Tent to 45' class A, this place can handle it. Plenty of space and quiet. We will stay here again when back. Great owners on site, too!

Provided fire pit in full hook up site

I can not say enough great things about this campground. Right on the shore. We dug for clams and found mussels right at the campground. So come prepared to prepare fresh seafood if you're into that. The views couldn't be better. Everything is SO clean and so well taken care of. The couple who runs the campground are on the top of the list of the nicest people I've ever met. We booked a full hook up site 6 months in advance and paid in full at the time. Last minute my fiancé who's in the oilfield had to go on hitch and couldn't make the trip which means neither could our RV. So I was now brining a tent. I called to see if they wanted to switch our site. They left us in the site we originally booked and even gave me an air mattress to borrow and a cook stove to borrow. They walk you to your site and explain the grounds. They stop in to see how you're doing. But they are never overbearing. They definitely know how to run this place! This campground is a good 40 or so minutes from Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor though so as long as you know to plan around that you'll be good. I would 10/10 recommend this place to anyone!

Folks, I don't really know what to say other than 'you just gotta come here!'…read moreI love this place! I came through on a hum last year, stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. Told Shirley (the owner) I would be back "next year" to help out, and here I am, Aug. 8th, 2019, sad to leave after spending 4 weeks in the grand teepee, helping out around the camp. Off route 1, into the woods, to grandmama's RV we go! But it is so much more... tent sites, group sites, great trails, and great vibe from the surrounding community. But what you really want to know is; this is a great base for exploring coastal Maine & Downeast. Now understand 2 things... Downeast is on the coast, but when the term 'downeast' is used, it is very much a reference to the culture of the folk who grew up and live here and have also known it through the generations of their family. Once you get here, you're in the thick of what "coastal Maine" really is without the crowds of Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, etc.. from Cottonwood you will find within 20 mins. Never crowded beaches with all the beauty of those other places... and you can also make a day trip of getting to Easport or Calaise and just breath in New Brunswick! Oh yeah, bring your passport... One of the other things I love about camping here, are the various small sites that are suitable for bicyclers and bikers who travel with minimal gear and need to stop for short stays. Even though its right off the road, once in, you're cast into the woods! Oh yeah, and I can't think of another camp with such a great bath house along this route... Cottonwood Camping is truly a great experience and my pick as a base for exploring Downeast, Coastal Maine, the far north on the east side of the U.S. Shirley Cotton makes it happen! She is the BOMB!!

I can honestly say this place was easy to find and very photogenic. Easy to recommend.read more

We stayed July 4th weekend and when we booked in January this was one of the last tent sites available. Granted it was July 4th, but still something to think about. There are a few lucky tent sites that overlook the water which would be incredible. Maybe next time we can book earlier and snag one. Each site has everything you will need -- a platform for your tent (perfect incase it rains), an electrical outlet, running water, a picnic table and a firepit. It is clean and well-kept, and you are never too far from a bathroom / shower facility. Just note that the shower is $1 for 5 minutes and you'll need quarters. There is a main house where you can buy wood and other supplies. During non-covid times they also have a gathering place where you can buy snacks. I believe the rate is around $50 dollars a night but I'm not sure if the rate changes depending on the weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was higher than normal over July 4th. This is a wonderful campsite and I'd happily return. In comparison, I've also camped at the Oceanside KOA in Bar Harbor and this campsite is way better. Be sure to check it out!

It's awesome having someone ask if they can wait or if you are ok with them coming down right away. We were ok with a visit while we set-up and Jillian told us about things in the area. If you are going to visit I would recommend a week at the min. due to how the weather changes. We arrived and it was nice and sunny but by that evening it was quite overcast. I wanted to get a picture of the sunrise and set my alarm to get up at 4:45am.....just to see a heavy fog over the bay, oh well back to bed I went, but check the weather forecast to see if there are clouds / fog before trying to get the sunrise picture! We took part in the lobster and oyster dinner that was offered during our stay. Baked beans were on the menu and all of the guest brought a side dish, Rob goes over lobsters and how to prepare them, and then we ate our meal. Afterwards they had a fire and Rob played the guitar and sang, he is quite good and if you play he welcomes all to join. Since I only play the radio I wasn't much use for this part of the evening. Rob and Peggy have done a great deal of work making this a travel destination when visiting Maine. My wife loves working in the "dirt" and they have a communal garden that she loved spending sometime in during our stay. She planted items and seeds and I even helped with some weeding. Also had some packages shipped here prior to our arrival and Peggy kept them safe until we arrived. The stairs down to the water, while they still needed a handrail are plenty wide enough for two people to walk down holding hands it's called the "Sweetheart Stairway" so as to keep your balance. They do not have onsite showers or any laundry facility's currently. We have a washer and dryer so it wasn't an issue for use. The WiFi was awesome, able to stream on our TV's and do anything we wanted with our laptops. We loved our time here and have it bookmarked as a stop for any future trips to the area. We purchased a week long pass ($35) to Arcadia National Park and went there just about everyday. You can park in several areas to walk the trails or bike (no e-bikes allowed on the trails) NOW FOR THE BEST PART.......LOBSTER.....We had lobster rolls from Knotty Lobster and picked up some fresh at Chipman's Wharf and you won't be disappointed if you love lobster.

We chose staying here based on other reviews that we read and we loved every minute of it. We drove to Bar Harbor on two occasions and took the nearby passenger ferry on another day. We highly recommend the ferry as the views from the water were amazing. Don't pass up an opportunity to also visit the "other" Acadia National Park / Schoodic Point here on the Winter Harbor side. The other major plus of staying here is the spectacular dark night sky with all the magnificent stars.

Tried it under new corporate run in 2025 for first time & had to pre-select our site but then with the old system, once you were on your site, it was yours. You pulled in and chose whatever open available site & then went to the office to register. Now you also have to choose ahead of time how many days. With this being said we wanted to stay an extra night. But, now we had to pack everything up & move the RV to another site (of their choice) for just 1 extra night because someone was coming in for the site we were already on for the past 5 days,... (that they also were forced to choose ahead of time). ‍ The old original system worked beautifully! Do not like the new requirements or the new jacked up prices. Miss the Robbin's family owning & running the CG.

We walked around the other campsites and they were quite close to each other and not as much privacy. The Picnic table at our campsite could be updated. The Campsite overall has a fairly flat area and plenty of space for our 6 person tent, coleman tent over the picnic table and chairs. The check in process was easy and directions to our campsite were easy to follow from the map they gave us. Note, there is a water station next to the check in house (we only found about it on our last day). You will have to get firewood (easily found as you come into Acadia), ice ($4-5 a bag) and shower (practically outside the campground for 1.75 cents for 1 min 45 sec of shower ...add 25cents for extra 15 seconds). The bathrooms are clean. The only thing was that they ask you not to was at the sink ; rather bring water to your campsite, wash it there and just bring back the dirty water for disposal - bring a water bucket or two. The campground is very centrally located and we found ourselves only about 20 minutes or less from all the places we wanted to go to.
