Amazing finds at this store. They are very helpful. Most people use this store as their 1st go-to for the more extensive jobs in these older homes. read more

Father & son hardware store that Carrie's great inventory on tools, hardware, unique materials to fix any thing in the house, apartments, outdoor patio, yard, doors, windows and steps and special glues and adhesives to repair anything in the kitchen or bathroom! I highly recommend them and always go there first! Beats the service at Home Depot or Lowe's! R & A serves the customer well! read more

While I was freaking out a couple hours in advance of a Halloween party because my original costume plan had failed, the staff at R & A were very reassuring and helped me find what I needed quickly while offering useful tips for how to best handle the materials without being condescending in the slightest. I wish I knew the name of the fellow who helped me; it's been over a month, but I haven't forgotten his kindness and contagious sense of calm. Thank you so much. read more

R & A Houseware - Victor he has what you need - Hardware Stores Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Victor and his team are one of Brooklyn's best kept secrets. Sure, this place is expansive with a ton of things packed in - some you need and some you don't - but most of the time you can always find what you need. Victor is incredibly sweet, helpful, and knowledgeable. If he doesn't have something, he will order it. I live nearby and he has become somewhat of a Brooklyn dad to me, helping me with things and going above and beyond the call of duty. I really cannot overstate what he and his shop have meant to me during my time here. As good as it gets. read more

This store has EVERYTHING!! An old fashioned family owned store (not a franchise). Great prices. Ask for anything and the staff knows exactly what you're looking for and where it is in the store. I'd encourage you to get off your couch, forget about Amazon, lower your carbon footprint, and get your item(s) immediately (not tomorrow or in 2 days - imagine that!). read more

Has abt everything you would need onnthe rush. Old man seems to have alpt of wisdome.

Great hardware store in terms of quality and selection -- this place really is the rare local establishment that has pretty much everything you could walk in and ask for. Prices are pretty good. The staff is very nice and helpful as well. The downside of having an outstanding selection in a relatively small space is that R&A is a claustrophobic's nightmare. The aisles are super narrow (the store is basically impossible to navigate if there are more than 3-4 people around because you're just getting in each other's way), the goods are stacked to the ceiling, and there's not much discernible organization. So you essentially need the assistance of a salesman to find anything, which is a real hassle if you have more than one or two items on your list. Pintchik on Flatbush, for example, doesn't have the same selection, but it's a much easier shopping experience. read more

Great resource for local shopping. Longest hours; open when most other local hardware stores are closed. lIfe saver at those times. Has almost everything. Been in the neighborhoof forever. read more

The people here kindly, easily, solved my problem. So grateful! On a Thursday night, I went in and described how I had a stripped screw stuck in a bed frame I had to take apart. Some questions, and they sold me a drill bit and a screw extractor for a few dollars. I struggled at home and still couldn't get the &*% screw out, so I walked the corner of the bed frame to R&A with the stripped, stuck screw in it. They nodded, said sure of course, and had it out in 60 seconds. Vise pliers! A place like Lowe's or Home Depot just isn't set up for this kind of neighborly problem solving. Thank you!!! read more

Everything you need with the added bonus of kind and helpful service. Whatever you need to move, improve, fix, or make - they've got it. A Brooklyn gem. read more

R&A is the kind of neighborhood hardware store that we're lucky to have. First of all they stock everything, and since it's a small mom+pop store, they select the items that work and customers keep coming back for. That's miles ahead of the home depots of the world already. But the real value is the mountain of subject matter expertise you get for free, just by walking into the store. These guys know every problem. From dealing with rodents snuggling into your ventilation system, to what type of draino to use on sewage systems. Which wrench works with what, and what tile adhesive is best for glass tile. On and on, plumping to carpentry, to general around the house repairs. They know & they help. To me this hidden value is lost when people shop at the bigger stores. Sure you get a better price, but imagine if you had to pay hundreds of dollars per hour for the lifetime knowledge that these guys have. Go here every chance you get. read more

These guys have everything. And helpful in giving recommendations. Great store. Need screws to anchor shelving unit to wall. I showed them a picture of what I was working with, and they gave the correct type and length of what I needed. read more

They charge 14% of what you purchase if you decide to return it because of the "credit card machine", bullcrap. That's what you get for trying to support local business instead of going to home depot/lowes! read more

