Dan, the owner, is super friendly knowledgeable and professional. It's wonderful to shop at stores like these that are family owned and care about their customers. We need to make sure they stay around for a long time! read more

I had a really good experience at Dumbo Hardware. They have a nice selection of products, and the staff is friendly and genuinely knowledgeable. I never feel like I'm guessing--I can get answers and find what I need fast. read more

This is a wonderful mom and pop hardware store which has what you need 90% of the time. Unfortunately, people mistake and interpret cultural differences as rudeness. I have worked with eastern Europeans for over 20 years and to be perfectly frank their demeanor can be flat at times. But the family (owners) are wonderful. They are kind and generous, have issued refunds with a receipt and generally speaking are good people. If they do not have what I need they either offer to get it in or help me find it on Amazon. read more

The guy behind the counter saved me thousands on guiding me on how to use silicone for a plastic pipe I thought I had damaged. He answered all the questions I gave him and guided me on a machine to makes ice. Even offered an exchange and help on how to apply the item purchased. Thanks alot dude, I owe you a beer. read more

Terrible place. Would charge a fee to enter the store if they could. Have never encountered a hardware store with such a limited selection of products . Get a little exercise, walk to Bruno's on Court Street. read more

Went in to get some paint. Asked if they had quarts or gallons. He said both. I ask for a quart. I should've asked how much. I think he should have said that he charges $40 for a quart and $90 for a gallon and a gallon would be a better deal. Most hardware/paint store sales people do as much in my experience. He only mentioned price after the paint was mixed and then said it was too late to change. Shame on me. With that, I won't be back. read more

Medium sized hardware store with a straight forward purchasing process.

Just moved to dumbo and I was happy to fun this place is just a few minutes walk from my place. Went in to copy a few keys which they were able to finish super fast. They have a really good selection of paints. They also carry a wide range of general hardware store items and the prices are not that much more than you would find in Home Depot. Would have given them 4 stars but unfortunately the employees weren't exactly nice. Kind of just dead faced me with minimal interaction. Still a good spot. read more

Dumbo Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Basic hardware store that probably has what you came in here for. But why is everyone here so grumpy? Would it hurt ya to smile or say hi when people walk in or when people check out? It's the only option around the area and the selection is big, so I will probably be back next time I need some nails etc. read more

I dunno, I've been relatively recently in late 2017 and the sullenness is definitely still there. Plus, why does the counter-jockey treat every question with dismissive condescension? I asked if they do refills on CO2 canisters and the answer I got was a condescending laugh and "uhhh, no." Wow, I didn't realize I was such a dumbas*, thanks for letting me know. They close earlier and open later than the posted times, too. This place just kind of sucks. I'd go elsewhere with your money. read more

Don't buy paint here. Either the formula they have is too old or the mixer is broken - something is off that the colors aren't accurate. Super rude lady wearing a Benjamin Moore T shirt behind the counter claiming that they are not a Benjamin Moore store lol Also cash only in 2022. read more

We moved in to the neighborhood about 4 months ago, and I've found whoever working there to be friendly, helpful and knowledgeable whenever I've needed assistance with something. They have all the basic hardware supplies for NYC apartment living, and some gardening supplies too. read more

The way it should have gone if I was truly a man who felt completely comfortable in a hardware store when he walked in: Me: Sledgehammer? DH: In the back. Me: Humongous saw? DH: Same place. Me: Axe? DH: Yeah dude. Me: Put it on my tab. DH: Done What really happened: Me: I need these keys made. DH: (hands them to the other guy who starts making them right away) Me: Do you have a drain stopper for a tub? DH: We just ran out. Me: Other people need this type of thing? DH: Apparently. Me: How about a clear shower curtain liner? DH: (walks and gets it for me after telling his dog, Cujo, to stay behind the counter) What will probably happen next time: Me: Do you have one of those things that you like hit nails with? DH: A hammer? Me: Yeah, that. DH: Get out. For me, I want my local hardware store to know what they have at all times so when I ask, they know if they have it and where. These guys do that right away and are friendly about it. I'm not sure about their overall inventory of hardware, but until they fail me I will continue to go in and ask for what I need. read more

