This is a great place to come if you like being ignored: the place was quiet, so I sat at the bar and the bartender spent the first 10 minutes chatting with what appeared to be some "regulars" at the end of the bar. Other staff members walked by, oblivious to my presence. After a good long wait, the bartender finally came by and and I ordered a beer and asked for a menu; after bringing them, he went back to chatting and serving the regulars. Other members of the staff walked by, who maintained their obliviousness to my presence. I finally got the message that I was not welcome here, so I took a sip of my beer, and walkedeeer over to Lorenzo's, where I was promptly served by people who clearly understand that if you want "regulars," you have to serve all customers. read more

This place is a hot mess. Other than the one bartender the staff is simply untrained. Our waitress tried but she just didn't know any of the wines, or a wine brand from a grape. We were going to eat dinner here but ended up just having an appetizer and walking next-door to the pizza place. We had the calamari which in my opinion was not Calamari, the consistency and perfect rings was just not right. Steer clear of this establishment. The food was inedible. It's pretty hard to mess up spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna. The meat in meatballs and lasagna was hard, crusty and black in color. We paid our bill and had dinner next door at Lorenzo's. We were excited to visit from out of town and I am flabbergasted that anyone can eat here. Chicken, eggplant, haddock, sausage & meatball parm selections. 12.95 you get a house salad with delicious homemadeItalian dressing, a basket of their homemade garlic bread, voice of Parm and side of pasta. A great deal ! This place has been here for years and sad to say business is slow because it's in an out of the way spot. A great place to go for Authentic Italian food. Parillo's doesn't look like much from the outside as you make your way across the street from the private parking lot for customers, but it's got a quaint, friendly vibe on the inside that makes you feel like you're visiting family. Once you're past the bar and booth seating up front, the actual dining room feels more like your grandmother's house than a restaurant, with a random piano here and an old couch there. It's clean, inviting, and cozy, and the wait staff certainly helps make you feel at home too. While we didn't see a wine list, we were able to order a few glasses of chardonnay and pinot grigio, which were decent (and affordable at $4 a glass). Dinner portions came with a soup that was quite tasty, salad with a house Italian dressing, and bread with garlic butter. By the time our meals came out, it was tough to eat much more. My veal prosciutto was very tasty, though a little soggy due to juices being left on the plate, and came with a side of roasted potatoes which were excellent. Two steaks came out looking quite good, though one was a little too red for a medium rare. The sides of pasta were also quite good. Overall, the 4 of us ate very well for $100 (which included 6 glasses of wine). There aren't many restaurants in the Amsterdam area, so I was glad to find Parillo's to be a good selection among the few. read more

This place was awful, waited 1 h for 2 burgers and 2 sandwiches, and a kids meal...server was nice but I'm sorry it's Sunday night the place was not busy at all. 1 sandwich came without side...never came ever--kids meal was "still coming" after everyone else was done with their meals. Burgers had NO TOPPINGS (12 dollar burger --no bacon or cheese as listed) and both were way past well done--ordered rare and med-rare.... But done worry they didn't charge us for the 1 meal that never got the side. Seriously we would have been way better ANYWHERE ELSE. I write good reviews all the time but don't waste your time here or $12 on a bun and small piece of over cooked meat. read more

Have to say service is terrible we've been waiting an hour just to get a couple of chicken wings! Not to mention we ordered a Reuben sandwich and it took them 40 minutes to tell us that they don't have corned beef to make the Ruben sandwich. And then we slipped a bunch of money into the Jukebox only to have them turn it down so low that we can't even hear the music. So I say stay the hell away! read more

We stopped here for Sunday lunch while visiting one of our kids in Amsterdam. We were pleasantly surprised by the service and food. It is hard to try a new place without knowing what to expect. I'd definitely recommend eating here if you're looking for a delicious Italian lunch or dinner. We sat outside at one of their small tables. The flowers and decor were a nice touch, so was the Italian music playlist. My husband ordered the antipasto, the small was large enough to share but he chose it for his meal. I had the homemade cavatelli & meatballs. The pasta was delicious and the meatballs were moist and cooked well. One of our kids had the personal pizza and had no complaints. The other had the crispy chicken sandwich which came with crispy fries as a side. Everyone ate everything on their plates! They had good beers on tap and decent wine and the homemade garlic bread and Italian dressing were delicious too. I would recommend checking the place out! read more

I cannot wait to get me some Parillo's over the holidays! This joint serves the best rigatoni with vodka sauce on the Eastern Seaboard. Ask them to toss in some broccoli and they will serve it up. Parillo's allows you to craft your own pasta dish with their traditional Italian flavors. As a strict vegetarian, the menu had a wide variety. The Tiffany lamp collection boosts the ambiance and makes for great conversation. The service is top-notch and the owners who actually work there, come out and socialize with the crowd. While they are great at working people in, give them a call beforehand. This place tends to be packed. read more

