I went there last week to have several keys made for our front door. Somehow, the key broke off in our lock. The gentleman that helped me was very friendly. On other occasions, I've gone to different hardware stores for the same reason. I had needed keys made and unfortunately, when I arrived home and tried the keys, they didn't work. Initial service felt a little bit "you get what you pay for" -- I got by far the cheapest quote around for replacement of two door locks, which seemed great, and people at the shop seemed incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and flexible. When the person came for installation, the top lock seemed to stick somewhat badly, making it difficult to turn and lock/unlock, whereas the original lock had aligned quite well. He asked me for some WD-40, which I fortunately had, and applied that and insisted it'd be fine within a day or so. After several days...it still wasn't. I had paid cash per request and was a bit nervous, but was ultimately able to get them back out to adjust the lock so that it closed properly a few days later. The repair/reinstallation didn't take much time, and left me wondering a bit why it couldn't have been done properly the first time, but hey, ultimately they fixed it and it works fine now, so really no harm. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon, I thought they would be closed being that they are a small local mom & pop hardware store. I usually go to Lowe's or Home Depot for all of my Hardware store needs, I decided to shop local and support this local business being that businesses such as these are slowly fading away + I didn't want to go all the way to Lowe's for something simple. This hardware store is small but fully stocked anything and everything you need was available. I specifically came in for some Easy-off oven cleaner, I was happy to find this right away at a reasonable price. The store was nice and cool and customer service help was offered and available. This is my go-to hardware store and locksmith in the South Slope. I am a gardener and a member of the local community garden at 15th Street & 6th Avenue and I always go here first because Ayman (the proprietor) and his family are knowledgable, kind and helpful and usually have what I am looking for. The store is an old-fashioned Mom and Pop with long narrow aisles and things can be hard to find, but just ask them. Moreover, they are very kind. We live a few blocks away and a few weeks ago my kid got locked out of a neighbor's home that s/he was housesitting while they were out of town. I called them to see if they could come over and open the door and Ayman's nephew came over and, although he was unable to open the door (we ultimately got the key from another neighbor) he was very professional and did not damage the door and refused my attempt to pay him for his time. This shameful business is price gouging during the Coronavirus epidemic. I walked in because they had a sign in the window about having N95 masks in stock. I wanted to get a box for my girlfriend's sister who works at a hospital in Long Island and has run out of masks. I asked them how much they are and they said $6 for one mask. They were also charging $25 for a container of Clorox wipes. This business owner is pathetic and I encourage anyone living in Park Slope to opt for the hardware store directly across the street from these fools. read more

I've been going here for supplies for painting and my apartment for years. They take care of the customers there- I love them. They have lumber in the basement- especially good to know if you're one of the artists in the neighborhood. When I needed to frame a drawing fast, they cut and fitted plexi and wood for it, taking over an hour working with me to figure out the coolest looking frame for a show. There's no way I'd have gotten that sort of start to finish service at home depot. I don't know if they even let you make any cuts there anymore- this one project must have taken about 20 minutes worth of cutting. I can't say enough good things about this little store. read more

I had Angel the locksmith come and install new locks. He was almost 30 minutes late. He did a good job though. I gave him a small tip. Then I realized he left door shavings all over the floor. I said, "could you please clean that up?" He said, "we never clean." Great policy!! Then I had to give my credit card info over the phone. Never using these guys again. I have a light-up gingerbread house that stopped lighting this year. Thought something was wrong with the cord; upon further inspection, I noticed a little door in the plug that, when you opened it, revealed a tiny fuse. Realized that the fuse had probably burnt out. Took the cord to Leopoldi's, and the guy looked at it and said he didn't carry fuses that small. He said I could buy a whole new cord for $9. Reasoning that the plug came with a handy door for a reason, I decided to check one more hardware store for a replacement fuse. Called Park Slope Hardware and the guy immediately knew what I was talking about and said he had a replacement fuse. Trotted down there and he looked at the plug and said, "You know, there's a replacement fuse right here." He opened a tiny plastic thingamabob on the cord that was so small I hadn't even noticed it, and lo and behold, a replacement fuse was inside! He replaced the burnt out one & plugged the cord in to make sure the bulb lit (it did). I said, "I feel like I should pay you something!" And he said, "Don't worry about it, miss. Have a great day!" SO FANTASTIC! Not to mention knowledgeable.... Dear Nice Dude at Park Slope Hardware: Thanks for saving me $9, and for keeping one more cord out of a landfill. read more