Having the apartment to myself for the entire month of April has put me into high-gear Martha Stewart mode. First, I rearranged the furniture. Then I bought new cutting boards. Finally, I've decided to take on the daunting task of painting my giant living room. Oh, poor me and my fancy apartment! It will just be so CHALLENGING to navigate the intricacies of my working wood-burning fireplace mantle, and to get tape around all the windows, so as not to ruin the original moldings. I'm sure you feel really bad for me. Anyway, I'm thinking green, so I head to the local hardware store to pick up some color cards and maybe a trial-size of paint. But DH is like, out of color cards for every color I want. They lend me their master set, but the light is so different in the store (fluorescent) from the natural light that floods my living room during the day, so I have to keep running outside with the cards to see what the color will really look like. Every time I go in and out I set off the "ding-dong, someone's coming in" bell, which starts to drive me (and I'm sure everyone else in the store) bonkers. But it's so hard to decide!! Do I want Spring Valley or Fernwood Green? Dill Pickle or Limesickle? Pale Sea Mist or Minced Onion? And how do I get the job of the person who comes up with these names? I finally decide on a lovely pale sage hue called Sweet Caroline, which means that Neil Diamond will be in my head until the end of eternity. Ah well, I guess it could be worse--the color could have been called "Barbie Girl". read more

This is a great neighborhood place. Really good selection for such a small store, but they close early. Prices are a bit high, but I guess that's what you pay for the convenience. They have magnets! Cool! read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Recently went into the store to have keys made for my apartment. I came back to the apartment and only 1 out of the 5 keys worked. I lost track of the receipt during the course of my move but figured that I could go back and get the keys fixed. Well, I WAS WRONG. I went into the store and showed them the keys and they insisted that I did not bring the keys there. I had a friend with me and even she was able to tell them that I most definitely brought the keys there. They asked me to show a receipt, which, I could not find and quite frankly, didn't think I would need to save for a $5.00 purchase. I walked out of the store with my bum keys in hand and a vow to myself never to go to DUMBO Hardware again. read more

THIS. PLACE. SUCKS. I went to my local neighborhood hardware store not only because of convenience, but to be a supporter of local businesses, however I should have known better from the overpriced 3 way dimmer that I should have not purchased it. But there I was, throwing caution to the wind (big mistake) and bought it. Maybe it was slight a case of buyer's remorse or maybe I just smartened up realizing that I didn't' need to unnecessarily spend a $20 premium. So I had my wife go to return the UNOPENED package that's was just purchased literally 17 hours earlier. Oh but low and behold they don't refund your purchase. They do offer you two choices though: 1. You can keep your purchase 2. Receive store credit. Are you kidding me?? Store credit for something that hadn't even been in my possession for a full day?!?! That is straight up unacceptable! What am I going to do with store credit?? Actually I do know what I can use it for...I'll use it to buy a slap upside the head...because that is what I deserve if I ever find myself in this awful business. Dumbo Hardware, if only you had teeth, then I could say BITE ME. read more

Worst. Hardware. Store. Ever. No inventory. Bad keys. Miserable return policy. No real knowledge of anything beyond lightbulbs. We need a real hardware store in DUMBO. Please. read more

I like this hardware store because of the location and the friendly staffs who work there. Every time when i visit I always get help from them. I also copied keys before and all of the three keys worked perfectly. The guy even told me to come back if the key is causing problems. read more

I am appalled at the rudeness of the store clerk and the unprofessional way they would treat a customer. I just moved across the street and needed a new lightbulb. I brought it in to see if they had it and was called "stupid" when I didn't know what the wattage was. The Manager needs to handle this store much better. I can't believe it's survived in a neighborhood whose shops are all so welcoming and customer forward. read more

They are ok for quick shopping, though don't have a huge selection. They also do not take returns, only store credit. read more

It's all about customer satisfaction at DUMBO Hardware. I've shopped here many times now and I'm relatively new to the neighborhood. Service has been great and if they didn't have exactly what I needed they helped me figure out the right way to get my job done. It's a small store which works for small/medium size project but if you're building a house you might do better at Home Depot. read more

Save your receipt, get their name and get everything in writing. Perhaps the cashiers have a "product return quota" they need to meet; but if you try to return anything here w/ a receipt; there's a good chance they will try to deny you that return. Save your receipt, get their name and get everything in writing. I purchased one of those "eco-saver" lightbulbs a few weeks ago. Before paying, I asked the guy if I could return it because I wasn't entirely sure I remembered the wattage I needed. The guy nodded, said "yes, with a receipt". Noted. I drop by two weeks later to return the lightbulb because of course I got the wattage wrong. The same guy as before was attending the counter; I ask to return the lightbulb, the guy looks at my receipt and tells me I can't return this as I had purchased this more than 6 weeks ago. I tell him firmly, no, it was two weeks ago. He glances at the receipt and asks ME, am I sure (without showing me the receipt mind you...) I snarkily suggest that he scan the bar code on the receipt in case the receipt's ink had rubbed the date off. He awkwardly declines my suggestion. He plays with the cashier computer for a few minutes then tells me that I can only receive store credit. I again firmly tell him that I explicitly asked HIM two weeks ago if I could return this with the receipt. He goes back to the cash register seemingly with his tail between his legs. As he is finally handing me back my money; he makes one last ditch attempt; "Do you need another light-bulb?" No, thank you, I'd prefer to go out of my way than give this business my money. Shop here only if you must, otherwise, just light a candle for the night, buy your lightbulbs (and everything else) somewhere else. read more

