I had done considerable research, but many questions remained. Sizing was my first concern. Emily brought out her own Karate Monkey, which confirmed the correct size for me; and because I had decided to upgrade the tires, Dan and Will spent considerable time helping me choose which tires would be best for both front and rear. Paradise Garage is my go to bike shop. They have helped us out so many times in the past. All the employees are not only knowledgeable bike people, but they are also just all around good people. I love stopping in to the shop. My most recent visit was to buy a free standing bike pump to have on hand at home. Both employees in the shop were quick to show me where the pumps were and to suggest one. I always buy what they suggest. They have never steered me in the wrong direction yet. It was a quick visit today, but I am planning on buying my husband a new bike in the new year and Paradise Garage will be my go to for that. When I got home I was extremely pleased with my purchase. PG on the corner of Price and High beside Local Bar, a standard bike shop with fantastic service and a staff with a lust for cycling. It is a well spaced out, clean, and merchandized spot with an interesting inventory of various types of bikes. Their accessories, equipment, technology, lights, and parts are priced competitively. Some of the bikes for sale beat other places other not so much. But there is a great selection. They also have rentals priced from $35 to $75 a day. It is a nice stop when I am biking around on a hot summer day. read more

Paradise Garage is now my go to bike accessories and repairs. II had purchased my bike from Trek in Dublin. But thought that it would be way to much hassle to take it to Dublin every time I needed it tuned up or fixed, since I live downtown. So I searched around the area and paradise was super close. I called and they told me to come on in. When i got in i was greeted with a smile and asked what i needed. I informed them that i had called in and he sent me to the repair section in the back. The guy took my bike and looked it over and knew exactly what he was doing. he gave me the price it was going to cost to tune my bike and it was about 15 dollar cheaper then it would have been at Trek. Then he took care of it in about 10 min or less and inflated my tires. Service was so fast and friendly it left a good impression on me for sure. Id def be coming back with anything bike related. I know that the whole covid situation has everyone freaked out. With that said I bought a $1000 bike the other day and it was as if I bought a water bottle. They asked my name. They got my bike. They handed it to me. I would have liked a little conversation about tune ups, maybe some paperwork, hell, just a little more than the dead pan sales lady. I stopped in after my first wipeout with twisted handle bars and I was worried that I'd bent some parts permanently. Someone said hi right when I walked in and I was helped shortly after. The guy rolled my bike back, took 5 min to fix everything up, and then showed me what he did so I could fix it myself next time. He was kind and educational. Then he didn't charge me anything! I've had run-ins with plenty of bike shop guys who seem to love to make you feel stupid for what you don't yet know about your bike. That helped me trust them when I returned several times in the past year for various needs. I left every time feeling like I got great service at a really reasonable price. Everyone I know was psyched to see a bike shop moving into the Short North. The number one questions I heard: "Do they do bike repairs?" No, Paradise Garage does not do repairs. They'll re-inflate your tires for you if you bought your bike there, but that's about it...for now. While they're not a repair shop, they do have some pretty cool bikes and cycling and street gear. I think all their bikes are foreign, which is good to know if you're into that sort of thing. They have a lot of Dutch models. Another thing I like is that the store is always bright and clean. Ok, so they sold me a bike and were cool about letting me use a rental while they got mine put together and that was cool. It wasn't adjusted properly when I test rode it, but when I told the people about it they told me it could never be adjusted properly and brushed me off. I guess they had my money and were selling so many bikes that they didn't have to care. I brought it home and adjusted it myself and now it works perfectly because I know what I'm doing. As an Victorian Village denizen and an avid bike commuter, Paradise Garage has proven to be the answer to my prayers. I hopped on my bike to ride to work in German Village the other day only to find that the tube in my back tire was blown out- yikes! I considered my options briefly, and decided that Paradise Garage was the closest alternative. I was worried that the highly stylized and trendy storefront that this High Street bike shop calls home may be reason to believe that their actual bike service would be subpar and overpriced, but boy was I ever wrong! I gave them a call to get the details, and a guy named Josh assured me that the solution to my problem would be quick and, more importantly, cheap. About a half an hour later after walking my bike in to PG, they replaced my tub for a mere $8 and put me back on my way. I started to notice what felt like my rear break getting looser and looser over the past week, so I had them look at that as well while I was in there. One of the other mechanics was able to tighten it up in just a couple of minutes, and he did it for free! The sales floor is set up much like the neighboring boutiques found in the Short North and hosts a stylish and moderately priced variety of bikes from brands like Biria and Dahon, along with a host of clothing options for the hipsters that ride them. Brands like Superlative Conspiracy, Bench, and Alternative Apparel are some of the brands available, and although they tend to be pricey, they're not far out of the realm of most of the newer styles found at Urban Outfitters or Dr. Mojoe. They're likely to share many of the same customers, so it can be seen as a smart move on their behalf. Rounded off by an unobtrusive soundtrack of rock and indie hip hop, friendly and attentive service, and a formidable selection of helmets, lights, and other bike accessories, Paradise Garage is the perfect one-stop shop for the ever-swelling population of bikers in the greater Columbus area. read more

