Met a friend here for lunch, I was set to order breakfast (my favorite any time of day), but friend asked the server what was good. She stated the hot roast beef is really good, so I changed my mind. It did not disappoint! I ordered the 1/2 serving. My friend ordered the hot turkey, which she said was fine. Decided to go back on the weekend with my husband for breakfast. We both really enjoyed what we ordered. Husband commented that it was truly like old school diners, his toast was "fully" buttered, not just a little bit in the middle and his over easy eggs were perfectly cooked. We loved the small town diner feel from the decor, the food, and the people. For breakfast it did take them a while to get to us and take our order but once ordered, food came out quickly. Came in for breakfast on a Friday morning. We got a booth right away but it was very busy. I got the sausage croissant sandwich with hash browns. The croissant was a solid square "bun", which visually threw me off but was SO GOOD. The sausage patty was HUGE. The hash browns were yummy, but $4.25 for a little side of them is a little steep. Hubby got the two polish sausage breakfast. He said it was outstanding. Not sure what coffee they use there but it was probably the smoothest black coffee I've ever had. Initially, I was a little surprised by how compact it was. But it seemed cozy, and very small-town American. As much as that can be charming, it failed to justify much of the rest of my experience. I was instructed to sit at one of the dirty tables, and it did take them several minutes to wipe it down. The silverware my waitress individually and frantically set down on a napkin for me was dirty. There was strange, wet specks on my spoon and some sort of crusted food on the back of it. The knife had something faint and brown-ish on it. This happens, I cleaned the spoon with a napkin dipped in my iced water. Another customer watched me do this, and seemed not very happy with me. It was a spoon I thought I'd be using for their soup of the day. As I'd just seen the waitress provide a small serving for another customer to taste and she loved it. When she finally is ready to take my order, she sits down across from me, and she apologizes that the soup is out now and that she'll give me a minute. I'm not ready the next time she comes to take my order, and she said she has plenty to do and she'll give me another minute. She'd also made a comment that she must've ruined my day with being out of soup. At this point, I'm just not sure this is the experience I want to spend money on, let alone be expected to tip for. I guess I can understand the charm of small, humble, family-owned restaurants. But I did not find that the charm made up for these small, sort of lame short comings with service and cleanliness. Some seem to have enjoyed the experience. I believe it would still be worth trying but if any of these rub you weird, I'd suggest finding some other place to try. The prices did not seem appropriate here either, imo. read more

Stopped in for breakfast after coming here all the time as a kid. Almost nothing on the inside has changed in 2 decades (not that it's a bad thing). Old school type diner with a counter a vinyl seats. Can feel a little out of place if you're not a "regular". Menu is what you would likely expect from a diner that serves only breakfast and lunch, with a couple surprises. I found one such surprise on my most recent visit in a taco omelet. Sounds odd, was terrific. Taco meat, peppers, onions, cheese, sour cream and salsa. And even had cinnamon raisin bread! Just loved it. If you can get past feeling a little out of place if you're not in all the time, go and have some good ol' comfort food. read more