Aug '17 The good news is that you can ignore reviews about grumpiness prior to 2017 (e.g. Lu H.'s ... I've had experience of the previous staff and, if I hadn't returned in August, I would have had to agree.) Now the family that actually owns the store has taken over. Service is great, helpful, good for those small items you need when recabling or doing small-scale electrical work. read more

Not impressed. They have very limited stock and the salesmen have very limited knowledge of what they are selling. Luckily we never had to return anything as they did not have anything to purchase! I can't believe there is nothing better nearby. It's worth a trip south to go to Tony's Hardware in Cobble Hill. read more

They have almost everything you would need to make repairs or paint a wall in your home or office! They also cut keys! Staff is super nice and they have a large variety of products! They even sell cleaning products! I will say that the first time I got my keys cut here they did not fit when I got home but the staff happily made me a new one when I went back the next day! No hassle. read more

Worst hardware store! Horrible customer service, terrible hours, and a bad return policy. This place needs new management. One of many examples of horrible service: We had a coupon for a free sample of paint (after previously buying many gallons of other paint from them) only to find their mixer was broken, the person behind the counter said it was no problem and to come back in a few days. We came back three times, each time, the mixer was still broken, about a week later when the mixer was finally fixed, they told us our coupon was no longer valid. read more

This store is so pitiful it is almost comical. The shelves are empty, the staff is lazy and when I went in need of 8 standard sized screws, they only had 3 (and it was like pulling teeth just getting the sales associate to help me find what I was looking for). Every time I go in no one asks if I need help, when I finally ask for assistance they roll their eyes like I just asked them do me a favor. I would urge you not to shop here but I'm pretty confident you wouldn't be able to find what you're looking for anyway... read more

Small but they always have what I need and they are friendly. The guy who works here knows where everything is, so I can be in and out in a minute. I've bought tools and hardware here and while they don't have the selection of Home Despot, they have enough for me to complete my weekend tasks. Thankful it's here in the neighborhood! read more

I will never return. Our company has had multiple mishaps with keys here. I badly needed keys for my house guests and had to return twice to get the same keys "re-cut", since each time they did not work. This all took place over a few weeks of back-and-forth. I just went back a third time with the $9 reciept and the two keys. They would not refund my money. I have two beautiful faulty keys as a result and a lot of time wasted. I ended up going to Home Depot which is a distance for me to get to walking. Furthermore, the men were so rude to me and said it didn't matter that the keys do not work, I paid for them and they will not refund my money. read more

Great staff! I walked in there confused on what I really needed, spoke with a guy who's name began with a N. He helped me pick out what I needed and explained to me how it works! I was greeted with a smile and finished with a smile. I'll be coming back again! read more

I came to this hardware store at 9:30 on a Saturday which according to google and the hours posted on the store front, the store opens at 9am. However, there were many of us waiting outside and the inside was dark with no employees to be found! How unprofessional! read more

Easy to summarize: rude, unhelpful, and bad customer service. We've been to Dumbo Hardware store a couple of times and each time it's a hassle. My boyfriend bought some supplies for his office a while back and when some of the items were defective and he tried to return them, they only gave him store credit. The scribbled the credit on the receipt and then when he tried to go back in to use the credit, they couldn't read their own handwriting and tried not to honor the credit. We've also had keys cut here that don't work. To top it all off, I tried to buy some drain remover there and was told I couldn't use my credit card unless I bought something else to put me over their minimum charge. These guys are not worth the hassle. read more

For the past 2 days i visited your store on front st. Both times i had to wait until 9:30am for the guy to open. Both times there were people waiting and he cared none about this. Today when i confronted him about opening on time his response was "i was drinking next door", followed by "i can open when ever i want". I purchased nothing and walked out to Century paint hardware a few blocks over. read more

Very helpful and knowledgeable people. I walked in and was almost immediately being asked if I needed help. Really disappointed that I bought a can of primer that I did not end up using and was unable to return it. The store said they will not take back any paints or varnishes. I get there at 9:15, to a guy walking out & locking the door...I say "did you just close up"...he says "yeah"...you can come back in 30min, when I'm done eating breakfast.... Then why not say we open when we feel like & you can shop here never... I would give zero stars if that was an option! read more
