The owners were warm and welcoming, offering great local suggestions and directions for places to explore in the area. Their friendly attitude really set the tone for a relaxing stay. The campground is beautifully maintained, with clean bathrooms and showers (always stocked with plenty of soft toilet paper--definitely not the scratchy kind!) and a well-kept that made everything easy to access. The grounds are mostly flat, so setting up tents should be a breeze. RV campers will also appreciate the easy-access back-in and pull-through sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp hookups. Our RV site had water and electricity, which was perfect for our needs. One of the standout features was the peaceful pond, filled with lily pads, giant bullfrogs, and tadpoles getting ready to join the chorus at night. It added a serene, natural feel to the campground that we really enjoyed. There's also plenty of vegetation and space between sites, giving a sense of privacy and shade throughout the park. Families will love the playgrounds and toys for the kids, while practical amenities like laundry facilities, outdoor sinks with hot water for dishwashing, and Wi-Fi make life easier for longer stays. A small camp store on-site sells firewood, ice, and essential items you may have forgotten. The fire rings and picnic tables at each site made it easy to enjoy meals outdoors. The campground had a great sense of humor, with funny signs scattered throughout--especially near the restrooms--which added a quirky charm. Trash bins were conveniently placed near the entrance, making clean-up quick before heading out for the day. Mystic Campground is pet-friendly, and we enjoyed chatting with several friendly seasonal campers, who made us feel right at home. Check-in time is 3 PM, but you can arrive earlier for just a $10 fee. We heard the campground hosts a fantastic Fourth of July celebration--sadly, we had to leave before the festivities, but it gives us a great reason to come back next year. Mens room under construction and unavailable, with no notice before booking! So called store had very little and wouldn't have mattered as office/store never open when posted. Sold out of firewood by Saturday morning. If management issues resolved, would be a great place.

The paddling was more difficult than I expected, but Dan was great about guiding me down the stretches I was struggling through. He was extremely knowledgeable about Maine ecology and history, sharing information and stories with us as we made our way down the river. The campsites all were beautiful. Dinner and breakfast cooked over an open fire every day, with an impressive and delicious menu. This trip was definitely a splurge for our family, but well worth it. I would highly recommend a trip with Smoking Rivers if you find yourself in the Bangor area.

My sister and I only stayed for one night so my review is not based on a lengthy stay. The positives: - The price was $115 per night with $11 tax. Not a bad price for a night. - Spacious room we had a suite of two rooms with two beds per room, full bathroom, full kitchen, living room area, arm chair, sofa and balcony over looking the river behind the hotel. - The room for the most part seemed to be very clean. I did see reviews about bugs in the windows/doorways/corners however this motel is has a river behind it and it's a woody area. Bugs are to be expected and they will always be around a hotel room in a location like this. In our room we did not see anything extreme like what was posted prior but keep in mind everyone is entitled to their own point of view. - The view in the morning at dusk is amazing of the river. It was a beautiful chilly fall morning that you could see the mist rising off the river and with the trees it was a wonderful autumn morning view. - The beds were very soft and comfortable. Plenty of towels were provided (4 Towels, 4 Hand Towels and 4 Wash Clothes). - I arrived there at 10pm and the manager told me prior to keep her posted on my arrival as the front desk closes at 11pm. - Express check out is provided just let the front desk know that you will need it. The Negatives: - I did have a small snag with the reservation process. I called two weeks prior to my arrival and made the reservation over the phone. When I called back the following week my reservation wasn't listed. Luckily the hotel still had rooms available and the original price given to me was honored. If you book over the phone make sure to get a confirmation number from the person you speak to. - The coffee maker did not work and we did read the directions prior to using it. - There was only one TV and it was very far away from my where my bed was located. - One of the towels had a bunched up dried hair in it which was not ours. - No conditioner was provided only Shampoo - Front Desk is only opened about 11pm it's not a 24hr front desk.
