A driver returned after hours to pick us up at Bangor and deliver us safely and comfortably to our hotel in Bar Harbor so we could join our group tour. I had booked this shuttle weeks in advance to pick me up at the airport and take me to the accommodations on the island. After they hadn't showed up for a while, I gave her a call to ask if I was waiting in the wrong place or something. She explained that she decided to cancel my reservation because she got asked to take a larger party with more fares. She said she tried to call me an hour ago, but I didn't answer. Well of course not, I was on an airplane. Zero compensation, zero apology, exept "I'm sorry you didn't answer your phone, but I won't be driving you" I took a cab at the cab stand that actually cost about the same. He told me that this business does this all the time. I've never been fucked over so hard by a small business. Their websitr should mention a policy about what happens when they cancel a reservation on short to no notice. read more

I have not experienced any frustrations with the service as stated by some of the other reviewers. This is a small, family owned business in an area that can be affected very easily by weather and flight delays. This is the first, and perhaps only, time I ever have posted/will post a Yelp review, but I felt like it was important to warn others about this company. I was teaching in the Boston area for the summer and was traveling on a Friday up to Maine to see my wife and son. I booked a bus ticket from Boston to Bangor and made a reservation with Bar Harbor Shuttle for their 7:00 shuttle from Bangor bus station to Bar Harbor. When I made the reservation (about a week in advance), I was told that the cost of the shuttle would be $40. If it'd been much more than that, it would have been cheaper for me just to rent a car. Flash forward to the day I was traveling: I was teaching in the morning, so my phone was off, and then I turned it back on at lunchtime when I was heading out for the bus station in Boston. I had two messages, about 30 minutes apart, from Bar Habor Shuttle. The first one - left at about 10:30 - said that they needed to know if I still wanted a shuttle. The second one - left about 30 minutes later - said the same thing, only more urgently. So I called them and nobody answered, and I left a voice mail stating that I did in fact want the shuttle, just as I'd said a week ago when I made my reservation. I then called back a while later to confirm that they received my voice mail, and I was told that they hadn't (from what I can now tell, they never really check their voice mail) and that they had canceled my shuttle. I made it clear to them that this was not OK and that they needed to get me to Bar Harbor as agreed. The same woman called me back a few minutes later and said that my shuttle run was back on. Then, a few minutes after that - after I was on the bus to Bangor (so it was too late to change my travel plans), a different woman called me and said that the price of my shuttle would now be $110 rather than $40 because they didn't have any other passengers. I wasn't happy. They said that everybody else had canceled their shuttle reservations because of canceled flights into Bangor, that they couldn't make a profit if they charged $40 for a single passenger on this shuttle run, and that they couldn't control whether flights were canceled or not. I explained to them that what they CAN control is whether they tell customers when they make reservations that their prices could nearly triple under certain circumstances. I was never told about this in any way/shape/form. I said that they could also control whether they adhered to the agreement we made when I made the reservation, which was a shuttle run for $40. I also explained that, had I known about this before I got on the bus, I could've simply rented a car for cheaper. They offered to make it up to me by giving me a $15 discount on my return trip. I explained that a $15 discount did not make up for their tripling the price on the other part of the trip. I think that the word "yell" is very over-used, but I am not at all exaggerating when I say that the woman from the shuttle company began to yell at me. Remarkably, she seemed to think that this whole situation was somehow my fault. I tried several times to reach the woman with whom I originally made my reservation and left her a voice mail asking her to call me, but I never heard a word from her. I originally chalked this experience up to mismanagement, but a cab driver in Bar Harbor said that he got plenty of business driving Bar Harbor Shuttle customers whose reservations had been canceled or changed by this company at the eleventh hour. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Bangor International Airport, August 16, 2016. Driver of the Bar Harbor shuttle Mercedes van was exiting a car wash on griffin road. Driver was aggressive and pulled out in front of the vehicle I was traveling in on way to airport. Shuttle was headed to BIA as well, via a different route. I was dropped off at departures and the van/driver was directly in front of us. As my driver pulled away I approached the shuttle driver on pass anger side of vehicle and spoke through the open window. I stated he was a bit aggressive pulling out of the car wash and pulled in front of my vehicle. He immediately was confrontational and advised the he "was not the guy to F&#% with". He furthered to give his address and said we could "take it back to the car wash". A surprising response from a professional driver and representative of this Bar Harbor shuttle. With such an aggressive temper, disrespectful attitude and lack of acknowledgement for what could have been a mistake, I would question putting the lives of me or my family in his hands on an already dangerous roadway. Bar Harbor Shuttle should qualify their drivers and the safety they provide to their clients read more

I made a reservation online a couple of weeks in advance. The shuttle picked me up in Bangor 15 min. early and took me and two other people who were staying at the same place to Mount Desert Island. Very helpful and pleasant driver. Ask where they stop because they don't go everywhere on MDI. The $45 fare is much cheaper than renting a car. A great service. read more

Bar Harbor shuttle eliminated the guess work on having to get a rental car to go to and from the airport in Bangor to Bar Harbor. We landed LATE at Midnight and James was there to great us, got us safely into Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor Shuttle (Mrs. Erika) even accommodated a change that we made at the last minute and refunded our money for the return shuttle. They are the best shuttle service there and if you do not want to mess around with all the rental cars and enjoy Bar Harbor, book them!!! read more
