First class campground!! The entire experience was great including staff interaction, beautiful site location, and facilities. Restrooms were clean and easily accessible. Especially liked the wood 'platform' for our tent - a first for us. Our first time to ME but we are definitely coming back - mostly thanks to our camping experience!!

Packed. They provided plenty of help and sooo close to Acadia too! Some sights were pretty tight to get a pull behind camper in but the location and all the small extras made the stay pleasant and worthwhile.

Our second time here and we cannot day enough about how amazing this campground is. We are tent campers and the sites are wooded and private. The wood platforms and electric hookups are a plus. Crabbing on the floating pier keeps the kids entertained for hours. Great location. Near the entrance to Acadia, and close to Bar Harbour. Bath house is clean and showers were hot. We can't wait to return!

Strikingly beautiful campground. It is right on the coast of Somes Sound with many sites right on the water. The sites themselves are wooded and well spaced from each other. The facilities are fabulous. Loved the Gathering Place for a morning coffee and fresh baked goods. (We also pick up firewood and ice there each day.) The location can't be beat - literally minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Nicest campground we've been to!

First time visit to Mt Desert Campground and highly impressed. I was solo tenting. My site was among the last available (ie far from their best) and was still very pleasant, large, and clean, with an even mix of sun and shade and a large wooden tent platform. Bathroom and shower were a short walk. All bathrooms/showers appeared newly rebuilt and well maintained. Staff at the office and the campground rangers were friendly and helpful. The campground was full but still quiet and peaceful. My only knock on the place is that it's hard to navigate the maze of one-way (and un-named) campground roads. If you're going out for a walk, bring your campground map! All in all a very nice place.

Very nice campground situated at the top of Somes Sound. Great central location only a few minutes from most of Acadia and less than 15-minutes from Bar Harbor. Check-in process was fast and the staff was super helpful. We booked a site not too long before our trip and were pleased with what we got. All sites seemed to be a decent size with a fair amount of foliage for privacy. There was a wooden plot on each site for for a tent (they provide nails to set it), a picnic table and fire pit. Restrooms were very clean with flush toilets and warm coin-operated showers ($1 for 5 minutes). The restroom we utilized had both a toilet and a shower. However, some people would lock the main door which was annoying when they were only using one part of the space.

Kayaking in Somes Sound, that's our site straight ahead up the boat ramp (C29).

A beautiful campground surrounded by an even more beautiful landscape. The waterfront sites are obviously the ones you want but truthfully I don't think I saw a "bad" site anywhere. Note: This is Not the campground you want to go to with a large group of friends and stay up late drinking by the fire. My perception is that is a big no-no here. Quiet hours are clearly abided by; 10pm came and you could practically hear all the fires go out and everyone zip up their tents for the night. I think the campground is ideal for couples or smaller families, definitely not loud groups. Staff live throughout the campground and patrol constantly on golf carts. The bathrooms were immaculate and you can tell they take pride in the cleanliness of the campground as a whole. We had site C29 which was across from the boat ramp so technically we had a "waterfront site" but we also had easier water access than some other sites I noticed. Many of the waterfront sites are located on the edge of small rocky cliffs, you can walk into the water but if you had a kayak or something it may be tricky getting them down in the water (or maybe that was just at low tide?). Next time we come back I'm aiming for site A21 or any of the C waterfront sites, those were the best in my opinion.

We stopped in looking for a nice place for a few nights to camp. This campground was like hitting the jackpot. Wonderful service at the front desk. The grounds and bathrooms, shower are exceptionally clean and well kept. Picturesque views, far apart camp sites for privacy, water and electricity, this campground has everything you want in a campground and more. We rented a canoe in the front office for one day and had a blast exploring. If we come back to the ares this will definitely be our go to. Wonderful place!

