Beautiful, comfortable space. BEST drag brunch (on Sundays) ever; the show, that is. The food mediocre at best, is made up of quite a bit of prepackaged foods (the first time we went there Little Debbie cosmic brownies taken out of packaging and put on a plate), and costs $25. This last time we went the food was definitely better than the first time. But cocktails are OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced. Simple cocktails that you'd normally pay $7-10 for elsewhere are $18. Sangria is $16. It is sort of unbelievable. All that said, the drag show is worth it all. So organized with an amazing, talented, and witty host. She always has the best talent performing. I look forward to it every time I'm in SATX. read more

Bought tickets for Sunday drag brunch. Got an email that said seating started at 10 when really it started at 11 - conflicting reservation / event messages. Got there and the seating process was extremely disjointed. Since we were early as a party, we expected good seating as it is "first come first serve" and they tried to sit our group of 6 on a bench along the wall without any tables. We had to ask to be seated at a table where our group could actually see one another and hang out. Once we got settled, it was obvious the drinks were ridiculously overpriced. $14 for a mimosa. And they don't have coffee for brunch? Kinda wild. On top of that the menu was extremely limited and for a place that claims they want to emulate luxury and have a dress code, they really don't serve nice food. The avocado toast is basically packaged guac on plain un toasted bread. The area is nice on the rooftop but honestly not really conducive to a drag show. Depending on where you get sat, you may only see half of the performance. The queens were great, only good part about the drag brunch. read more

Massive liquor selection. + SO MUCH SEATING! Definite props for that. CONS: - This place just felt way too cool for me. I didn't feel like I could really relax here. Maybe it's the dress code, maybe it's the vibe I got from the bartender, maybe it's just the other patrons, but I just wasn't feeling it. I'd return to give it another shot next time I'm in town. - Daytime menu is pretty limited. Went for coffee and the one noteworthy latte (salt something?) was what they were out of, and what I did get was pretty generic. - Went during brunch hours but wasn't offered a menu. So much fun! 10/10 recommend coming for the drag show, but I wasn't super impressed by the food. There wasn't a lot of information on brunch that I could find online, but $25 for a buffet with very few breakfast foods was a bit of a stretch for me. My friends and I were there on July 29th for the cabaret. Kristi Waters was an amazing performer but the service was lacking. We ordered food before the show started and the food arrived towards the end. One of our plates was missing and our server informed us that the kitchen didn't have the ingredients to make the plate (we were told this an hour after we had ordered). We canceled that plate and ordered a different one. We paid and left but I noticed that they still charged us the plate that we never got. I've attempted four times to reach out since that night to resolve the charge. For the first three attempts I was told accounting would reach out to me. And then for the fourth and last attempt, I could not get through at all. Highly disappointed with Paramour. P.S. I had been wanting to check out Paramour Bar for such a long time, and I am happy I decided to check it out during their drag brunch on Sunday. Making a reservation was easy to make online. When I got there we were seated quickly outside. I went ahead and asked the waitress if they had any umbrellas since the Texas heat is brutal and they said no. I was a little upset but knew it was a packed house. The waitress came back to me and let me know she would sit us inside if a reservation didn't make it. Thankfully we made it inside in the front row for the show. The show itself was so much fun and we stayed for the first and second half of it. The energy of the crowd is contagious and the queens really get the crowd excited to be there. The brunch was delicious! So many options to choose from and the best part was that for $25 it was unlimited. We decided to go ahead and get the bottle of champagne and juice for mimosas. It was well worth it. Overall, the view and staff were amazing. I am thankful for the waitress who went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable during our reservation and always came back to make sure we were doing good. Original review I did back in '15 was 5*. Not sure how much they have changed, or maybe I have changed but best I could do on this go-round is 3* (if that). Prices were never cheap, but I'm not sure if San Antonio is ready for the $20 (and up) cocktail unless the customer is specifying a top shelf brand in the order. Wine and beers are more reasonable, but the selection is quite limited. There's still a nice view looking north and northwest, but the east and downtown views are slowly getting degraded as the city sprawls skyward. read more