This place--which has been here forever--doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's my favorite hardware store in the hood. The owner is a sweet, cherubic gentleman who always greets his customers warmly and provides helpful, intelligent guidance on hardware and fixit-related questions. Compared to the impossible-to-navigate, over-priced Pintchiks (where service is impossible to come by), this place is a breath of old-style, fresh air. It's not bright, fancified, or spiffy. But you can find everything--and I mean everything--inside, including houseware supplies of all kinds. So the next time you pass this diamond in the rough, check it out, take a good look around, and keep it in mind the next time you think you need something odd, obscure or downright unfindable. read more

Victor, Joey & Johnny make the trip to this iconic and neighborhood mainstay a wonderland of tools and equipment any DIY person would love . The guys know where everything is if you can describe your problem specifically and with clarity, they'll get you exactly what u need to get it fixed. Just be prepared to hear out Johnny's pro NY Giants commentary about their playoff hopes in spite-of! But we all love Johnny so...go Jets! Sorry Johnny! read more

Don't be daunted by the apperance, this is the best hardware store I've been in this city, and I've been to many. Why? Because the people who work there know all of the piles of stuff that's in the store and they are there to help you solve problems, not just find some part. I've come there a few times now with strange problems, and they have always figured out how it could be done. Come to them with your needs, explain it to them and let them help you work out the problem. read more

I needed a heavy, blunt object to weigh down a finicky antique plant stand, and R&A Hardware had just the thing! Wonderful service, shopping local saves the day again! read more

I am a 61 year old black business woman who believes in god and my integrity and human value was denied in this store. Its a very small store and everywhere I went I was followed. When I went to the counter to pay, the clerk following me sat down by the door. I asked the manager why was that guy following me. The manager said he wasn't following me, he was just getting something off the shelf. Unfortunate for that lie, when the clerk sat down he didn't have anything. I bought something from the store because that was why I went in and to prove that I hadn't come to steal. I will not be shopping in this store again. I choose not to spend money where I am not respected. read more

Not only is the staff kind and professional, their extensive knowledge of the neighborhood is what makes them completely indispensable. They know when rats came to what areas and why. The right plaster vs masonry bit needed. The right drain opener for a basement vs third floor apartment. AND they'll order whatever you need if it's not there, no problem. These boys are cigar-smoking, suspender-wearing ANGELS. May they never lose their building! read more

This place is a national treasure. It's got the personality of a typical Brooklyn store from the 1970's, the expertise of This Old House and the fair dealing of Andy Grifith's Mayberry. read more

Victor (owner) and Johnny have helped me fix over a dozen problems in my apartment. The best hardware store I've been to in Brooklyn. Super helpful staff. They have a bit of everything, you just have to ask. Only critique is they are a little lacking in bulk nuts/bolts/screws selection but have small packages of most sizes. Will continue to come here all the way from Crown Heights. read more

The owner, his son and the team are all very helpful! Real NY characters too. We always go here for our apt repairs. Brooklyn's best!

best hardware store I have been in! the place is kind of chaotic but the guys who work there know their stuff and are very very helpful. sometimes it takes a minute to get someone to help you, but once you have one of their attention, they are completely tuned into your request or question. I wanted to hang a load-baring shelf and they were extremely patient with my lack of even rudimentary knowledge about doing so. the owner walked me through the process with total lack of judgement, which truly assured me that I could do it myself. and I did!! I would go back for any of my hardware related needs in a second!! read more

I understand why these folks have 4.5 stars, they are overwhelmingly nice & quite helpful. I further want to emphasize that I support local mom & pop shops. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, everyone wants to feel like they paid a fair price on whatever product or merchandise we are purchasing right???? Well, in supporting the local mom & pop shop, I got taken for a ride! I paid double for an arrow t50 staple gun. This item is literally half (1/2) the price at Home Depot ($17.76) while at R & A Hardware it was double! ($35.oo)Literally! Furthermore they ( R&A Hardware) don't do nor offer price adjustments. So I have to endure the loss while they embrace the profit. Is it my imagination or is this simply unfair????? I will continue supporting mom & pop shops & small business, however, this shall be approached more cautiously. Very disappointed in R&A Hardware & cannot recommend this business to friends or family. read more
