cheese. Later, the owner came out and brought her dish out personally, apologized for the mix-up and told her the salad was on the house. I was really impressed by how they turned that situation around. I got the banana split for dessert and it was good. read more

Went for dinner tonight and sat at the bar. Valerie greeted us with a big smile and got us our drinks right away!! Checked on us a couple of times to see if we had questions about the menu. She just started her shift and found out for us what the soup of the day was and told us what the special was. Everything was excellent and her service was amazing!! There were six of us for lunch the day I came to Parkside 23 for the first time. The waitress was attentive without being in our faces all the time. She happily suggested items for us and was willing to work with a few people in our group on substitutions needed for dietary restrictions. We started with the beet salad - I have been thinking of that salad for weeks now. It was delicious and I look forward to going back just to have that. A couple people had the meatloaf and loved it; there was a fish and chips order that disappeared into someone's stomach promptly; the chicken pot pie was raved over...overall, a delicious meal. I'm happy to have another restaurant to add to my list of go-to places and am looking forward to going back soon. read more