On High St. in the Short North, Paradise Garage is a quaint little bike boutique very much in the style that permeates the shops of the area. Narrow and not real big for a bike store, PG makes the most of its space by hanging the entire stock of SE single gears down the right wall. I have yet to ride any of those particular bikes but I can see how they would appeal to a wide variety of people, and are available with either the standard road-bike handbars or moutain-style straight bars. Single gear means no shifting for you non bikers, making the bikes about as easy to ride as it gets. They seem to be a decent quality of bike for around $250, a healthy alternative to paying $4/gallon at the pump. Besides the SE's, Paradise Garage has some other easy to ride bikes such as the side-swing and dutch-style Biria bikes and even the original old Dutch bike itself. It's not all about the bikes in here, though. Besides a little of the bike gear you would expect to see (helmets, bags, etc...) they have a good selection of cool clothes that have nothing to do with biking; jeans and T's and such. The vibe in the style is less bike store and more short north shop, which should make it easier for those non-hardcore bikers to walk in and feel at home. read more

So random, and Iove it! Being a biker, I got super excited to find that there was a new shop in the 'hood. Okay so this is no Trek store. They don't do repairs, they don't sell any sort of competitive equipment, and they don't sell biking clothes. Bummer, 'cause I recently lost my Pearl Izumi tri shorts this summer, and wanted a cheap-o replacement. After the initial understanding of what PG is all about, I really got into the whole spin of products. The bikes, which I did not really dissect, are a mix of single speeds, fold-ups and commuter bikes. The clothing is what really grabbed my attention. Go figure. They have Hootch! -love the name, and pretty cute too. Unfortunately, unless you can find something you like on the sale rack, you will have to shell out a lot cash. But the pieces are quite unique and the quantity is limited, so you could have yourself a funky jacket or dress that will attract compliments for seasons to come. read more

