Even when you first meet her it's like visiting an old friend. My husband and I came last year in October and stayed here for an anniversary trip. Fine boat rentals, but far too much power-washing and refrigerator repair for my idea of "camping."…read more Our plan was to find a lake to camp on, do a little canoeing or kayaking, and settle in for a quiet night in the tent. We ended up at Pushaw Lake Campground, which only fit part of that bill. The boat rental was quite reasonable --- we ended up in a nice Old Town tandem kayak, with not-too-grubby PFDs and fair hourly rental rates. However, even near the "tent" camping sites at the far end of the compound, there were people power-washing refrigerators, ATVs, and the like. Music wasn't the worst I've seen, but definitely there. Most of the units were set up for summer-long rentals --- some people had gone as far as taking the wheels off their trailers, or just let the tires go flat. As the afternoon got less and less pleasant, we ended up packing our tent and bailing. This place suits some people, but just isn't my speed.

Told Shirley (the owner) I would be back "next year" to help out, and here I am, Aug. 8th, 2019, sad to leave after spending 4 weeks in the grand teepee, helping out around the camp. Off route 1, into the woods, to grandmama's RV we go! But it is so much more... tent sites, group sites, great trails, and great vibe from the surrounding community. But what you really want to know is; this is a great base for exploring coastal Maine & Downeast. Now understand 2 things... Downeast is on the coast, but when the term 'downeast' is used, it is very much a reference to the culture of the folk who grew up and live here and have also known it through the generations of their family. Once you get here, you're in the thick of what "coastal Maine" really is without the crowds of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, etc.. from Cottonwood you will find within 20 mins. Never crowded beaches with all the beauty of those other places... and you can also make a day trip of getting to Easport or Calaise and just breath in New Brunswick! Oh yeah, bring your passport... One of the other things I love about camping here, are the various small sites that are suitable for bicyclers and bikers who travel with minimal gear and need to stop for short stays. Even though its right off the road, once in, you're cast into the woods! Oh yeah, and I can't think of another camp with such a great bath house along this route... Cottonwood Camping is truly a great experience and my pick as a base for exploring Downeast, Coastal Maine, the far north on the east side of the U.S. Shirley Cotton makes it happen! She is the BOMB!!

Although categorized as a campground this is a lodge with cabins that rest along the shoreline of West Grand Lake. Best suited for fishermen and hunters who wish to enjoy the surrounding lakes, woods and streams. Each cabin has a kitchen, running water, and fully plumbed bathrooms. I visited here over Memorial Day Weekend (2011) to do some Salmon fishing and will be returning for years to come. Yes for the fishing but also because the owners of Grand Lake Lodge have excellent cabins to crash in after a busy day on the water. Free docking for your boat if your looking to fish the lake. Only $42 bucks a night if you have more than one in your party. Beautiful setting! Big Fan!

Someone who looked homeless came unannounced into my campsite at 1030 pm!, when my kids were asleep in the tent. When I asked why they didn't announce themselves they got offended and gave me a really hard time, getting very upset with me, even after simply explaining why I was uncomfortable. This happened 2 different nights. After this they then called my wife while we were on a hike very upset with me for questioning why their staff members came into out site 2 different nights unannounced. I thought, in reality, if I pay $500 for a few nights in the woods I had the right, as a customer, to ask simply why they kept coming into my campsite; but apparently I was wrong when it came to this campground. If you like paying tons of money for campsites to have staff come into your site to bother you in the late hours of the night this is the campground for you.

The park is immaculately well kept, with many picnic tables and grills available. There is plenty of space to lay out a blanket for sunning or picnicking, and lots of green space for outdoors games. There are clean bath/changing rooms close to the designated swimming area. There is also a lifeguard on duty. Entry fees are reasonable ($7 per adult for non residents) and plenty of parking, including handicapped parking. No trash bins--take out what you bring in. A wonderful place to spend the day!

The camping is nice here too with good facilities, but the road noise is evident, especially at night when other things quiet down. Lastly, the park is dog friendly, which is so appreciated! Our dogs have enjoyed it each time they come, whether it be for camping or just stopping in to swim. I'm not sure if dogs are allowed in the water or not, but our dogs prefer to lounge in the sun or shade of the picnic table anyway.

Our electricity works great. The pool is beautiful. The laundry room is well kept and clean. It does take a digital app to use the machines. The Bar Harbor Islander bus picks up right out front and takes you all over the island. On the backside of the property over by the pool, there are trails to walk your dog on and blueberry bushes that are chalk full of blueberries. We picked a few and ate them. We had a really great experience here.
