If you are gluten free then this is a must visit when you are in Montreal! Fresh, fresh croissants, bread, tarts and wraps. There are a few tables and chairs if you are like us and wanted to immediately enjoy. Everything is soooo FRESH!! FYI- they don't take credit cards- cash only!

WOW, run don't walk to this incredible bakery. My family who is celiac have been going on about how awesome this place is and I finally satisfied my curiosity today. I am not celiac but this is Hands down the best pastry I ever had. Well done!

Stopped in here on a whim. We purchased an eclair, a couple croissants, some espressos. The total came to $25. My sister in law gave the guy $40 because that is all we had. He gave us back $10 in change and scammed us out of our $15 change we should have received back because he didn't have enough change. For a cash only business, that is shady. This business needs to carry more change. The gluten free products were delightful though. It is too bad they were so good.

There are so many GF options in Montreal. I really thought this would be another amazing spot but, alas, it's a bit depressing: the chicken wrap was premade and fell apart. the tart looked pretty but had no taste and had the gravelly feeling of early days GF baking. We went in the strength of the most recent rave reviews but it's like they reviewed a different store! The bread loaves were the ugliest I've ever seen. I took a photo so I could show the ugly loaves to others. The options felt limited and the entire shop and owner were depressing. No charm. It seemed like a business about to close down, to be honest.

Also try the bread it's like none other gluten free bread you'll ever have in your entire life. But you have to eat it freshly made.

Fantastic gluten free baked goods! The croissants and eclairs were phenomenal and remarkably fluffy for gluten-free baked goods. I have visited Parc Sans Gluten twice now and found that the baked goods taste better in the morning (by the afternoon they can be stale). I've been gluten-free for 10+ years now and these were by far the closest to what I remember glutenous baked goods tasting like!

    Check out the flakes!

I just finished the best croissant I have had in about 14 years since being diagnosed with celiac disease. It was so buttery and flakey...I can't believe that it was actually gluten free. Gluten free bakers in Paris need to come here for a master class in gluten free baking. Well done!

The chocolate "mousse" that I could not finish.

I'm a huge fan of Somebody Feed Phil, and after watching Phil rave about St-Viateur Bagel Café--and…read moreeven do his signature happy dance over the bagels--I knew I had to try it for myself. I've eaten bagels my entire life and honestly never thought they were anything that special. But when we had the chance to visit Montreal, this was one of the first places on our list. When we arrived, there was a long line, and we waited about 35 minutes. Normally, that would make me question whether it's worth it, but this time it absolutely was. I ordered the smoked salmon with fig jam on an everything bagel, and it was incredible. The bagel was perfectly fresh, with a chewy interior and just the right amount of crispness on the outside. Combined with the smoked salmon and the sweetness of the fig jam, it was one of the best bagel sandwiches I've ever had. I rarely say this, but it was 100% worth the wait. My only disappointment is that I didn't have enough time to try their famous competitor so I could compare the two. I guess that just gives me another reason to come back to Montreal!

When it comes to Montreal bagels, St-Viateur and Fairmount are the two big players. St-Viateur has…read moretwo locations - their OG one and this one in the middle of Avenue du Mont-Royal. They have one line if you're looking to just get bagels to take away and a second line if you want sandwiches or bagels with anything on them. We wanted bagel sandwiches, so we waited in the second line. We were told that it would be about a 30 minute wait, but I think it was shorter than that. In the summer, they have plenty of seating inside and outside. I got the traditionelle (smoked salmon) on a sesame bagel (again, very traditional). They loaded it with so much cream cheese that it was seeping out of the bagel hole, which is too much cream cheese IMO. Additionally, the bagel didn't seem as dense or as sweet as I was expecting from a Montreal bagel. Now, don't get me wrong, this is a good bagel and given St-Viateur's role in the Montreal bagel history, you should get an SV bagel while visiting. But given their history and reputation, I was a little disappointed.

The fish was tender and the fries were classic British style, a bit more potatoey than crispy, but pairs well with malt vinegar. The tartar sauce was okay to me, but I also am not the biggest fan of tartar sauce so I'm probably not the best judge. They also have mushy peas! Very hard to find a place that offers mushy peas (which I love) so big kudos. If you like fish and chips you deserve to try this and see how the brits do it! Got the sticky toffee pudding, and I wish they put on more sweet sauce, but it was delectable however I could not eat as much as I wanted as I was so full from the fish. Highly recommend!

I would have liked to add a cup of chowder, but alas, no joy... My server was great, no issues whatsoever. She made some suggestions and inquired about my travel plans and offered some tips on what see and what to avoid... Overall 4.5/5 The Guinness was also bomb!!

I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo
