What a wonderful neighborhood business. Every time I was stumped with a problem, I'd walk over to Greshlers and talk to the people behind the desk. It was the first time I remember seeing a woman behind the desk also. I had a problem with a stuck lock on my gate and instead of trying to sell us a metal clipper, that might not work, they offered to lend us a small cordless multi-metal cutter and safety glasses. It cut through the lock and we were able to open our gate and have our movers finish their job. It is wonderful to have a community minded shop so close to where I live. They have been in the South Slope for 100 year and I wish them another 100 yers there! read more

I've been going there for years and as a woman I appreciate not having assumptions made about whether I know what I'm doing, but if I'm not sure they just merely tell me. Not patronizing. This is the best hardware store in this part of Brooklyn. The staff is extra knowledgeable and helpful. There is very little wandering around in this store. You come up to the counter when it's your turn and they ask you what you need. Then they grab it for you and you pay for it. The system works. Often they invite to the back to choose your item. The result is a very streamlined and efficient buying experience. I never had a bad experience there after 10 years of going there. read more

My had a wonderful experience with your Shipping & Returns department; specifically Jeff and Michael. I placed an order early in December and expected to receive it within a week or ten days. After a week had gone by I listened to a message on my phone advising my order had never been shipped or routed through your store accurately so you were re-ordering my hardware and this was a "heads-up" on the delay. That was great customer service right there. Just before Christmas, not only did i receive original order but the second one came as well. (Mix-up in the postal I believe), which prompted my call to Jeff and Mike. Trying to return the items was my plan but i was advised i could keep the extra rail. This may be one of the best hardware stores in the five boroughs. I went to 10 of the "best" hardware stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn looking for a specific screw (12/24 machine screw with a slotted pan head). Not a single store had it, but I went to Greschler's and they had the exact screw I needed. I think I waited all of 30 seconds before the guy who was helping me came back with the two screws I needed. Unbelievable! I could have saved so much time by going to Greschler's first. After I made my purchase, I was talking to one of the guys behind the counter and they said that many stores who don't carry certain products have to order from them! Go figure! Greschler's is far out of my normal circuit, but definitely worth the haul. Plus they open at 7:00 AM which is super convenient for me. read more

Moreover, I insisted that the item NOT be made in China. The sales man assured me the item was NOT made in China but in the USA. So I placed the order on line for a 2 3/4" x 10" Door Plate Solid Brass. The item I received by mail was a ESCUTCHEON 2 3/4" x 10" Door Plate Solid Brass Made in China! Was looking for a single 3/8 inch magnetic socket for a 1/4 inch drive ratchet. Not the easiest item to find. But Greschler's had it! Picked it up through Walmart at a good price and they shipped it it in a relatively short time frame. Best Customer Service hands down!! I call in my orders and they have it ready when my driver arrives, also if your not sure of the exact item you need, the workers are extremely patient. I rarely have to go anywhere else. This is 1st place I call when I need something and 10/10 if they do not have it, they can get it for me in record time. They are not just limited to Brooklyn.