An adorable small town cafe with great locals and awesome energy. The food list is huge with a-la carte options available for anyone wanting to build their own breakfast as well. The cinnamon and caramel rolls are huge and to die for. The pancakes are dinner plate sized and fluffier than you'd expect. You never have to wait long for your food and the price is worth the often short wait to be seated. I used to come here all the time in the early 2000's when our construction crew would eat here a couple times per week for breakfast. It was always amazing and the servers were great and always gave us a little bit of crap, but in a fun way. I went back recently and had a great bacon, egg and hash brown meal with toast. So glad Park Cafe stayed open. We were looking for a local place to get Friday fish fry to go. Park definitely fit the bill! The process of ordering was so smooth and they were very accommodating. They offer curbside pickup if you pay over the phone which made the pickup process safe and efficient. For a little less than $25 including tax and tip we got two servings of a full scale Friday fish fry meal in leading lots of beer battered cod, tartar sauce, biscuit, potato of choice, and coleslaw. This is the best fish fry I've had! And it traveled well- the fries and fish were still crispy and fresh after the drive home. Easily one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in my lifetime! Found this place as out of towners looking for a good breakfast spot. Great atmosphere of a hometown diner. The server knew everyone by name, knew their orders by heart, was personal, attentive, friendly and funny. The food was incredible! They didn't skimp on the hollandaise sauce, chopped up the ham and even made sure my eggs were cooked perfectly. The Kirby is like something I would typically have to special order from every other place I've ever gone, but they had it here ready to go on the menu as a specialty of theirs. This week Lil Yang and I decided to give "Comfort Food" a try. Looking though yelp, I settled on Park Café. It was roughly a 15-20 minute drive for each of us. We live in different places, and I try to make it fair when we go places. Anyway, when we got into the café, it was packed, mostly because it is small, and only a few places to sit in general. But we made it work, and sat at the small horseshoe bar stool location. (After our visit my butt was numb because the stools had no cushion and were a bit small.) After looking over the menu, we decided to go with the Hot Beef Sandwich, and Hot Meatloaf Sandwich. Each came with homemade mashed potatoes and graving based on the sandwich choice. There was a Turkey option as well. We each got the full option. The prices were great, but that is what you get from a hometown café. They also served breakfast all day, and the portion sizes were pretty big. I had the beef. It was so good. definitely a delicious dish and probably the reason I go back, if I go back. So the sandwich was cut in half, and there was a decent portion of gravy to go with your potatoes and sandwich, so it wasn't dry, which was nice. The sad thing was both weren't hot at all. More like Luke-warm sandwiches. I am also a salt person, so it could of had a bit more salt to it. Or even a salt shaker close to us. there wasn't one in arms reach or even next to the other people sitting at the horseshoe. The wait staff wasn't too attentive, we did find ourselves waiting to order, waiting for our food, waiting to see if we would be able to get water refills, and waiting to get our check. It is a small town, local place, so that is why I feel like some of this happened. My hope is next time, maybe they will see outsiders, and welcome them and be a little more attentive. Also because it was quite small, we couldn't really have any conversation we wanted. This place no mater what we talked about, someone was eavesdropping, and there was a gentleman (very pleasant and kind to talk too, not a local) who definitely chimed into our conversations every chance he got. At one point he even tried reading the newspaper to not listen to us, but he still listened and gave his 2cents. So overall, not a bad place, if you want comfort food, but not really a comfortable place. read more

Be prepared to be welcomed as if you are a local and be prepared for some sass from the excellent servers. Better yet, sass back with the wait staff in a friendly way and you will receive more attention. Order the Polish breakfast. One link ought to do. Please note I rate the place 4 star in the classification of a diner and one in the $ category. Four stars doesn't mean one star away from a 5 star restaurant with $$$$ prices. Park offers tasty and well prepared diner food, some of which you will find with the same label/name (e.g. meatloaf) as food found in a foodies comfort food restaurant. The menu, people and food was sad. Maybe it's the depressed nature of the area or the worn down looks on peoples faces, but the overall mood is not upbeat nor is there a positive vibe. French toast was disappointing and eggs Benedict didn't look appetizing. Possibly being from the metro area in Oregon sets my standards high but presentation, quality and offerings are plentiful and yummy in Oregon. read more