I would give Paramour zero stars if it were possible. As many others have mentioned, their security and doormen are extraordinarily rude. I'm a professional photographer and often travel with my equipment. I was visiting Paramour on Sunday, March 10th for the drag brunch, as part of a celebratory wedding weekend with a group of close friends. When I entered, the police asked to check my camera bag, which I am used to and understand the need to do. They asked to keep it, which I told them I would not do, and that if they had a no photo policy, I'd be happy to comply with that. The doorman then told me that if I took a photo, I would be removed from the premises. I'd already told him I would comply with their rules, and he continued to, essentially threaten me in advance if I were to take a photo inside. Under normal circumstances I would have just left, however I didn't have much choice given that I was with a large group of friends celebrating a wedding. I fact, we had also visited the Paramour on Friday, March 8th at around 10pm and had a better experience - however, the police officer on duty was smoking in front of the building which is a violation of the rules of the San Antonio police department when interfacing with the public. The irony of it all, of course, was that inside, just about every single attendee was taking photos and videos on their phones, however, I continued to comply with their request, and honestly didn't care about photographing the event...I'd only brought my camera because I was heading to the airport afterwards and on the off chance that I would have taken some casual brunch photos of the wedding party in the pretty decor...again, which plenty of people did with their phones, but I continued to comply. As others here have mentioned, the security staff here is very rude and insensitive, the comments here about them are true, and unless you like reinforcing their behavior towards people in this way, I would suggest that you take your business elsewhere. The staff absolutely ruined the last day of my trip in San Antonio by being so rude, and ruined the last day of the wedding weekend for me. This is the kind of place that will ultimately fail once it goes out of fashion - it's glitz with no heart or substance, a thin facade. read more

Upscale, trendy rooftop bar with artisanal cocktails and a decent selection of beer. They offer tapas such as meat and cheese platters (charcuterie). They have nice looking leather couches, chairs etc. on the rooftop but you need to make reservations for this. Otherwise you are relegated to the poorman's area where they don't even have any wait staff and you will probably have to sit on a stool at a counter. Still a great view in this area though, just make sure you know what you are getting into. There is also an indoor area on the rooftop if you would rather hang in there. Dress code - they don't really have one but I recommend dressing up in the evening. Although when we were there on a Saturday night (between 7p and 8p), there were a couple of people inside in shorts and t-shirts. As we left the establishment, we overheard the doorman turning a couple of guys away because they were wearing baseball caps. They also mentioned something about the tennis shoes they were wearing but I didn't notice exactly what the issue with the shoes was. This place is also open during the day as a specialty coffee shop and they have a small donut and pastry offering. read more

But this punch bowl from @paramourbar (according to the ever so cool and friendly mixologist @gunsandwhiskey1776 ) can rarely be finished between a group of friends. Have you ever seen anything more beautiful? Paramour is a funky, hip and very posh rooftop bar that is so well hidden you'd pass it up if you didn't know it was there. This bar is provides an encompassing view of downtown from it's rooftop. They offer an everchanging selection of cocktails and wonder small plates. My go to drink is the Hemingway because I feel it tastes amazing with the hot weather. Last year I found out about this place and visited it very often to have what are called fun bags. A mixture of many different items combined in a ziplock bag to make sure you can walk through the entire bar not be without a drink at all times. The bartenders are very quick with their drinks, but I recommend to get a server if you have a large group. You can also reserve a table outside for events such as birthday's party meetings and more. The roof is so big that if you feel like you want to walk around they have this large area which is great for sunsets. That's the biggest point I would like to make, go when the sun is setting. A great step up, San Antonio! A rooftop place to hangout for a morning coffee or an evening drink. This place has a big city feel but at the same time the way it is set up is very intimate and great for either a crowd of friends or a date. I went here with a friend in the morning for some coffee and some gourmet tacos. I was a little disappointed because the pastry menu was only for the weekends and their regular weekday morning menu was very limited, limited but tasted good nonetheless. My cousin and I decided last minute to pop into Paramour for the first time. Great decor and rooftop area, unfortunately the service didn't match the ambiance. I asked for the Verdadera cocktail, the bartender replied with "Which one?", I had to point to it it on the menu to which he replied with "Oh, that one..." and said he needed to look how to make it. While making our drinks he complained to another employee about the owner or manager who just comes and makes more mess and does nothing to help. He also stopped midway twice to make drinks for two other people that walked up after us. We finally got our drinks and he didn't ask for a card or if we would like to keep a tab or close out, he said nothing and just walked away. The drinks were nothing special and took way too long to make, not worth the craft cocktail price. I love craft cocktails because I know that I'm getting a good quality drink for the higher price, this was not it. When we brought our empty glasses back to the bar the bartender didn't say a word to us, grabbed our glasses and gave us the total. I would have liked to try other cocktails on the menu but sadly I wasn't even given the chance! The bar was dead with maybe 4 people total including us so it wasn't because it was really busy. For the first time in my life I left no tip. It hurt me more than it hurt you Tyler B., as I am generally a good tipper even if service isn't that great. The service was that terrible and he seemed to not like his job very much at all. As I was filling out the mini survey on the card machine, he said "Oh you don't have to fill that out, they don't read them anyway." Super cool ambiance! The whole place gives off a super kinky/ sexual vibe. All the drinks had dirty names and the throw pillows all said things like "Girls just want to have cum", etc and the ladies bathroom comes fully equipped with eye candy (giant Tom Sellack pictures). Did I mention there is a champagne vending machine?! They also have very neat neon signs everywhere- super photo worthy if you're into that stuff. Drinks were good too. This is a sweet spot for dates, parties and celebrations. Be ready to drop a pretty penny though. It's a classy little spot, but some how I always see some people there in shorts or gym type clothing. I assume friends of the employees. Friends and I ran away from the conference to this hotel which seems designed to be instagrammed repeatedly. We arrived early... around 5pm since we had to be back to the conference for an event later in the evening. I was concerned that something this photo friendly wouldn't have good cocktails. I'm glad the bartenders proved me wrong. LOVE the choose your own adventure style menu. I had a bourbon cedar drink that I wanted to marry. If only. The moment I walked into this place , I instantly loved it. The vibe from the get go, was sensational. I love the color, the ambiance, the lighting, the whole atmosphere. The staff were Fantastic, and the Mgr on duty, was so in tune. I mean Brendan, was the greatest, very attentive, aimed to please. Drinks are spot on, and the pecan ice is the bomb. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I used to love coming here on a regular day and even celebrated two past birthdays here. I do not mind paying for a good cocktail, what I do mind is not getting good customer service. I was sitting with a friend outside and after an hour + we realized we hadn't gotten any service. Given, there was a table directly in front of us who had been approached at least 4 times. I flagged someone down and asked to speak with a manager. A gentlemen (for lack of a better word) came by and did not bother to introduce himself. When I began explaining the situation he literally walked away while I was mid sentence. A simple "my apologies, let me get someone to take your order ." , maybe even a "we'll make a note to do better", would have sufficed. Instead I felt unappreciated, unwelcome, and ignored. I hope no one I've ever recommended here has received this kind of treatment and won't be making that same mistake again. read more