I am consistently impressed by the level of service and attention that I receive at Paradise Garage. On two separate occasions, I've stopped in on a whim to check out bikes. Neither time did I have plans to purchase anything any time soon. And both times I made that known to the person assisting me. That in no way affected the service I received. Each time, they went above and beyond to assist me--spending way more time answering questions and helping me than I'd have expected to receive as a casual browser. The attention sure worked, because I did come back (only once though) to purchase a bike. I was very pleased with the purchasing process, as they made sure it fit well and everything was set just right. If anything, the shopping experience was a bit difficult because I had so many choices! They definitely have a great selection, giving you lots of options. I've been pleased with the service I've received since then as well, both on my bike that I bought there, and bikes purchased elsewhere. They've done a good job with repairs, which have been completed promptly and at a reasonable price. Wellll, sonny, let me tell you in the winter of 2011 there was a blizzard in Columbus. And boy was it a humdinger. You see, I had just biked uphill (and it's uphill both ways... or so I can recall) to school when the blizzard was only just a baby - a glimmer in the forecaster's eyes. On the way back, though, that's when things got saucy - slipping and sliding all over the road and shooting all sorts of filth all over my back. Well, when I finally got back to my 1 sq ft apartment and was drenched with slush, I swore to myself that that was the day I would get mud guards for my bike. And so I went to Paradise Garage. Almost needless to say, Paradise Garage had exactly what I was looking for and at a not-so-terrible price. Nice young whipper-snappers tending the cash registers - we couldn't even pay for our Starbucks with our iPhones at that time so we used "cash" - and I was in-and-out in a matter of minutes. I've been in here a bunch of times, mostly window shopping. They have a great selection of biking gear, in particular helmets. I love their selection of Bern helmets, and while I haven't purchased one here, I did use their selection to try them on before buying one on super-discount online. What can I say, I'm cheap. More recently, Paradise Garage was at the top of my list for bike shops to check out while searching for a replacement for my stolen bike. My first issue is that I had a really hard time getting any help from the salespeople. I didn't have a ton of questions, but they weren't very forwardly helpful either. I was pretty clear I was willing to spend a bunch of money, but knew nothing about road bikes. This ended up having them recommend.. nothing. yeah. Not so helpful. I ended up trying a flat-bar Fuji road bike (the absolute) which was a great ride, honestly. However, they did nothing whatsoever to size it for me.. not even lower the seat when it was obviously way too high. I'm sorry, I don't carry allen wrenches on my person at all times. They do offer free lifetime tune-ups if you buy a bike from them, which is great. However, I just wasn't impressed with their selection of normal bikes. They seem to mostly cater to the people who like to collect weird bikes - they have some bikes with the most comically large snow tires that would never be useful. I wish they had more of a normal bike selection. They also have more fixies and single speeds than anything else. I didn't end up buying a bike here, but it was fun to shop around here, if a bit frustrating. Probably would have worked out better if I was just a bike hipster, and not a practical kind of person. read more

I've never bought my own bike- the last bike I owned was bought for me as a kid and has long been forgotten. So when I went into Paradise Garage, a fancy bike shop in the Short North, I guess I didn't quite know what to expect. After the visit, I'm more confused than ever, but I like it. First of all, about half the inventory here is clothing. And not, like, bike clothing. It's more like hipster clothing- which makes sense in its own way, I suppose, since going green and all that is pretty hip these days. Still, the ruggedness of flannel is an odd match for bikes that are almost all made for street and urban use, no matter how many hipsters own both. At any rate, the bikes here are what really matter, and they're all pretty beautiful here. I instantly fell in love with a bmx-ish (if I may butcher or even misuse the lingo) bike that was painted in very 80s shades of crimson and gold. My girlfriend, far more approachable than this handsome but distant narrator, was given a lengthy demonstration of the store's selection of collapsible street bikes, which are as cool as they are expensive! I've been thinking about getting a bike recently. I'm a horrible person and would rather have a car, but luckily for the planet and what little cred I may have, a reliable automobile is a remote possibility for my budget at best. After my recent visit to Paradise Garage, I am really chomping at the bit to get a cool bike and take it out on the insane hell that is the Columbus streets. Here's to hoping! If I get that little red and gold superbike, you better give me right of way. I'd make a hell of a hairy mess in your front grille. read more

I went into Paradise to check into their selection, see their peripherals and accessories, and to check out a local garage. I also needed to get pricing on having my bike unpacked from the box that I had it put into to ship it to Columbus. I was horribly disappointed. It took me at least 20 minutes to get anyone to talk to me - there were people in the shop, but not so many that nobody could bother to say "hello" or say that someone would be with me for a while. The selection was focused on fixed-gear bikes and the service seemed to be focused on ... someone who wasn't me. When I finally got someone to talk to me, he quoted me $100-125 to have my bike unboxed. This is at least twice the estimate given to me anywhere else and was three times the amount I was quoted by a garage close by. Screw this place. I'll go somewhere else, someplace that wants my money, my recommendations to other graduate students, and to have a regular customer. read more