So much food at this place, I can hardly stand it! I've lived less than 5 miles from this restaurant for almost 10 years. Sadly, I just finally visited. I was under the impression that they only served breakfast (I'm not sure why- but we all know what happens when you ASSume!) Anyhow, their menu is HUGE. And much more fresh and complex than I though it would be. We went for breakfast, and it was delicious. Because I'm not at all a morning person, I can't remember exactly what I ate, but I'm reasonably confident it was eggs Benedict with hash browns for me, and French Toast for The Man. It was delicious, but what I remember the most from that visit is being extremely angry that it was breakfast time, because the dinner menu looked amazing... Me- screw it. I want a sloppy joe. Ooo! Or maybe the poached pear salad! Ooo! Ooo! POT ROAST! Doesn't that sound amazing? The Man- it's 7:30 AM. Just order your eggs Benedict like you always do. Me- but, mashed potatoes! After reading the glowing reviews on Yelp I was very disappointed with my experience here. I stopped in for lunch on my way to Afton. I'm a big fan of greasy spoon breakfast foods (who isn't?) and decided to give Park Cafe a try. The place was pretty busy at 11:45 as it was nearing the peak hours for greasy brunch. I jumped into one of the only open stools at the counter and grabbed a menu. I placed my order with one of the serves and pulled out my phone to check in on my Yelp app and read the news. Time began to feel long. I casually glanced around the room and noticed--to my horror--no one had food at their tables. The kitchen sounded busy. But the plates that came out were few and far between. A couple tables complained to the cashier behind me that they had been waiting very long for their food. I realized this was going to be an exercise in patients. It took a full 45 minutes for my omelette and hash-browns to come through the swinging kitchen doors. By that time I was ravenous. I plowed through my food with reckless abandon. Probably better than the alternative. My plate was soaked in grease. Hash-browns were dripping in oil. Not awesome and not worth the wait. This little gem in St Paul Park is not to be missed! They serve great diner style food at very reasonable prices. Breakfast is served all day. Don't pass up the hashbrowns or American fries with onions. They are both among the best I've enjoyed. The hot beef and hot turkey are huge and come with wonderful homemade gravy. Boyfriend and I stopped here on our way home from Afton Apple Orchard this past fall. We wanted a hole-in-the-wall experience; this place did not disappoint. It definitely has a small-town feel. During the dinner hour it was packed full of folks who must have been locals because they all seemed to know each other. The atmosphere was cute and old-school, almost like something out of an old movie - charming for us Minneapolis-dwellers. The food was of course nothing fancy, just honest-to-goodness diner food at more than reasonable prices. I had a fried chicken dinner (I was going for a small-town theme) which was surprisingly good, and my boyfriend had a veggie omelet. He wasn't incredibly impressed (he said he could have made the same thing at home, but then, that's kind of the case with most diner breakfasts), but he still thought it was okay. If I lived in St Paul Park, I'd probably visit this place regularly. 3.5 stars. read more

Rockin Reba! My dining companion and I stumbled upon the Park Cafe one night while at a local establishment. We said, 'that looks like a neat little locally owned place, let's go there tomorrow AM.' Well, lo and behold this place is good! My favorite breakfast item is always an egg sandwich. I love to try them at different places - Coffee Cup, Keys, Cecil's. Well, my search has ended. This place has the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had!! If I go there and don't get it, I'm disappointed. Now, it's not that I don't like other things there, it's just this sandwich is so good I can't not get it. I like hash browns but they have to be crispy, so normally I would try the hash browns, but since I saw someone eating CRINKLE CUT FRIES, I ordered those. I know not everyone has a french fry preference, but crinkle cuts are my favorite, so I always get those. My dining companion loves the Mountain Man Kirby, I think it's a pile of meat on top of hash browns, onions, peppers, with eggs. The place is small, the servers friendly, but the food is a little slow because I think they really just have 2 people cooking in the kitchen. What I also enjoy is the fact they have Diet Mountain Dew. A perfect breakfast = The Reba, Fries, and DMD. It's a little off the beaten path, but hey, if you have to take a taxi home from the Legion across the street, you can eat there, then pick up your car the next day. read more

The Park Cafe is the closest to a home cooked meal as you can get. I used to take my grandfather here twice a week for lunch. They have a variety of entrees serving breakfast, lunch, & dinner. With daily specials priced around $5, you can't beat it. The cafe is small with an old-time diner feel. The staff is always friendly & would chat it up with my grandpa for the entire duration of our meal. My grandfather loved the ribs & sauerkraut on Tuesdays, while their house salad with french & ranch dressing is my absolute favorite for no other reason than the croutons are crunchy & the lettuce to veggie ratio is perfection. After my horrific experience at the other cafe in Newport/SPP (the one that rhymes with "Morth Hole"), I was a little leery of trying out another old school diner. Thankfully the Park Cafe was exactly what i was hoping it would be - small hole in the wall with a sweet older waitress. I got standard breakfast fare - eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. The bacon was overcooked, but the rest of it was exactly what one would expect - solid. The BF got the all you can eat chicken, and said it was the best chicken he ever had. The highlight of the meal was the waitress walking back into the kitchen and yelling out - "We need another piece of chicken for the all you can eat guy -- make it a BIG one!" She also stated that we should keep getting chicken and take it home with us - not typically for an AYCE special in the least, but very sweet. read more
