I recently had cause to take the Concord Trailways bus from Bangor to Portland. My wife was making a long drive north and I was going to meet her in Portland to take over the last two hours of driving in Maine. And if we could hang out in Portland for a while also, that was a bonus. I went online to check into the cost and details. I saw that buses left Bangor for Portland about every two hours. (Greyhound only seemed to have one mid-morning trip available.) My ride to Bangor was going to land me at the station just 15 minutes ahead of departure, so I ordered the ticket for 7 a.m. The ticket is not easily refundable, but I saw that seats were not assigned and the ticket would be good for any trip to Portland. (Though later I wanted to double check that, and that info was only in one place on their site and hard for me to find. My only minor complaint about the ticket process.) So I arrived 15 minutes before departure and got right in line, so I didn't have to sweat out going inside to buy a ticket. Therefore, I can't report on the inside of the Bangor station at all, since I didn't see it. 30 seconds before we left, a young guy jumped out of a vehicle and ran over to board. He slept all the way to Portland, so I guess he had a rough night. But he made it! The bus itself was terrific. The seat was comfortable and with ear buds ai brought I listened to classical music, while others watched local CBS television. There is a charging station at your elbow so I charged my devices as I used them. The seat beside me was empty until Augusta, when I obtained a seat mate to Portland. But unlike with plane seats, there was enough room for me not to feel crowded in. I didn't see any free water or anything as some reviewers mention, but perhaps that is for those extending farther south than Portland. The transportation center in Portland is large, clean and safe. There are vending machines and clean rest rooms. If you've a mind to, you can also board the Northeaster train from here for trips to Boston or Brunswick. Or a bus to Boston, of course. I would not hesitate to use Concord's bus service if the need ever arises. read more

The people working in Bangor this morning were best. They went out of their way to accommodate me: from assisting me at the counter, to taking and loading my luggage before I even got in line, and then helping with the seat on the bus. I commend them for their excellent service. read more

Clean, prompt, well managed bus service. Safe and a lot less expensive than air travel

Flying in and out of Bangor is expensive. Taking a Concord bus to Logan saved me about $300. Concord buses are spacious, clean, and really comfortable. Lots of leg and elbow room. All the buses have a bathroom and free wifi onboard. They play a movie on each leg between Boston and Bangor. They give you bottled water and a bag of pretzels. The bus drivers are always nice. Our driver today, Don. R., even sang to us! This trip, I needed to get to Cleveland from Bangor. It was a $400+ plane ticket with at least one layover. $79 ticket roundtrip to Logan is an excellent alternative. The bus stops at your terminal door, always on time. So convenient! And the savings are terrific! Way to go Concord! That's service. read more

So traveling by bus isn't the most glamorous way to go somewhere, but if you want to be really green, then it's great. Going to Boston is a great deal (only $69 R/T from Bangor) and then you don't have to worry about parking a car, fuel, tolls, TRAFFIC or navigation. You end up right at South Station where you can hop on the Subway. I was really happy with the trip. They were on schedule and pretty clean. Best part was the free wi-fi that had good signals the whole trip, even with several laptop users. Movies on 12" tv's were a nice distraction and they had free waters and pretzels, no big deal but a nice touch. My feet were a little cold on one portion of the trip but I may have been sitting next to a vent. Very comfy on the way back. Bus was full, plan ahead by arriving early to get your ticket/claim your seat. read more

Concord in my opinion is definitely one of the best bus companies out there ahead of most in having very friendly bus drivers as well as clean odorless buses. Having ridden them a couple of times I have never had an awkward situation or hassle come up yet. read more

I was impressed at first. Very professional and friendly staff. However, as we were about ready to go at 0700 exactly, the driver refused to wait for someone who arrived at that minute. She had even called ahead and said she might be a minute or two late. We were not already running late, it was a matter of driver preference. Unkindness never pays off. Multiple people witnessed this. I will be avoiding this bus line in the future. read more

This bus station is the epitome of unprofessional and inconsistent --the two characteristics every bus station should strive to be the opposite of. As I was driving toward the bus station to catch my 11 o'clock southbound bus I watch both busses pull out of the station at 10:57. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Three minutes is plenty of time for one person to buy a ticket and board the bus. As I walked in the man behind the desk said "next bus leaves at one" to which I said no it leaves at eleven as he looked down at his watch and said too bad. Wtf man?!?! I didn't do anything wrong here. Cutting it close is one thing but to send both your busses early is just asking for pissed off customers like me. Many times I've been a passenger on their busses (not to mention many other busses at other stations) that would wait until ten minutes after the scheduled departure time to leave the station. After riding this bus tens of times since being in the Bangor area I will ALWAYS be taking my business to Dysart's greyhound line. I would gladly give this establishment a negative five stars for deliberate rude behavior. I do not suggest using their services unless you enjoy being disrespected and unvalued. read more
