I would have to agree with others, that the service was quite slow here. We were seated immediately but it did take about 15 mins for someone to finally come over. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be, and the restaurant was quite spacious with plenty of seating but everyone was lumped right next to each other--hated that. The food was nice and hot when it came out. My hash browns were a bit bitter as they were a smidgen burnt. But no other issues with anyone else's food. Still a valiant effort for Denny's. Was seated right away but wait staff didn't take our orders until 15 mins later, when I finally got up to say something (and the restaurant only had 3 other tables at the time). Wait staff and host looked surprised at each other, obviously have forgotten about us. Server was young, had a "I hate this job" attitude. No hellos, no thanks, no you're welcomes, no smile, nothing. Forgot the fries, forgot the pancakes. Took an extra 15 minutes until we received the fries and by then the sandwiches were eaten. Waitress didn't bother to give us any syrup for the pancakes. Beverages wasn't refilled. Never gave us our check. And worse, she charged us extra for the fries we were supposed to get as "a side" with the sandwiches. Yeah yeah. "You get what you pay for". We originally decided to come here to support older, smaller businesses that are slowly be wiped out by newer restaurants. But when you get services like this, you quickly realize why it's being wiped out and why there's no one else eating in the restaurant. The food isn't spectacular. I ordered a stuffed French toast and a crepe when we received and took a bite of it it tasted like poisonous gasoline or something just horrible and smelt like it too. I've had stuffed French toast else where many times and it has never tasted or smelled like this and we went same day and returned it to the store weekend manager. We insisted that he smell the food himself and he still tried Insisting that the smell was supposed to smell like that. We disagreed but the manager agreed to a full refund back to the original card it was purchased and I agreed and I have yet to receive my refund. I really don't know why this is rated so poorly. My experience was good (and what I was expecting from a Denny's). We were seated by the kitchen, so I it was loud, but so was the rest of the restaurant. We had no complaints about our food and our service was great! My salad was actually fresh. I had the craving for breakfast. My boyfriend did not. So we settled on going to Denny's so that we could both get what we wanted. Our server was Crystal she was so bubbly and friendly. Found ourselves not able to be home for thanksgiving so we went to this dennys for dinner 1/3 of the tables being used food was good service was not the good time old default "under staffed". Absolutely horrible experience. We went last night as a family, and I wish we didn't. We arrive and are seated just fine, but then we're left alone for about 10 minutes (there was maybe two other tables at this point and 2 more get seated while we're waiting). Then the server, Caesar, comes up to us and just says "you ready?" He takes our orders and when my mom ordered her eggs basted he just looked at her and said "you mean over easy?" And she said "no, basted" and he rolled his eyes. He puts our order in and about 5 minutes later we get our drinks - nothing complicated, 2 sodas and a coffee. Then our food comes out. My eggs, which I had ordered over medium, came drenched in some sort of oil/liquid, and were really undercooked. As was my French toast - it was doughy to the point of being inedible. The sausage links were burnt on the outside but somehow still cold on the inside. My mothers eggs were missing chunks and looked somewhere between over easy and poached. My husband ordered a burger with no tomato and fries. It came with tomato (not a huge deal we just took it off) and the fries came out black. We stopped the server and just asked if the fries could please be remade since they were burnt (we didn't ask for anything else to be remade because we were hungry). Our server rolled his eyes again and took the plate back from us. When he came back the fries were slightly less burnt. By this time we were just done with the experience. Our server was rude and said literally 6 words to us the entire time. The person sitting next to us had to ask 3 times for a glass of water and by the time we left (my husband had to find his own box) the table 2 down from us, which arrived around 5 minutes after us, still had not received their drinks. As we were leaving one of the guests who was there before us had to stand up and get the waiter to ask for silverware. It was a waste of $50 especially since all three of us spent the night sick with food poisoning. The only reason we paid was because we didn't want to get the police involved. The WORST Denny's I've ever been to. I order a burger and fries and potato soup. The burger & fries came out first (why?) and the burger was soooo greasy the the bottom bun was already mushy. When I finally got the soup, it was luke warm. It took forever to get someone to come over so I could ask for a different bun/hot soup. Got seated fairly quickly, and the food came pretty fast. Food was Great - same as most Denny's. Service and wait staff were excellent, the decor is a typical Denny's with the exception of a really nice breakfast bar. Came here for lunch with a co-worker on a dreary Friday. She had the Moons over my Hammy