This park may not be a "destination" in itself (as it lacks "resort" amenities and amusements for the kids), but mid-northern Mane should be; and this is THE place to stay when you are here. Pumpkin Patch RV Resort is quiet - even when it is mostly full. HUGE spaces (giving us a "yard" bigger than we had at our "stick-and-brick") with immaculately maintained utilities! Quite frankly, they pretty much ruined us for any other park anywhere as they have set the bar so high. The staff (both work-campers and the owners) were ridiculously friendly and helpful. The water pressure was great. WiFi was as good as it gets (never had any issues streaming HD on our 50"). The grounds were well maintained (mowed weekly, pest and/or weed control, quaint landscaping). And the whole thing is set at the outskirts of the cute little town of Hermon (with some fast-food, grocery store, etc.), and within an easy drive of Bar Harbor on Mount Desert Island (oh - and right next to Bangor/Brewer along the Penobscot River). We heartily recommend this place!

    Beautiful view from the resort!

We did not get our $500 deposit back. We are full-time travelers, so we always stay 3-4 weeks. We did not pay a deposit for a "monthly" stay, which is $750 non-refundable (this information is found in the bowels of their website - not on the reservation page), as we were not on a monthly plan. In my opinion, we should have been given our refund as stated by the KOA guidelines. It is true that the KOA Corp does not get involved in these disputes, but I feel they need to know how their franchises are being run. Sadly, even when we do get our rig fixed, we will find another place to stay.

SO Many YouTube and google maps and Yelp reviews to show you what awful business owners they are ! They canceled my reservation and stole over 100$ Koa corporate is of no use and you are on your own. For your own sake- read the reviews. These people shouldn't be in business. On YouTube they have several reviews of the man being angry and crass and kicking people out. He was near yelling at me when i called to cancel--- anger issues- please get help and then maybe your star level would raise you Thief!!!! Combative, rude and retaliated at my calling corporate by cancelling this- very vindictive!! Obviously I will dispute with my credit card company and make it clear everywhere online that these people outright steal from you..... all emails to support.. @KOA @bangorkoa @bangor/holdenkoa Very combative people that certainly did not bring out the best in me but to be able to literally steal--- 125$? I have proof in emails that i did not want to cancel if there would be a fees. Now they stole my money and will likely resell the spot. That is not right!!! Check all my reviews - most are positive -- people like these combative thieves that wouldn't know customer service if it smacked them in the face----they the entire reason I started writing reviews. Take a look at all the reviews and all the places I am staying and while I don't love people stealing from me this is about customer service and liars... not money... principle and theft......THEIVes.. I can't deal with this much more while I am still in the middle of a very long trip..... when I get home I will Deal with this as this doesn't end here... who steals?!!!!!!!! What is this world coming to when a company literally steals? Ok venting now...thieves! ii spoke to corporate and they said I am on my own after telling me that on event weekends the full amount is charged-- the full amount was not charged so their "event should not have applied to me". These people say otherwise. Im just a traveler that trusted a bad brand and the wrong KOA... 2 months bonding trip with my 10 year old.....over 20 KOAs-- and this one literally stole from me. And will now resell it and steal again... 124.$ and I never said to cancel if there was a fee and made it clear we would be there..... they threw a temper tantrum and stole from me... If anything goes wrong on your stay here - they will blame YOU and somehow steal you $$$ And if they are reading this.. please reinstate our reservation as I made it clear I would go to our 30th National Park if we had to pay regardless. Re-instate or refund!!! I never gave permission and while I want to meet you people As much as I do a rattlesnake, I do not like thieves masking as a legitimate business...

We were at a water and electric site right on the pond, which was the best part about the spot. Otherwise, you are packed in like sardines. We did not find anyone at the campground to be very friendly, both neighbors/other patrons and the (limited) staff. The guy at the office on Friday and Monday was pretty surly. The weekend staff did not impress either. Unlike other campgrounds we have stayed at, there was really no one out patrolling the grounds during the day or at night. Which is both good and bad, I guess. Good because you can basically do what you want, and bad because of, well, the exact same thing. Our area of the campground was pretty quiet the days we were there, at night we were definitely the loudest people around...and aside from our 4-year-old sometimes talking loudly/excitedly, we weren't very loud. One thing I did not like about our stay was that the campground seems to encourage and not even attempt to stop kids catching and torturing the pond wildlife, like bullfrogs, tadpoles and fish. While we were there there was a gaggle of obnoxious kids catching and killing things, both accidentally and on purpose. Yet the camp store sells fish nets to help them do those things. As an avid animal lover, I found it disturbing that the campground did nothing to deter people from abusing the wildlife, and even seemed to encourage it by selling kid-size fishing nets. Let's see, what else? The bathrooms were "eh." The floor was constantly wet and muddy. The first 36 hours we were there I assumed it was because it was raining, but the following 36 hours was pretty dry and the floors were still like that for some reason. Showers were free and had hot water, but were pretty cramped. Be prepared for lots of bugs, mosquitoes and ants everywhere. We did not try the pool or the pancake breakfast. And there were no tractor rides to be found, even though it's mentioned on their website. The main attraction here is the price and the location to amenities in Bangor. It is right next to the airport, so planes can be very loud, but that did not bother us much. It was fine for what it was/what we needed but we feel no need to ever go back.