For years my wife has wanted to stay at this campground and when we finally made it happen it was such a disappointment. We booked our stay in March 2025, and reserved an ocean front back in site water electric. We arrive and they have is in a pull through across from the Ocean Front site we booked water and electric. My wife called the office to see if a mistake was make and Brenda at the office implied that my wife had no idea what she had reserved even though we had an email confirmation showing we had reserved an ocean front site. Brenda then completely dismissed my wife saying well we don't have any available anyway. There was no attempt to make this right whatsoever. We understand booking issues arise but for no communication prior to our arrival of the change was frustrating especially since we would have chosen a full hookup site had we been informed of the unavailability of an ocean front site. Our site was incredibly unleveled causing us to be unable to use the main entrance to our camper requiring our guests to walk through our bedroom to gain access to the bathroom and living room of our camper. We had emailed the campground about the experience as their handout requested to contact them before writing a bad review. Well it's over two weeks later and no one has responded to my wife's email. I would strongly recommend you skip this KOA they certainly do not care about your experience just your money!

We were able to maneuver the RV in our given spot but our little car spun mud, ugh! Second, we were told that for a one time charge of $25 the "honey wagon" would come around for dumping. (Since we were spending 18 days in this location without a sewer hookup, that was important to us). Turns out we were given the wrong information and it's each time used. Third strike, the park is full, leaf peeping season. The toilets have been shut down in our section for three days! Three toilets out of service for three days! As well as three washers in the laundry area leaving only two to use, did I say the park is full!? Not sure when these will be fixed, just says "soon". Simple remedies to the challenges this park is facing at this time: First, if you have had a horrific amount of rain (which they did with hurricane Lee), get some sand, something to toss down on the mud pit! At the very least, give your guest another spot! We were there two days before the park filled. We looked, most spots were dry, with no skid marks. Second, make sure your office help has all the correct information. Or put it in writing some place so your guests get the correct information. This is kind of a big deal. Third, toilets need to be fixed asap. I get being down a day or two but three! And who knows when it will get fixed! Be honest, don't put a sign up that says, will open "soon". How about, "sorry for the inconvenience, we had a hurricane disturb our park and have been working hard to get back up to speed. This will be fixed as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding", I understand, I'm disappointed, but I understand. P. S. I'm from Florida!

Bad Experience: Prior to booking our reservation, we called and spoke with someone about our specific gear needs and they recommended a few sites that we should request in order to fit and feel comfortable. While there was an additional fee to reserve a specific site, we were told to book online and enter the range of sites we preferred and one of those would be reserved. You can imagine our frustration and panic when we arrived to what I would call one of the smallest tent sites in the campground - one that wouldn't fit our 6 person tent, let alone our second tent, our screen house, and leave space for a car. We expressed our frustration with the woman at the counter who apologized for the misinformation we were given. She then explained that for an additional charge, we could upgrade to an RV site because all of the large tent sites were reserved. Mind you, we just drove 2.5 hours and it's now dinner time so driving back home wasn't quite an option. I was not impressed to find out that as a result of one of their employees providing us misinformation, we could pay even more for a larger site. I would have just paid the small fee to book a specific site had I been told this was going to happen to us. People make mistakes, that's understandable - though it's frustrating to leave us in a position to be forced to pay more as a result. After further negotiations, the woman at the counter did upgrade us and provided us a small discount - resulting in us paying an additional $15 above the original reservation. Note: this experience won't prevent us from visiting again in the future. We've just learned that we are better off booking over the phone and paying the fee to reserve a specific site. The Good: - the campground and facilities are clean and well kept - the staff are friendly - the pool is nice, clean, and kept at a nice warm temp on cooler days - the campground offers fun activities to entertain families - the Island Explorer is a free shuttle bus that will bring you into town so you don't have to compete for parking - it's located about 20 minutes from Acadia NP and from Bar Harbor with plenty of stores in either direction for all of your forgotten items

The fire ring was only steps from the area we could put the tent. And then there was the opening to the field that we could see other tents as well as the play area for people. It was hard to get any privacy, I could clearly hear my neighbor tenters, and we didn't have many trees so it made it hard to hang things. We made the most of our site but the next morning when our neighbors left we asked if we could switch to that site because it was more secluded and they wouldn't let us which was a little disappointing. The pool was closed the whole time for some reason (I didn't know why). The place is pretty nice, the people are nice, but I was hoping for a better site. I am used to camping deep in the woods so this is just a personal opinion but I prefer more privacy but I didn't know!