and it looked so good, I wish I ordered that! I had their Club sandwich, it was good too but nothing great. I wish their fries were a bigger portion, when compared to similar restaurants like Perkins and Baker's Square. We both got sides of brown gravy for our fries. I will make mention of how great the coffee is here! Super fresh and hot. I was a fan. Overall, I would probably return for lunch or breakfast if I was in the area. Overall, this was a very good experience. Service was attentive, with our waitress constantly checking in with us to see if we needed anything. Coffee was good and the skillet scramble and omelet we ordered both were excellent. Would have given 5 stars but waitress forgot that I asked that cheese be omitted from my skillet scramble. I also appreciated that the menu was clearly marked with gluten free seDespite other low reviews I recommend giving them a chance. ***This is an update based on a second visit. Service was again very attentive and timely. My breakfast was also very good. I would rate 4 stars again rather than 5 because my English Muffin came to me neither toasted or buttered. Talk about horrible customer service. This place is brand new and it really needs to shape up. We walked into a lobby full of people not being seated. I asked what was going on to the woman behind the desk and she said she had no clue. Then as all of these people were standing in the lobby not getting seated a server comes up and stared to seat people and stopped doing that to talk to a guy and get his number. I was shocked. This West St Paul Denny's has to be the worst Denny's in the country and have dinned at many Denny's all over the country.Ordered the lumberjack slam asked for real butter for the pancakes waitress brought out some butter in a bowl, it tasted like it had been sitting in the open air in a fridge for way to many days so i told them to keep the pancakes and give me extra hash browns, They were so greasy you could float a boat in them, eggs were cooked ok but came out cold, sausage links were precooked and had been sitting out and were also cold and dried out. Toast was like it had been toasted long before we got there and left out. Waitress tried to make it right and manager gave a discount of maybe 10% ! out of the whole meal i was able to eat 2 eggs 1 poor strip of bacon and 1/2 of the grease/browns, there was only one other table with diners in the whole place at 6:30 PM. The food wasn't horrible. But the service was. We did have a group of 14 people, but took 30 minutes just to get our food ordered. Then we waited another 45 minutes to even get our food. Then it took another 15 minutes to get our bills. Then we had to stand and wait for someone to come and check us out. There were plenty of servers slowly walking around. There was minimal people inside the restaurant. We had 5 kids with us that were hungry and to have to wait that long was absurd. The manager on duty never came to check on us in our very long wait. DONT COME HERE!! This is by far the worst denny's I have been too and I have been to a lot. waited almost a hour to get my food that looked like it was made by my 3 year old cousin. The food was greasy and it tasted like a can of dog food and my coffee was cold. TERRIBLE SERVICE at the Denny's on Robert Street in West St. Paul. I ordered food on line for pickup. Was told it was ready for pickup. I was waiting for somebody to hand me my food but was completely ignored while other customers were serviced. When I brought it up to the female Hispanic employee she told me she would be with me shortly. And then she chose to continue to service other people, intentionally ignoring me a white person. Finally a white female employee came to the front and after servicing a few people I spoke up again. She immediately got my food for me and was apologetic. I feel that I was discriminated against by the Hispanic female. I have filed a formal complaint. This is not the 1st time that I have had problems at this restaurant. Not worth your time. We waited 45 minutes for water W-A-T-E-R like ??? The place had around 5 other tables total at the time and it took 45 minutes for the server to bring us water. We waited an 1 hour and 30 minutes for our food to come out and not everyone's food came out together either. They came out in bursts, two dishes here, wait 10 minutes, then 3 more dishes, wait another 8 minutes and then finally the last 2 dishes. And to top it all off, a friend of mine found a long piece of hair in her food. She complained about it and the staff did nothing but offer her a 20% discount for the food she couldn't even eat. I was in there with my great grandchildren. She ordered salad and spaghetti and meatballs. She was served a very small portion of spaghetti, no meatballs. We asked for meatballs and they sent out 2 huge hot spice meatballs she couldn't even eat. My great grandson ordered boneless chicken wings and hash browns. They brought chicken tenderloins, as we said we asked for the wings. They then brought out six balls of meat which they said were the chicken wings. It looked nothing like was on the menu, and they were fried so hard he couldn't even bite into them. He never did get his hash browns They charged us $8.49 for one item that was uneatable. The service was lousy. My daughter and I got our breakfast food we ordred, and were done with before the kids had gotten anything, and their night out was ruined, to say nothing about the expense of a lousy meal they didn't even serve all of it.