On a strange corner, in a strange quadrant of downtown with strange parking rules, you may, or may not find the glowing entrance to this bar/cafe/date-night must.  And but so, having found the place, you're still not quite there. Follow your intuition or maybe ask someone, because just passing through the first gate still leaves you several hundred steps, about 50 vertical feet, and a few more wrong moves to avoid before stepping out onto the 4th floor where you have finally made it, to the fun. If you're a first-timer, confusion will be your first sensation, because yet again, off the elevator there is no clear route to what you're after, no guide, you realize you're halfway inside halfway outside but with nothing really in front of you. My tip here is: enjoy being lost. This is the fun.  You will find the booze. It will find you.  There is one little confusion that needs clarification: The hip GRATUITY INCLUDED idea is great, but we all have enough guilt. DELETE the tip line on the check. It feels so good to be able to go to bars again, especially when they're as cool and trendy as this one! Aside from the beer, the drinks are somewhat expensive, but I guess you're also paying for the view and the atmosphere. The waiters are very attentive, and the place is just as beautiful on the outside patio as it is in the inside bar/lounge area. Are you kidding me? We bought our tickets weeks in advance. Got to the show an hour and a half early and were sat on the patio. Which shouldn't be a big deal right?? WRONG because the patio has almost NO shade. The umbrellas aren't big enough for the areas that they are supposed to cover and there are even some tables with NO umbrella at all. We had 10 people for our reservation and the umbrella was big enough to cover FIVE OF US. When we asked for a spot with more shade the waiter handed us a hand held umbrella. We told them (along with 5 other parties that showed up PISSED) that this wasn't advertised and wasn't fair that we paid for a show and a brunch but were sat in the blazing Texas heat with little to no shade no misters NOTHING. Not to mention the girl at the front guiding people to their tables was incredibly rude and clearly didn't care about any type of customer service. We were extremely disappointed to show up after having a reservation for 10 people only to be told we must sit outside in the freezing weather even though there were 10+ tables available. We explained we would be well gone by the time the 10:00 show was starting but that didn't matter. Very trendy place. Dress to impress. My bf and I stopped in for a drink before a concert. We're from Austin and don't really do the whole 'dress to impress' charade, so we were definitely underdressed and stood out from the crowd. Absolutely LOVED the ambiance. Gorgeous rooftop setting. Tons of seating with these cutesy throw pillows and goddy couches and chairs. The drink prices were high, but you kinda figure in this type of setting. Other reviews talk about the bouncers, but we had no problem there. Service was great. Bathrooms were fantastic. As a female, this is a huge deal! Paramour you sexy beast. I didn't expect to like it but I did. Clean, smell goods and right atop of the world (at least in SA). Its couches are quite comfy and beg to be sat on. There's nothing like relaxing on a comfortable couch, sipping on a cocktail, enjoying good conversation while taking in the view and feeling the crisp breeze (even at 92° at 930pm, the breeze makes the blazing hot San Antonio summer evenings feel much cooler). The drinks were delicious and their list of spirits exceptional (Pappy Van Winkle is on the list).