NOT good. Find in this review my opinion of this campground. The facts I assert are supported with…read moredocuments, statements and a copy of the message sent to me by the campground themselves. My 9 year old son and I went there on August 17 to go camping overnight. The owners wife was at the desk and I knew immediately that there was just something wrong when we first walked in. She didn't smile nor was she talkative for some reason. I dont have a mean bone in my body and am always polite to people, especially in front of my son. After getting the site nailed down and paperwork completed, she told me to run my debit card in order to pay the 24.50 for the night. I did so, she quizzically looked at her computer and told me I had to swipe my card again. Now many MANY times in the past, I have been asked to swipe more than once and my first reply is ALWAYS "My card isn't going to be charged twice is it?" I asked the same exact thing with this lady, and she told me no. I was hesitant because she also said "that was strange" when my card didn't take. So I very VERY reluctantly swiped a second time. After another quizzical look on her face, she TOLD me to swipe a third time. No apologies or anything, just a demand. This time I stepped back with my son right beside me and told her "I really don't want to swipe the card again." Now I did NOT raise my voice, but told her that sentence in a firm tone. I have a deep voice, so it may have sounded sterner then what she was used to. I will admit that I was slightly annoyed but who wouldn't be? I did NOT however become angry by any stretch of the imagination nor did I blame her or have an attitude. Immediately when I said that she literally hollered at me in front of my son telling me in effect that it wasn't her fault! and I didn't don't have to stay at the campground if I did not want to....Are you kidding me???? She said it in a fashion that was so very loud, intimidating and insanely off the wall that my son immediately put his hands up and covered his ears and closed his eyes. He was scared of how she acted. I turned to him, told him it was okay and immediately spoke to her in a soft tone letting her know that I was not blaming her and everything would be fine. I could not believe I was the one almost apologizing for HER behavior but I did so to ease my childs fears. I did not want to slide my card a third time. My family was there already waiting on us at the campground and my son was looking forward to seeing his cousins, and had been for a week. So to diffuse the situation, I spoke with her and slid my card a third time so my son would stop being scared. I thought I would handle this AFTER our stay, when he wasnt around. After swiping it a third time, I very politely asked her if it was going to charge my account three times. She said it wouldnt. A couple seconds later she said "Looks like we charged you more than once. I asked her if she was going to make sure they took care to credit me back any overcharges. She said she was doing it as we were speaking. We finished up and here I am over a week later. Just found out from my bank that she did NOT take care of it as promised. After trying to call her multiple times and leaving a message on facebook after a week, she told me her husband was going to look into it. So here we are, my bank told me THEY were going to take care of it. I finally got a message from Paul Bunyan a week later that it was going to take a few days for my refund to be deposited. We will see. A couple hours passed at the campground while we were enjoying family when a couple of my nieces came up to me telling me that the owners wife was telling other customers about me and that she "didnt care if I stayed or left" and that I was an ....expletive....Thats real nice. These are the facts of our visit and if Paul Bunyan wants to dispute these facts, please feel free to post your office video and audio to show everyone what occurred that day. I am sure they have some sort of security camera in the office. So instead of either calling me out, saying I am the one lying or that I was the one who was rude and obnoxious, show the video. I implore you. I want everyone to see just how scared you made my son. So in ending, Paul Bunyan campground will never EVER be visited by my family again and I urge you folks to check your bank accounts if you have ever had to swipe your card more than once here. I cannot ever trust them again. Did they apologize you ask? When I left to go to my van to turn it off because it was taking a long time, that same crazy lady told MY SON.."Sorry it is taking so long". THATS IT!!!! This is unacceptable behavior, especially since they call themselves a family campground. They couldnt even apologize to my son for needlessly and crazily scaring him Shame on you.

Their venue is closer to Bangor than some of the other outfitters that do this, however, the ride to get to the pond is at least an hour. You ride in a van and some of the roads are bumpy. The guide narrates a little, but I feel he could have done more. The home base is nice and they sell souvenirs, coffee, and snacks. They have a bathroom building with changing areas. There was lots of water on the ground there, so I wonder why it wasn't moped. Once you get into the van, there is no bathroom area (unless there is a porta potty that I missed. The scenery by the water was very beautiful and peaceful and even though no moose were spotted, it was still a very nice experience. Our guide Zack did a great job of chatting and sharing nature facts while we rode. Worth noting is that the second half hour of the ride is pretty bumpy on a dirt road. Also, if you go during black fly season you might want to consider a face net. They weren't too bad on the pond, but they tend to fly directly towards your eyes and nose, and the net keeps them off. Once we got to the water we suited up with life jackets and Zack helped us into the canoes. We paddled for around an hour and ended up seeing 3 different moose on the water plus another 2 on the ride home! We were able to float for around 30 minutes in the canoe, just observing the moose eating. It was a bit of a trek to get here from Bar Harbor but totally worth it!
