Must visit. Buy your pass at the visitor center. Can be crowded and traffic. Beautiful and serene . Great for camping and hiking and biking.

East Coast God-Tier National Park 5 Hours Drive from Boston for the FIRST Sunrise in the US! As the only truly impressive national park on the East Coast, Acadia is breathtaking - it literally left me speechless . The heavenly composition of mountains, lakes, and the ocean all in one frame means every shot looks like a National Geographic masterpiece. This guide is perfect for busy bees and those traveling with seniors, no "special forces" (extreme hikers) needed! Skip the long lines, avoid detours, and make the most of your trip! Here is my 3-Day, 2-Night itinerary. Day 1: Beehive + Sand Beach + Ocean Path Climbing to the top for a panoramic view of Sand Beach, with green mountains embracing the blue sea in the distance, won't disappoint. It's not that Beehive Trail is too scary to climb, but rather that Bowl Trail offers better "value for money." The cliffs, iron rungs, and chains are too dangerous; if you're not into rock climbing , the views from Bowl Trail are just as good. If you have good stamina, you can combine Gorham Mountain Trail and Ocean Path for a total of 5 miles. If you don't want to walk too far, skip Gorham and just do Ocean Path, which offers endless Atlantic ocean views and no uphill climbs. Don't miss Thunder Hole to hear the ocean's symphony! Sand Beach gets super crowded on holidays, so consider parking at the Great Head Trail parking lot. Day 2: Bubble Rock + Jordan Pond The 100+ ton Bubble Rock, precariously perched on the cliff, is a must-see. Snap your iconic shot at South Bubble, then head to North Bubble for views of Jordan Pond nestled against the distant mountains. Afterwards, descend to Jordan Pond for afternoon tea paired with their famous popovers! Day 3: Cadillac Mountain + Bar Harbor Head straight to Cadillac Mountain to catch the earliest sunrise in the entire US! Remember to reserve a parking spot on the official website in advance. In the afternoon, head to Bar Harbor for an epic lobster roll feast. Try the wood-fired lobster at Blaze. Taking your parents on a whale watching tour is also a great option! Pro-Tips to Avoid Pitfalls: Fourth of July holiday is super crowded. Autumn is highly recommended - the fall foliage combined with the coastline is absolutely breathtaking. For sunrise viewing, bring a jacket - it gets freezing cold at the summit. For stargazing and hiking at night, wear hiking boots (rocks are rough on the feet!) and bring mosquito repellent (mosquitoes are fierce!). With this itinerary, you can sleep in until 8 AM daily and be back in Bar Harbor by 6 PM for dinner, drinks, and sunset views. That's the Maine motto: "The way life should be!"

This trip was our second to Acadia National Park and it did not disappoint. There is nothing like the rocky coast of northern Maine and Acadia does its very best to highlight it! My suggestion is to get to park VERY early because as the morning progresses into the early afternoon, the park becomes increasingly more crowded. Parking can be difficult if you do not arrive early in the morning. We love that it is dog friendly.

Highly recommend purchasing the $12 Audio Guide and driving through the different parts and noting your favorite spots and then going back and actually stopping. We loved stopping at Sand Beach and getting out and exploring. We climbed the rocks along the side near sand beach and it was perfect. The National Park pass is required (either day or yearly) and it was $30 for the day. Highly recommended. So beautiful. You can also purchase a ticket to go up the mountain (we did not). But overall go!

I don't have a good handle on the play out of the Park, but we are managing our way around. Parking has been difficult for hiking spots which is why they have the bus system. Views from everywhere are beautiful but we haven't seen any wildlife yet.

When in Acadia NP, be sure to visit the gift shop at this visitor center. I found a nice array of t-shirts, stickers -- even a souvenir blanket. There's items for kids and pets too.

However, I decided to drive by one last time at noon today on my way back to Boston and THERE WAS A HINT OF LIGHT. I parked, I ran-walked-skipped, and I barged right through those doors thinking to run into either Loren or Shawn. But nay, I was instead greeted by a sweet elderly lady with bright eyes surprised by the sudden intrusion of some random excited Asian dude. "Oh sorry, I'm not really open yet. I hope you don't mind the mess." "ME DON'T CARE." Sasquatch-wannabe-tourist gleefully responds. I came to find out shortly that it was Loren's mom, Grace, and she was definitely a delightful way to end my trip this year. You see, I came to really like this shop last year when I got to extensively talk to both Loren and Shawn during several visits to the shop because they were so fun to banter with. Not only did I receive local tips to the area, I came to really appreciate what they have done here over time through their little business. Their gift bags are printed with Loren's photography and Shawn's paintings! Truly beautiful and different from the other stores in the area. Definitely my favorite gift shop that I've visited so far and will continue to stop by and say hi whenever I'm in the area. Absolutely recommend!

I can remember coming to this shop ever since I was little. The smell of pine, the touristy yet awesome items. Sure, they've got the same stuff that 90% of the other shops have, but something about this store for me is different. They've got every blueberry, Maine, Acadia, and Bar Harbor item you could need - clothes, books, souvenirs, home decor, and more spread out over two floors. I think this store probably has the most stuff out of any store in the downtown Bar Harbor area, but because of the size of the space it's not packed in like at some other shops. Prices are high, the items are touristy, but what do you expect? It's all about the nostalgia for me.

We stopped in here a few times and I saw a few different people working behind the counter and all greeted us immediately and were friendly. The Acadia Corporation owns and runs eight different individual stores in the Bar Harbor area that collectively are referred to as "Acadia Shops." This specific review is for the quaint Acadia Country Store. Because the Acadia Corporation is running many stores in Bar Harbor stuff really starts to look the same from store to store but the Acadia Country Store seemed to have a bigger focus on consumables like Stonewall Kitchen jellies and syrups and homemade fudge. Drats, I should have gotten a photo of the fudge display. Anyway, I enjoyed looking at kitchen stuff like cookie cutters and Swedish dish clothes while the hardwood floors quaintly creaked underfoot. I skipped the souvenirs since I'd already perused the same items at many other stores in downtown Bar Harbor.

Every time I'm vacationing, I'm always on the look-out for interesting shops that sell items worth my money to give away. My Darling Maine Island Boutique is another great Bar Harbor Gift Shop on Cottage Rd where you can pick up really interesting keepsakes. No- you're not going to find the mundane souvenirs here. What you'll find are gifts with a purpose, many with a twist and a message from local artists. Victoria and I caught up via email and phone to solidify my appointment. She was super accommodating to our schedules and opened her shop earlier than expected. Thank you so very much! Her shop has a little of everything including casual and funky clothes and other well-priced pieces that I snapped up for myself! She was beyond friendly and we practically talked for almost an hour. Finally, I found delicate, handmade silver earrings shaped like blueberry leaves in My Darling Maine. Perfect! I wore them to work my first day back - and lost one. I was heartbroken. But I contacted Victoria to buy a replacement, and she took the time to send me individual pictures of every pair of blueberry leaf earrings she had in the shop (because they're all unique!) so I could choose. And then she mailed them to me in Virginia. Now my beautiful blueberry leaf earrings are a sweet reminder of our family vacation in Maine AND of the power kindness can have over loss. Thank you, Victoria!!!