I'm new to cycling, so I was a little timid and nervous at first about going in to the shop and asking about the things I needed. Walking into paradise garage helped ease me into riding though. From my helmet, to my riding shorts, to my lock and my bike lights- PG helped sort me out with everything I needed with good explanations and at an affordable price. All of the employees I worked with were extremely knowledgable about biking and everything that comes with it. They do get pretty busy so you might have to wait a bit for some help, and if your bike needs servicing definitely call ahead to see when they can get you in. They take care of all your biking needs. I popped in here at one point to get a rack for the back of my bike so I can haul my shiz on it. After buying several racks online only to find that they wouldn't fit because I have some weird funky 80's road bike geometry going on, I figured it might be a good idea to get one in person. I talked to a sales guy who helped me find one that would fit, then offered to put it on for me for $5. While they were putting it on, I glanced around at the selection- it looked like there was a large selection of apparel, a decent number of baskets and panniers and the like, some really nice lights that were on display so you could play with them and see which you liked best, pretty decent selection of Bern helmets in different colors and sizes. Overall, nice things, maybe a little on the high end pricewise but not too bad. What I was really impressed with was the service. While I waited I chatted with a few different employees, and they were all really nice and knowledgeable. When they brought my bike and shiny new rack out, I asked a salesman (whose name I forgot because I suck at names) how I could attach my rear light to the rack so it wouldn't get blocked by my stuff- he was nice enough to take it to the back and rig up something for me for free. Score! I was impressed enough to ask if they took tips, but apparently not. Maybe some day I'll stop in with cookies. Until then, guy-whose-name-I-forgot, thanks for helping me out. The only thing I would complain about if I wanted to be complainy-pants was that installation of the rack was $5 even though I purchased the rack there. Down at Once Ridden they've done it for free. I kind of get annoyed when shops charge for your every little thing, even though I know it's their right and they were totally up front about it. But the folks at Paradise were nice and helpful that I don't really care, and I'll still be back. read more

Absolutely no hassle, I completed the form online, the bike was set up with cleats and a helmet for me when I got to the store, and drop off was just as easy the next day. I came in to Paradise Garage to browse the inventory. You see, I'm in the market for a Dahon folding bike but they seem to be hard to find in stores... unfortunately, PG only had one in stock and not a model i was interested in... Even so, the salesgirls went above and beyond to tell me about different folding bikes and their prices. I was impressed. I decided to browse the other bikes before leaving, when one of the salesgirls came back and said that she noticed I've been looking around for a while and wanted to learn about the bikes? I explained that I couldn't afford a new bike right now, but I'd eventually like to buy something better suited for urban cycling. She spent a good 15 minutes showing me all of the models that I might be interested in. I had such a great experience that I'd buy a bike here undoubtedly if I lived in Columbus. I'm pretty new to cycling but everyone at Paradise Garage was super patient with me while I asked a bunch of basic questions and learned some new vocab words. I've always been pretty intimidated by the cycling community but my experience at PG made me feel right at home! When I came in, Nate (pretty sure it was Nate) asked me about my biking habits and price range and then showed me a few commuter bikes. After a tried the 2 models that were in my budget, he pointed to another set of bikes and said, "Those would work for you too but they're a little expensive for what you want to spend." What?! He didn't try to upsell a newbie?! Amazing. When I came back a few days later to buy my bike (a 2014 Kona Dew), the woman who helped me was super busy and I think leaving for her lunch break but still made sure I got the right helmet, lights and lock so I can ride legally and safely. They also carry Bern helmets which is awesome. I bought an all-weather model so I have a new snowboard helmet AND a bike helmet all in one. The helmet I got didn't come with a google clip so they gave me a 40% coupon for the bern website so I could buy one. Overall great experience and I can't wait to go back! read more

Went back to PD to get lights for our bikes as we found they are required by law for night riding (says the cop at comfest). Anyway, once again we were promptly greeted and assisted. I'm impressed. This bike shop really has something going that's worth taking note of. All the staff are friendly and welcoming and really know their stuff - even on items they don't sell. I stopped in with some friends who were also in the market for new bikes, and even though one made it clear theirs just weren't in his price range, they still worked with him to find a type, size, and fit that worked for him. They even let us go on a longer test ride to really get a feel for the style. Beyond bikes, they also have a nice selection of clothing, shoes, pedals, kiddy seats and carriers, and other biking accessories.
