I have had to use Dumbo Hardware on rare occasions because I shop anywhere else to avoid this store. Today I unfortunately had to go in there and was treated with arrogance (as usual). I bought a $12 bulb from them last week and it blew out in one week. I asked for them to replace it, so they took a new one off the shelf and proceeded to ring it up. I thought he was kidding about charging me for a new bulb. I asked him to get some help from GE (the manufacturer of the bulb) and he told me I could do that, but he wasn't going to do that. He wanted me to pay for another bulb!! Needless to say, I stormed out of that store infuriated. The experience just reinforces my opinion of them since they opened up a few years back. I have to be desperate to go in there & buy anything from them!! They are the worst examples of customer service and small shop owner. read more

I had a couple of paint samples mixed here: a deep gray and a deep brown. I got home, opened them up, and they were stark white. I don't think they actually mixed them. read more

The staff is very friendly and courteous, not to mention great looking ;).The store carries a wide selection of premium paint along with many hardware needs. The staff will help you pick the best products if you are unsure. read more

Poor service. We have had to use this store 3-4 for work because it's the only hardware in dumbo. 3 times we've bought paint and had to return it because each time they mix the wrong colors. They use the worst quality products and are not very helpful. read more

was concerned over the store credit policy due to the negative reviews here, so I did everyone a favor and cleared it up w/ their management: no more store credit refunds & exchanges only on the other hand folks, you can't return paint. so be committed to your colors - don't burden the business with your mistakes! make sure you bring in the original key if you're making a copy or else you might experience troubles using an already copied key. this is a very helpful family/community oriented business that truly cares about giving back and providing necessary supplies. also they are open on sundays now and that's the best thing to ever happen in this neighborhood. read more

This store is awesome! I've been coming here for many years and they always have what I want at great prices. The staff are friendly and happy to help me with whatever home projects I have in mind. They have Benjamin Moore paint, which is so much better than the cheap paint they sell at other major retailers. Keep doing what you're doing! They even do special orders! read more

I think the guys who work there are awesome. They saved my ass a few times dealing with some unexpected home improvement projects. Gave me a great price on paint and even special ordered me stuff they don't usually carry (camping equipment for my trip). Sweet. read more

Very nice family business. Incredibly helpful staff, their new worker Tommy was very pleasant. They will work with you until you have what you perfectly need, and are very caring about their customers. People complain about the wait, but the reason that there is a wait is because they take their time to make sure that every client has exactly what they need. Support local business! read more

Have been going here for 9 years and seen series of owners. They consistently have the basics and are also consistently rude and unhelpful.

Great store (it hasn't always been the case) and great service. Shelves are stocked to the brim and the staff are always there to help.

Shout out to Alex... Staff was extraordinarily helpful and very personable, even obliged a friendly chat. Highly recommended!

Great products, great prices, friendly neighborhood hardware store in the heart of dumbo. Expert advice on anything from flashlights to paint. read more

It's a shame that we don't have a negative star rating. This store should GO OUT OF BUSINESS. Horrible customer service, horrible store policy when it comes to return/refund. They never agree to give your money back or exchange even when they make a mistake giving you a wrong color of paint. Do not shop there. The worst store in DUMBO. read more

I'm used to weird treatment in hardware stores because I'm a 20-something woman. But this one has a truly impressive history of my favorite thing: sullen incompetence. Keep it up! read more

I have lived in Dumbo for two years and have visited Dumbo Hardware often! The guys that work there have helped me so much with my closures for handbags that I have been designing at Parsons. I am a Fashion Design student and am always exploring new ways to construct my designs. The guys at Dumbo Hardware are the first people I turn to when I am stuck with a design. Twice the guys have helped me remove unwanted metal from my closures with power tools that I would never be able to buy. This is something I could never do on my own and they are more then willing to help. I would recommend this hardware store to anyone! read more

I think this is a family-run store, which I like. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, their paint machine was inaccurate so it mixed the wrong color for me. While this seems like a disaster, fortunately we quite liked the wrongly-mixed color. Also, they kindly gave us 2 replacement gallons of the color with their sincere apologies. I believe the machine is fixed now and I wouldn't hesitate to go back, they are really nice people which is most important. read more

store is amazing despite what any other person says. i went inside and got helped right away. we even joked around and had some laughs. great store. ppl dont usually write good reviews only bad ones but just go inside and see for yourself. it does not feel like a regular hardware store. read more

Please..Please..Please...PLEASE never go here. These people are horrible and I would bet that every positive review here was written by one of them. I purchased a 50 dollar product here which is a lot of money for me. I never took the item out of its package and I kept the receipt. After realizing that I already owned what I was purchasing I tried to return it 2 days later. They would not give me my money back and would only give me in store credit in the form of a faded receipt. They were unbelievably rude to me during the entire conversation. Then they told me that my in store credit could expire spontaneously but that I had "a little bit of time" to use it. Now im out the money, they have there product and im forced to continue shopping at this overpriced understocked store in a hurry before credit expires. How are these people still open? Why are they alienating their customers? Do everyone a favor and no longer give these wise guys any more money! read more

the guy working at this store has been helping me for years. there used to be horrible people working there. he helps me everytime but he also has great conversation all the time. i dont just go there for items i go there to have a "good time" for the minutes im there. he asked me to write him a good review for the store which he never did but i was surprised the rating was bad. trust me the rating doesnt match the actuality. i was more than glad to do this for him read more