I lived in Amsterdam several years ago and recently returned for a meal with a group of friends at Parillo's. I was pleased! The decor has changed quite a bit since I was there over twenty years ago, and the food was a pleasant surprise. I had a shrimp scampi and angelhair dish, cooked just right, and garlicky in the way I expect from an Italian restaurant. My companions were all quite satisfied with their dinners, too. Portions were large, and nearly everyone had enough to take home. Upstate NY is characterized by lots of old mill towns (whose mills have closed long ago) along the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers. There are many family-run restaurants that have been in business for years and serve up delicious, reasonable fare, mostly to a local clientele. From the outside, such places look like riverfront taverns, but they get the job done when preparing satisfying, well seasoned meals. I can't comment on typical service. It was our young waitress's first night on the job, so another waitress was helping her out. Both were friendly and attentive. read more

This place is amazing! We were staying at the Amsterdam Castle and stopped in by chance, it couldn't have been better. Everything was awesome! The eggplant parmesan, the fried artichokes, the pizza, the kids meals, everything. They have a really good garlic butter for the bread that was amazing, but they serve olive oil with chopped olives that was even better. Big portions, we licked our plates but still took food to go. Jackie is what makes this place. They have an outside band and people were dancing in the streets. We were just finishing our trip from NYC and this place stole the show. Parillo's is my favorite spot for Italian food in Amsterdam! I recently did a takeout of some of my favorites because going out to eat with toddlers is not fun! Everything was perfect and Delicious! I HIGHLY recommend the vodka rigatoni dinner! Or get it as a side with your meal! It is a must try and the best in the area! My other favorite is the house greens! It's simply the best! Second time here. First time was good and memorable a year ago. So thought it would be a good choice for a nice dinner. Artichoke appetizer was greesy but edible, gave it a thumbs up. Special was advertised as Angel hair pasta with shrimp and sun dried tomatos. This is why i ordered it. It came out with 4 nice size shrimp a bit tough, thin spagetti and stewed tomatos. I was very disappointed because they were very deceptive with ingredients and the charge for this dish was $18. My friend ordered egg plant and hardly ate any as egg plant was rubbery. Decent place to go every once in a while but lately it's hanged a bit to the point that the food is a bit more bland than it used to be. I specifically noticed the chicken marsala used to be excellent and the last 2 times I ordered it it wasn't nearly as tasty as it used to be. The red sauce was also much more bland than I remember it. Perhaps they got a new cook or something, IDK. Aside from that the atmosphere here is pretty cool and the staff is generally friendly. One other point is the take out is really slow and every time I've gotten it they never had it ready when they said they would. Pricewise, it's a bit on the high side in terms of italian. Yikes. Was driving through this town with a friend headed to Sharon Springs for the Beekman Harvest Festival. This place is creepy. It is located in a sketchy part of town, we parked in what was seemingly an alley with stray cats running around. We walked in and were 'eyeballed' by every local at the bar. Sat down and noticed the decor is dusty victorian dolls and baby carriages, amongst other vintage 'treasures'. I have plans on attending this event next year, but WILL NOT be stopping at Parrillo's for a bite.... read more

I ate here a few months back on my way through the state and must say had a wonderful experience. Their food was wonderful, it had an impression of being cooked for at home, as the family is in the kitchen and mom's the head chef. All the service was wonderful, they took the time to talk to you and ask about where you we were from and how our trip was as well as recommend some other fantastic restaurants along our route. The food came out superb and tasted even better. Minestrone soup was great with al dente noodles, the salad was generous and the garlic bread was made with real garlic. I had the lasagne - it was just average and needed to be reheated. One of my friends had the 3-cheese veal, and it was sort-of uninspiring. Another had the chicken Rafella - really nice. All of us ended up bringing home leftovers. The wait staff could use a little more attention to detail. The chicken was ordered with potatoes, but came with pasta which got sent back for the potatoes (delicious). I ordered a beer and that's what I got - but no glass. I asked for a glass - never came. I finally just went to the bar and got one. That said, everyone has an off night, so don't hold this against them. Go and chat them up, they're really friendly and make you feel right at home. read more

Tonight we had an amazing experience at Parillo's Amory Grill - we are traveling from Boston to Syracuse and after hours in Thanksgiving traffic through Mass, by the time we got to Amsterdam we were starving. We came into Parillo's not knowing they closed the kitchen already and were greeted incredibly warmly, they basically took us and our baby in and fed us the most amazing soup, salad and chicken parm we've ever had. We could not have been more welcomed or more satisfied! We definitely plan to make this our go-to when traveling back to Syracuse, of course during business hours next time :) read more

It took forever to get waited on and there was nobody there. Soup and salad took forever to come as well as our entrees. All of our dinners came out with sides of fettuccine instead of spaghetti. The worst part was they charged us $2 for every refill of soda and milk. All they had to do was acknowledge and apologize for the delay but no mention of it. Been going here on and off and was never charged before but that's because they hardly had wait staff. Don't get me wrong the food is very good that is the only plus of going here. Service is hit or miss since we been going. Will we ever return highly doubt it because the owners only care about making a buck instead of providing a good customer experience and I don't understand why they charge for refills because they make money off of alcoholic drinks.
