Miss Johnstown diner is what I dream a diner would be no-frills just good food and cooks that control the whole restaurant by themselves if not just for the good food, but for the experience of what a true diner should be with a flat top and how a cook does their trade is worth the experience. I highly recommend it. Don't expect a lot of frills just good service and good food. Fast forward to July '26...Came back to Johnstown for a visit and discovered Rail Side Cafe on Perry St. just a few blocks north of where I lived! My wife loved the cinnamon swirl French toast, and my western omelet was excellent. Of course I had to try the sausage gravy and a homemade biscuit The biscuit was surprisingly light and fluffy and the gravy was worthy of being southern! They were $6 each and so cute. I got a red and brown one! The pancakes were extremely delicious; golden brown, their maple syrup was unique, and their bacon was crispy and not too greasy. Last week, I had the special Steak Frites , a Filet Mignon, that I ordered rare to medium rare, mentioning to Megan that I liked it bloody. However, not only did it come out early but well done! Ok, anything can happen, but the server is tasked with ASSURING that the meal is delivered as ordered. It should have been noted that it was over done and offered to be replaced. Not so. Tonight I ordered the flank steak special, again rare to medium rare. It came out medium and chewy. Furthermore, tThe Frittes were under cooked baking potatoes, not the white or gold potatoes you would expect, further under cooked and really not the twice cooked French "frites" expected. But the last insult was to have the patrons next to me delivered meal ending sorbets, while I was not so blessed. Apparently they were more important regular customers than I, although I have been their customer for more than ten years. But not likely furthermore. I am extremely disappointed.
