To say I liked The High Hat is a bit of an understatement. Honestly just thinking about it now I'm…read moresad I don't live in MN and can't go back soon, it's really just that good. First of all we found this place on Yelp and landed on it because of the high reviews and how close it was to our airbnb. I was a bit worried about a wait as it looked popular but with two people we were able to get in pretty quick (less than 5 min wait) on a Sunday morning. It was packed though, so there might be a wait. Space is at a premium in this building and despite being a bit crammed in it was still a great experience overall. Honestly everything was wonderful. The server: A+, ambiance: great, food: holy hell it was delicious. I had some sort of benedict that came on cornbread and was paired with some incredible hashbrowns. Chef's kiss. I also ordered a specialty mocha for fun and it also did not disappoint. This place is a slam dunk for breakfast. If you live in the twin cities and you haven't eaten here yet what are you doing!?

This place is an absolute GEM in the breakfast world. It is the ONLY place in the twin cities, that…read moreI have found, where I can get a great coffee as well as a great breakfast. Every. Single. Time. That doesn't even cover how wonderful the staff there is! Just really great people who are keeping it real. No parties larger than 6, this is a hard rule and needs to be respected. I have seen people argue with the owner. It's a small place and he values his staff so much that he will not opt for income over his staff's mental health or stress level. I admire that so much. All the more reason to take your close friend and enjoy a real down to earth local business!!!

We decided to finally try Southern Social after passing by a few times. So glad we did. The menu is…read morefull of southern delights with a few local favorites added in. The appetizers are plenty and all of them sound delicious. We started with the buttermilk biscuits with the bourbon honey butter and blackberry preserves. It comes as six biscuits with a generous helping of butter and preserves and drizzled with honey. Nice crisp outside with a soft center. For dinner I got the catfish and chips, because what is more southern than fried catfish. My Mamaw would have been proud. Three strips of catfish over a bed of fries and side of hush puppies. The catfish was delicious! I wasn't a fan of the hush puppies. There was a drizzle on them that was super spicy to me so I didn't eat more than a half of one. My husband got the Mississippi Dip. It was also delicious and a generous portion. He was a particularly fan of the dip. The coleslaw was good and had an added spice we were not able to place but it had a very good flavor profile. Of course we got dessert. If was hard to decide between the Peach Bread pudding and the Beignets. The Bread pudding won out. A large slice with a big dollop of vanilla ice cream and a caramel sauce. My only "complaint" is that there was not enough sauce/caramel. I would have loved to have more of that to cover the slice but that being said it was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone. Service was quick even though they had a few large parties because of homecoming. I am looking forward to coming back and trying a few more things on the menu.

Here we thought it would be an easy Anniversary dinner on a Tuesday, but it was subpar from the…read morebeginning. We waited at the front with no one greeting us for over 5m before I asked the bartender if it was seat yourself (no, you cannot). Then, our food took over an hour and was served half-cold, half-warmed too much by a heat lamp. You could tell the food sat and continued to cook while cooling off. It was gross. In addition, the indoors smelled like cigar smoke because THEY WERE HOLDING A CIGAR EVENT ON THEIR PATIO! Ummm... isn't there a law about not smoking so close to diners and doors to the restaurant (yes, there is)?! It was a horrible experience from start to finish. Will never choose it again for anything important. Slow Service. Bad food that took too long. Bad ambiance of cigar smoke (my wife is immunocompromised with a lung issue). I spent 20+ years managing restaurants. This was epically horrible.
