Classy heritage at its finest. Great menu with seasonal inspired theme nights. All set in a traditional colonial-America Inn. Highly reccomend.

Great local place to eat - stopped here on a recommendation from our AirBnb host. I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the steak special. Food was good but most of all, service was top notch. Got complimentary focaccia and corn fritters which were a delight!

Mexican Night in Johnstown, NY #tacotuesday

When a historical landmark restaurant in a small upstate NY town offers "Mexican Night" every Tuesday during the month of May...you can't help but be curious. Mexican? Johnstown NY? Typically Taco Tuesdays are reserved for Taco Bell Drive-thru but in an attempt to break out of our rut we headed downtown. We were greeted by the hostess with a friendly smile. She asked whether we had a reservation, sadly we did not. However we were quickly whisked away to one of the dining rooms that was bathed in natural late afternoon light. Simple beige painted walls decorated with vivid colorful wildlife photographs by a talented local photographer are a nice touch. The menu was restricted to only Mexican entrees- which was fine for us, but it should be noted just in case groups are expecting a standard menu broadend with select Mexican dishes. The Mexican Nights menu has something for everyone. Enchiladas, tacos, tamales, chimichangas, taco salad... As well as a sampler for two for $24: which we ordered. Margaritas were delicious, and although they were no fish bowls...they were delicious and reasonably priced at $6/each. Shaken or frozen were offered. Chips and fresh made salsa were quickly placed on the table. A very fresh and delicious Pico de Gallo/salsa fresca! Sadly, there was no noticable hint of cilantro.. which is probably a good "middle of the road call" since cilantro is one of those herbs people tend to have strong opinions about. :) The meat options are shredded chicken, beef or pork. We went with the pork tacos and beef tamales. The beef tamales were definitely the highlight of the Meal. Packed with shredded beef! Personally we werent huge fans of the pork flavors so we plan to try the chicken next time. Overall I cannot emphasize how impressed we were with the Union Hall's Mexican Night! Fresh from scratch Mexican food is hard to find and these ladies are doing it right. Don't expect the fiery Arizona Tex-Mex style many associate with Mexican dining. Union Hall offers solid middle of the road traditional Mexican food... Simple flavorful ingredients for even the mildest palates. This is also a good call allowing diverse groups of friends and family who aren't keen on spicy to join in! As for myself- I'm here for the heat! I asked the waitress if they happened to have any hot sauce and she quickly offered options: Frank's, Tabasco? Tabasco was in hand promptly and offered the kick my heart yearned for. Perhaps an inhouse made hot sauce (Salsa Verde is a good middle of the road south of the boarder style condiment) could be offered in the future for those of us accustomed to drowning our food with flavor and adding some lubrication when consuming large amounts of rice and tortillas. We are looking forward to our next visit and hope to bring a few friends with us. The service was highly attentive and friendly. Portion sizes were generous and the bill was reasonable. Do you really need anymore reason to get out of the house on a Tuesday Night?

Always a lovely experience at Union Hall! The food is delicious, the service is delightful and the ambiance is quaint. Not to mention the best dirty martini I have ever had!

I really like to comment on this place, because it really does a great job of elevating The lunchtime experience to not just sandwiches and soups. They serve healthy portions, and the food comes out quick. However, this place doesn't make up for the overall appearance of the establishment, in their food. Unfortunately it must've been the pieces that I picked on the menu, but for the lunch time I chose a special Porkchop entrée, and even though the Porkchop was perfectly cooked, the demi-glaze that was on the dish was overly salty. The meal itself was kind of a conundrum. There was green beans and steak potatoes with the pork chop and some ketchup along with the Demi glaze, but it just doesn't seem like a very well thought out combination. I also ordered The French onion soup, which had salad croutons along with a little bit of bread? That too was a bit too salty for my taste as well. I also got the crème brûlée, that had little to no cream in it it seemed. It was dense, and tasted like it was sitting in its water bath too long. These were all good dishes, they just fell short of my expectations.

I ordered food one time, was not good. This was years ago, but I would never return. I do appreciate the history behind the establishment.

Skip the commercial street restaurants; drive a few short blocks over and dine historically. Great.

best restaurant in the area, hands down...and if you order from the smaller portion menu, you get enough food at a very reasonable price
